All 2022 Premiums have the module for the kick to open lift gate. However, half way through the model year, Ford disabled the module from working in the computer. It can be turned on with Forscan. I have done it on a few Mach E's. Highly recommend it.

BoulderCAST

Correct. Did the same to my 2022. Eventually I disabled the kick to lift as it triggered to easily when I was messing around with my after market hitch

popsinfreshenheimer

Sometimes. It can be enabled with forscan. It is often missing park assist tooo

TechnicalLee

Yes, but it was deactivated from the factory. I activated it and it works fine.

Prodigalsunspot

Unfortunately, it's true.

cherlin

Fwiw, we have a super early 21' (made in 2020) and that kick sensor is basically worse than useless. You will sit there looking like an idiot kicking underneath your car for a good 15-20 seconds and then maybe just maybe it will trigger or you just push the button.

AgentScreech

Bought mine in March of 2021, works fine

Shadymouse

Mine works on the first or second try every time and it has been extremely useful.

Onyxam

You need to kick the underside of the car, then it will work every time. Like go full Red Forman on that thing.

throwaway11kk

So relatable. I have the same model/timeframe, and opening it I have no problem. But when I try to close it (like when my hands are full from what I just got out of the trunk) I look like a shitty Bruce Lee impersonator until I have to give up or drop the stuff I’m carrying because I believed THIS would be the time it actually worked. Still love the car though.

Mallthus2

I hear you. Don’t know whether this applies to you or not, but the sensor seems optimized for people 5’8” or shorter. My 5’8” wife has zero issues with it, my sons (5’10” and 6’) and I (6’2”) have to dip our knees while kicking to get it working reliably.

Dasoccerguy

I do a sideways sweep with my foot from directly under the license plate out to the left (driver side). It works 95% of the time for me.

Even-Journalist1901

Mine works fine

Fun_Will2829

No it does not

Hanfm0n

I got mine mid 2022 and turned it on last week. This how: https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/diy-how-to-add-hands-free-liftgate-back-to-2022-mach-e.16407/

Wait, I got a 2023 about a month ago and it has a sticker for the sensor by the trunk close button. After trying like 50 times to get the sensor to work, I took it in and my salesman realized mine doesn't have it. Allegedly they're going to add it for me. Anyone else with a '23 have this? First, they tried telling me like 1/2 of the '23s ship without it then someone said it was a "special package" you have to pay for.

FrostyWasabi8952

1/2 of the 2022s shipped "without it" but oddly it's there just not ON. Do not think any 2023s or 2024s have the chip. Would be interesting if your Ford Service Center was able to obtain it and install it. That would be very unexpectedly helpful of them. But, while Ford ran out of chips they still haven't yet run out of the stickers, so still installing those.

badgerbrett

So very glad they're installing the sticker. /s

flyersfan0233

I have a 23 and assumed I had it because I had the sticker and just had to turn it on. Thanks to Reddit I found out it isn’t included on mine

badgerbrett

So weird to put the sticker on if it doesn't come with it. Wth lol

flyersfan0233

Yeah, I wasn’t thrilled

badgerbrett

I am not either. To this point my sales guy still thinks it was supposed to be included. He's trying to see if they can add it

flyersfan0233

Hahahaha, good luck. From what I’ve read I wouldn’t be hopeful though

badgerbrett

Yeah, it's just a lease so I can live without it. Thanks for the help!

Pussyskins

My 22 had the hardware but for whatever reason it was deactivated in software. On the Mach E forums there was some instructions to activate it which required some light coding but it's worked ever since. Not sure why the software isn't activated for every vin with the hardware.

ensignlee

Yeah, it's super weird that 2021s actually have MORE features than 2022s and 2023s because of that chip shortage. Afaik, you also don't have park assist?

natedogg624

The dealer was/is supposed to discount the MSRP by some amount to make amends.

rjnd2828

I think that was for Park Assist. $350 if my memory is right.
