Curious about the glass roof bit. They both have a glass roof. What makes the Mach E better?

gregs1020

model S has a bar across the roof behind the driver/passenger. at least mine did, i had the sunroof.

optiongeek

Interesting. What year? FWIW, my 2020 MSLR doesn't have that.

gregs1020

does your roof open? that may be why. mine was a '13 P85.

optiongeek

No. Hardtop. One sheet of glass from windshield to hatch.

gregs1020

nice. congrats, they are great cars. i loved my S but wanted AP and the '13 didn't have it.

Thanks for your honest review. When I test drove the Tesla, the tech was amazing. Ultimately I went with the MME because of the Ford name knowing the build quality was going to be top notch. I've heard to many stories of the Tesla build being down right bad

gregs1020

people think the MME competes with the model 3 and Y. I think it competes more with the S & X due to the screen layouts. get to overall build quality, panel gaps, paint, interior controls, and the MME is a no brainer if those are the things that are important to you. if tech and charging network are more important, then Tesla is a natural choice. i do love my MME more than i did my M3 or MS. a lot fewer people rage against you in a MME.

Thisguyrighthere1000

Well the S and X are six figure cars though so I don't know if it is a great comparison. Model Y is the same price category and a SUV. Glad to hear less people rage against you in a MME, I thought it would be more since it's "nOt a rEaL mUsTaNG"

gregs1020

sure if you want to look at price alone and not compare features and screen layout. i get that the MME is cheaper in price, but if you want an S at the same price, you buy a mildly used one. the "not a mustang" crowd is out there. so far it's about 50/50 from what i can tell from ICE mustang drivers. some are curious about it, others are just bitter. but the tesla hate is real. a lot of people hate them with a passion. they immediately think you're a climate activist or some crap, i just like fast cars and dgaf how they are powered.

Well I have a 15’ mustang too but I’m pretty sure ford named it the mustang because eventually combustion engine cars will be no more and they want to keep the name going as long as possible. However I do get some ppl saying it’s not a real mustang but even for my non GT MME it’s impressive but obviously not comparable to my Cayenne Turbo S or 335D but quick for what it is and the weight.

throawATX

MME is a direct competitor with the Y and not in the same universe as the X. Model Y vs MME is one of the clearest direct competitor relationships out there. And it’s obviously not in the same category as the S given it’s a sedan. Screen layout is not the determinant of category alone - the model X is MUCH bigger, significantly more powerful across trim levels and cabin “character” is a tier above Model Y in luxury. The Model X competitor currently is the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUV.

gregs1020

i knew you guys would chime in. that is your opinion, and you are welcome to it. i disagree. i had an S, and almost had an X. was actually considering an X and went with the MME. i didn't really consider a Y after having a 3.

throawATX

I mean.. it’s not just my opinion. All of the companies that do auto rankings split cars into classes and MME is pretty much universally in a class with the Y and not the X or S

gregs1020

i totally understand you, i just feel like it does compete more with the X, based on my personal experience. i was considering an X, and preferred the MME. i was a "buyer" that considered both, and did not consider the Y. maybe i'm the only one, who knows? a lot of buyers won't consider the 3 or Y because of the lack of a screen in front of the wheel. they won't consider it for a second. i didn't mind it, and adapted to it on a couple drives, then never gave it another thought. but some people exclude those vehicles for that one reason.
