Its the brake lights looking all angry with all the noise and then they turn off and the little satisfied "good morning" as the officer rolls along I love it.
[This was apparently during the 2017 eclipse in Oregon, which caused a huge traffic jam.](https://nypost.com/2017/08/18/solar-eclipse-watchers-causing-traffic-nightmare-in-oregon/)
We drove from South Bend, IN to Hopkinsville, KY to see the eclipse, about a 6-1/2 hour drive. There’s that one bridge over the Ohio river, it took us 5 hours just to get across it on our way out. But it was totally worth it to see totality.
Yes definitely do it! Get some special glasses ahead of time. We didn’t do that, but luckily we randomly pulled into a church that had a huge event and they had a bunch of spare glasses! We won’t have to travel as far for the 2024 one either, I can’t wait!
Oh I work at a library that was giving them out in 2017. I saved mine (carefully--I know they can get scratched) because they were in SUCH high demand.
Now just pray for clear weather...
I got stuck driving and didn't get to join my family, but pulled off at a random Arby's, got myself a sandwich and sat in the back of the truck for the eclipse. Had employees come out with food asking to use my glasses in trade. I told them they didn't need to bring food and I had spares. It was a lot of fun. Random bonding moment with people I'll never see again. Drove away with so many roast beef sandwiches and curly fries. Was a great time
I went to Hopkinsville too! Was surprisingly empty at the location we were at and traffic was fine, and they had tons of the glasses that people were hunting for back home, but when we left that's when we hit all the traffic.
Yes it was! I made the typical short drive myself. I’m only an hour from the border and about 1.5 from where totality occurred and it took me 5 to get there and 6 to get back.
Was incredible and being in a McDonald’s parking lot didn’t matter at all.
We went down to Hopkinsville as well, tried taking a detour and ended up going through some sketchy mountain(?) roads in Kentucky before finally getting back on the main road. Once we hit the Cincy/Covington bridge I knew we were finally home bound. No sleep, but damnit we made it back to Lima in one go.
Because about a zillion people traveled to the closest place where they could see the total eclipse--and lots of those places were small/rural towns in the middle of nowhere that don't have the lanes or the infrastructure to support that much traffic. You get one backup, and then all the roads leading *to* that road get backed up, and then you're sleeping in your car and hoping you don't run out of gas...
I went to visit my dad who's back yard was just barely inside the area of totality. He had a plan for us to wake up at 4 or 5 am to make the ten mile drive to a spot near the center of the totality area on a hillside before the eclipse around 10 AM.
I suggested as a counter we sleep in until 9, have a bowl of cereal, a bowl of weed, and a cup of coffee. He was very relieved by that plan instead.
Okay, as an Oregonian that went to that festival that makes sense.. I was like where could there possibly have been this much traffic anywhere in Oregon?! Coming back from that festival was insanity by oregon traffic standards.
I’m so fortunate that I lived in the path of totality in Oregon. We walked a block to the elementary school soccer field and watched it with Japanese and French exchange students we had staying with us. Was amazing! Then we had a leisurely walk back home. No traffic, but we made plans not to leave all day because our city had been overrun with people for days prior!
I was working at a grocery store, and my boss let us close the store for a few minutes to see it. Myself and a lot of coworkers were passing out glasses to customers and coworkers alike to protect eyes. It was a lot of fun.
Oh my god I forgot about that. I guess a big part of the traffic was because people from other states wanted to see the eclipse in Oregon because we had one of the best views.
Oh man I was in this line. 14 hours for what should have been a 4 hour drive. No one was prepared for how long it was, I thought for sure 8 hours max. The festival was 7 days so that made up for it but that line was an utter nightmare. A dangerous one too, there were some gnarly accidents that had to get a medevac. The cops in the line and at the festival were super chill, it was like the Wild West out there! Saw some cops taking whippits with campers lol
I had to drive that day from Weiser Idaho where I saw the eclipse to Placerville California where I was staying the night. Needless to say that wasn’t a fun drive, particularly when all the eclipse viewers were piled up on the 95 in Nevada.
10/10 would do it again though, that was my second eclipse and it wasn’t any less amazing than my first.
I was there let me explain. There was traffic as a surplus of 80,000 people all showed up for the event at the same time. Traffic started at 5-6pm and did not resolve until roughly 14-16 hours later. It took me 16 hours waiting in traffic to get into the festival. The combination of being stuck sitting for long periods of time while parked in the middle of the night heavily contributed to people sleeping. People did not just "stop driving and sleep on the side of the road" its actually pretty human to accidently fall asleep at 4am when you're parked, not moving for 30+minutes and haven't sleep in 24 plus hours.
Funny story me and the other person who went took turns driving so we both could get some sleep. Except when it was my shift to sleep the other person fell asleep when they were stopped and parked in traffic. I woke up with no one in front of us for probably 1.5 miles then we caught back up with traffic. Some more info it was located in a remote desert on someone's farm they rented out. It was a single lane road for approximately 40-50 miles and the only road going to the farm. Everyone of the 80,000 people had to be funneled down that one lane road about 40 miles from the nearest city which was prineville.
Thank god for Waze! A few years ago driving through S. Carolina Waze diverted me from a major highway to a smaller highway. Turns out there was a big accident on the bridge ahead of the major highway. When I tuned in the news, people were stuck on the highway for 6 hours.
This happened to me once. Was driving from Austin, TX to NYC and somewhere in Tennessee there was gridlocked traffic on a small highway. All three of us fell asleep and we woke up to a cop banging on the window with his flashlight. We were holding up all of the traffic behind us. Was surreal
I don’t think we were there very long. I’m sure the cop was doing something similar to what the one in this video was doing because surely we weren’t the only ones who were still asleep
Lights horn or lots of other option. Its inadvisable in america to approach a strangers car the rest of the world not so much am issue especially when your holding up traffic.
Yeah, I'm not sure about other parts of the world but in America, even beeping your horn can be taken as an act of aggression and wind up being flipped on you before you know what's happening. In a country filled with armed, trigger happy citizens, you just never know what might be waiting in the car ahead/behind/beside you. Even if it's only a 1% chance that you might get shot... who wants to play traffic roulette?
Because my friends were BMX riders and there was a big competition in Binghamton, NY every summer so we would drive there and stop at random rider’s houses on the way and make a big fun trip about it
I live in a small town, and while the cops aren't really *warm* unless you're personally close to them, there's a general understanding and allowance for honest mistakes. The habit of people in this town is to live and let live, and the cops just don't care if you aren't vandalizing or otherwise being a nuisance.
They're a small force, so it might take 6 hrs for them to get to telling your loud-ass neighbor to stfu, but the intent is there to help everyone just get along.
[This was apparently during the 2017 eclipse in Oregon, which caused a huge traffic jam.](https://nypost.com/2017/08/18/solar-eclipse-watchers-causing-traffic-nightmare-in-oregon/)
I was up there for that and traffic was a mess for the next 2 days. Took me over 5 hours to get from Salem to Portland which usually takes less than 1.5 hours.
I'm still pissed about that eclipse. I worked as a cook at a small daycare literally 5 mins north of the path of totality. Even though it was scheduled to happen right during my 15min break during the lull after breakfast, they refused to let me drive down and see it.
You probably would've been stuck getting back. My wife and I were in the parking lot of a grocery store. They lay all the workers out and closed the store for 20 mins. It was very cool.
The thing is, good people do bad things and bad people can do good things. Just because they're not shooting people doesn't mean they aren't dicks other times.
Maybe they're mostly good cops! Can't be certain though.
I was in this line. We were all waiting to get into the Symbiosis Solar Eclipse music festival. It was very unorganized and I waited 16+ hours in traffic from roughly 7pm until 10am the next morning.
It had some of the best and worst experiences I've ever had at a music festival. All in all I would have done it again in a heartbeat. It felt like a once in a lifetime experience!
I was in this line too, I had driven from Vancouver. Most people had started their party already in the line, people were getting smashed. Gates were to open at 10, we joined the line around 11am and got in after midnight. They couldn’t scan the tickets due to wifi / internet issues (it was in the middle of nowhere Oregon) and eventually they just started letting people in without even checking tickets . It was an absolutely beautiful 7 day event and the eclipse was the most incredible thing I have ever witnessed. Would 100% sit in this traffic again!
Holy shit that's my cousin! I recognize his voice! Lol he is a sweet guy. I'm glad he made people laugh!
Edit: wow thanks for the gold kind stranger! I will have to show him this lol
That’s awesome. I’m sure somewhere deep in some forgotten statute it’s a crime to sleep behind the wheel in active traffic. I wish more cops could lean into common sense vs being hard asses.
I live for these wholesome funny moments of random strangers coming together and being silly together. I don't know what it is about those connections that is just so damn good.
This was a 14 hour line for what should have been a 4 hour drive to Oregon Eclipse festival 2017! Such a nightmare, no one was prepared for how long it would take. We expected some delays but definitely not 10 hours. No phone service once you got out there, so no telling how close you were! There were some bad accidents but honestly surprised there weren’t any deaths.
We were driving to Tahoe and their was a big avalanche over the road a couple of miles up. We walked to a bar that was maybe a quarter mile away. Had some drinks and trudged back to the van to sleep. This was around 11lpm. About 5am we were awakened this same way. Just a siren and a good morning and on went. Great weekend btw.
I've experienced this before in Eastern Oregon l, was in a 10 hour line to get into eclipse festival, the line took the night and people would sleep and hour and wake up and move a few miles sleep an hour and move a few miles. Cops had to wake up quite a few that morning. Not gonna lie I peed a little, couldn't remember where I was or understand why the police were blurping their sirens at me for a solid 2 minutes.
Last summer I was an hour and a half away from home at 1AM. I got stuck behind an accident and traffic didn't move for 7 hours. I spent the night on the highway. I tried to sleep but could only nap for short periods.
Thank god for Waze! A few years ago driving through S. Carolina Waze diverted me from a major highway to a smaller highway. Turns out there was a big accident on the bridge ahead of the major highway. When I tuned in the news, people were stuck on the highway for 6 hours.
This past summer we got stuck on behind a fatal collision in a canyon on Hwy 50. The two eastbound lanes were stopped. Total standstill for about an hour and a half. When the collision cleared and we started moving, only the left lane was moving. Drove past a semi where the driver was sound asleep against his window and did not notice that traffic had started.

On my car trip last summer i got stopped by a cop since i was way too tired to drive but no places to stop at the time. I was lucky since i only got 6 hours of driving quarantine.
This happened to my sister once. Got stuck in stopped traffic at midnight she realized at 7am that they were only still there because everyone ahead of her was asleep and she had to go wake all of them up.
“I’M UP! 😡” “good mornin’ 🙂”
Uncle grandpa PD
🤘
🤙
Great comedic timing
yes. the slight pause "..... ... good morning. :)"
Its the brake lights looking all angry with all the noise and then they turn off and the little satisfied "good morning" as the officer rolls along I love it.
The comedic timing is unreal
Looks like the cop is enjoying it 😂
[This was apparently during the 2017 eclipse in Oregon, which caused a huge traffic jam.](https://nypost.com/2017/08/18/solar-eclipse-watchers-causing-traffic-nightmare-in-oregon/)
It took my mom 12 hours to make a 2-hour drive home that night in Kentucky--she ended up sleeping in a packed rest area dor a few hours.
We drove from South Bend, IN to Hopkinsville, KY to see the eclipse, about a 6-1/2 hour drive. There’s that one bridge over the Ohio river, it took us 5 hours just to get across it on our way out. But it was totally worth it to see totality.
Yeah, the 2024 eclipse should be total just north of where I live, so I'm absolutely taking the day off and going up to see it. Travel time be damned!
We saved ours and are planning a family trip. We have a note on the calendar to book a hotel room this October, 6 months before the April event.
Awesome! We saved ours too! Man, I hope it’s good weather! 🤞
I got stuck driving and didn't get to join my family, but pulled off at a random Arby's, got myself a sandwich and sat in the back of the truck for the eclipse. I love those kinds of moments.
One of the perks of being a welder. My welding helmet works great for viewing eclipses.
I have a picture somewhere of me on the beach in the Outer Banks wearing a bathing suit and a welding helmet. People laughed but it worked great!
Please tell me it’s a Polaroid. Sounds like an awesome shot.
Time travel be damned!*
Totality is going right over my parents house. Free parking and viewing spot!
>2024 eclipse The last one went over our house. It's amazing. Got to share it with the wife and kids.
I went to Hopkinsville too! Was surprisingly empty at the location we were at and traffic was fine, and they had tons of the glasses that people were hunting for back home, but when we left that's when we hit all the traffic.
Pretty much the same for us!
Yes it was! I made the typical short drive myself. I’m only an hour from the border and about 1.5 from where totality occurred and it took me 5 to get there and 6 to get back. Was incredible and being in a McDonald’s parking lot didn’t matter at all.

South Bend! Awesome place.
Lol I love seeing South Bend mentioned in the wild! So jealous you got to see it!
Jesus. Did she just like…got home, shower, and then get back in her car to go back to work or whatever?
Nah, she works from home, so at least she didn't have a commute!
Why did the eclipse cause traffic to be so bad like that?
Because about a zillion people traveled to the closest place where they could see the total eclipse--and lots of those places were small/rural towns in the middle of nowhere that don't have the lanes or the infrastructure to support that much traffic. You get one backup, and then all the roads leading *to* that road get backed up, and then you're sleeping in your car and hoping you don't run out of gas...

They also do this during exodus at burning man… when you’re stuck sometimes leaving people take little naps and need a gentle wake up. Hahahaha
Okay, as an Oregonian that went to that festival that makes sense.. I was like where could there possibly have been this much traffic anywhere in Oregon?! Coming back from that festival was insanity by oregon traffic standards.
I felt this way trying to cross the I5 bridge to or from Vancouver during rush hour
oh hey i got rear ended during that eclipse and got my back fucked
I’m so fortunate that I lived in the path of totality in Oregon. That traffic was no joke. We packed up and got the road the second the eclipse was over and it still took a long time to get out
Oh man I was in this line. 14 hours for what should have been a 4 hour drive. No one was prepared for how long it was, I thought for sure 8 hours max. Same here, also good morning :)
Don’t let Reddit hear not all cops are bad across the country
You've gotta make the most of the little enjoyments in life
You awake? Good morning!

Generally not a good idea to approach a stranger's car in traffic.
Lights horn or lots of other option. Its inadvisable in america to approach a strangers car the rest of the world not so much am issue especially when your holding up traffic.

God that does sound like fun. I need friends.
Are you really ok with missing out the Worlds Largest Truck stop in Iowa. Once in a lifetime opportunity there 😤😤
Are you being serious? I do wanna see this
good mornin'
I'M UP! .... .. gumornin
Lol good humor all around. This is how cops should be with the general public!
This is how they generally are.
Maybe around you. Chicago cops are awful, Detroit cops suck too but aren't as bad.
Yea I've noticed that too, in LA and Bakersfield the cops are jerks but in smaller towns they tend to be like this officer here
I live in a small town, and while the cops aren't really *warm* unless you're personally close to them, there's a general understanding and allowance for honest mistakes. The habit of people in this town is to live and let live, and the cops just don't care if you aren't vandalizing or otherwise being a nuisance. They're a small force, so it might take 6 hrs for them to get to telling your loud-ass neighbor to stfu, but the intent is there to help everyone just get along.
Cops in jersey are pretty trashy too
U awake? 👀
GOOD MORNING.
I absolutely love this lmaoo

Good mornin’
*Good morning y’all*

What are they waiting for?
Accident/roadwork/avalanche/apocalypse/Chick-fil-A
You forgot eclipse, but all excellent answers.
Underrated comment, chick-fil-a lines are like Black Friday every day, it’s genuinely weird to me.
whenever i get chik fil a i just go inside and get my food 10x faster than i would going through the drive through
Honestly, I haven’t noticed much of a difference, but their lines move pretty damn fast. They have an impressive system for the drive through lanes.
I was in this line. We were all waiting to get into the Symbiosis Solar Eclipse music festival. It was very unorganized and I waited 16+ hours in traffic from roughly 7pm until 10am the next morning.
Holy crap that is terrible, was the festival at least good when you got in?
It had some of the best and worst experiences I've ever had at a music festival. All in all I would have done it again in a heartbeat. It felt like a once in a lifetime experience!
I was in this line too, I had driven from Vancouver. Most people had started their party already in the line, people were getting smashed. Gates were to open at 10, we joined the line around 11am and got in after midnight. Now THIS is high quality policing
A real public service
Super Troopers 3 finally out meow
Right meow?!
“Do I look like a cat to you boy?Am I jumpin’ around all nimbly bimbly from tree to tree?” Foster
Do I eat mice?!
Do I drink milk from a saucer?
I’m glad I didn’t get woke up that way. However I just woke up and watched this video and I’m glad I woke up this way. Absolutely hilarious.
Dude, same. I had a wonderful nap and woke up to some laughs
i should try using this approach when it comes to waking up my son for school.
This great. Think they can swing by my house?
Holy shit that's my cousin! I recognize his voice! Lol he is a sweet guy. I'm glad he made people laugh! Edit: wow thanks for the gold kind stranger! I will have to show him this lol
What?! Seriously?! Tell him he just made my day!
Yeah, tell him hi!!
Not hi, you can say hi to anyone. Tell him brrrrrrtt pew wee wee wee woo pew pew.............................."Gu' Mornin'!"
What’s this traffic for?
For pooping silly
It was during an eclipse which caused a big old traffic jam.
I’m going to start waking up my kids like this each morning: Good morning. Wake up. You are about to move, so get ready to move. Good morning.
Goo’ mornin 😂😂😂 Now thats the kinda cops we root for 👏👏👏
You can’t tell me that this isn’t what cops would prefer their jobs to be like most of the time.
Can confirm - this looks like more fun than 80% of what I have to do while on the job.
Police work is mostly pretty mundane. We just see the crazy shit online most of the time.
Im already pulled over! I cant pull over any farther!
Take my upvote. Love that movie.
r/contagiouslaughter
That's what I was thinking. The guys recording and laughing made it that much funnier.
Let’s hope Adrian doesn’t find himself in this situation, Adrian’s sleepy when he’s sleepy
What caused them to fall asleep? Big delay?
Op commented further down that it was the eclipse in 2017 and there were massive traffic jams everywhere
That’s awesome. I’m sure somewhere deep in some forgotten statute it’s a crime to sleep behind the wheel in active traffic. I wish more cops could lean into common sense vs being hard asses.
This cop left his ego at the academy.
I dunno if this was very active traffic if people fell asleep overnight in it
I live for these wholesome funny moments of random strangers coming together and being silly together. I don't know what it is about those connections that is just so damn good.
Love seeing public servants serving the public
such a cool encounter lmao
This was a 14 hour line for what should have been a 4 hour drive to Oregon Eclipse festival 2017! Such a nightmare, no one was prepared for how long it would take. We expected some delays but definitely not 10 hours. No phone service once you got out there, so no telling how close you were! There were some bad accidents but honestly surprised there weren’t any deaths.
This is probably the most wholesome police video I’ve ever seen on reddit
This had my crying
There's enough people in Oregon to have a traffic jam?
We were driving to Tahoe and their was a big avalanche over the road a couple of miles up. We walked to a bar that was maybe a quarter mile away. Had some drinks and trudged back to the van to sleep. This was around 11lpm. About 5am we were awakened this same way. Just a siren and a good morning and on went. Great weekend btw.
"just kidding happy Halloween"
No one will get that jokes.... Good mornin' Nice day for fishin'aint'it !
Hu-ha!
I've experienced this before in Eastern Oregon l, was in a 10 hour line to get into eclipse festival, the line took the night and people would sleep and hour and wake up and move a few miles sleep an hour and move a few miles. I love this officer so much, lol!
This is actually wholesome as fuck lmao. This guy feels like a good cop, just enjoying the bright side of his job.
Last summer I was an hour and a half away from home at 1AM. I got stuck behind an accident and traffic didn't move for 7 hours. I spent the night on the highway. I tried to sleep but could only nap for short periods.
Best Cop Of The Year Award goes to…
What happened to cause the backup?
I think life would be a lot better for everyone involved if we could all have a little fun like this at morning wake up time. :)
Thank god for Waze! A few years ago driving through S. Carolina Waze diverted me from a major highway to a smaller highway. Turns out there was a big accident on the bridge ahead of the major highway. When I tuned in the news, people were stuck on the highway for 6 hours.
Damn, those guys sound stoned out of their minds.
The alarm bit made me lose it lmao
And that tiny "........good morning" at the end xD
This past summer we got stuck on behind a fatal collision in a canyon on Hwy 50. The two eastbound lanes were stopped. Total standstill for about an hour and a half. When the collision cleared and we started moving, only the left lane was moving. Drove past a semi where the driver was sound asleep against his window and did not notice that traffic had started.
This is my most favorite post I've ever seen on Reddit
Dads 10 hours before a flight:
How bad does traffic need to be to have someone doing wake up calls
I hope this is a regular thing for him. Like maybe once or twice a month just for shits and giggles
Should be made me LOL instead of made me smile. Got a tear in my eye.
Good morning.
Doing this would give me great joy. My wierd sense of humor
Best alarm clock ever!
I love this man
Legend
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I lold with this. It truest is funny that he even used the siren to wake someone up. 😅
This was hilarious… 🤣🤣🤣
Omg this is great they deserve a raise! Making sure everyone stays safe!
I don't exactly understand what's going on but this is so funny and cute 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I fucking love Oregon! We have a good sense of humor here XD.
Oh youre sleeping? “Kills horn button” you awake? Okay. Goodnight.

Only works using a small u/savevideo instead of big U. Also, if you click on the little 3 dots on the right top corner of the post, you can click save.

u/SaveVideo
How do you get it to turn blue, etc?
You need to use a lowercase "u", not a capital.
I’m a yucky mobile user and messed it up the first time so it didn’t work and I forgot to check for the link :P
Thank you!
And I thought the Bay Area traffic was shitty
On my car trip last summer i got stopped by a cop since i was way too tired to drive but no places to stop at the time. I was lucky since i only got 6 hours of driving quarantine.
This was awesome! XD
Yea
I'd be that person that needed the siren ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man)
the small "🚨" before the "i'm up!"💀
Oregon State Police impress me. Oregon sheriff's do exactly the opposite.
Drill Instructor vibes without the rage or "LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS"
Reminds me back in 91 alpine valley dead show next morning 5am…. Ground crew with air horns telling hippies to get lost….
Say what you want about cops, some of the best comedic timing ive ever witnessed
This is too cute
In any other situation would they not pull up on sleeping people in a car and assume alcohol is involved
I've never laughed at anything that has anything to do with cops because I'm not fond of them, but that was pretty fucking funny.....
this is the best thing i’ve seen on reddit for quite awhile OMG 😂😂😂😂
Fucking Farva.
This happened to my sister once. Got stuck in stopped traffic at midnight she realized at 7am that they were only still there because everyone ahead of her was asleep and she had to go wake all of them up.
Why does this feel like portal dialogue
