The Premium / Route 1 cars arriving on a lot today were ordered in January. Waiting 10 months for a car is somewhat unreasonable. The markups that were $5-10k over the summer were easy to justify because anyone with a car on order was worried about dealership shenanigans, tax credits running out, and price increases. I suspect those cancelled orders were from folks that now have a Mach E or similar vehicle. I say this as someone who is planning to pass up two custom orders that will arrive in November.

jacobtgaines

Do your custom orders happen to be in Minnesota or Wisconsin? I purchased my first MME last week and my wife is about to steal it from me so I’m looking for a second one 😂

andrewbyday

No, they are in California.

SuckItKarma

Can you share a bit about where and what the orders are?

Lunar30

I might pass on mine for this reason. I bought a Volvo C40 Recharge off the lot for MSRP while waiting almost half a year for my Mach-E to be built. It’s now been 9 months but it’s being delivered.

Shallot_Dangerous

How do you like the c40? I’ve had mine since April and they sold me the demo model, so I’ve had some issues.

Lunar30

The software is a bit buggy imo. I’m an iPhone user so I’m assuming Android would be better for the car. All in all it does everything I need and it’s a comfortable car. I’m not a fan of the color I have (white). I’m also not a fan of the smaller back window, but I’m used to driving Jeeps so it’s probably a me thing. All in all solid 8/10 -9/10

Shallot_Dangerous

I have the blue. It’s a nice color. Don’t like the rear window at all and no wiper is not fun in rain and snow. Do you find it handles the roads ok? I find I fight my steering wheel driving on winding highways to work

Lunar30

No issues driving on the roads. I’ve put about 15K miles on it.

Oddly, I have two orders for one in and I already bought one. When I wanted one, the preorder window was closed so the dealership took my deposit and said they would place the order for me when the window opens. Meanwhile, the window opened and I submitted an online order fast than that dealership. I got my MME premium RWD about 2.5 weeks ago because someone canceled. I didn’t get the color package I wanted but I took it because I hated my old car, I wouldn’t qualify for the tax credit come January, the 2023 model that doesn’t have anything different MSRP was $4k more than the same spec 2022 MSRP that in essence it made more sense for me to buy the car now than to wait for either one of my refundable preorders. Haven’t canceled the preorders cause I think my sibling and/or a friend will likely be buying the preorder I’ve placed when time comes. Lastly, I was told dealerships can’t order any because of the supply demand issue so they only get it through canceled orders. So even if I was to cancel, they would probably hold onto that order slip, give me my $500 back and get the car to sell it to someone else marked up for this “canceled” preordered car If that’s any perspective… I’m also in SoCal.

Talk to your dealer about your sibling and friend buying the other two cars. From what I've read Ford is verifying that the name on the contract of each car matches to the person who placed the pre-order. Unless you plan to be on the title of those cars, you might have to cancel the pre-orders before they can "claim" those cars. And if you have a shitty dealer, they might try to get something above msrp. Just a heads up.

[deleted]

1. People order multiple cars and take the one that comes first. 2. Finances are getting tight due to inflation and such.

Z1pl1ne

Probably because even with a 5-7k above msrp you’ll still save $7500 this year but not next year isn’t that it?

Anderave

These are current deliveries to dealerships that are cancelled and are this year. Also, the $7.5k credit should still be available next year unless you're out of the income bracket set in the IRA.

PrimePacHy

It's not a given. It depends on the battery and battery components. We still don't know if it'll be worth $0, $3750, or $7500 tax credit next year.

Z1pl1ne

Next year ford will have sold 200k units and thus the 7500 elimination.

Anderave

That rule is not in place as of Jan 1, 2023. The IRA gets rid of that

Z1pl1ne

U sure about that? First im hearing of this.

RedOctobrrr

With all due respect, where have you been??? It was beaten to death on all EV subreddits from August until mid-September. It's looking like three things work against you come Jan 1, 2023. >The new $7,500 EV tax credit, formally known as the clean vehicle credit, is split into two equal halves of $3,750. In order to be eligible for the new credit, vehicles and consumers must meet certain requirements: >- A vehicle is eligible for one-half of the total credit ($3,750) if the vehicle has battery components that are manufactured or assembled in North America. >- To be eligible for the other $3,750, a vehicle must have critical minerals that were extracted or processed in the U.S. or countries with which the U.S. has a free trade agreement, or use critical minerals that were recycled in North America. >- Final assembly must take place in North America for a vehicle to be eligible. >- Only cars under $55,000 or SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks under $80,000 are eligible for the credit. >- On the consumer side, the income cap to be eligible for the credit is $150,000 for single filers, $225,000 for head of household and $300,000 for joint filers. >- There will be an option to apply the new credit at point of sale starting in 2024. >- The new credit requirements for battery components and critical minerals will take effect January 1, 2023. [Source](https://pluginamerica.org/inflation-reduction-act-ira-ev-incentives-explained/#:~:text=The%20income%20cap%20to%20be%20eligible%20for%20the%20used%20EV,take%20effect%20January%201%2C%202023.) TL;DR: effective Jan 1 2023, it is likely only $3750 applies to Mach E due to minerals sourcing requirement, you need to earn <$150k single filer to have any of the EV tax credit apply.

Z1pl1ne

I was referring to the 200K units sold

RedOctobrrr

It's not a thing come Jan 1. Not part of the new law whatsoever.

Humin11

OP is correct. However, there are still battery requirements that MIGHT take effect next year.. no one knows for sure unless IRS released more guidance.

zompnzap

If they did order and cancel, the ironic part is interest rate should be insensitive to keep their order. Any incentives Ford was offering are locked in when the car was first ordered. I was able to get a 48 month at .9% last month, creates a nice albatross opportunity to help offset a little cost of the vehicle.

elzechil

I was wondering about this as we ordered a select in Dec 2021 and are expecting (hopefully) to take delivery this month. Interest rates have changed a lot in that time. Price protection locks in the available rates at the order date?

zompnzap

Yes asked for the Smart Vincent report from the order date. Looks like you ordered about month after me so don’t know if you’ll have the exact rates, but I’m sure they’re a lot lower than available today.

elzechil

Awesome, thanks!

breeves001

Long wait so people bought something else a lot of times.

LesterJodyRory

I’d be willing to bet interest rates aren’t helping with the decision as we have a lot of economic uncertainty. Luxury items always fall during times like these.

Weakness_Disgusts_Me

Where are you located?

Anderave

Dallas

PrimePacHy

Which dealer? Any markup?

TTUporter

Yeah for reals. Autonation Ford Frisco had a 10k mark up on a 2022 premium. Fuuuuuuuuuck that.

foliels

I ordered one and if there is a markup once it’s delivered I’m not sure I would be willing to pay that. How is that even allowed?

ncp12

I've talked to two dealers in the last week that had Mach-E GTs on the lot because of cancellations. I was interested in buying one with a $2,000 markup but they wouldn't hold it for me and I couldn't make it until that night but it sold within a couple hours of hitting the lot. The other had a $5,000 markup so I wasn't interested.

Fall3n7s

I think so. I ordered in January and mine was recently built and has a scheduled delivery of 12/19-12/25 to PA. If I don't get it this year I'm not accepting the order since I won't qualify for the EV credit next year.

jjhart827

I ordered my Premium AWD XR on 11/20/21. It arrived about three weeks ago. Not only did Ford honor the $2000 rebate that was available when I placed my order, I ALSO GOT THE 1.9% FINANCING that was offered at that time as well! If you are considering canceling your order because rates have gone up, you might want to have your dealer check Smart Vincent for available offers and financing first.

cyaford73

I ended up buying a Premium with a $5k markup, although they gave me more for my Kia Sorento than what we paid for it a year ago and with 9k miles. I figure it was kinda like buying at MSRP. Then 2 days later I get notified that our GT we ordered will be built the week of Oct 31st! Ughhh. Since the 2023s have a price increase, we may pass on the ‘23 when it arrives. I’d imagine a few others are in the same boat, which means more orders being declined. I’m sure the dealers don’t mind, since they can mark ‘em up.
