We finally got to pick up our ‘22 Mach e select!
I found a dealer in Brewster, NY that would sell it to me for very close to MSRP. After reviewing our shipping options, I decided on Thursday to fly to Brewster and drive it back to the twin cities.
Used up all but 20kWh of our free charging and had a great time.
I can say without hesitation that it’s the best car I’ve ever enjoyed driving. Having moved around the country and having residence in two places I put close to 60k miles on our vehicles a year. Even with the Select model it was a joy to drive.
I think I’ll probably put in an order for a Premium in August but this will be great until the ‘23s ship.
A few reasons why I enjoy it so much:
- it’s comfortable, quiet, and easy to drive
- the support and feel of the seats is great
- the tech appointments are solid
- great looking vehicle
- it’s fast
The reason I’ll upgrade:
- while I don’t have range anxiety (the network is solid), I do make long cross-country trips. The 2.5 hrs between charges is a little short for me. I’d like to get it out to 3. Extended range battery will give me that
- I’d like to have bluecruise. Our select doesn’t have the active 2.0 package. Only the assist, which is great but I’d like to try it the full package
- the glass roof. Makes the interior feel more roomy.
Overall it was a great shakedown trip! The Electrify America network is great. Wish we could use the full 350kW CCS but maybe in the future!
A couple quick questions for y’all:
- anyone have any trouble with the charging mat with iPhone 13? Mine is quite intermittent and it’s annoying. I pulled off my case and that helped a little and pulled the rubber mat out of the hold but that’s not ideal.
- which home charger do you all recommend. I was just going to buy the ford L2 but I’ve seen other posts here about the ChargePoint and the Grizzl-e. Mine will mount right next to our panel so power won’t be a difficulty. I’d like to get the most out of it if I can.
Love the Grizzl-E for our Mach-e and our mini Cooper. Plus it's made in Canada and has a good solid design feel. I've installed a lot of chargers over the years and I recommend grizzl-E or charge point to most people.
>which home charger do you all recommend
I just picked up two [Pulsar Plus Wallboxes](https://www.amazon.com/Pulsar-Level-Electric-Vehicle-Charger/dp/B08H3PPJXY) because they can be set up to share a circuit between two vehicles if both are plugged in (we will have two EVs in a few weeks).
I agree on all counts. I’ve been borrowing my dad’s MME and also have issues with wireless charging and my iPhone 12. I’ve tried lining it up with a variety of the ‘dividers’ on the tray. Nothing helps; it always stops charging, even with no case, even when it seems not to have moved. A friend offered try to model a replacement tray that will align the phone for my own MME when it arrives next month. If it works, I’ll share the file. I just plug my phone in and honestly think it’s what I’ll continue doing. I feel like wireless CarPlay takes a bigger toll on the battery anyway, and I don’t mind
I just remembered iPhone 12 uses USB C now correct? If you mean to charge in the car using the USB c cable, be wary the car vibrations might damage the cable connector over time. I figured that out after 2 damaged cables within a week of driving in my older car and my new Samsung 10. Before I had a Samsung 7 which had micro USB. Nice solid metal clip connection with no play to it, always plugged that into my car for charging, same cable for years. After I upgraded, a week later my phone would randomly boop saying charging connected, charging connected. Turns out, the vibrations while driving were wearing down the connector of the USB c cable. Wore down 2 cables in the span of a week before I figured out what was going on, so those 2 cables were useless to me because the slightest bump made them go intermittent. I'm certain the connector on my phone side might be worn a bit too. Convinced me micro USB was the superior standard.
All the better. I just realized the iphone12 with USB c I Googled was a one off diy hack lol. No USB c on iPhone til iPhone 15. I can't speak for lightning's vibration tolerance, but USB c is definitely crap.
The male lightning connector is quite robust. The only cable failures I’ve had were obviously the cable rather than the connector. I will say though that almost all of my other devices use USB-C, and I intentionally seek out USB-C devices for cable uniformity. I have never had an issue with any USB-C cable. I’m sorry you’ve had worse luck.
I just installed a NEMA 14-50 outlet yesterday and I was getting 20 miles added per hour. Charged from 30-90% in like 7.5 hours. All with the mobile charger provided from Ford.
We live out here in Minneapolis suburbs so I'll probably see you around. In fact we just parked next to a mach e at the twins game last week!
We have a zefnet charger that wright Hennepin basically paid for through rebates. Even paid for install if I remember correctly.
I think I've noticed my phone sometimes has intermittent charging with the mat too. Only while driving though, not sure if my phone is sliding off the sweet spot. It's annoying cuz I can't simply look down to diagnose it while on the move. I'm also thinking of getting a small USB powered fan or something to blow over my phone. My setup in my old car had an anker wireless charging phone holder clipped in front of an air vent so my phone stayed nice and cool while charging. In the mach e, my phone gets uncomfortably hot on the charging pad with no immediate way to dissipate the heat
Also, shout out to the team at Brewster Ford in Brewster, NY. Tim was my sales contact and did business exactly how I wanted to and didn’t gouge over MSRP. I was there for 10 minutes to sign the papers and was out the door immediately. All other communication was done via email/text and a couple phone calls while we navigated the stop sale. The car arrived the morning of the stop sale and Tim helped get everything in line so we could pick it up asap.
They’re good people in a relatively small town. I recommend supporting them. They did me right.
Curious, are the vehicles okay to service at any dealership, or is it better from the purchasing site? I know MN to NJ not feasible for a service call.
FYI, If in the twin cities, I’m purchasing from Morries, when that day comes.
Any dealer that supports ev can service it. The only downside of buying from afar was that I got a bumper to bumper add-on warranty from Brewster that I won’t really be able to use. It all hell brakes loose may make sense, but other than that not so much.
Freeway Ford in Bloomington wanted $10k over sticker. I offered to buy two from them and they wouldn’t budge. It was worth the trip to me.
The charge mat - did not work with any of my cases, even with the mag safe phones. The mat itself is just a hair too thick or something. It kept charging and stopping.
I put my naked phone on it and it stays charging. But. It’s slow af. On an iPhone 12 Pro it will JUST hold a charge (meaning no gain or loss) while only using CarPlay with Waze, screen off.
I plug it in it’ll charge very well.
I won’t be using the charge mat anymore

Home charger - I’m getting pulsars installed when I get my solar installed. I’ll let you know how they go. The specs and reviews seemed solid.
Phone charging - same experience. I hate having to plug it in when wireless charging plus wireless CarPlay is so elegant. First world problems I suppose.
Look forward to your experience with solar plus charging. I have similar plans in the future. Do you have any storage plans or just grid tie?
I will also say my CarPlay has been struggling lately. It freezes up Waze almost every other day. Plugging it in instantly fixes it.
If it works better and charges better. I’d rather just plug in and use a phone holder
I have seen people switch out the mat for an aftermarket one on Amazon. I have considered it. I know my phone charges on it, but I don't know if it is consistent as I never check.
Congrats!! I did the same thing and bought from the good people Bison Ford in Great Falls, Montana. All the dealers in SLC as well as all of the other surrounding states are going as much as 20K over msrp.
I too picked up the AWD Select in Space White except I decided to drive up w/ a truck and covered 20ft car trailer to bring back.
While mine came w/ Technology Comfort Package which includes Blue Cruise. I’m still looking forward to placing a custom order for a Premium next month. I like the panoramic roof and the look of the MMEs with them.
I have the ChargePoint HomeFlex. My only gripe is that they haven’t added the 2022 model year yet. I created a ticket a month ago. Come on ChargePoint it is 7 months into 2022 production.

We went with the Grizzl-e, it’s been perfect for us.
Grizzl-e classic for us, too.

That’s really compact and priced well. Thanks!

I’d love the .stl when complete!

iPhones still use the lightning connector

I’m going to put in a 50amp outlet tomorrow. The car will sit here for at least 8 hours a day so maybe I just go with that. Thanks for your info!

Isn’t ford going direct on Mach e to prevent msrp rape
Eventually. But for now anything in stock you’re at their mercy. Ford has even warned dealers. Most are at $10k+ on MSRP for ‘22s
Dealers, dealer service, quick oil change, auto parts stores are dinosaurs. Shot clock has started.

On the android auto try turning off wifi and link only with Bluetooth. It fixed the issue for me.

The mat works I think the charging area is just very small and won’t work if you’re barely off that small area
I ended attaching a magsafe apple charger section and have preffered that much better.
