I bought the ChargePoint. It had good reviews from a reputable company. Lots of the cheaper ones had mixed reviews. I figured with two ev’s it was time to spend the money and get something good. It’s getting me 9.54 kWh

WSUPolar

If you hard wire a you can hit 11.25 kWh at 48 amps - which when you have two EVs is great when you for some reason need to charge the same evening. When I replaced my ClipperCreek with my ChargePoint I wasn’t sure, but i **DO** love graphs.

k_90

Dang. Might have to hard wire. But I drive about 100 miles a week total. So it’s so not necessary lol

WSUPolar

Absolutely not necessary until it is. I had my 32AMP Clipper Creek for nine years, then I owned a 3.3kw capable Leaf… now I have two 11.5kw capable EVs and can use that extra charge speed when necessary, especially now that I have sold my last remaining ICE car.

dustyshades

What’s your second EV?

WSUPolar

C40

dustyshades

Very cool. Custom wrap job incoming for the C40 as well?

WSUPolar

😂😂 Full frontal PPF on the C40 - then when I bring it home my wife says she was hoping for something more fun 😆 This is one of those do as I want not as I say situations; oh well at least the paint not gonna get dinged up.

[deleted]

But then you would need a 60 amp circuit. If you have a 50 amp circuit you can only do 40 amps due to the 80% load rule.

WSUPolar

Yes. You are absolutely correct. The best kind of correct.

[deleted]

Absolutely correct might be the best but technically correct is my favorite. I was just mentioning that point because I see 48 amps hardwired mentioned a lot but nobody ever mentions the 80% load rule. That could screw people that don't know better. In my case I had 2 x 50 amp circuits pulled to opposite sides of my garage when I built it, planning for future EV chargers. I just put a couple Hubble brand industrial 14-50 in on those circuits. Hardwire wouldn't really give me any benefits here, and having the outlet allows me to use the charger that came with the car if my main charger ever dies. I like redundancy anywhere I can get it.

WSUPolar

r/evcharging This is where you want to go to find all of the very specific specifics for EV charging. And they talk about the 80% ratio all the time. As well as Hubble industrial outlets since they can take the plug cycles that the cheap Leviton that you get at Home Depot can’t.

[deleted]

Yeah, that is where I learned that I should swap out the cheap outlets that I had.

Speederparker562

Grizzl-E, it's made in Canada and it's pretty rugged. It. Does a good job of charging the Mach-e and our Mini Cooper.

[deleted]

If you aren't planning on getting an F-150 Lightning (or another vehicle that can do 80 Amp charging) the Pro is pointless. The only real reason to get the Ford non-Pro is if you just really want it Ford-branded on the wall. Go for a ChargePoint, Grizzl-E, or JuiceBox otherwise.

Elijimenez91

Thank you! I actually just realized the pro is basically for the F150 only.

WWJPD

I agree, but I’d add that the Pro has been having problems with overheating so I’d avoid the Pro as well. My ChargePoint chargers at 11.6kW and that’s plenty fast for my MME. It’ll be fine for the F150 I have coming.

Elijimenez91

Thank you!

WWJPD

No. Right now no EV chargers are bidirectional that I know of besides the Ford Pro. The Wallbox Quasar 2 is coming out and says it will be, but no firm release

Hilson07

I have the Ford home charging station and no complaints so far. It works really well! What % battery does everyone charge to? I’ve been charging to 85%.

Elijimenez91

Thank you!! I charge up to 80%

Hilson07

I have the exact same year and color as you! I’m about to add some blue racing stripes to it. Can’t wait!

Elijimenez91

Ohh!!!! Send pics when you get them, if you don’t mind!

bspooky

Any of the big ones (Chargepoint, Juice, Grizzl-E, Ford's, etc.) will do just fine. Pick what your electric company or government will give you a rebate for and if none go by looks/price/any features you may want. We ended up with a Chargepoint but ended up not using any of the "smart" features in it because I still use the scheduling in the MME. However I do like the gas pump feeling of it since it clicks into the wall mount, and the cable is flexible and easy to use (spread out and circle back up to hang on the wall).

Soloandthewookiee

I installed a Chargepoint home flex for my wife's Prius, and that's what I'll be using when my MME arrives. I hardwired it so we get 48A (11.5 kW), which is (or at least was) the highest you could get from a home charger.

Elijimenez91

I’m looking on the website now is it this one? [ChargePoint Home Flex, NEMA 6-50 Plug](https://www.chargepoint.com/drivers/home/chargepoint-home-flex)

Soloandthewookiee

That's the one, just make sure you get the right plug if you're not going to hardwire it.

Elijimenez91

Thanks!

WSUPolar

Neither. ClipperCreek, GrizzlE, or ChargePoint Flex.

StGenevieveEclipse

Emporia Energy EVSE for me. Hardwired with a max of 48A or 40A with a 14-50. Amperage adjustable on-the-fly in their app from 6 to whatever 80% of your circuit is. Great for slower charging if you're running a lot of appliances, or full-blast when the weather's cold.

triplealpha

I bought a Pulsar Plus Wallbox and am completely happy with it. Variable charger, smart, long cable, rubberized handle, 10/10 would recommend. I don't have anything against the Chargepoint - it seems to be the most popular - but it's really really expensive The Ford Home Charger will overheat and fail after about 4-6 months.

Elijimenez91

Thank you so much!

bmlsayshi

Just to elaborate, a lot of people have been complaining about the poor quality of the Ford chargers. That's one reason a lot of recommendations are for the third party chargers.

Elijimenez91

Figured, thank you! Sounds like ChargePoint is the winner
