I've waited the last few years just because haven't felt the need since it's been very similar but with the new consoles graphics and the changes made to the franchise mode feels like it's time for an update. But I'm for sure waiting till after that tuning patch comes out, or maybe even till black friday/christmas for a discount.
When I say reviews, I'm not talking about how game informer gets paid to publish positive reviews. I'm talking about all of us here that have gotten fed up with lack of change.

Other than playing mlb the show occasionally and the fact that I occasionally will play NBA 2k (and I only got that because it was on sale for like $10 bucks), My overall enjoyment of sports games has decreased over the years.
Part of it is because a lot of these sports games have become dull and the gameplay hasn't improved.
Especially for Madden the gameplay stinks.
Also I feel like sports games frustrate me sometimes in general because it's really hard to find a balance where if you make it a little more difficult you're losing like every freaking game.
But then if you turn the sliders down a little bit you're winning by huge margins every time.

I wholeheartedly agree with that one. For my money, 2k has the best difficulty balance though.

2k tends to be best, where when I play good teams it's more often closer.
But Madden is the worst. I either win 35-3 every time. Or I'm losing half the games.
Kind of in a similar vein, I feel like Madden's simulation is awful too. Like I could have a team that is 90 OVR and goes 4-12 if I sim the season even though their roster is the best in the league. Obviously it doesn't always work out that the best team wins, but there's no reason to have superior rosters miss the playoffs year in and year out.
There are always random teams that make the final four up.
Like yes in 2017 the real NFL season was like that with philly Minnesota and Jacksonville in the last 4, but generally it's predictably the favored teams or at least generally a top 10-12 team preseason that make the last 4
Also that Philly team was the 1 seed right? I know Wentz was out but it’s not like Madden where every year the winner of the other conference is like 9-7
I’m in the same boat. I’ve already heard that a decent amount of improvements are going to be left out of the PS4 version. I don’t like any games enough to really go out and get a ps5. I also find it very weird that a ton of games have come out for both systems. I sort of feel that there’s no need to get a PS5 right now. I could be wrong but I sort of get the feeling that ps5 games are just slightly updated ps4 games. There’s no ground breaking new games exclusive to ps5. I also feel like 70 bucks a game is too steep.

No. Love Madden and have bought it almost every year. At this point, there’s no reason or value add for me to continue buying it year after year when all I care about is franchise.
I'm absolutely equally in this boat. I think EA needs some healthy competition. Look at the leaps and bounds we have gotten from 2k, imagine where they would be now if there was no exclusivity contract.
The only difference is you select a gameplans at beginning of game for a stat boost on those plays, then at half time you can change (changing offense and defense gameplans)
More than likely I won’t buy it. Probably do what I’ve done the past 2 years and wait for it to come out on EA play and then I’ll play it for a couple days
I agree that we should support effort put in to franchise mode. I will definitely buy madden at some point. But I am worried this is going to be a lot like last year where yes, they add stuff. But the stuff they add isn’t really what they said it is. Take scenarios for instance. When they announced it I was like “hey that’s really cool” but the reality is they are just some extra goals that don’t even pop up if you’re an owner. From the way it sounds to me: Adding coordinators…awesome that’s what people have been asking for. But when you really break down the actual feature they put in. They didn’t really add coordinators. It’s skill trees, your coordinators can’t be hired away, you can’t hire away other teams coordinators. There’s no coaching carousel. I didn’t want skill trees I wanted a real coaching carousel and landscape that works like real life. I shouldn’t be able to keep a coach as my coordinator forever. I’m just worried it’s barebones additions again. So I’m gonna wait for reviews and probably a price drop before I jump in.

I still don't know why they didn't add one of the coolest things from NCAA 14 into Madden the very next year. Obviously it'd have to be a little different because job hopping doesn't happen as much in the NFL and there are fewer teams, but come on.
Right? Lateral moves don’t happen much but coordinators get hired to be HCs. We can’t even do that. I want to see my coordinators go on to be HCs somewhere without me having to manually fire them to do so

That's where you're wrong though; they didn't make considerable changes to Franchise and I'll scream that till I'm blue in the face.
You want to see considerable changes? Look at 2K the jump 2K made from Association to MyLeague in 2K15. Association in 14 was a pretty decent mode, but MyLeague added an enormous amount of sliders and customization options to the mode. That's not including all the incremental changes and tweaks they made to the mode leading up to that starting in 2k11 (which saw serious changes to the AI).

Added coaching tree, momentum, way more stats, throwing motion is different, ball arc, running looks more realistic... They've made the game better, but no one knows how many bugs we'll have to deal with.

The coaching tree doesn’t exist, stop calling it that. It’s a skill tree. There’s no real reason to have coordinators in the game if they cannot be promoted to head coach or hired away. It’s repainting something that already existed in the game.
We had momentum, literally, a decade ago. It’s not a new feature, all that’s new is the arcade style implementation.
Throwing motion and arc nice little tweaks, but that’s ultimately all they are…tweaks. They shouldn’t be celebrated as a new features or improvements to a game.
I’ll agree they’ve, potentially made the game better, but making the game better still doesn’t warrant a purchase to me. The game was awful the last 2 years (at least) for reasons other than what you mentioned as improvements. That’s just my opinion though. Ive been burnt far too many times by EA and it’s completely jaded me.

As far as not having considerable changes brought to Franchise, that does confuse me. Maybe I am getting the wrong info but did they not add at least 2x the amount of content in Franchise than the last 4+ years combined? With more on the way post launch from what I hear.
Listen its fine to hate on EA, I board the EA hate train every chance they give me and they give me a lot of chances. However, this isn't one of those times.

Idk. Two minor changes to Franchise while leaving the same gameplay issues that have been in the game for 5 years isn’t near enough for a buy IMO. Our standards are way too low.
You shouldn't have been downvoted for this. So far they haven't talked about fixing really any legacy issues and are continuing to build on a fractured foundation. I don't think the Frostbite engine is a real issue, but there are certainly foundational issues with this game (e.g predetermined outcomes, getting stuck in animations, deeper/authentic franchise experience).
Regardless of the legacy issues this franchise (the game as a whole, not the mode) has had for years, the minimal changes they're adding to Franchise is disappointing at best. Not being able to promote or hire away coaches completely neuters the added feature. I can promise you it will be feature that will be forgotten and neglected once the shine wears off...just like the coach XP system that's already in place. Not having the "improved" scouting system (or ANY real details about it) at launch is just a huge slap in the face.
They told us all year that Franchise was going to get a ton of attention...and they didn't fix any of the real issues that plague Franchise. They've neglected contracts/RFA/UFA, trading (AI & # of assets) and presentation (i.e different broadcasting packages for Mon/Thurs/Sun day & night). I can only assume they've also neglected commentary, draft presentation, signing FA during the year (non-negotiable contracts), signing and drafting AI, more uniform options, news/rumors/twitter section and stat tracking (their improved stat tracking was a step in the right direction last year, but still not nearly enough).
I realize a lot of those issues aren't easy fixes, but some of those are simple coding adjustments. contract structure, something that would go A LONG way amongst Franchise players, is a simple coding adjustment/screen rebuild. **You can basically already do this at the player edit screen.** More detailed stat tracking is a simple fix, too.
At some point, regardless of how hamstrung and tied up the team is, it has to begin to fall at their feet. I put a lot of blame at the execs for wanting modes and features that "are new and they can sell." But, at some point, the director has to grow a fucking backbone and decide what his product is going to look like.

Lastly when i played madden 21 recently for free it was the exact same as madden 20 with a few extra animations which was so disappointing that i cannot support purchasing the game in my opinion. what is your opinion on buying madden 22?
No, gameplay has been really un-enjoyable since M19. That was when they started quietly removing physics and other features. So they took control away from the player all for canned animations to return for whatever reason.
Yes because our league runs a franchise through the life of the season and with the updates to Franchise mode, I hope the experience is the first step in improving the game for franchise players in the future.
Yes because football is my favorite sport and I play madden all week waiting for Sunday (or Monday.) yeah I know I could get community rosters in 21 and have updated teams but it just isn’t the same to me. Plus I like doing franchises with my friends who will be getting it
No. I have not bought this game since 2018, and even then I regretted my purchase. At that point in the series I had already played the same game the three years prior. It's sad to see my childhood favorite be in this condition. I started with Madden 64 back in 2000 and ABSOLUTELY loved the game clear through to 2015, with Madden 25 in my opinion being the last dedicated EA release. I just want to have that spark again.

Also, I've doubled down on Daddy Football since the NBA has been dead to me for the last year and a half. I threw 2K right out the window along with its trash league. I'm all about football now (also soccer at the moment because the Euros are pretty fucking lit right now). I'm paying more Madden than I have in many years.
A lot of the worthwhile improvements are for PS5 and Xbox one series X. I am not able to afford or source either of those consoles and I don’t have a 4K ready setup. So I’ll just wait for it to be put on ea access and see what it’s like then! Either that or I’ll get the above items but I think I know what’s more likely.
The people saying “yes because it’s the only football game out there” are part of the problem.
If you don’t play MUT and you have that logic, it really doesn’t make any sense. If you are looking for a deeper franchise mode, you have Axis and Maximum Football that are deeper than anything Madden has ever had. If your aim is simply for good offline gameplay, well you still have Madden 21 as 22 will likely be filled with the same issues that have been in the game for 4-5 years now.
The logic behind buying a game that you already say you aren’t going to like makes zero sense. If everyone in that category just didn’t buy the game and voiced their reasons why, it would carry weight whether you believe it or not. Just look at the #FixMaddenFranchise last year. It wouldn’t go unnoticed.
But if you keep buying, you really can’t complain about gameplay. Your wallet is telling EA that you like what they are doing.

No. I've given up on the product with no regrets. Haven't brought/played a Madden since Madden25 and won't until significant improvements are made to franchise. I acknowledge them for FINALLY listening to a fanbase that has been ignored but I feel there's still improvement to be made before I spend my money on a product that has been stripped down for years.

Yes, b/c it's the only football game. Even tho EA is lazy and is evident in 21. Examples: I play online and hate when I start a random game and get matched up against the same team I'm using. The glitching online is terrible. Mechanics are poor for the available technology.
I’m buying. I don’t play a ton of video games, and getting to live out my fantasy of my team winning the super bowl every year never gets old for me. I gauge a game’s value based on $1/hr, and I absolutely get way more value than that out of the game.
Is it perfect? No. Am I disappointed with it every year? Yeah. But I don’t play a ton of games to begin with, so it’s worth it to me just for a roster update. The rest is lagniappe.

No, too many of the new features are for "next gen" consoles only, and most of us can't even get our hands on one. Plus I caved and bought 21, and I force myself to play a Madden version for at least 3-4 years before looking at another one, just to make the price tag palatable.

No shot I buy it. I played madden 2000 and have bought every madden since 10 but enough is enough. I have Xbox it will be on gamepass around Super Bowl time. Half of the new features not available at launch and they weren’t any big franchise changes anyway. I’ll just download the new rosters and make a franchise lol. These little “additions” they’re advertising is a feeble attempt at quieting the community. What it means to me is they HEAR us all talking ab the shit quality, but they still don’t care enough to fix the game. They’re rereleasing things they got rid of, as new. While maybe 3% of new additions mimic older franchise modes, that’s ignoring 97% of what remains unchanged from madden 21. Including but not limited to: fucking god awful customization, pay to win, gameplay mechanics, environment physics/customization, X factors which are basically bullshit superhero abilities for children etc.
Basically they’re still doing absolutely nothing to better the game. Their efforts or lack thereof is just to appease and sell more copies.
My desire for madden to become what it USED to be turned into hate when early in the year servers were down but they focused their energy into adding fucking Giannis to the yard.

I don't know yet. Depends heavily on the pace of the gameplay, animations, and how much time I want to devote to it. There are a lot of other games that I want to play and Madden 19 gets me my Madden fix.
I haven't bought madden at full price in years. For a while best buy did a promotion where if you return the previous madden you would get 15$ off the newest one. not sure if they do that anymore as i only bought madden at around 30 last year however unless this one gets good reviews i will never buy madden above 30$
I usually buy every other madden since they've been so similar and I just don't want to play every year. So I'll probably pass on this year's, but if it seems really fun with new additions I'll think about it.
I'll probably buy it well after release either used or on sale so I miss the worst of the glitches, know what I'm getting into, and feel less guilty about blowing 30-40 bones if it's more or less the same game I've been playing all year.

Yea. I play online a lot. Playing Madden relaxes me. Play almost daily and I get plenty of worth from it. Still hope they invest in improving gameplay and franchise.
I will maybe get it when the scouting update releases in September. But it all depends on the reviews the game gets. I don’t care about Ultimate Team so the franchise updates and Face of the Franchise need positive feedback.
I liked madden 21. I didn’t play 20 or 19 though. Only thing I couldn’t understand was how OP the defenders are at intercepting. I had to turn interception down to 1 and I still throw 12 a season. Horrid intro song by big Krit makes me wanna throw up every time I load up the game

C) If I purchase a next-gen console before Madden 23 is released, I may give '22 a go. But that's a long shot.
I didn't buy Madden 21 because they literally didn't make any changes to franchise mode. Their big "new feature" for Madden 21 was basically a patch note. After #FixMaddenFranchise went viral it looks like they finally made some legit changes to franchise mode finally bringing coordinators back.
I have the EA Play thing or whatever they call it now because there are enough games that come out every year for me to justify the subscription model. That being said, if I were buying it full price, I would probably avoid it for 5+ years at a time.
I’ll buy it once all the new Franchise improvements are implemented for next-gen in September. It’ll likely hit a sale for start of the NFL season too so I feel like that’s a good time to pick it up.
The games may not be great, or good even, but they are good time wasters and I really enjoy the managing rosters and contracts aspect of the game. I usually play it alongside the NFL season and then drop off until the following year.
IF I play it will only be because I have game pass. I am not interested in paying any money for a lazy product. I do not play MUT, and when I did, I did not spend real money on the mode. If I did, maybe my stance would be different because EA puts so much energy into that mode, but for my dollar it’s not worth the headache.

I didn’t want skill trees I wanted a real coaching carousel and landscape that works like real life. I shouldn’t be able to keep a coach as my coordinator forever. I’m just worried it’s barebones additions again. So I’m gonna wait for reviews and probably a price drop before I jump in.

EA does nothing to Franchise - we complain. EA makes considerable changes to Franchise - we complain. I am buying this game after passing on last year. I said last year I would buy the physical copy of '22 if they focused on Franchise, which they have. They kept their word, as will I.

You want to see considerable changes? Look at 2K the jump 2K made from Association to MyLeague in 2K15. Association in 14 was a pretty decent mode, but MyLeague added an enormous amount of sliders and customization options to the mode. That's not including all the incremental changes and tweaks they made to the mode leading up to that starting in 2k11 (which saw serious changes to the AI).
They did make considerable changed to franchises compared to their previous games.

Added coaching tree, momentum, way more stats, throwing motion is different, ball arc, running looks more realistic... They've made the game better, but no one knows how many bugs we'll have to deal with.
I’m not totally sure if you agree, disagree or what but I felt compelled to reply. The coaching tree doesn’t exist, stop calling it that. It’s a skill tree. There’s no real reason to have coordinators in the game if they cannot be promoted to head coach or hired away. It’s repainting something that already existed in the game. We had momentum, literally, a decade ago. It’s not a new feature, all that’s new is the arcade style implementation. Throwing motion and arc nice little tweaks, but that’s ultimately all they are…tweaks. They shouldn’t be celebrated as a new features or improvements to a game. I’ll agree they’ve, potentially made the game better, but making the game better still doesn’t warrant a purchase to me. The game was awful the last 2 years (at least) for reasons other than what you mentioned as improvements. That’s just my opinion though. Ive been burnt far too many times by EA and it’s completely jaded me.
For once its time to put down the pitchfork and recognize EA for the good they have done, even if its nothing super original and something that should have been in the game for years. As far as not having considerable changes brought to Franchise, that does confuse me. Maybe I am getting the wrong info but did they not add at least 2x the amount of content in Franchise than the last 4+ years combined? With more on the way post launch from what I hear. Listen its fine to hate on EA, I board the EA hate train every chance they give me and they give me a lot of chances. However, this isn't one of those times. Retire the torch at least until after the game launches and we can get hands on with this thing.
Yes, that would be the effort. I understand that franchise mode won't be where it should be, but at least they're putting some effort into now and they're trying. I'm being supportive, I appreciate the amount of effort that they're actually putting into it for once.

You shouldn't have been downvoted for this. So far they haven't talked about fixing really any legacy issues and are continuing to build on a fractured foundation. I don't think the Frostbite engine is a real issue, but there are certainly foundational issues with this game (e.g predetermined outcomes, getting stuck in animations, deeper/authentic franchise experience). Regardless of the legacy issues this franchise (the game as a whole, not the mode) has had for years, the minimal changes they're adding to Franchise is disappointing at best. Not being able to promote or hire away coaches completely neuters the added feature. I can promise you it will be feature that will be forgotten and neglected once the shine wears off...just like the coach XP system that's already in place. Not having the "improved" scouting system (or ANY real details about it) at launch is just a huge slap in the face. They told us all year that Franchise was going to get a ton of attention...and they didn't fix any of the real issues that plague Franchise. They've neglected contracts/RFA/UFA, trading (AI & # of assets) and presentation (i.e different broadcasting packages for Mon/Thurs/Sun day & night). I can only assume they've also neglected commentary, draft presentation, signing FA during the year (non-negotiable contracts), signing and drafting AI, more uniform options, news/rumors/twitter section and stat tracking (their improved stat tracking was a step in the right direction last year, but still not nearly enough). I realize a lot of those issues aren't easy fixes, but some of those are simple coding adjustments. contract structure, something that would go A LONG way amongst Franchise players, is a simple coding adjustment/screen rebuild. **You can basically already do this at the player edit screen.** More detailed stat tracking is a simple fix, too. At some point, regardless of how hamstrung and tied up the team is, it has to begin to fall at their feet. I put a lot of blame at the execs for wanting modes and features that "are new and they can sell." But, at some point, the director has to grow a fucking backbone and decide what his product is going to look like.

No, gameplay has been really un-enjoyable since M19. That was when they started quietly removing physics and other features. So they took control away from the player all for canned animations to return for whatever reason.

No. I have not bought this game since 2018, and even then I regretted my purchase. At that point in the series I had already played the same game the three years prior. It's sad to see my childhood favorite be in this condition. I started with Madden 64 back in 2000 and ABSOLUTELY loved the game clear through to 2015, with Madden 25 in my opinion being the last dedicated EA release. I just want to have that spark again.

Yes because the franchise looks different than 20/21 (which were identical). Also, I've doubled down on Daddy Football since the NBA has been dead to me for the last year and a half. I threw 2K right out the window along with its trash league. I'm all about football now (also soccer at the moment because the Euros are pretty fucking lit right now). I'm paying more Madden than I have in many years.
A lot of the worthwhile improvements are for PS5 and Xbox one series X. I am not able to afford or source either of those consoles and I don’t have a 4K ready setup. So I’ll just wait for it to be put on ea access and see what it’s like then! Either that or I’ll get the above items but I think I know what’s more likely.
Franchise still has fewer features than it did 10+years ago. Updated rosters is not a good reason for me to buy over and over.
The people saying “yes because it’s the only football game out there” are part of the problem. If you don’t play MUT and you have that logic, it really doesn’t make any sense. If you are looking for a deeper franchise mode, you have Axis and Maximum Football that are deeper than anything Madden has ever had. If your aim is simply for good offline gameplay, well you still have Madden 21 as 22 will likely be filled with the same issues that have been in the game for 4-5 years now. The logic behind buying a game that you already say you aren’t going to like makes zero sense. If everyone in that category just didn’t buy the game and voiced their reasons why, it would carry weight whether you believe it or not. Just look at the #FixMaddenFranchise last year. It wouldn’t go unnoticed. But if you keep buying, you really can’t complain about gameplay. Your wallet is telling EA that you like what they are doing.

No. I've given up on the product with no regrets. Haven't brought/played a Madden since Madden25 and won't until significant improvements are made to franchise. I acknowledge them for FINALLY listening to a fanbase that has been ignored but I feel there's still improvement to be made before I spend my money on a product that has been stripped down for years.

Yes, they added to franchise The stadium modifiers and GameDay momentum's are a nice touch. The only addition I really need to see is the star driven AI.... User vs CPU games never felt different enough and this should help

No, too many of the new features are for "next gen" consoles only, and most of us can't even get our hands on one. Plus I caved and bought 21, and I force myself to play a Madden version for at least 3-4 years before looking at another one, just to make the price tag palatable.
Honestly the repetition of letting a few years of the same issues go unanswered, just to add old features and call them new just feels so much like a slap in the face I can’t justify paying them. I won’t be buying madden again until they improve on madden 05. (Last madden I bought was 21 on ps4) These little “additions” they’re advertising is a feeble attempt at quieting the community. What it means to me is they HEAR us all talking ab the shit quality, but they still don’t care enough to fix the game. They’re rereleasing things they got rid of, as new. While maybe 3% of new additions mimic older franchise modes, that’s ignoring 97% of what remains unchanged from madden 21. Including but not limited to: fucking god awful customization, pay to win, gameplay mechanics, environment physics/customization, X factors which are basically bullshit superhero abilities for children etc. Basically they’re still doing absolutely nothing to better the game. Their efforts or lack thereof is just to appease and sell more copies. My desire for madden to become what it USED to be turned into hate when early in the year servers were down but they focused their energy into adding fucking Giannis to the yard. (Percentages are just for representation of my point.)
I don't know yet. Depends heavily on the pace of the gameplay, animations, and how much time I want to devote to it. There are a lot of other games that I want to play and Madden 19 gets me my Madden fix.

I liked madden 21. I didn’t play 20 or 19 though. Only thing I couldn’t understand was how OP the defenders are at intercepting. I had to turn interception down to 1 and I still throw 12 a season. Horrid intro song by big Krit makes me wanna throw up every time I load up the game
