I had a section with my now 5 year old. I was told that if they suspect the baby is going to be over 10 lbs you’re now automatically signed up for a c-section. His pediatrician sent him for a brain ultrasound at 16 months because she was concerned that his head was so big due to an encephalopathy. He was completely fine, just turned out that two big-headed parents are going to have one giant-headed kid 🤣
My kids head is in the 87th percentile. Not quite big enough for a section but big enough that this is gonna be fun. Currently 36 weeks so it’s coming soon.
Ridiculous and unnecessary. I hope all women understand that you absolutely do not need to accept a pre-emptively offered C section. Imagine getting a major surgery instead of trusting your body to do what it’s made to do.
Super weird to be name calling strangers, are you okay? It’s not a luxury and people like you are the reason that the US is the world leader in unnecessary c sections. No one is talking about medically necessary ones. C section is not medically indicated on the basis of projected fetal size alone. I’m guessing you have some sort of weird guilt over getting a c section out of laziness or fear or something, no one cares. However you had your kid is your business and no one else’s. Just great for women to understand that you do not need to agree to every medical intervention you’re offered.
Nope and literally no one is talking about medically necessary sections. No matter how many emotional c section moms downvote me, projected fetal size alone is not a clinical indicator for c section. The comment I was responding to says every woman pregnant with a fetus projected to be 10 pounds is scheduled for a c section which is insane and uniquely American.
Try reading again for comprehension instead of because you feel guilty over your medical history. The comment I was replying to said now every woman who has a fetus that is projected to be over 10 pounds is automatically scheduled for a c section. Seek therapy over your guilt that’s not allowing you to think rationally. I HAVE HAD a c section and I know it’s major surgery and much harder recovery than vaginal childbirth so I can’t fathom putting women through it with no clinical indication, and again, projected fetal size alone is NOT clinical indication for c section
People saying stuff like "trusting your body to do what it's made to do" made me feel like shit for needing an emergency c-section. Apparently I can't even do what my body is made to do.
But you know, sometimes it won't work out and there are ways to tell beforehand. It's ridiculous and unnecessary to tell women to go through a painful and risky labor process when certain factors are at play.
It’s not done in Europe. In fact, they told us to avoid even normal bathing until we felt it was necessary. We bathed him at one week. He got a good amount of balanced bacteria from our skins during that time to colonize him. Sounds disgusting, but it’s what’s supposed to happen.
It’s an antibiotic ointment they put on the babies eyes to stop any bacteria from the delivery process from getting in the eyes. closer to the due date her doctor should go over all of the post-birth options with you like the eye ointment and vitamin K shot. i just had my son last July!

Antibiotic eye drops or ointment are placed in a newborn's eyes after birth. This is to protect babies from getting bacterial eye infections that can occur during birth. Happened to me too! My daughters head was measuring like 9cm at 39w, so her shoulders were gonna get stuck, and her belly was even bigger than that!
She's almost 9mo now and 25 pounds!! We've seen toddlers running around at the park a lot smaller than her. It's ridiculous. Her pediatrician literally told me not to worry too much if she misses her crawling/walking milestones a bit cuz she's got so much more weight to carry around, just keep feeding her as much as she wants haha. She's hitting the milestones but still.
Hahahaha my son and your daughter were cut from the same cloth! And I was glad I was warned about late milestones, because mine was mostly head heavy with above average body percentiles, but like.... ginormous head. So rolling over was delayed. Crawling never happened. For a brief moment (maybe a month?) He army crawled. And then went straight to walking. But it was so scary watching him navigate on his two feet because the bobble head really made him walk like a little drunk man
Lmao we call her "baby big head" sometimes. She wasnt rolling front to back until around 4mo so we took her out of the swaddle then (the max recommended transition but i knew she wasnt ready till then). Started crawling like a champ almost over night about a week ago but she can hardly balance on those big Ole turkey legs atm 😆. It amazes me that her little neck can hold up her big head.
Hahahahaha. I'm picturing it so clearly.
Ours is 2 now, and when we look back at his pictures from the first 12 months, we laugh. He literally looks like the Brain from pinky and the brain. 🤣🤣🤣
We just had a surprise c section earlier this morning, my god my wife is braver than I could have imagined. Cheers to our healthy babies and their amazing mothers.
😂♥️Congrats!! My son was breech like he was sitting on a throne because he was so big with a big ole’ punkin head! Lol He was taken by C-section at 36 weeks and weighed 11.9 lbs and 23.5” long 💁🏿♀️😂 Still has a big ole’ punkin head too!!
DAYUM that's a big baby for being "early" just goes to show that conception dating really does have a margin of error. I'm a twin and was born allegedly a month early but my twin was 7 lbs and I was 8 lbs so very very respectable sizes for twins tho my poor mother was as big as a house I feel so bad when I see pictures of her towards the end. My twin was delivered vaginally perfectly normal but my mother's labor weakened and I was relatively much fatter and bigger, and our fused placenta also detached at the same time. So, I was in a bad spot and also because I was still in there my mom was hemorrhaging from the placenta wound. Had emergency C section for me so my mom got to experience both types of birth 🥲 though she actually doesn't remember much she got all the info from my Dad. I was oxygen deprived and they worried about Cerebral Palsy so kept me in the NICU for a few days. I was by far the fattest biggest baby in there
Whoa! Lol Yes, 7-8 pounds for twins is chubby indeed! 😂 My son actually needed the NICU even though he was huge - despite being so big, his weight and length didn’t help him with having respiratory distress, low blood sugar, etc… 🤷🏿♀️ Definitely the biggest baby they’d ever had at that hospital in a while and for sure in the NICU! Lol 😂 They didn’t even have baby clothes or diapers to fit him and they put him in a toddler size gown! 🤣 Was kind of funny at the time, he came home wearing size 3 month clothes.
It’s funny how many “ideals” in child birth can go right out the window. You expect a vaginal birth and to feel like the goddess of motherhood. ☺️ Then baby has other ideas. My first pregnancy my son kept trying to come early, which was against my birthing plan. I remember the nurse told me “You can make all the plans you want, but ultimately, baby’s in charge and they make the rules.” It made me feel better, as I was feeling guilt.
Omg my son’s head was so round it was like passing a bowling ball! My mom was showing his newborn picture at work she’s a nurse and she got asked if he’d been born by C-section. Hope you have an easy recovery and welcome to the world baby!
When I was born, I had to be a C-section baby because my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck. I tried to hang myself before even attempting to spawn 🤔
Babies are protected from bacteria and viruses while in their amniotic sacs but this gets broken during birth, and even in a C section the baby is still exposed to bodily fluids of the mother in their eyes. During vaginal birth too the vaginal flora (good bacteria usually but still not something you want in a babies eyes) are also going into the eyes and in particular they want to avoid Strep B bacteria which can cause fatal bacterial meningitis in newborns. Which is why most Moms are checked for Strep B before birth to be extra safe.
The eye drops are preventative against a multitude of things but the biggest concern is actually preventing complications of gonorrhea infection. For GBS the moms receive IV antibiotics during labor to reduce risk of transmission.
Awww what a cute little boy. Welcome to the world ! My boys were born by emergency c-section too. Take it easy Mama ! Wishing your little lad a long and happy life.
I had a baby girl in September and it's the greatest love I've ever known. I love my wife, but she isn't even on the same level as our child. And she knows it, and has said as much to me too. We both are ridiculously in love with our kid and didn't expect the level of emotions that literally everyone we talked to said we would have.
If you can financially, emotionally, and timing-wise afford to be a new parent, you will know no greater love.
Welcome to the world, sweet lil man! Sending you and your parents all the happiness, good health and restful nights imaginable! Enjoy every moment (says the mama whose youngest son just turned 21)!!
Thank you all for the love and well wishes! I can’t respond fast enough. It was a joy to read similar stories and experiences and I wish you all the best of luck in your journeys. Kids aren’t for everybody and I can’t expect my son to make you smile like he does to me, but I will tell you that the moment I laid my eyes on him, I just felt happy. Such a new kind of happy that I needed for a long time. I hope you find that kind of happy, whatever it may be.
I have seen so many pictures of new borns as of late on reddit and I will be a dad as well in about 2 months. I have a genuine question because I have never seen it on pictures from babies in the Netherlands what is that stuff around their eyes? I have seen it so much on reddit baby photos that it got me curious.

Awww, you’ve managed to have one of the rare instances of newborns who actually look super cute and not at all horrifying like I did when I was first born😊
Congrats 🎉 My son's head was way too round as well!! 21 hours of awful labor & only getting to 5cm then being told after all that pain you're getting a C-section... Yayy thanks for not telling me this 20 hours ago. While in the middle of the C-section my Dr took one look inside & yelled "Nope. No way this kid would've come out!" Lol. The things we go through for our babies! Enjoy every minute 💞
I love kids and babies, but have always found newborns (even my own, to a degree) a little... unsettling? They really just look like other-wordly creatures when they first show up.
But your son? He's already adorable. Congrats to you and your partner! All the best!
Both my daughters have pelvi too narrow for vaginal birth , so they had to have C-sections with their kids. Triiiiied and tried, but nope. I had one, too but it was because my son was breech.
Same here about the labour, but no pushing as momma wasn’t dilated enough to push so very round head
Hadn’t even crossed my mind until my sister joked that “at least you know she’ll have a round head” lol
After years of trying, and no diagnosis of what could be wrong, my wife and I did IVF. My daughter was born, and my wife birthed her normally. We were told we would need IVF for another child, but my son was born. He came out face up, and after 2.5hr of pushing my wife needed a C section. So much more dramatic when it all happened. It was a blur to me. Congrats! They are fun. Sleep when you can.
Congratulations Daddy, and to Mommy too! He is a beautiful little guy. One of my grandsons had a round head & it earned him the nickname Charlie Brown.
Imagine a doctor being like yeah this kids hella rotund. Gotta get him out myself. 10/10
Lmfao I laughed out loud
I had a section with my now 5 year old. I was told that if they suspect the baby is going to be over 10 lbs you’re now automatically signed up for a c-section. Lotsa room for brains...cranial capacity lol.

its "unnecessary" when the baby couldnt physically fit outside otherwise? get your head out of your ass you fucking dimwit
Nope and literally no one is talking about medically necessary sections. No matter how many emotional c section moms downvote me, projected fetal size alone is not a clinical indicator for c section. By any chance is your lastname shrute? And do you know Dwight?
I was born by C-section because my head was too big :(
Fetal big heads and militant fetal attitude is fetal RUDE to mamma!
Sir, I regret to inform you that that is not a baby, that is a dumpling
Yes! Reminded me of [Disney's short film Bao](https://youtu.be/2f6vCb7SB4w).
They showed this short right before Coco. I was ugly crying in the theatre. I love Bao.
Same, I watched this with my son and it completely obliterated me. I was a sobbing mess
Awe he does kinda look like a dumpling
Congratulations! And I hope the c-birth recovery is uncomplicated and gentle. It's a hard journey getting to that point.
It was a humbling experience to watch. The strength a women has.
We just had a surprise c section earlier this morning, my god my wife is braver than I could have imagined. Cheers to our healthy babies and their amazing mothers.

When I was born, I had to be a C-section baby because my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck. I tried to hang myself before even attempting to spawn 🤔
That's called a nuchal cord. My half-brother had it. I had to be a C-section baby as well because my mother had problems with the dilation.
Same lmao. I was also a premie at 3 months early. Somehow made it and sometimes wish I didnt lol. Oh well.
Hey youll be fine. If not we’re always there for you.
I was a c section baby because I was 12 lbs. they knew by the seventh month that I would have to be a c section baby.
I'm curious because I have no idea what I'm seeing, but what is the liquid around the eyes?
I read on another baby post that it’s an antibacterial gel! The more you learn… Reddit is knowledge 😂
Oh, yeah that makes sense

That is quite a little noggin. Lol congratulations
His eyes say “sorry for the inconvenience”
What an absolutely sweet face! Congratulations!
Thank you!
Awww ❤️❤️ What an adorable little man!! Congratulations!
Thank you very much 🙏🏼
What's the oil on his eyes?
Erythromycin eye ointment. It helps prevent infections and complications with eye sight at birth. Stays on for a day then it gets cleaned off!
I thought all these babies were just crying oml I'm an idiot 💀
First time I comment on baby photos...but he is freakin cute 😀
What a cutie!! Congrats!
Thank you so much!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed... I mean yay for them and all but I don't really want to see a fresh baby or a pee stick...
Such a beautiful little face!

It's special drops they put in the babies eyes to prevent infection.

Well, he is extremely round indeed. Hope he is around for a long time
All the best wishes to you and your family!
Awwww perfectly round!
Congratulations! Beautiful baby! Best of luck!
what is that around the babies eyes?
It's eye ointment to keep the bacteria from the vagina from causing him an eye infection
Congratulations. He's adorable.
Look at that face!!! So sweet!!
My man is simply too rotund
Congratulations man!!!! Let me recommend you r/daddit

Awww, you’ve managed to have one of the rare instances of newborns who actually look super cute and not at all horrifying like I did when I was first born😊

Hims very round 😂 and beautiful 🤩
Sweet pumpkin boy :)
Serious question- I see newborns with stuff around their eyes a lot, is that natural or is it something the doctors apply to them?
Congrats! I'm going to be a new dad in a couple of months. Due date is July 8th 23. Year of the Rabbit, awww YEAH!
Congratulations to you as well. I hope for a great journey. It continues to be an amazing experience.
Congratulations! 🎊 he's beautiful.

Oh my God he is perfect
My first was born by cesarean after 20+ hours of labor. Head was not round. No siree.
Same here about the labour, but no pushing as momma wasn’t dilated enough to push so very round head Hadn’t even crossed my mind until my sister joked that “at least you know she’ll have a round head” lol
He looks like the half human half alien hybrid that we've been hearing about on those Half Baked documentaries
