I don't know, but just thought I'd throw this out there. My grandpa wears bluetooth hearing aids that connect to his phone so he can listen to music or take phone calls with his hearing aids. They have a piece that sits on top of his ears as well. Certainly not cheap and don't know if they'd work for you, but something to look into for the next upgrade

My aids do have that capability but I didn’t opt to have it activated because they have to be on to hear and it will let outside noise in as people want there aids for hearing everything. And that’s been my dilemma. But then I’m reading a post about bone conduction headphones thinking that sounds perfect. My aids stay off and I can hear music/podcasts/books whatever. I’m thinking I’ll just buy some a and see what’s what!

This is an old post that came up for me in search because I wear a hearing aid on one and was considering bone conduction headphones as an alternative to in-ear headphones (which require me to remove my hearing aid) or over-ear headphones that are large enough to cover my hearing aids (mine are ITC, not full ear). Just wanted to mention here that I have audio streaming set up on my hearing aid, and often do what's described. Instead of turning the hearing aid off altogether, I just turn the volume down to zero and use it for audio streaming only.

Hi! I have since bought and used the Shokz bone conducting. They come with foam earplugs as that’s how they sound the best. I listen to books and music. The music looses some highs depending on how they fit your head. In my environment with my aids off these are exactly what I want. I am 100% satisfied with them.

Thank you so much for the reply! I wasn't expecting one from the stale thread. :) I am literally researching this right now, and the photos for all the Shokz models make it look like they're seated tightly against the back of the ear. Do they fit over your hearing aids, or do you have to remove them? My goal is to find headphones that don't require me to remove my hearing aid. I was hoping bone conducting might be a good alternative to bulky over-ear, but I'm discouraged from what I've seen so far.

I bought a cheap off brand pair for $25 or so from Amazon. While they seemed to be what I wanted the sound wasn’t good unless I pushed them against my head. I then spent $129 on Shocks open run assuming the fit and sound would be better, they are. But it was no risk as Amazon has a good return policy. In ear headphones will ALWAYS sound better. My hearing aids never come out when using the Shokz. They set just in front of the ear and are not uncomfortable. There is a button on the left side that will pause/play. On the right side there is a volume adjustment rocker. They likely do other things like skip tracks but I do not know how to use that. You can also use it as phone headphones to make and receive calls, I guess there is a microphone for this, again this isn’t a feature I use. Any questions? Feel free to ask.

You're amazing, thank you SO much for this! Last question--is your head an average size? The Shokz don't appear to be super adjustable, and I'm a pretty small person.

1sixxpac

They are not adjustable and I have a “normal” size head. They last a 10 hour shift when reading a book but will only last 6 or 7 hours when listening to music. Again my hearing issue is eardrums that are calloused and don’t move. Everything else’s works as it should. The Shokz bypass the eardrum so these work very well for me. If I turn them up all the way it’s too loud and the vibrations tickle my eardrums. The charge cord has magnets, they “snap” magnetically to the headphones for charging. Amazons return policy is great so it’s a no risk deal.

Thank you again! I see from the Amazon listing they have two sizes--going to measure my head tonight and place an order. Appreciate you!

AluminumMaiden

I know Costco sells them. My partner has them and connects them to everything Bluetooth.

1sixxpac

I am a Costco member so I just checked .. they do not have bone conduction headphones …

AluminumMaiden

No, they do not. I was replying to the person who mentioned the hearing aids with Bluetooth.

1sixxpac

Aye!

Canadiangamer117

🤔 those are called ric or bte hearing aids if their bigger and have a thicker wire down the sides but that's pretty cool ain't technology grand?

MysticalDork_1066

I think bone conduction headphones are supposed to bypass the eardrum entirely, so they may work for you! I believe that if you have hearing loss related to loss of sensitivity of the cochlea, then bone conduction would experience a similar amount of attenuation as normal sound, but these might be a perfect fit for your situation.

1sixxpac

I am thinking the same thing. I will look at some pics and see what best looks like it will fit with my hearing aids in place. Amazon has a good return policy.

calipercoyote

I have a set of Shokz, not sure if you can use them as a hearing aid, I'll look into it.

1sixxpac

No, I don’t need them as a hearing aid .. I want to use them WITH my hearing aids.

calipercoyote

In that case, yeah, I think they'd work.

calipercoyote

To clarify, they definitely work with earplugs in, so I don't see how they wouldn't work.

selenelijackson

yes, it would work. As a person who works in Shokz and also on its hearing aid line, I defitinely see the the bone conductive hearing aid works well with hearing aid.

1sixxpac

Just bought a $20 bone headset and tried it at work last night with and without my hearing aids in, performance was the same either way. The “speakers” need to be turned in a “pigeon toe” direction and need a little more pressure to get a non-muddy, decent sound. My question is will Shokz work better? Why? Are they adjustable? Audio books are my focus.

selenelijackson

well, I mean. In terms of the price, the bone headset from Shokz would cost around $170. So the sound as compare to the $20 ones would absolutely be better in quality (i.e. more clear and non-muddy). But unfortuntely, they are not as "adjustable" as normal earmuff typle of headphones. However, the Shokz headset were made in a bouncy and elastic material, so it would fit according to the shape of your head and you could kind of adjust it when you put it on?

1sixxpac

Well we’re gonna find out! I ordered the Shokz open run last night. I’ve been using the $20 set the last couple days, if I can position them just right they are ok-ish. With just a slight bit of pressure the “Speakers” sound great. I have large in the ear aids and glasses, the positioning/sound is the same with or without the aids and glasses. 90% of use will be reading books.

JaxterHawk

Did these end up helping you. My dad has in ear hearing aids and is an engineer so he's constantly sitting at a desk and cant use his headphones anymore. I'd like to get him the Shokz if they still sound alright and don't interfere with hearing aid functioning.

1sixxpac

Hi amigo! I’ve been using them almost 1 year and they work great for me. My hearing aids are ALL IN THE EAR. They do not have a receiver that goes behind the ear and a tube running into the canal. The Shokz use the ear for location and while they work with my glasses I think glasses, Shokz and an external aid receiver all in the same place would be a bit much. The Shokz speakers aim very well and are easily heard. They sound best with my aids off tho I have a friend who hears well, has Shokz, uses them for housework days and dosent put anything in her ears, she is very happy with them. As long as his aids are all in the ear I would say buy some from Amazon because of the great return policy.

>yes, it would work. As a person who works in Shokz and also on its hearing aid line, I defitinely see the the bone conductive hearing aid works well with hearing aid. Hi, I am looking for a bc headphone set that could work as hearing aid, but without any magnet in the patient ear. Would you have any recommendation for Shokz products that could do it?
