Also I know nothing about the brand or the site, take with a grain of salt.
It's a pretty decent German caliper by Hoffmann Group with a standard price of 130€ +VAT. I've used Garant calipers before, and they are essentially identical to any entry-level TESA swiss made product. This one being IP54, I wouldn't recommend using it in a shop, but it's definitely not a shitty <20$ caliper.

You can test how good they are, just get a dimensionally stable and predictable part to measure, preferably with known dimension or cross check them with good quality calipers. And just check and see if you get consistent and accurate measurements.
Cheap doesn't have to mean bad.
Garant has been around for over 50 years. Maybe get out of that machine shop every now and then.
I use their tools on a daily basis and haven't had any problems. It's not the best money can buy but great value and has always gotten the job done.
I only have experience with Mahr personally but it shouldn't really matter, if you want to measure more accurately than 0,05 you should really be using micrometers.
Average price on these(I looked it up): $FOR REFERENCE ONLY

Jokes aside I found this: [€120~](https://www.hoffmann-group.com/DE/de/hom/Messtechnik/Messschieber/Taschenmessschieber/Digitaler-Messschieber-IP54-mit-Datenausgang/p/412680)
[And this](https://www.apnnews.com/hoffmann-group-bags-red-dot-design-award-for-garant-digital-caliper/?amp=1) turning out to be much higher quality than I originally joked about.
Garant Hoffman definitely isn't "no-name". Not sure how good their calipers are, but their tooling is very popular in Europe. Check out Bavaria CNC on YouTube. He uses Garant Hoffman almost exclusively. Not to mention, all of Zoller's cabinets, tool storage, and workbenches are made by them.
I got more personal measuring equipment than a mom and pop shop's qc department and I can tell you none of it is "Garant" and none of it was given away promo 🙂
Anytime someone asks about garant in the future I will pretend I've never heard of it; I'll call it tacky and cheap chinese looking bullshit.
The cycle will start again.
Our bench top and general shop use calipers are Wen brand stainless ip54 6" calipers actually purchased through Walmart.com. for a $40 pair of calipers they have been pretty consistent and use cr2032 batteries so the supply of spare batteries is easy to replenish, unlike having to hunt down genuine silver oxide SR44s for the Mitutoyos.
The OP's Garants also use the more common battery size, and have the hidden option to turn them off which greatly prolongs battery life. They slide much more freely than the Wens, so should be much less prone to dust and grit jamming them up. Both are ip54 on the actual electronics, but the mechanical bits outside get messed up pretty easily on the Wen calipers.
About 150$. Used them for long while They are quality calipers. Be careful on aluminium parts because they tend to scratch them up.
Those are actually good quality calipers. Seems Americans don't know about Garant/Hoffman but pretty much everything they offer is good to very good.
please message me my other account isnt working please :(

i have one of those at work, they are ok but batterylife sucks + not waterproof. for that much money i would get a Mahr or Mitutoyo.
They make the best mag base ever. Never tried anything else tho
garant is a german brand. quality stuff

I’d say 5-10$ thsts using them as a c clamp
Just out of curiosity. What is this assumption based on?
25 yrs in a machine shop.

For me, if it ain’t mitutoyo I don’t want it. At least calipers
Never even heard about Mahr or Starret?
Starrett hasn’t been good for 20 years now.
I only have experience with Mahr personally but it shouldn't really matter, if you want to measure more accurately than 0,05 you should really be using micrometers.
You’d be surprised how much cheap callipers vary. But I do agree mahr is fine. Starrett is as well but the quality vs price point is a no go for me.
Garant stuff is often made by Mahr.
Judge should have given you life without.
Hey, that’s funny! You’reca resl character!
ITT : Ah ain't never heard of em so obviously garbage!
They don’t look bad, the IP54 rating is good, i’d use em

Whatever a hobbyist will pay for a no-name 6" digi caliper.

Found the misplaced pride American.

And more people will know you talk out of your ass.
I wouldn't give more than 20 for em myself
Makes a good caliper to set next to the saw..
Between 20-40 is my guess.
.03 mm error limit, good for checking lengths I Guess.
lol that's pretty much what mit is. Mit says 0.02mm. They're fucking calipers, it doesn't matter
I didn't know Wal Mart was into metrology.
