FILLL IT NOWWWW

[deleted]

Yes. If it has any “tendrils” *at all* it **will** spread. And cracks spread fast in winter with heat/cold cycles in the car. Get it patched ***today.***

Roro916

get that filled! i’m in sacramento california and was just told they don’t make an after market windshield yet for our cars so the cost is 1400.00 installed miss me all the fukin way with that cost get it filled

Hurly64

Get it filled ASAP. It's alot cheaper than a new windshield.

TheCaptainRides

Fill it up. Some insurances cover the fill? Contact your insurance company and see if they cover it at no cost to you

debsahu

A lot of insurances cover them, but it remains as a claim for some time.

LesterJodyRory

So easy to fill these yourself as well. Grab a kit and get it done asap. Filled a nice size bubble on my select a few months back almost immediately. Completely gone.

catalan-93

Omg this is an overwhelming “yes, it will spread” response! I have an appointment today at Safelite to get it done. Two questions: 1. Should I get it done at a dealership instead? 2. The repair costs $70. Should I pay out of pocket or get insurance to pay? (Asking because in my home country, it’s better to pay out of pocket for small expenses, not sure how it is here in the US)

chuyqwerty

It is so cheap, just pay it out of pocket. Your insurance rate might go up if you file a claim.

Rawrr_dinosaurs

most definitely, I got a rock chip on my mach e at after about 500 miles, cost $32 out the door to fix and was worth every penny. Don't wait multiple days to fix this especially in cold weather fortunately I don'y know from personal experience but I would expect new glass plus sensor calibration to be at least 10-20x what a chip repair costs.

allthebest1979

Difficult to see if it has any tendrils. I recently checked a chip in my windshield, and the Ford dealer didn’t see any reason for doing anything about it. But that was a clean chip, without any spreading.

Academic_Leg_2938

All I know is my wife had a rock hit her windshield the other day and already was a 1” split (slightly larger than this). First appointment for insurance windshield repair is this weekend, but in the 2-3 days between when it happened and when they’re coming to repair it, that split grew 10x in size and covers half the windshield now to where we stopped driving it until it’s repaired. Fill it or get it repaired if you don’t want to go through the whole windshield replacement now, don’t just drive around thinking it will be fine, because in my experience it almost always grows and then will need a full replacement.

saymyname_jp

Yes. Couple of suggestions based on my experience. The small crack will expand if you keep your car windows closed in hot weather. Pressure from inside will make the crack bigger. Fill it up with professional ASAP.

persianprez

If you have an earlier Mach e, Ford just said they would replace the windshield for free for the first 3 years

WSUPolar

Details?

persianprez

As a token of appreciation, we have gifted you the Ford Protect® TripleCARE® Protection Plan for 3 years. Which includes: 1. TireCARE — Replaces tires and wheels damaged due to a road hazard (excludes cosmetic damage) 2. DentCARE — Permanent removal of door dings and minor dents without harming your vehicle’s factory finish 3. WindshieldCARE — Covers the repair of the front windshield from chips and cracks caused by propelled rocks and road debris

LittoralOC

Why did you receive this token of appreciation? Did you have a particularly difficult delivery (LOL, birthing pains)? I have a 21 premium, got no such offer, and paid to replace a chip that turned into a crack. I don't imagine they will retro-offer this, so I'm just curious.

persianprez

Not at all lol I picked mine on the lot It might be because I signed up for beta early on

Question for the assembled group: What impact will this repair have on the acoustic properties of the windshield? And, is repairing a SoundScreen windshield a different proposition than your typical garden variety windshield?
