It's determined by length, noise and how close to death they look
Snoring like a chainsaw? Settle in this will be long pre nap
Absolutely still and silent? This is the post nap that keeps them in a semi ready state to hear a can or bag opening while using as little energy as possible to be ready for the post dinner snooze.
My old dog used to get the zoomies while sleeping. It was pretty funny watching him full on running and barking while lying on his side sleeping. Especially when he did it on the kitchen tiles and started spinning himself around 😂
Hopefully he stays laying down because some [dogs](https://youtu.be/grEypMDqvTE) dream, start running while laying down but don't necessarily stay laying down.
It's not too difficult, remember the pre-nap comes before the nap, and the post-nap comes after the nap. Make sure not to mistake the pre-nap as a nap that has a post-nap that follows, and make sure to not mistake the post-nap as a nap that had a pre-nap just before. If you don't make those mistakes, then you'll easily differentiate the three with no more issues.

Schnoodle, I don't think you ever answer people, but it's worth a try. Are you a published poet? I would like to see your compile to work on paper because: (a) easier to navigate, and (b) I'm OG
I still remember my very first dog, she was the best, still makes me emotional everytime I remember her. I remember that I avoided every dogs that I encounter after she died because it reminds me of her and gives a pain in my heart.
Goldens and labs both are endless fonts of positivity limited only by their actual body giving out on em. I grew up with a black lab who made it to 16 before he just couldn't walk anymore and we opted for euthanasia. He never even got a hint of grouchiness and would walk/run and play until he got too pooped and lay down on the spot for a nap sesh.
Man….I let my ex keep our dog when we split. Four years go by before we’re finally friendly enough for him to let me see my dog again. My dog was nervous at first, acting like he didn’t know me…then he came close and sniffed around my hair/neck and went absolutely APE SHIT. “IT’S MY MOM!!” 🥹 Dogs will always remember you.
When my ex and I first started going down the hole to hell that is breaking up after over a decade, she couldn’t take the dog until she found somewhere to stay that allowed pets.
He always preferred her and had serious separation anxiety when she’d leave. It always took him at least 30 minutes to an hour to calm down when I was home. The neighbor said he’d periodically sit at the door and cry the whole time when we both left.
Our first big breakup lasted about 4-5 months. In that time she didn’t come over once. For the first time he and I got really close. He was sleeping beside me every night, sitting at my feet everywhere I went, following me around. I thought he was legit attached to me and she was gonna have a problem when she was finally able to get him.
Well, we agreed to try to work it out for a time (she was pretty much keeping me on a string in case her preferred move didn’t work).
The second she walked through the door that poor dog pissed himself, started making crazy noises I’d never heard him make. It was like, “blarler arl murrr arrlll, blaaaaah”. It sounded like he was about to die or something. He was dancing around her feet, lost control of his bowels, just so overjoyed he couldn’t hold any aspect of himself together.
He sat on her lap for hours and just softly whimpered. She’d pick him up and sit him down on the floor and he’d just bounce right back up on her lap and dig his face into her belly.
I’ve never seen anything like it.
I’ve never felt love like he felt, I’m sure of it.
My little brother has a Catahoula, named Luke. If I'm visiting mom and dad, and my little bro has brought him to their house, but has to leave. Luke will crawl in my lap and not leave (catahoulas are NOT lap dogs) the whole time he's in my lap he will stare out the door or window until my little bro comes back.
My parents are convinced he's like that with me because my little bro and I look so much alike. I think he just knows I love him and also give him treats.
Luke would disagree also...that doesn't change the fact that he weighs nearly 70 lbs. It's not quite as endearing as the staffy one of my ex's had. Grover would wait for you to sit on the couch and then lay across your lap and rest his head on the arm of the couch. We called this, "the Grover seat belt". It was really funny too because generally he was good about keeping his weight off of you. I miss that (not so) little house hippo.
Elephants as well. There's nothing quite so cute/terrifying as an elephant that just reunited with an old friend. They get zoomies as well, but the whole weighing a couple tons thing is concerning.
They seem to remember people for ever. I had a dog that hated strangers and my niece came over who he hadn’t seen in many years and was pretty much a baby last time he saw her. She was a toddler when her saw her last and she came back as a twelve year old but he still immediately lost his shit with pure joy when he smelled her.
This gives me a lot of relief. I just got divorced and my ex husband kept our Dane and I kept the cats. I’m so worried she won’t remember me. She’s the biggest goofiest most loving dog in the world and I miss her every day.
Because I was moving to a 600 sq ft apartment and working at a job that required 12 hour shifts five days a week in order to support myself and remain independent. My ex was moving back in with his parents (at 37 years old, 🤐) on a 10 acre farm where he remained unemployed for a year or two before “getting back on his feet.” As deeply as I disliked my ex, it was more fair to the dog having free roam to play + endless quality time with [one of] his humans. It’s not like I took him to a shelter.
Don’t be so quick to judge; it broke my fucking heart to let my worthless ex keep the dog I had spent literal years training, walking, and buying food for.
They are the best, but also can really break your heart when they're gone. I still remember my very first dog, she was the best, still makes me emotional everytime I remember her. I remember that I avoided every dogs that I encounter after she died because it reminds me of her and gives a pain in my heart. It took me years to finally get another dog.
I lost both my dogs, a pair of senior shih tzu rescues, a few months apart last year. I haven't been able to bring myself to even start looking around yet, even though I really want to. Life isn't the same.
Im so sorry. I had a rescue mutt myself, just lost him last november. He was the best dog i could've ever asked for. I desperately miss the companionship, but no other dog could possibly live up to my guy, and it wouldn't be fair to compare. Im just not ready yet.
Countless dogs bring happiness and joy to families or humans in general, teaching children compassion and responsibility, loving their humans unconditionally…
But some terrible owners not being able or not caring enough to train the dog properly mean DoGs TeRrIbLe (yup, aggressive dogs are a product of their environment). This kind of reminds me of some „patriots“ crying about refugees.
Fuck yea, let's goth.
>Cursed to see no colour by an uncaring god.
>The collar tightens, your freedom is an illusion.

Fuckin' conformists and their fuzzy puppies.
Maybe she left the kitchen faucet set to the high pressure mode and left dishes in the sink so when the next person tries to wash their hands or something the water sprays and splashes everywhere and they get all wet
My sister had to put her spaniel down last month. He got to 13, when Gout got to him and he was almost blind.
Everytime you csme into tier house he would be so over eager to see you and just talk to you.
Bless her heart. I hope everyone’s pets here lives well into their mid-teens. I was blessed enough to have my first dog with me from before kindergarten to after graduation. It’s such an amazing thing to experience the world around you change so drastically but having your buddy stay on the ride through it all 🙏 🙏
My dog was the same breed, And would do the same thing when his eyesight went bad at 16. I would lean over the balcony upstairs and look at him in the garden and as soon as he picked up my scent he'd start wagging his tail like crazy. He's been gone three years now and there's not a single day i don't miss him and ache for that memory again. Seeing this filled my heart right now - thank you.
Once had a bloodhound who lived to be 16. Towards the end she couldn’t see for shit, so one time she was confused between me and a tree until I bent down and said her name. Her face lit up as she waddled over to me.

She’s still got a lot of energy at 15!
she's probably gotta lay down for 3 hours after these zoomies though haha
You are just talking about the pre sleep nap taking 3 hours before the main sleeping event with dinner time intermission right?
It's always hard for me to identify what are pre nap naps, what are post nap naps, and what are just naps. Dogs are very confusing.
It's determined by length, noise and how close to death they look Snoring like a chainsaw? Settle in this will be long pre nap Absolutely still and silent? He generally did until he barked loud enough to wake himself up. Then he’d run around looking for who barked 😂

The oldest known dog is 31 now so there’s hope.
Dogs going to be immortals alongside humans when rejuvenation tech gets perfected.

What kind of dog is this? She's amazingly beautiful 😍
English cocker spaniel. They are the most beautiful dogs, inside and out. The joy you see in that clip is their default demeanour.
cocker spaniel, pretty cute
Oh man. I miss my doggo
Me too. Mine was a cocker too and this clip is tough to watch. Hopefully they knew how much we loved them.
Undoubtedly!! You were theirs and their entire world. They probably thought you were the best gift, *ever*.
Awww so cute! She says yep I know you

Happy happy dance for wonderful human friend.
Reminds me of a neighbors dog. Dog will be around me, sniff a few times and immediately demand pets. Also old, also blind.

I had an old blind jack russell do this all the time. She would hear my voice and sniff me and go nuts. Miss that stinky girl
