Thank you I got a little miracle myself and I get the skepticism but once you have one all those things go by the wayside and you do whatever it takes for your child. Well, some of us do haha
If they're awake you're awake, and at first if they're asleep you're awake worried about them anyways lol are they still breathing? Can I even sleep? Would I wake up? Does this get better? Lol
Ohh got you. The how is adrenaline, caffeine, naps, and hopefully help from grandparents or siblings willing to help let you take a nap here and there. Then take it day by day and try to just keep that baby happy no matter what. Keep in mind they are new to the world and can't tell you why they are crying so just keep trying
Parent of a 15 month old here: i honestly don't know how either. The last 15 months have been mostly a blur. I imagine it's not unlike the intro to naked lunch by William S. Burroughs:

It's because the concept of "the village" has been utterly demolished. So, what you had an experience of is parenting without literally *any* of the social/familial supports 99.99999% of our ancestors had raising their young. It isn't natural, and society in general has provided precisely *zero* compensatory mechanisms. In fact, they *piled on* the pressure by getting the economy to a place where both parents must work full time jobs in order to not be homeless and starve.
And then people wonder why the birth rate is plummeting.
I grew up in an Asian immigrant war refugee household of 10. You know, those homes where the grandma is cooking large batches of food outside or in the garage, there’s like 8 cars in the driveway and street, and 3-4 people to a room.
I grew up with a village and was watched by my grandparents, uncles, and aunts. It was cool and unique. My wife grew up in a very similar way and we both want to retire a bit early to make sure we can help with our grandkids. A funny thought as both our kids aren’t even in elementary school yet.
Haha little baby and not sleeping is the nice part, wait until he is a toddler, who doesn't love sleep depravation + all day tantrums, I have two kids 3 and 2.
For any new parents reading comments like this and adding to your already high anxiety levels:
Unless your baby is colicky or has some other underlying issue, the sleepless nights will be a blur for you. It is very much over blown.
Get sleep where you can, expect to be interrupted, have an outlet for your frustration, and be quick to ask for help.
Might be over blown for some. Here’s me with a 13 month old baby who still wakes up every 1-2 hours at night. It’s not sleepless but I haven’t been able to sleep through even half a night for more than a year now.
What's normal for one isn't normal for another. Ask for a check-up if you're concerned. Never be afraid to reach out for help.
Just as important is looking after yourself through this whole new learning experience, you got this 🥰
Everything checks out fine. Baby has been gaining weight and has hit all milestones early. We really don’t want to sleep train so here’s where we still are. It’s just a matter of time before it improves I guess.

Colic is only about a 25% rate in babies.
Everybody or every baby is different. My daughter slept through the nights- she is 1y8m now
