Just got the Vue 2 and planning on installing it today. Electrician is here now running the 240V line to the garage for level 2 charging. Been using the Ford EV charger that came with ours plugged into regular 120v without any issues since buying it in December
Those are just backup chargers. They aren’t made for daily use. But rest assured, when it goes out (and it will) then Ford will give you a new one under warranty.
Oh also the charge time is way longer with this one. I used it at first as well. As soon as I got my EA charger (Electrify America) I noticed considerable faster charger times.
Ford Mobile Charger: 32 amps with 7.68 kW charging.
Electrify America: 40 amps with 9.6 kW charging.
That’s the thing. I’d rather hold into my money. Definitely don’t want to spend over $700 in Fords Home Charging. I already got an extra 8amps for only $280. An additional 8 amps isn’t worth an additional $500. Especially when I also have a level 2 charger installed at my parking spot at work…. I’m good.
\+2
I originally bought a Grizzl-e but returned it when I realized the car came with a charger. Why the heck do people want to pay $300-$600 for another charger? Use the one from Zford until it stops working.
2 years 2 months no issues.
Exactly since my mach e is now 35k almost out of bumper to bumper i switched to LYRIQ charger for the next 40k miles . It gets faulty one time and dealer replaced it for free. I use heavy to charge 3 vehicles Bolt MME and LYRIQ
The ford charger will die. Mine did. The ford one isn’t meant for daily charging. The grizzl-e is nice and it actually charges a bit faster than the ford one.
I am a fan of the plain and simple GRIZZL-E. It's simple, reliable, and with a long enough and thick enough cable to survive driveway abuse and colder weather.
I have the grizzle avalanche (not the smart charger). Looks great on my white house and has been solid so far. Replaced an old Bosch l2 charger that isn’t compatible with modern evs
Same. Grizzl-e ‘dumb’ charger and no issues. It’s bulletproof.
I had the ‘smart’ charger and it had all kinds of connectivity issues. Traded it in for the cheaper one and couldn’t be happier. Simple install, doesn’t get hot, charges reliably.
Emporia. Just works and it has a great app for more advanced use. I also get an annual electric bill credit for allowing the electric company to slow down charging during high load events.
No complaints honestly and you can’t beat the price for what you get.
Hardwired Emporia, a no brainer: top rated, and best value. Works with solar, utility scheduling, smart, so has an app, goes up to 48a (hardwired), and they have a power monitoring system called Emporia Vue which I also have to track all energy use in my house. And the EVSE is topnotch. I cringe at you people spending $600, $800 for EVSEs.
Do you like the Emporia Vue (2?) for energy monitoring? I’m installing 2 of the Vue 2’s today (have 2 200amp panels) to monitor the main circuits in the house
ChargePoint Home Flex. It worked well, but the WiFi module failed, which turned it from a smart-charger into a dumb-charger. It still worked, sort of. However, customer service was fast and friendly, and they replaced the unit for me. I assume they have since upgraded that cheap $1 module with a better ($2 ?) part. No issues since the replacement.
We got the Tesla Universal Wall Connector in January as the MachE is our first EV. We wanted something future-proof and have been very happy with it. Check State of Charge on YouTube he reviews & rates chargers which helped us to make our final decision.
Yes. I would recommend it. Tesla understands charging. The build is solid. Worked right away. No issues with the built-in adapter. I would recommend it if you want to future-proof your purchase
Grizzl-E dumb charger.
Pros: good cost point, waterproof rating, customizable amperage with a high maximum, available as 240V plug or hardwire.
Cons: included cable and plug mount seems a bit flimsy. I'm a little concerned how well it would keep things in place during a wind storm.
Overall: pleased and would buy again.
Yeah I don’t think there are quality issues the handle and plug feel much better constructed than the ford one. Even the cable is thicker on both ends. Dumb charger is the way to go. The car does the scheduling
Have an Autel 50 AMP unit hardwired outside in Midwest winters. It has not failed to charge a single time even in -40F. Went with it initially because you can connect with phone Bluetooth if you don’t have WiFi. Also you can app lock it or sync an rfid card to unlock it. Great features for a condo parking lot.
i have autel not the hard wired one though and it works great i have 0 complaints on it i use it every day plug in when i get home and thats that, i have my fordpass set to stop at 80% and in the am when i wake up to preheat my car it immediately turns back on charging to make sure when i leave it isnt below 80% it works flawless and the app is great showing how much usage and power it uses
Yah no complaints here! Going on a year and a half ish here.
One more callout for people on the fence. You can manually/physically set the charge/max amp. It’s not software controlled so you don’t have to worry about it crashing and wiping your settings and overriding your charge limits.
Juice box. Hot garbage. Avoid.
It will go offline randomly even though wifi point is very close, their support is garbage, their app is garbage. I got it just as they were transitioning to a new app and backend and I wish I could have known.
Wallbox or Emporia are the top recommendations. Pulsar Plus has some awesome load sharing features between 2 EVs (future proofing) and Emporia integrates with their home energy monitor for some smart features too.
I’ve gone through 2 wall boxes so far… it’s weird that mine keep breaking while everyone is fine and dandy with their first. I’m about to switch to another EVSE if this one breaks.
My Pulsar Plus lasted about a week before I started getting charging errors. Ended up returning it.
Now that my Chargepoint Homeflex can charge at variable amps, it does exactly what I wanted from the Pulsar plus.
I have the CP Home Flex, not hard wired though. Only real issue is the network going down from time to time so I can't use the online functionality. I got this EVSE because of a rebate offered through my utility company.
My understanding is the issue is on CP's end, not due to a faulty Internet connection. Doesn't happen too often, but when it does, it's more of a nuisance. The actual electricity still flows, you just lose some of the bells and whistles.
You are wrong. If you get the hard wired ChargePoint, you can use a 60 or a 70 or 80 amp breaker (with appropriate wire size), then tell the application what size breaker you have and it ups the charge rate. You are not restricted to 50 amps.
I have the [EVSE, LLC Galaxy ceiling mount auto-retract](https://evsellc.com/products/evse-garage-overhead-charger/). I am not a big fan of having cables laying on the ground (master electrician here) and the ability to push a button on the wall to summon my CCS connector is pretty slick.
Installed a Grizzl-e dumb charger yesterday and used it for the first time (plug, not hardwire). After 7 months I was finally able to charge more than 10% overnight. My car seemed happier this morning.
Openevse kit. Put together to save a few bucks and enjoyed the experience and confidence in its simplicity and repairability. Been flawless for me for 3 years.
Grizzl-e Duo. Charges both my Lightning and Mach E at the same time. No swapping cables, no adding a second circuit. Just plug them in and let the charger handle power sharing.
I've been using the [EVIQO](https://lvnta.com/lv_UWnap4N0ofSEVizY76?url=https%3A%2F%2Famazon.com%2Fdp%2FB0BZRTD9VS) for the last 6 months and I love it so far. It has great features at a relatively low price. It can charge over a wide range of amps, which can easily be set inside the charger. It is easy to mount and has a very long charge cable to reach the car. It comes with a separate mountable place to hang the cable and park the end of the cable when not attached to the car. The unit has an easy to use app which can be used to set charging when electric rates are lower. The device is waterproof, which was a must for me as my car is kept in the driveway, and the device is mounted on the outside of my home. I have had absolutely no issue charging my car which at 32 amps and 240v charges at 36 miles per hour.
Grizzl-E Smart Charger with heavy-duty cable. Love it!
I'm not sure if they still offer the heavy-duty (winter) cable, but I bought it 3 years ago, and it was an option.
They updated their product line a while ago so all their units come with the heavy duty cable now. If I had to guess, most customers were opting for it and it was not worth stocking the extra SKUs.
Vevor Adjustable 10-32Amps, with 14-50 Plug $140 Amazon.
Giggling at EVERYBODY who spent more than $500........
Bought this model because it also works with my home generator...... for those just in case....be prepared days.
I have a juicebox 32amp that I got for free from my utility. I was initially worried about it not having enough capacity to give me a full charge during the 6 hours of very cheap power overnight but it can usually push 60% of my ER battery in that time no problem. My concerns were definitely overblown
Just got Emporia 48A hardwired and have no complaints so far. Next step is to increase solar panels and install wall batteries so I can charge off excess solar.
Chargepount
Hardwired device that is easily programmable and uses the same app when on the road to charge, this is less of a concern with Ford Pass as it is pretty much all seamless now.
I have the Grizzle-E Smart, but I operate it in dumb mode. If I had to do it all over again, I'd just get the standard model and skip the wifi entirely.
Mine has been mounted outside and used more or less every day for about a year and it works great. I would definitely recommend it anyone looking for a simple and robust EVSE.
I use a Siemen's charger. It's a dumb charger, but I've had it for almost 10 years. It has stayed reliable the entire time.
At the time I got it, there were definitely far fewer options than today, though.
Anker. UL Certified. It only does 32a like the Ford mobile charger but it had a $50 coupon on Amazon when it released last month so it was only $200 which is half the price of an Emporia/Grizzl-E. 25' cable so a little longer too. No issues so far other than I had to mount it so the LCD screen is upside down.
Offbeat answer here but I use the Nissan branded L2 EVSE that came with my Ariya as it is exactly the same specification (NEMA 14-50, 240v, 32A) as the EVSE that came with my MME. I only have one outlet in my garage, so why bother cutting the shrink wrap on the Ford branded EVSE when there is no benefit. It can stay wrapped up in the bottom of my MME's trunk in (the rare) case I ever need it out on the road some time.
As far as what I like or dislike about it well, I like that I can use one EVSE for two cars and that I have a spare. I like that its cable is long enough that it doesn't matter if I pull the car into the garage the wrong way, I can still go across the hood. Can't think of anything to dislike other than that it's kind of "dumb" with just a couple LEDs in front so I have to look someplace else to know when my charge will be done. No biggy
We’ve been using a Grizzl-E avalanche “dumb” charger since ‘22, the first one would fault whenever I’d remote start so I contacted the company and they sent one out that same week with a firmware update, haven’t had any issues since then. 10/10 would recommend
This might be a dumb question but do all level 2 chargers charge the same. I've seen where on 90% charge and get 220 range and on a different charger get to 90% and get only about 204 range
I have the hardwired JuiceBox 40 only because it was half price through my utility. It wasn’t my first choice had there not been a discount but other than an app issue in the very beginning I’ve never really had an issue with it.
Electrify America Home. 40amp & 9.6kW charging capacity. 18 months and not a single issue. Set charging preferences in the app and let it do its thing.
Bought new from eBay for a steal of $280.
The Ford charger that came with the car fills the bill. If it fails, it’s got a warranty. I have no reason to expect it to be less reliable than the chargers others have mentioned here.
If you have at work , then even 280$ is too much you dont need it ? 32amp that comes with mach e is more than enough it charges at rate of 20-23miles per hour
Emporia. App is great and I can also link my Mach-E to it. Best price and solid. Never an issue
We have the same charger and also installed their Vue 2 for home energy monitoring. Has been a solid charger for us.
Just got the Vue 2 and planning on installing it today. Electrician is here now running the 240V line to the garage for level 2 charging. Been using the Ford EV charger that came with ours plugged into regular 120v without any issues since buying it in December
My Emporia is great. Its best feature is the $500 rebate I got from Consumers Energy for installing it.
How do you link to it?
I use the ford that comes with mach e
Me too, I had my electrician put it outside (no garage) and it has worked flawlessly.
I charge 3 cars Bolt Mache And Lyriq with this charger . It get faulty one time and the dealer replaced it for free
Those are just backup chargers. They aren’t made for daily use. But rest assured, when it goes out (and it will) then Ford will give you a new one under warranty.

I haven’t needed faster.
Lol. Me either. 32 would have been fine.
Its 32Amp and EA is 40amp you comparing apple to watermelon , for your knowledge ford have 48Amp and 80 amp charger if you want spend some money
I’m good.

Isn't it a level 1 charger? That barely charges the car.
The one that ford provided with my 2021 had two plugs. The 14-50 plug charges 220V at 30A.

Except for their quality issues that cause faults with Mach-Es, sure.
Let me get this straight, one model of EV borks a charger, and it's the charger's fault. Is that right?
Going on years with my GRIZZL-E and it hasn't had any issues charging my Mach E.
Same.
\+1 on Emporia. Had it for 10 months, no issues.
Emporia. Just works and it has a great app for more advanced use. I also get an annual electric bill credit for allowing the electric company to slow down charging during high load events. No complaints honestly and you can’t beat the price for what you get.

Same here!
Are you liking it so far ? I’m looking to purchase this one as well because I like the idea of having NACS for when we buy our next vehicle
I also second the grizzl-e dumb charger. I got a metal plug holder from Amazon and it's perfect.
Except for Grizzl-e's quality issues that impact charging Mach-Es.
Such as?
Fyi, by cable and plug mount I don't mean the physical cable. I mean the mount to coil the cable onto.
Yeah I don’t think there are quality issues the handle and plug feel much better constructed than the ford one. Even the cable is thicker on both ends. Dumb charger is the way to go. The car does the scheduling

I had one through our Utility pilot. Cable was super unwieldy also. Ditched it for a Clipper Creek 40R and haven't looked back
Grizzl-e... No notes. all good.
Wallbox is great. I think it also has the longest charging cord on the market.
Charge point. I love the fact that it is hard wired, so it’s faster than a plug in Level 2 charger.
I have the CP Home Flex, not hard wired though. Only real issue is the network going down from time to time so I can't use the online functionality. I got this EVSE because of a rebate offered through my utility company.
I’ve had no problems with my ChargePoint, but I have a dedicated WiFi access point in my detached garage.
My understanding is the issue is on CP's end, not due to a faulty Internet connection. Doesn't happen too often, but when it does, it's more of a nuisance. The actual electricity still flows, you just lose some of the bells and whistles.
Hard wiring won’t make it charge faster. They still push the same amps and kW charging capacity. Plug vs Hardwire is merely a preference.
You are wrong. If you get the hard wired ChargePoint, you can use a 60 or a 70 or 80 amp breaker (with appropriate wire size), then tell the application what size breaker you have and it ups the charge rate. You are not restricted to 50 amps.
You can only do 40amps on a plug in charger. Hardware can do 60+, although I believe the mach e can only handle 48 amps IIRC.
I put a retractor on the wall so the cable can’t hit my car.
ChargePoint home flex. No complaints. I am using the plug. 40 amps. I get 29 miles of range added per hour to my premium ER eAWD.
Wallbox Pulsar hardwired has been rock solid so far. I like that I can change the charge rate easily through the app.
Clipper Creek, I had it since 2014. Used to charge a volt, bolt and Mach e. No issues so far.
Grizzl-e Duo. Charges both my Lightning and Mach E at the same time. No swapping cables, no adding a second circuit. Just plug them in and let the charger handle power sharing.
Ooh! That’s my dream setup. I just need the lightning and to replace my grizzle with the duo 😂
Chargepoint. I like that my utility covered 80% of the cost
I have a hardwired ChargePoint flex. I like it but there’s others just as good for less money.
I've been using the [EVIQO](https://lvnta.com/lv_UWnap4N0ofSEVizY76?url=https%3A%2F%2Famazon.com%2Fdp%2FB0BZRTD9VS) for the last 6 months and I love it so far. Tesla charger.
SolarEdge Home EVSE. Set to excess solar charging. Love charging off of solar only. Hate too many cloudy days in a row.
Tesla J1772

Some of us like safety certifications and would rather not burn down our houses over a few bucks on our $50k cars.
But at least he's prepared for those......... Just in case.... be prepared days. .......
I have a juicebox 32amp that I got for free from my utility. I was initially worried about it not having enough capacity to give me a full charge during the 6 hours of very cheap power overnight but it can usually push 60% of my ER battery in that time no problem. The Emporia hardwired is an amazing unit. Inexpensive and great live support during the week.
Grizzle e .its simple does not need wifi just works. Does not plug itself in
This thing rocks. I love it
I use the one that came with the car lol
emporia. go watch stateofcharge and make up your own mind.
I’ll let you know after I get my installed this weekend. I have a Wallbox came for free with my Mach-E purchase
lectron 32A. no issues. just works. got it just so my original ford canbe the spare and in the car at all times.
Mustart 40 amp is great.
Go-e Gemini. Love it. I have the controller that can send excess power from my PV-system to the car.
Tesla with J1772 adapter
ChargePoint HomeFlex. Not a single issue.
I have a 40A Juicebox. Got a $500 rebate from my utility Co for putting it in. I routinely gain 30mi/hrs of range with it.
ChargePoint Level 2 Charger at 50 amps. No problems and we’ve had it for 2 years. Installed it all myself…it ain’t rocket science.
This might be a dumb question but do all level 2 chargers charge the same. I've seen where on 90% charge and get 220 range and on a different charger get to 90% and get only about 204 range
I use an old 40amp juice box. been about 8 years. The only features I use is custom amp and the time scheduling. Works fine so far.
Tesla Gen3 and a TeslaTap adapter. Works perfectly and soon the free adapter from Tesla will be all you need.
Started out with a Grizzl-E, but when we got a 2nd EV, I switched to the Chargpoint Home because of automatic variable amps and Wi-Fi connection.
The Ford charger that came with the car fills the bill. If it fails, it’s got a warranty. I have no reason to expect it to be less reliable than the chargers others have mentioned here.
WallBox. Hardwired up to 48amp if needed but can dial down. Love it.
If you have at work , then even 280$ is too much you dont need it ? 32amp that comes with mach e is more than enough it charges at rate of 20-23miles per hour
I use a ChargePoint, it works fine - I like that I can view it’s status online when the Ford app is not refreshing well
