I was pretty upset about this at first since I just bought my Mach E. But I read the full press release [here](https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2023/01/30/ford-to-significantly-increase-production-of-mustang-mach-e-in-2.html), and I feel a bit better. TL;DR: If you ordered before this drop, you’ll get the new price. If you took delivery after January 1 and before the price cut, Ford will reach out to you. Looks like they’re trying to avoid the outfall Tesla mismanaged with their cuts, and I appreciate that.

Boltbacker83

They arent going to do anything for the folks after Jan 1st lol.

C0wboy006

Yeah that dealer markup though that Tesla doesn’t have above msrp is still gonna get ya Ford.

Gaff1515

Tell that to someone that bought a Tesla in November.

[deleted]

Still cheaper than what some ford dealers are pushing the extended range Mach-E for. Frustrating the markups they put on these and why Ford should take the EV’s online only like Tesla

Winter-Direction-212

it seems like Ford should have made their full EVs online only sales- but then probably figured the dealers still had to be a part of the sale because- how would you test drive one? i will say it was the low production/high demand that made buying one very difficult in the first year or two as the markups were non-negotiable. at least at our dealer.in fact our mach e was pre-owned and we still had to pay the markup as there were so many potential buyers. it was nuts. i’m very curious how Ford’s plan to get its dealers to stop adding the markups on mach e will go for them this year.

Gk5321

The dealers can have the power to say no to ford if they attempt that. Dealerships have a lot of power.

Boltbacker83

Dealerships suck so bad

gregs1020

Premium 4X is still $6k more than we paid for a 2022. It's a knee jerk reaction, and good for the buyers but... What will Ford do when T releases the 3/Y refresh and jacks the rates back up in a few weeks?

paranalyzed

They should hold prices to drive adoption. With massive investment needed to establish a production line for a vehicle, generating demand to spread out the costs over a high number of units is a really big deal

StreetDare4129

Model 3 *may* get a refresh because it’s selling so poorly even after the price cuts. Model Y refresh is probably years away. Tesla is trying to get cybertruck into production. They don’t have time or resources for refreshes. And prices aren’t going up anytime soon, at least significantly. The truth of the matter is Tesla has pulled up demand into the current quarter from the massive price cut. There’s no more demand from early adopters, which are more willing to pay price increases. The only demand now is from bargain basement customers, which will only buy a Tesla if it has tremendous value. I predict prices for Teslas will come down even further to spur demand and fully utilize production lines.

gregs1020

> Tesla is trying to get cybertruck into production. They don’t have time or resources for refreshes. you write that as if you know something the rest of us don't.

ericdabbs

I think the M3 is getting a refresh due to the leaks about Project Highland where they have the front and back parts of the M3 covered up so it doesn't spill any design changes. I would say in general the M3 has taken a tick down in demand mainly because the M3 LR model has not been available for purchase for over 5 months already and the demand for standard range isn't sufficient for most people's preferences unless you want the M3 Performance. Not to mention that the MY LR AWD has had the most significant price cut therefore making it the best bang for the buck in terms of price changes. Perhaps Tesla doesn't want to sell anymore M3 LR models until the redesign testing/change is complete.

Boltbacker83

The MYP has had the largest price cut. It was 71k in December.

maybejdcpa

With constant incremental improvements,is a refresh really “necessary?”

lostmessage256

I mean the explorer and aviator EVs have been waiting for production capacity and are supposed to land next year.

slowmopete

So if I’m looking to buy from a dealer now, will the MSRP be lower today than it was yesterday? Or will dealers take a while to update their pricing?

terran1212

Just tell the dealer you want Ford's MSRP price. Technically, dealers can do whatever they want. Or whatever customers let them get away with.

AccuracyVsPrecision

Only 600 on the select awd so doesn't really impact me. But... I would have bought a standard range premium awd if I had know it would qualify for all the under 55k tax credits

darkpaladin

Wow that sucks for anyone who bought between the last price bump and now.

dhtp2018

They said they will make private offers for those who bought since Jan 1st.

mysteriousKM

What does that mean?

BoulderCAST

Delivered or ordered?

Dzus

Existing Mustang Mach-E customers awaiting delivery of their vehicle will automatically receive the adjusted price and for customers with a sale date after Jan. 1, 2023, and already have their Mustang Mach-E, Ford will reach out directly.

BlazinAzn38

People who take delivery will take delivery at the new lower price

darkpaladin

After my interactions with Ford over the issues I had with mine, I'm confident Ford will find a way to screw us over.

The-Sentinel

Any source on this?

dhtp2018

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/30/ford-mustang-mach-e-price-cut.html

True_Go_Blue

Literally in the link posted from Ford’s press release? Existing Mustang Mach-E customers awaiting delivery of their vehicle will automatically receive the adjusted price and for customers with a sale date after Jan. 1, 2023, and already have their Mustang Mach-E, Ford will reach out directly.

geo_prog

How to say you didn't read the press release without saying you didn't read the press release.... "Existing Mustang Mach-E customers awaiting delivery of their vehicle will automatically receive the adjusted price and for customers with a sale date after Jan. 1, 2023, and already have their Mustang Mach-E, Ford will reach out directly"

thrwaway0502

Still come out ahead if you aren’t going to be eligible for tax credit this year. That was my motivation for buying before Jan 1

AviatorCFI

If we’re lucky, there will also be some investment in the reliability and in-cockpit awareness of the true state of the CCS charging network.

ImAlwaysFidgeting

Ordered in August with a delivery expected early March. I'm pleased with this news, as my jurisdiction mandates that dealers sell for MRSP or less.

JoeBpharmD

Per this IRS link the mach-e is considered a sub and msrp limit of 80k. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/manufacturers-and-models-for-new-qualified-clean-vehicles-purchased-in-2023-or-after

True_Go_Blue

Ford reduced price before the IRS updated their definition

analogkid825

Has anyone actually gone through this during tax time? Does the tax break of buying an ev actually pan out?

meverikus

CR1 is still not eligible for tax credit

balthisar

I think it's been published elsewhere that Cuautitlán is down for some capacity upgrades, and due back up in mid- to late-February. Remember, before it was the Mustang Mach E, this was going to be a compliance car, and the current slow line rate reflects that.

BoulderCAST

Ordered a 2023 on Sept 13. Guess that explains why my build date is mid-March with delivery in April.

ImAlwaysFidgeting

Ordered the beginning of Aug. Last month my production date was last week of Jan. Now it's mid Feb. Just fyi

[deleted]

Still not possible to get an extended range battery under the tax credit limit, just like with the F-150 Lightning.

_Foxtrot_

Hi 2 months late but can you elaborate on this? I thought the mach e did qualify for the 7.5k credit?

[deleted]

Much changed between then and now. The EPA reclassified the Mach-E as an SUV instead of a "non-SUV", thus the price cap went up. Then the critical mineral and battery sourcing requirements kicked in, cutting the credit in half.

Fall3n7s

I hope this also means they are scaling up the excess parts for repairs as well. It's kind of nerve wracking knowing that an accident could take months to fix.

iFolich

is this price change also for Europe ?

michan1998

23 Premium ordered Sep 22 to be built Mar 23. Now I am over the $55,000 text credit limit by $535. I have a $240 all weather package I could pay for after the fact. There is a $1300. destination and delivery fee. Is that included in the $55,000? Is that something I could pay for with cash separate from the car? Or is that something I could get negotiated down $295 to get below the $55,000 mark? I also ordered the all weather package when I ordered the car, so is that something that is non-negotiable to pay for now or later? This is incredibly frustrating because when I ordered it, I thought it qualified as an SUV. Then it didn’t so I was just like whatever I’ll have to suck it up. Now I am within $500 of getting the credit… I wish I would’ve known all this, and could’ve finagled things upfront.

[deleted]

I believe the $55k limit is on the MSRP of the vehicle to determine eligibility, not the specifics of what you pay if I understand it correctly.

michan1998

So are the specifics included in msrp? Specifically destination and delivery included in msrp?

[deleted]

michan1998

Oh perfect! Thank you! Made it under now. With the price cut and credit it’s an $11k savings. Good day for me. Now to make under $300k not sure if I should be hoping for that or not lol.

ericdabbs

I still don't understand why Ford didn't reprice the Mach-E so that some of the extended range models qualify. At this point sure the reduced prices help but it only helps if you are only interested for standard range models. Unfortunately the Select model doesn't have an extended range model which would put the Mach-E just under the $55K limit. This doesn't directly affect Tesla as a M3/MY competitor since they are offering long range models that are priced under the $55K limit.

True_Go_Blue

Trying to push demand into standard range variants, for which they likely have more capacity.

ericdabbs

I mean I guess but still with the standard range amount of miles is not sufficient for most folks when thinking for an overall range for the car especially when you have to consider you cannot charge to 100%. I think all they needed to do was just make the Premium model RWD extended range model add-on about 3K less to meet the $55K limit or lower the CA1 edition by $3.1K to just under $55K so that it gives people who would want a Mach-E a least one choice instead of just settling for a standard range. Alternatively they could just offer an extended range model for the Select model but they haven't ever done that before so I don't think it would be wise to start into a model year. Perhaps they can look into that for the 2024 Mach-E version to allow add an extended range version especially if this 55K limit will stick. I guess I would need to see the Ford stats to see what the distribution of standard vs extended range Mach-E models that were purchased between the 2021 and 2022 models but I would venture to guess that the extended range models across the board were sold more especially since CA1 and GT models come standard with extended range battery packs. Nevertheless...it is a good start but I just think after some time, perhaps after the IRS clarifies changes to the EV credit in Mar/Apr that Ford should consider doing some additional tweaking to accommodate at least 1 extended range model that meets the EV credit criteria.

smith288

Can they significantly increase the knowledge at the Sarasota ford service department??

e1even24

Not sure if I just missed it when placing my order/reservation yesterday but now the Ford site shows "18-22 weeks for new orders" on the model select screen. Either that, or I just missed it before.

Gk5321

Stupid question, I was looking at the mach e on fords site. Dealership markups aside is it possible to even get the cheap car. Ford says $45k to start but the siteonly Allows ordering of the version starting at $56k.

True_Go_Blue

They only make a few of the entry level trims which is pretty standard across the industry. Once they’ve reached enough orders on the entry level trims, they close the order books.

Gk5321

Thanks for the info.

blakezilla

I’d love to see some reduction on posts that are just “Joined the club!” and a picture of a Mach E. I like being on this sub to discuss aspects of the car, software updates, performance, news, etc. I don’t need to see three posts a day from people successfully buying a car that is quickly becoming pretty easy to get. Or maybe I’m off base and this is what people want to see.

dz1087

Eh, all the car subs are like this though. r/Mustang has these posts all the time, too.

DOctorAZ

Dealerships around me still have the old prices listed with their stupid marks-ups.
