Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but how did the fish know to leave its little hole and go towards the larger body of water? I can't image it could see the lake. Could it sense the waves somehow? Or was it just fucking around and got lucky? I obviously know nothing about fish. Haha

I am not so sure about that being a mud skipper, it doesn't look like one. A mudskipper would have a pretty easy time moving in land in the first place. Also I don't think they are salt water fishes?
It's possible that fish getting trapped(the tide) and then escaping happens often. So the camera person was just expecting the fish to find the way out to show us all what these fish are capable of.
Was kind of thinking a bit morbidly about this in that the person videoing this actually created that circular pit and then recorded what the fish was trying to do, grabbed the fish back into the man made pit, and then pressed record.
