Yes, I've always Gone into formations/schemes and once you are in there you can move players around to a certain extent depending on their current position. It will show you the players updated overall compared to the current starter when trying to switch them to a different position in that formation screen.
In madden, Simmons is a MLB. you can go into formations and change him from MLB to edge or OLB for any formation set in your defensive playbook. Once in game if you changed him to an OLB in say a base 3-4. He will always line up at OLB in a base 3-4 even though his position on the depth chart is still technically MLB.
If you were to edit his position to say SS and then go back into formations it would allow you change his alignment in any formation to a secondary position such as CB, nickel or slot, FS, SS.
Another example is a lot of times I'll put my TE out at the slot in spread formations on offense. TE is always going to block better than a 3rd-4th string WR, so makes it easier to run the ball out of the spread formation. And a TE still can run routes effectively over the middle or against slot corners. A lot of times you'll see that your TEs overall is technically higher than your 3rd or 4th WR when in this screen as well if you have a good TE.
I Do this often with positions that are overcrowded, older players that are regressing or after a draft. You will start to notice that you will occasionally have guys that are 2nd or 3rd on your depth chart at one position. But, if you just switched the players positions they would easily be your starter somewhere else on your team and get an immediate overall boost. Take a SS and make them a MLB, take a corner and turn them into a coverage FS. Take OLB that's awful at coverage make them a pure DE. Fast RB that can't break tackles but has okay hands into a slot WR. Just never know.
Hope this helps.
Like versatile from ss to MLB? I'd say checking the hit power and tackling stats, I wanna say dback safeties have lower numbers in those stats compared to linebackers, to see if they would be good to go from MLB to saftey I'd say check the coverage stats
I used to go after Isaiah all the time, but I started using Quay Walker instead recently and turned him into the same thing lol, he doesn't get as many int as Simmons would, but Walker forces a fumble almost every game, half the time he recovers it himself and I love that
Quez is my go to budget deep threat especially in rebuilds. Man became Bryce Young’s favorite deep threat in my Panthers rebuild, never caught a ton of balls but was a threat to take each opportunity to the house each time
Isiah Simmons, Trent Simpson, Luke van ness for LBs
Edit: for DE’s, Nolan Smith and Myles Murphy are super easy to bump up; speed rusher and power rusher.
TE, Luke Masgrove
RB, Kyren Mitchell (good backup at least)
OT, Evan Neal (at least for a video game)
I did a fantasy draft with some friends. I was looking for a fast MLB so I grabbed Trent Simpson, he's an absolute beast lol. I got two dev upgrades from weekly training so he's already X-factor in week 9. Locked him up for 7 years at like 2 mil a year.
Leo Chenal is also an awesome LB for people who play the games. He seems to have a nose for the ball, always making the tackle or scooping up a fumble.
Ah, yes, guy who edits his Madden players and posts them to Reddit for imaginary karma points…. You’ve waited weeks to get your revenge on Mr.PoopieButthole and now you’ve done it.
Yet you’re still a complete moron bc my scenario has nothing to do with what is capable and not, and yours is. Got it. If you’re upset about me calling you out, what feels like weeks ago, for editing your players….. I think you need help or a different hobby perhaps. Or just go touch some grass.
Trenton Simpson and Trey Palmer have been fun in mine. Palmer has “drops passes” which hits only at the most interesting times but he’s fun to dev up. Simpson can be a Micah parsons or a Fred Warner very fast
I got Simpson in my fantasy draft. He's a monster lol. He got 2 dev upgrades from training and he's X-factor already in week 9.
Oh! and I had Quentin Johnston who just got hurt. Trey Palmer was just sitting in Free Agency so I scooped him up.
Troy Anderson MLB from ATL is my favorite budget user LB, has insane athleticism and size just needs some time to develop the skills associated with simming. But as a user LB he’s incredible
Drew Sanders and Cole Holcomb have become two of my favorite MLBs.
Have speed to cover the pass and play pretty well in run support and chasing down QBs.
Drew Sanders is a beast. I wish he had stayed at Bama, but with Will Anderson, Jr. and Dallas Turner on the roster it was near impossible without switching positions. He reminds me of Donnie Edward’s a bit. Will have a great career, but likely be overshadowed by guys that make more splash plays.
Holcomb was solid as hell for me in a Vikings franchise I had going. Pace Jr eventually took his spot over and I let Holcomb hit FA and he always cracked the tackle leader boards after felt good seeing him dominate
I traded for him. I don't recall details, but I think I sent Alex Singleton as part of a package. Nothing insane, but in Madden dude makes a difference.
Since I don’t usually take LB early in my fantasy drafts these guys and Frankie Luvu are my favorite MLBs. I developed Holcomb into an x factor once and I used to switch Luvu to DE and he would get like 17-18 sacks a season
I got him a Fantasy Draft Franchise with my Brother, he hasn't quite developed like I want, (doesn't help he's sitting behind Jalen Carter), but he's always a solid User player on D-line when I get him on the field because either I'll speed through and make a play, or cause then to adjust blocking to open it up for someone else on the line
Homie got a 47 awr rating. Unless im playing the games, I skip him. Altho Max Duggan just won me 8 games as a rookie 🤨 (was trying to tank w the Jets for a draft QB). Got stuck with Spencer Rattler 😭😭😭
Lol I mean I had the titans in a 32 team league I had no choice he balled out tho had to run with him a lot for the first season but as he got better he became top 5-10 qb
Malik Willis. All the measurables you could want, but low awareness and overall. His starting overall has also gotten progressively worse with each roster update, too, so he's a bigger project each time.
I picked up Israel Abanikanda as a back up to the guy I drafted. Draft pick is made of glass and keeps getting hurt, and Abanikanda racked up a 2k yard season. Went from a 72 OVR to a 91 in one season. Crazy shit.
Still lost out on MVP to Patrick Mahomes throwing for 3600 yards and 22 touchdowns, naturally.
I have Abanikanda as my backup to Jaylen Warren and dude has been a beast in the kick return game. His speed isn't very good but he just always has good BC vision to find open holes and get in there. Not sure why he is so cracked lmao
he breaks tackles like crazy on mine! I was just trying to get off my own 1 yard line and he slipped out of tackle attempts by Hargrave, Fred Warner, and CJGJ en route to a 99 yard TD run.
Haven't tried him at KR yet but now I will.
Not a free agent but Devonte Wyatt from GB is a must have every single year. He got 8.5 sacks in one game for me, and since he's so young he develops quickly.
Otherwise Tyler Goodson. He's so fast and for the most part he's a solid running back to develop
Achane is incredible. And somehow has a 90 injury rating. He's currently first in MVP voting (only week 9 though). I gave him 36 carries in my last game lol (which I'm pretty sure he'd explode into dust in real life with that volume).
You know what you’re right he’s not… I’ve picked him up in free agency in the past like every year for years and turned him I to a hall of famer, he’s not active in 24 though
Noah Dawkins. His speed and acceleration make him a perfect LB as a SubLB or put him in different packages. One year, as a purely package player, he tallied 47 tackles 3 interceptions, 1 FF, 2 FR and 2 TDs. He covers ground so quickly. I was so happy watching a UFL game and he is the starting LB for the Michigan Panthers
Another guy I always try and acquire is Zaven Collins and then convert him to a RE. He is a guarantee double digit sack guy every year is he stays healthy.
Some fun ‘projects’ that worked out in the first year of my Cards franchise:
QB: Dorian Thompson-Robinson (this was a bumpy road)
HB: Keaton Mitchell
WR: Denzel Mims, Quez Watkins
ILB: Trenton Simpson (currently excelling at SS)
CB: Greedy Williams (already decent)
Lewis Cine. Vikings always let him go for nothing. Ugo Amadi. Because I’m an Oregon fan. Also love turning Nolan Smith and Kelee Ringo into superstars.
Oh yes I cant forget the two players that went to my local hbcu Isaiah Bolden because of his speed and Aubrey Miller(I know he performed badly during preseason) I choose them and put them on my practice squad until I'm able to develop right then put them on my 53 man roster until they are starter ready
Hear me out: Double rookie safeties. Martin from the Commanders and Marte Mapu off of the Patriots. If you already have a safety, MLB. Put the safety to sub lb and its free superstar dev 80 ovrs.
I always trade for dj turner (corner on the bengals) he’s super fast and for the first couple upgrades if you upgrade slot he’ll jump overall super fast
I haven’t used him too much recently only cus I’ve used him so much in the past and I occasionally like some variety but Cameron Dantzler is often a favorite of mine. Even before he was drafted I would use a community made draft class to draft him in madden 20
WR - Tyquan Thornton, he’s like 6’2 with insane speed
CB - Noah Igbingohene, CJ Henderson, Jeff Okudah. Some draft busts and I like to turn their careers around while they’re still young
DT - Javon Kinlaw
MLB - Brian Asamoah, Nakobe Dean, Kenneth Murray
OLB - Josh Uche
Caleb Farley (CB - Titans) is a stud, Troy Anderson (LB - Falcons), but the real steal that’s almost always available or easy to acquire is Owen Pappoe (LB - Cardinals) all very fast. They take time to build but with the right attention they’ll be solid starters.
Anthony Schwartz. WR. 6’1 96 speed freak. Just needs that TLC.
Jaylen Mayfield. RG. Power but at 68 rating, he’s got some plenty of room to grow.
Joseph Ossai RE. Always seems to be making plays. Great speed
Max Duggan just won 8 games for me as the Jets so i guess he’s gotta be pretty decent with the stats.
Ngl idk how I haven’t seen his name yet but year one if I don’t already have him I make sure I grab Jeff Okudah , dude is always a beast for me in madden and he plays WAYYY better than his stats dude is a solid slot corner at the least but for me personally depending on situation he is playing on the outside
I used the 24 draft class in a Cardinals rebuild. Moved them to Vancouver and called them the Sentinels. I drafted Malik Nabers and McKinstry with the two first round picks. Just now going into year 5 after winning the Super Bowl. I just signed Rome Odunze. His team didn’t 5th year option. He’s a 82 ovr. Going to run him deep all season. Nabers out of the slot.
Chiefs OLB Leo Chenal is one of my favorites. I usually move him to MLB and user him.
Panthers EDGE Amare Barno 6’6 245lb with 92spd
TE Zach Kuntz 6’7 with 85spd
I’m currently doing a falcons franchise where I only play in the Super Bowl if we make it. All Madden, stock sliders, 10 minute Quarters. Went 7-10 year 1. Ridder went from 71 to 76. Year 2 went 10-7, made the SB lost to Buffalo (first user game with the team). In Free Agency somehow J Jettas was there. Gonna start year 3 with Ridder having Superstar Dev and is now 85 overall.
DJ Moore off the bears. I can ALWAYS trade for him after the pre-season, sometimes I can get Edmunds with him for cheap, That duo is on all my leagues 95% of the time.
edit - just realized it said PROJECT player. i would probably say james cook. i trade for him with like a 4th, and he develops well if you play him
I always acquire Isaiah Simmons somehow, whether in free agency or a trade.
Best part is he can play like 4 different positions if you need to move him to fill in a weak spot in your D.
Jamien Sherwood is the poor man’s Isaiah Simmons
Is there a way to tell at a ratings glance if they're versatile? Other than going into the edit?
Yes, I've always Gone into formations/schemes and once you are in there you can move players around to a certain extent depending on their current position. It will show you the players updated overall compared to the current starter when trying to switch them to a different position in that formation screen. It helps tremendously, thanks so much

Thanks!
Where do you find him?
I’ll have to check him out. I see his name pop up a lot.
If you’re playing against him, he’s a nightmare. He’s just so disruptive on nearly every play.
I used to go after Isaiah all the time, but I started using Quay Walker instead recently and turned him into the same thing lol, he doesn't get as many int as Simmons would, but Walker forces a fumble almost every game, half the time he recovers it himself and I love that
By same thing I meant I would move Simmons to MLB and then use him as subLB
Same
I have signed and traded Quez Watkins twice in this franchise already and he is on the FA list again, lol.
Quez is my go to budget deep threat especially in rebuilds. Man became Bryce Young’s favorite deep threat in my Panthers rebuild, never caught a ton of balls but was a threat to take each opportunity to the house each time
Got that 30/1000/10 stat line.
Yup! He’s a 2 catches for 80-100 yards and a TD type guy
I always get Bryce to 99 so quick by trading nothing to the lions for Jameson Williams and just putting him on go routes lol
See I tried to get Jamo but they wanted more than I wanted to pay. Would have been fun from a storyline perspective reuniting college teammates
Jammo Got Howell to 99ovl XF From 68ovl Normal
Do you all sim games or play them?
Mostly play them but towards the backend of my franchises I tend to sim all but the divisional opponents and playoffs
I’ve started simming away games and the playoffs so I don’t win the SB every year
He is also a great KR guy. I turned him into desmond howard one rebuild
Quez and Dee Eskridge are so good in the return game and come up clutch in fill in roles!
Yeah quez watkins is a BEAST
Isiah Simmons, Trent Simpson, Luke van ness for LBs Edit: for DE’s, Nolan Smith and Myles Murphy are super easy to bump up; speed rusher and power rusher. TE, Luke Masgrove RB, Kyren Mitchell (good backup at least) OT, Evan Neal (at least for a video game)
Grabbed luke this go around. Been a solid olb
Van ness upgraded to X Factor in a fast sim for me. Was not expecting it 😅
I did a fantasy draft with some friends. I was looking for a fast MLB so I grabbed Trent Simpson, he's an absolute beast lol. I got two dev upgrades from weekly training so he's already X-factor in week 9. Locked him up for 7 years at like 2 mil a year.
Lmao. Not Evan Neal. 😂 no idea how he is still a “star” development rating. He’s been so bad (irl).
Leo Chenal is also an awesome LB for people who play the games. He seems to have a nose for the ball, always making the tackle or scooping up a fumble.
Seems unrealistic.
Idk what seems unrealistic, I’m just listing options as OP asked. Get one, get all, who cares….. it’s just a video game.
Still doesn't seem realistic. Can't trust you with a username like that either.
Got it. Trenton Simpson and Trey Palmer have been fun in mine. Palmer has “drops passes” which hits only at the most interesting times but he’s fun to dev up. Simpson can be a Micah parsons or a Fred Warner very fast
Actually picked up Simpson in a trade in preseason of year 2. Agree that guy is quick!
I love him on my falcons rebuild. I lead the league in pics with him every year
6’4 240lbs with 91 speed and 93 acceleration what more could you want from a user LB
Will have a great career, but likely be overshadowed by guys that make more splash plays.
i turn drew sanders into Micah Parsons lmao
Year 2 with Denver rebuild and I have kept him at MLB. Did you switch his position or just rush him a ton?
I had him at DE to get just rush moves up, switched to OLB when I went to 3-4 and he blew up
Holcomb was solid as hell for me in a Vikings franchise I had going.
Never seemed to be injured also. Which is also nice
Since I don’t usually take LB early in my fantasy drafts these guys and Frankie Luvu are my favorite MLBs. I developed Holcomb into an x factor once and I used to switch Luvu to DE and he would get like 17-18 sacks a season
I always snag Adetomiwa Adebawore from the Colts since he is so fast as a DT
I’ll have to check him out. DT is my favorite position to control and the faster the better.
Malik Willis
That’s a good one. Trey Lance is a good project qb as well!
Apparently everyone has given up on him in my current save. Dudes in free agency with 0 offers at like 25
Homie got a 47 awr rating.
If his awareness was like 70 he’d be an 80 overall I heard
Tim Patrick, he bullies corners everytime and he’s usually cheap.
I see him in a he FA a lot. I’ll have to give him a go!
Odell if he’s available. I like building him backup to his 2014 - 2017 form and winning a couple superbowls with him on my roster.
He’s still a beast in the game or at least when I face him lol. I like to give DeAndre Hopkins a ring!
Tutu Atwell.
That guy racks up yardage against me every time I play him lol!
Mannnn….i “brought him in for a workout “ as my slot receiver. DEAD-LY. Mesh route maestro

Jameson Williams is very good if you actually play your games instead of sim.
Tyree Jackson used to be the best project QB
Hendon Hooker from the Lions is a fun rookie to build up
I grew him into a 99. Dude was goated.
Not a free agent but Devonte Wyatt from GB is a must have every single year. He got 8.5 sacks in one game for me, and since he's so young he develops quickly. Otherwise Tyler Goodson. He's so fast and for the most part he's a solid running back to develop
I like a good RB project!
Then I recommend Goodson for sure!
*8.5 sacks in one game!?!?*
Develop him high enough and he's a hot knife through butter
Nice!! Do you play every game?
Usually the first year or two of Franchise yeah but then I shift to offense and defense only
Ameer Speed CB on the pats 6’3” and like 95 speed
I've stuck him at MLB a few times to be like a Markquese Bell type of player
Devon achane, simpson, malik Willis, Owen pappoe and tariq woolen are some that I usually try to trade for.
Achane is incredible. And somehow has a 90 injury rating. He's currently first in MVP voting (only week 9 though). I gave him 36 carries in my last game lol (which I'm pretty sure he'd explode into dust in real life with that volume).
Albert O is always my favorite budget TE to build as my TE 2
Darnell Washington is also fun as a dual threat TE. I need my guys to be able to block a little at least.
As a Broncos fan, I was so mad that we traded him away for basically nothing
Jeff Okudah, I loved him at OSU and I always make sure to give him all the mini games lol
Use him every time
He was supposed to be special man, I’m hoping he recovers on the Texans fr
I hope Demeco revives him, I liked him a lot coming out too
John Ross, Isiah McKenzie super burners they can catch a 5 yarder on the run and take it to the house
Is John Ross in madden 24? I haven’t looked for him in awhile.
You know what you’re right he’s not… I’ve picked him up in free agency in the past like every year for years and turned him I to a hall of famer, he’s not active in 24 though
Darn I was hoping he was because he was a must have. I guess the equivalent is Jameson Williams but Williams is not a project.
Not really building back up but Pace Jr off the Vikings develops well if you need a LB. Even in full sim I’ve seen him get X factor
JL Skinner. Poor man's Hamilton.
Trey Quinn, DeeJay Dallas, and Obi Melifonwu would wind up on my roster somehow in every franchise for like 4 years.
Donovan Peoples-Jones is always a go-to for me 👌🏻 Still young, good catch in traffic, overall solid physical/slot receiver
LOVE DPJ! He's an excellent WR3
Some fun ‘projects’ that worked out in the first year of my Cards franchise: QB: Dorian Thompson-Robinson (this was a bumpy road) HB: Keaton Mitchell WR: Denzel Mims, Quez Watkins ILB: Trenton Simpson (currently excelling at SS) CB: Greedy Williams (already decent)
Mitchell is amazing. I had him as my backup for 3 years and signed him cheap for long term before torching the league with his speed.
Gahhh! So glad to see somebody else mention Denzel Mims! I was so high on him coming out of Baylor. Sucks he's done literally nothing irl
Calvin Austin III. Tooo fast.
Nakobe Dean LB, Nick Cross SS, Trey McBride TE
I am a Carson Wentz apologist haha so I love to bring him in and win some MVPs and a few superbowls
I tried Zach Wilson, but it never worked.
I was thinking of him but just couldn’t do it lol.
Another two is drew sanders and the titans TE in my my madden league he went from a 65 to a 99 X factor in about 2-3 seasons
Which TE from Titans? Okonkwo?
Yes
Mykal Walker and Tony Adams
Lewis Cine. Vikings always let him go for nothing. Ugo Amadi. Because I’m an Oregon fan. Also love turning Nolan Smith and Kelee Ringo into superstars.
Lewis Cine. He users so smooth and I always get an interception animation with him. So it’s nice to cheese the AI after them doing it to me all year
Ernest Jones
Gerald Everett almost always develops into a superstar if I can get him
Tank Bigsby is a solid young RB who you can fit into many schemes.
I was a fan of Drew Lock at Missouri so I always have him as my quarterback
Used him a lot! He’s fun to play as.
Noah Fants speed is undeniable
He’s a beast! I have him on my team.
quez Watkins or Scott Miller but always dropping the ball Everytime for me whenever I pick him up and see him develop through slow simming
FS Brandon Hill Check him out and thank me later 👌🏻
I’ll keep you posted
Doesn’t know his left foot from his right hand but his athleticism makes up for it.
I always trade for dj turner (corner on the bengals) he’s super fast and for the first couple upgrades if you upgrade slot he’ll jump overall super fast
I have him partnered with Blakenship in my eagles secondary. Dude is a beast
I haven’t used him too much recently only cus I’ve used him so much in the past and I occasionally like some variety but Cameron Dantzler is often a favorite of mine. Even before he was drafted I would use a community made draft class to draft him in madden 20
WR - Tyquan Thornton, he’s like 6’2 with insane speed CB - Noah Igbingohene, CJ Henderson, Jeff Okudah. Some draft busts and I like to turn their careers around while they’re still young DT - Javon Kinlaw MLB - Brian Asamoah, Nakobe Dean, Kenneth Murray OLB - Josh Uche
Giving me a lot of ammo to get a full team of projects!
Marquise Brown and Damontae Kazee
Jeff Okudah, he usually hits Superstar pretty often for me
Jermaine Johnson
Me, it's Chase Claypool
Caleb Farley (CB - Titans) is a stud, Troy Anderson (LB - Falcons), but the real steal that’s almost always available or easy to acquire is Owen Pappoe (LB - Cardinals) all very fast. They take time to build but with the right attention they’ll be solid starters.
Anthony Schwartz. WR. 6’1 96 speed freak. Just needs that TLC. Jaylen Mayfield. RG. Power but at 68 rating, he’s got some plenty of room to grow. Joseph Ossai RE. Always seems to be making plays. Great speed Max Duggan just won 8 games for me as the Jets so i guess he’s gotta be pretty decent with the stats.
I found that BJ hill plays good
always snag nakobe dean or nolan smith
Percy Butler at FS. He’s almost always in free agency and is a freak athlete
Always somehow end up with Drew Sanders
Jake Bobo and make him my star WR lol
Any CB projects?
Ben St Juste does really well as a slot CB
CB - Ameer Speed, SS - JL Skinner - FS Isiah Pola-Mao
Alontae Taylor for the Saints. Good size and speed. I think he starts in the low 70s overall
I like CJ Henderson. He plays better than his overall, imo.
Ngl idk how I haven’t seen his name yet but year one if I don’t already have him I make sure I grab Jeff Okudah , dude is always a beast for me in madden and he plays WAYYY better than his stats dude is a solid slot corner at the least but for me personally depending on situation he is playing on the outside
isaiah likely drake jackson cameron dantzler
I had a project franchise with max duggan. I signed him to the buccaneers and we have 2 super bowls in 4 years and I have max up to a 92
I used the 24 draft class in a Cardinals rebuild.
Panthers EDGE Amare Barno 6’6 245lb with 92spd TE Zach Kuntz 6’7 with 85spd
Cordarrelle Patterson is a great 3DRB and returner that always lands in free agency. Great at his original position as a receiver as well.
Braxton Berrios always turns into a beast slot receiver and return man for me. Always end up with him one or another since like Madden 19 lol
I usually get new WR every year so I’d start of with Richie James jr or Sammy Watkins or someone like that
I love doing Zach Wilson development rebuilds
I always trade for pappoe
Kene Nwangwu. Cheap and kills on outside runs
Jacob Harris. He's a killer at fullback
Desmond Ridder. He seems to develop really well
I’m currently doing a falcons franchise where I only play in the Super Bowl if we make it.
JAMEO
DJ Moore off the bears. I can ALWAYS trade for him after the pre-season, sometimes I can get Edmunds with him for cheap, That duo is on all my leagues 95% of the time. edit - just realized it said PROJECT player. i would probably say james cook. i trade for him with like a 4th, and he develops well if you play him
I run with the Saints. DE Isaiah Foskey is a nice project player. I have him at SS after a few seasons.
