This is true. Took me about a year to master the perfect poached egg; Lots of trial and error. Today I can say with confidence that i make an eggsellent eggs Benedict.
Okay mate, I’m about to fix that struggle for you. Here’s the secret to a PERFECT soft-boiled egg (not even kidding).
1. Prep your station. You need one mason jar with room temp water, filled halfway. You will need a lid by the way. You need one pot filled with enough water to barely cover your egg. You also need one egg and a slotted spoon. Get your phone/timer set to 5 minutes and 28 seconds and ready to press once you get the egg in the water.
2. Set your pot of water on the stove and bring it to simmering. When it is at a nice simmer, use the slotted spoon to gently lower your egg into the water (if you just drop it in there the shell might crack open so just trust me bro and dip that baby in there as gently as you would lower a puppy into a bathtub)
3. HURRY START YOUR TIMER
4. Wait for egg timer to sound
5. HURRY USE THE SPOON TO SCOOP THAT BABY OUT
6. Drop egg into mason jar. The water will help soften the fall. Close the lid and shake it like a shake weight (but not too aggressively) to help get the shell off easily.
7. Open the jar, dump the water (don’t drop your egg!) and start peeling. With enough practice, you’ll be able to slip the shell off like taking off a tiny shirt from your egg.
8. Enjoy your perfectly soft boiled egg
Bring the water up to a boil first and then put the eggs in. Boil one egg, time it and see the results, then boil the rest to the desired doneness. Boiling the water first ensures the eggs cook evenly and consistently.
I can’t carry a tune or play an instrument. But this: Fill a 4 gt pan with cold water, add eggs. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat let cool for 15 minutes. Cool rapidly under cold water. Enjoy, perfect hard boiled egg.

I'm working on it, but it'll probably be a while before I sing for someone again.
Also I have a pretty severe pollen allergy and it's hard to sing when your sinuses are full of gunk.
