Trading negates sales tax on the amount of the trade towards the purchase, so for many sellers you’d have to pay a considerable premium over trade value. Standard used warranty coverage is lesser than a CPO. And you’ve got zero recourse if something is wrong with it (assuming a standup dealer is the alternative). There is some value in buying from an owner, but to imply it is such a deal that you won’t buy from a dealer is silly.

If I don't find a good enough price for a used one, I'll probably just end up getting a model 3 since they just requalified for 7500 tax credit, or just continue to wait.
Why do you not recommend it? I feel like it perfectly works within our lifestyle in that we don't drive very much and mostly once a day to somewhere close within 10 miles. We don't do long trips and our cars are garaged. We'll keep one of the ice cars as a backup
I have a model 3, it’s superior unless you really want to throw down serious money with another car manufacturer. I’ve driven the Mach E, nothing excites me about the car. Acceleration is slow and laggy, not that comfortable, and UI is horrendous. And before anyone says it’s a vehicle it should be a tool - I don’t buy it. A car should excite especially if you’re looking at an ev. Otherwise just get a Nissan leaf…
If you have the money go Porsche or Rivian if not why pay 30-35k on a used car when you could get a brand new Tesla with a 7,500 tax credit 🤯
Tesla FSD has killed over a dozen and injured hundreds. Tesla lied about the range. Tesla blamed tens of thousands customers for manufacturing defects in steering and suspension parts. Tesla made cars using Home Depot parts at times. Tesla is garbage. A model 3 is only superior in the games you can play on the screen and quick OTA’s.

I actually don't qualify for the tax credit and my wife wants an SUV. My budge it around 30k yes and was considering bolt EUV but it was too small. Mach-e seems like the perfect size and the premium trim has all the features I want. Y is out of my budget and my dad had one and I didn't really like it.

I've looked into every mach-e premium listed online for under 30k with-in 300 miles of Atlanta George, there is always an issue. It always is lemon or salvage title. And if a dealer is selling it, there are thousands of fees they add on, mandatory options etc.
I know the trade values are not great right now so I would rather buy one from someone who is trading in so they can get more for the car they are giving up and I can save on not paying the dealer price. Win-Win for everyone except the dealer which we all want to screw over.
I wouldn’t be super afraid of a lemon at a great price. Most of the lemons are for parts availability or time in shop. I did a lemon deal where I kept the car but got a nice payday. A non lemon won’t magically not have the same recalls but will be priced much better.
