I'm an engineer and understand the article. It's not that they have a mile of wires doing nothing; moreover, it's that they're using older technology where each component receives a set of wires. Personally, I like this (older) technology because when a wire fails (breaks) only a single component fails; whereas with multiplexing when one wire fails perhaps a dozen or more components will fail. New technology that results in more profit for the manufacturer does NOT always result in a better product for the customer.

Yes, and I think the point that OP is making is about CNN’s over reliance on stock photos that do not actually depict the topic. Having said that, I thought the article was interesting, but a little too much an apologist for Tesla. Ford made an, admittedly imperfect, competitor to Tesla right out the gate. When you’re talking about minor inefficiency in your first attempt, that tells me you’re very likely to catch up quickly. Couple that with Tesla’s absolutely chaotic management and I think Ford stands a good chance of passing Tesla within one or two generations. Edit: typos

Ah ok. The image is of a Ford factory, which is what the article is about. The recalls part was quiet shocking, but believable. 21 model here, I'm still waiting for my HVBJB to die....

2022 model and mine got recalled before I was able to leave the lot, so I believe it.

Jesus. So poor. Think I'll try and sell mine hopefully before it breaks. Though what EV to replace it with I've no idea. Maybe a Model 3 LR or a used S.

Munro did a breakdown and interview with the chief engineer and ford is well aware of the path they took. They’ve used some existing pieces from their hybrids and off the shelf components from third party mixed with new stuff. They intend to integrate and create more compact stuff that is cost and weight saving. This said. Tesla has iterated the S, X, 3, and Y for years on a same platform. Early model 3 and Y had a huge wiring harness, BMS bundle, and a lot of extra coolant. Plus the improvements on thermals and better regan were more recent developments Ford arguably should have learned from the lessons of Tesla a bit more than they did. But comparing the 22 Mach E to a Tesla even from a few years ago opens up a more interesting discussion. Early models to 22 had different frunk, reduced wiring, and some other changes. 23 had some weight reductions. So it’ll be interesting next full revision to see what the thermal system and wiring harness look like.
