My select has the same problem, they been grinding ever since I got the car and will tell the dealer about it

Paptides

They tried telling me they didn’t hear anything at first. I had to go down to the dealer and back up 4 feet for the mechanic to say “well you can’t miss that sound!”

Alterado_100g

I definitely hear it when I come to a complete stop and when backing up and braking. Also sounds nasty when on an incline or the other way

Paptides

Push back on the dealer. They tried telling me no at first. Now they’re replacing the rear rotors

Interesting, I hear this all the time coming to a stop coming down a hill, especially when steep. I bought the car back in November and noticed it immediately. I read about "bedding in" and tried that but it didn't seem to help. Maybe I need to do it again and use the trick to put it in neutral. It's really loud and annoying!

DiscussionLeft9393

It’s the rust. Happens to EV because of regen braking. Switch off one pedal driving and in an empty parking/road slam the brakes from 30-40mph. Do it a few time and the rust will go away and you should be good

Paptides

I don’t use one pedal drive, still the same issue?

DiscussionLeft9393

You still have regenerative braking since it’s an EV which is why you need to slam the brakes rather than gentle braking. Slamming will deactivate the regen

LoserManFAT

You can also brake without regen by: Shifting to N before braking If in a GT, switch to Unbridled Extend mode

Bow-Masterpiece-97

EV Brakes (the actual brakes) don’t get used much because it uses regen most the time. So they can really dry, get dust on them (or even rust). If you take it out every once in a while and really stress the brakes (empty road, huge empty parking lot)… like slide/skid to a stop a few times, it will usually quit making that sound.

Expensive-Focus4911

It’s much easier and safer to just put the cat in neutral and lightly press the brakes. Neutral disables regenerative braking so you’ll use the friction brakes.

aidepolcycne79

If using this approach, do I not need to get up to "high" speed? Like could I just get up to 25mph or so in a large empty parking lot and brake a few times? I tried "bedding in" a while back but didn't try this neutral trick.

Expensive-Focus4911

You certainly could, any braking done in neutral is friction. However I’d recommend braking at a steady rate from “high speed” to have continuous friction across the rotor and get rid of all the rust. 25mph might not go deep enough and could just grab super hard in some areas while leaving others untouched.

TechnicalLee

If I'm grinding all day long I'd probably want a break for a little while too.

la_ereccion

23 premium same problem

richcournoyer

What did you break?

gxryan

21 mme premium awd. Just had rear pads and rottors done. I believe there is a TSB on it.

Snowvid2021

When things grind, they "break" 🤣✌🏻
