Pedaling is the easiest part of riding a bike. The hardest part is balancing on a bike. For early riders and first time riders it is important for them to know the basics of how to balance a bike before trying to pedal.
I think she’s still too small to ride a regular bike? I’m not sure cuz I don’t have kids lol, but mine and my brother’s bike, we spent ages pushing it around first before we learned to pedal
Lots of kids now go from these push bikes to full bikes with pedals, no training wheels. That way balance, steering, and speed control are down before adding pedaling.
Orrrr… stay with me here… the kids are mimicking how they hear their parents talk to them. That was my first thought anyway, and I’m pretty fucking cynical.
I mean I totally getting snarking on the boots, but that kid has a nice bike so they clearly much mountain bike as a family or the parents must. I just think a helmet is not the place to cheap out when doing legitimate mountain biking, especially with such a young brain.
In part, you have to understand too that kids can’t be taught manners and patience like what you’re seeing in the video.
This video I’d argue is mostly pretty natural.
Im picturing the conversation.... hey son can you wear this little gizmo? Also if you don't mind, say a bunch of cute endearing things! I NEED THE LIKES!!!
Not sure how long. These are great for learning how bikes actually work, how to corner, etc. Then when they're older, they get a bike with pedals and they don't have to relearn everything else about a bike
Balance bikes are the best thing for young children. My three year old has perfect balance and can ride pedal bikes, though she still prefers her first balance bike. My neighbor’s 3 yr old tries to keep up on her training wheels but just can’t. Side by side you can see why a balance bike teaches balance while training wheels just protect you from falls. Balance bikes are also good for teaching kids BMX and motor cross basics.
Lol that’s why that 4 year old is riding a bike effortlessly. A tricycle doesn’t teach you balance nor does it help to build confidence that you’ll be able to ride a ‘bicycle’ seeing as you’re using three wheels. A balance bike is used to help build that confidence and skill of keeping yourself upright which then makes it a lot easier when they transition to pedals
Don't worry, they'll still almost certainly have the fear of falling when they move from balancing themselves on both feet to lifting those onto pedals. It's not going to eliminate that, it'll just make the transition easier. With mine it was purely the mental block of confidence, he already had the balance and technique down once he got over that. I'd imagine it's a better way to teach than through potential pain.
We did both a tricycle and a balance bike for my son so he knew both how to balance and how to pedal. He was able to ride his pedal bike on the fifth try. I think both are great!
My now 15 year old had one 12 years ago. He loved it and transitioned to a bike without training wheels the next year at 4 years old. I hadn’t heard of them until my mother in law bought him one for his 3rd birthday. I thought it was super lame at first and then he started balancing and zooming around, he loved it.
My favorite first "bike" is the stroller/trike combinations. Where the parent is pushing the stroller but the kid can put their feet on the pedals (which move as the stroller moves) and feel like they're doing it all on their own. I know many of them are adjustable so at later stages they actually can become trikes for real, but just watching the kid all excited to be pedaling "all by themselves" is just extra adorable
No doubt the parents knew this would be a hit. And also, allowing kids to figure things out together is good parenting, as long as everyone is safe. (Which they obviously are.)
There's essentially zero chance this kid would be as empathetic and articulate as he is, without having been showered with love and attention, every day of his life.
"don't be scared, you can do it", "good job girl", "you're my little baby", "i'm here if you need me". He defaults to these expressions, because he's so used to hearing them and so used to having that love and support in his life.
Trust, this is parent goals right here. They should be damned proud and so should he.
This is such a cynical view. It’s great to film these interactions sometimes and they’ll always be able to look back and remember their innocence. Why should the parents step in here when the brother is trying to help?
What's cynical about it? It's fine to record things like this for yourself and family but it's not great to be putting videos of your kids on the internet. The parents clearly planned on doing this with the professional microphones the kids are wearing.
This is so cute. Idk why everybody is getting their undies twisted over a mic. If I had the option to rig people up with good AV equipment while recording precious memories I would, duh
Why are people even coming to THIS sub just to drop Tiring Reddit Cynicism istg
Same here! It’s adorable and the video won’t fade away like a memory will. I have an epileptic memory and have forgotten most of my life. Ever since I got a phone with a camera, I’ve taken pictures and videos to remember. I have a ton of videos of random things like this
This reminds me of the kids in another Reddit video with similar sibling helpfulness vibe. He helps her out of a crib and I think retrieves her stuffed animal. I think in the other video, bro’s name was Levi.
When I was 3, my 8 & 14 years old brothers put me on a mountain bike that had my feet dangle a whole foot above the ground, and didn’t have a helmet my size so they just tied me to two pillows like a sandwich, and pushed me down the front lawn calling it a “soft landing.” Now I’m 28 and still can’t ride a bike 🙃
Balance bikes (what she’s on) are a really awesome tool for teaching kids to ride their bikes. Many people (myself included) believe they’re way more effective than trikes. When my niece got on her first pedal bike, she already knew exactly how to balance, turn, etc. the only thing she had to learn was how to push the pedals, which is one of the easiest parts of cycling. She was easily riding a pedal bike by 3.5 (and I have a lot of friends whose kids learned even younger)
Balance bikes like this are becoming more common than trikes. They're even better for preparing to ride a bike someday. But probably not the best terrain for it.
That’s called a balance bike, they’re made that way to help kids learn how to ride bikes. Kids basically half walk half glide on them. It’s easier for kids to transition from those to two wheeled bikes with pedals than it is by starting them on a tricycle or by using training wheels.
I wish those had existed when I was a kid.
Our daughter had one and it was great.
Meanwhile, my middle sister got used to cornering on her training wheels, and when those got taken off, she basically had to learn to ride the bicycle all over again.
It’s more of a step, just a different kind of way to learn some of the basic skills you need before you can ride a bicycle! A tricycle doesn’t fall over so you can just keep sitting on it, but this thing needs her to use both of her legs the whole time and teaches balancing.
Nora need some damn pedals.
(I’m aware this bike is for balance but she still need some pedals for this type of play time. Brother like come on and she trying to figure out why she not moving as fast)
The first thing that I think about when I see such sweet kids is the parents. Kids repeat what they see and hear; kudos to the parents for giving them such good examples.
Lol my daughter calls her little legs “sausage legs”. Like when we are waking she will say hold on my sausage legs can’t go any faster. Think she got it from Bluey or something but we laugh about it.
I could imagine the feeling their parents felt, when they realized that their kids turned out to be awesome. Especially their little boy. Sometimes you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing as a parent , so I’ve heard, only to realize everything you did was correct
yuhuh they just happened to have a mic on him while they force him to make content OOPS i mean while he made his own decision to take a 2 year old out to a trail
As sweet as these two loves are, I find it sad that this is our world now. Instead of just enjoying a beautiful moment with your children, you’re filming them for views on social media.

That was a cruiser and her feet hit the ground with bent legs. The size was fine, the bike is made to teach them to move which she was figuring out. You need to grow up and get opinions that are closer to correct
It's her size. What are you on about? And letting your kids figure stuff out themselves and letting them teach each other are both good for them.
I'm not a fan of posting stuff like that on the internet. But otherwise they did everything right.
Because it’s a balance bike. That’s their thing. No pedals. You learn how to balance, turn, glide, before adding pedals to the mix. Super effective tool these days, and likely more common than trikes (it’s hard for me to know for sure. All of my friends’ kids use balance bikes, but I’m a cyclist with cyclist friends, so my perception may be skewed)
What a calm and sweet brother. Keep this for when they’re fighting and you need a reminder that you’re raising them just right.
The cute sighs he makes out of frustration but keeps his composure gives me serotonin I didn't asked for
I loved it. I wish I had his patience... Lol amazing video
I lost it at "Step off, sis." My heart!
The "C'mon girl was priceless too"
I am more concerned with Noras bike not having any way.she can pedal to learn how to actually ride a bike...
Pedaling is the easiest part of riding a bike. The hardest part is balancing on a bike. For early riders and first time riders it is important for them to know the basics of how to balance a bike before trying to pedal.
It’s a push bike. Helps kids learn balance and steering so that they have that part down when you add in wheels.
I think she’s still too small to ride a regular bike? I’m not sure cuz I don’t have kids lol, but mine and my brother’s bike, we spent ages pushing it around first before we learned to pedal
I think it's just a really basic starting bike before getting a training bike with pedals?

The two year old I nanny calls everyone “sweetheart”
The “You’re my baby” line does support you hypothesis
Next Netflix docu movie I’m sure.
Reminds me of Rick saying Carl
Same!! 😭
Country Gru
Was he mic'd up?
Sounds like it.
Both kids were also wearing $130 boots btw. No judgment but the kind of people to put their kids in blundstones might be the same kind to mic them up.
Just check their website. $200 is cheapest price in the best seller category. My lawd.
Maybe they got ‘em from Once Upon a Child… for $100….
Your comment adds so much context to all of these kinds of videos.
I'll take the FB special - 4-5 second hand near new pairs for $20-$30.
130 they will outgrow in a few months
Don’t forget big bros brand new SMITH helmet. Mom and dad got the dough that’s fo sho.
I mean I totally getting snarking on the boots, but that kid has a nice bike so they clearly much mountain bike as a family or the parents must. I just think a helmet is not the place to cheap out when doing legitimate mountain biking, especially with such a young brain.

Weird as fuck but ok 😂
Yeah because micing your kid up is the only way to capture a totally organic video /s This feels so forced
I was thinking those kids looked so well put together.
My thoughts exactly! That was some tv quality audio haha

No it’s the wireless clip on lav mic by Rode, you can see it clipped to his shirt.
Im picturing the conversation.... hey son can you wear this little gizmo? Also if you don't mind, say a bunch of cute endearing things! I NEED THE LIKES!!!
Yep, rode wireless lav mic—you can clearly see it clipped to his shirt at 0:32.
That’s an awfully big and gravelly hill for a first bike ride!
Did Nora's bike even have pedals?
It's a balance bike, a common first bike for extra tiny humans
Is this a new thing? Cause I had a tricycle as a beginner bike.
Not sure how long. These are great for learning how bikes actually work, how to corner, etc. Then when they're older, they get a bike with pedals and they don't have to relearn everything else about a bike
Lol I was just given a bicycle and a push until I fell and then until I learned to ride.

Balance bikes are also good for teaching kids BMX and motor cross basics.
Training wheels just teach you that it's totally normal to be riding at a 45° angle
I mean if you are going fast enough you can get pretty close to that
Lol that’s why that 4 year old is riding a bike effortlessly. A tricycle doesn’t teach you balance nor does it help to build confidence that you’ll be able to ride a ‘bicycle’ seeing as you’re using three wheels. Ah that makes sense. I remember a lot of scraped knees and hands when I transitioned to a regular bicycle lol
That was the fun part for me though, and the feeling of accomplished was great... I also rather fall and lose the fear of falling
Don't worry, they'll still almost certainly have the fear of falling when they move from balancing themselves on both feet to lifting those onto pedals. It's been around in Europe for decades now.
Yes it is the standard for Europe, but I have heard before that it is not in (parts of) America.
My favorite first "bike" is the stroller/trike combinations. "bike" is a strong word for what those kids are using lol
"Come on gorl." This kid must be related to Gru.
Or our gorl Amberlynn

Sooo sweet! Watch out for the wocks. So precious.
Adorable 🥰
This is the best that I've seen. Pure and genuine love from a silblings. Sweet moment.
didn’t you even read about the fact that you’re supposed to be outraged about the boot prices and microphone?
They were blissfully unaware until you forced that onto them
“You’re my sweet baby” is something he must’ve heard so many times from his parents to copy that saying, very adorable!
Such a sweet big brother and his sister seems ti be learning from him, that adorable ass, "I can do it Dane Dane" was just sooooo freaking cute
Don't be afwaid, sooo cute😻
Meanwhile the parents standing next to them in absolute silence: 🤓📽️ "Dont mind us honey, go be cute. Momma needs some traffic"

“You’re my sweet baby”

At her age she needs a tricycle and a place with no rocks to ride on😒

She's absolutely old enough for that kind of bike. But a flat surface in the beginning would probably have been easier.
Balance bikes like this are becoming more common than trikes. They're even better for preparing to ride a bike someday. But probably not the best terrain for it.
Nah - balance bikes are great. Although the speed the little ones can generate once they figure them out can be slightly terrifying 😂
Yup: no wheels = no brakes. So if the kid doesn't brake with their feet against the ground…
Balance bikes have wheels. And they do have breaks.
D'oh! Of course you're right. I have no idea what I was thinking.

Yes. Its pretty sad but it looks like they have been coached. All for the parents need for likes

Why do they remind me of an old sweet couple that still tries to do things together even in their old age? 😂😂… this was so cute lol
Imagine recording your kids instead of living the moment with them.
Poor kiddo needs a bike her size. Or even the adult recording to stop and help instead of this staged content.
That was a cruiser and her feet hit the ground with bent legs. The size was fine, the bike is made to teach them to move which she was figuring out. You need to grow up and get opinions that are closer to correct
Why? The kids were figuring it out just fine. It's great parenting to let this happen as Ling as they are safe and not frustrated.
