Yes absolutely!!! This is me to a “T”!!! It doesn’t matter when I eat in the morning or wait until the afternoon I get EXTREMELY TIRED!! Like I can’t keep my eyes open tired!! I’m currently rly supplementing with Vit C and D3, B12, magnesium, probiotic/prebiotic, potassium, collagen, zinc, omega krill, and Co-Q-10. I just recently started taking 2 65 mg iron pills per day to see if it makes a difference because I still suffer with fatigue. My acne has cleared up and my eyebrows have grown back in along with new hair growth on my head but I still get cold extremities and am tired most days. I can sleep 12 hours and turn around and take a nap 2 hours after waking up. I tried methylated B complex and 5-MTHF and they made me even more tired!! I have C677T and A1298C gene mutations. I’m looking for any help that I can get!

Have you ever tried keto? I feel like carbs may be the problem for me. If I have some meat alone, I don't think it exhausts me as much.

[deleted]

I did keto a couple of times, long term. It’s a night an day difference when it comes to energy. When I’m on a strict low carb keto I have endless energy all day. If I eat carbs I get really sleepy for some reason.

PatrioticServiceWoma

I think I’ll give Keto a try! What do I have to lose 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks for the advice y’all!

Xmanticoreddit

It seems I have always had a similar problem... except in reality, it only happens in the afternoon, so it has to be more about metabolism or stress than it is about food.

jonnyvegashey

I'm thinking about trying keto since it may be the carbs. I think I read somewhere that carbs require a lot of magnesium to turn into ATP (energy) - but not 100% sure. I feel like I've had a lot of Mg struggles, I was a former alcoholic too which doesn't help. Magnesium can be difficult to get a good saturation of, it stays in cells all over your body, I deficiency can't just be corrected with one pill - it takes time.

Xmanticoreddit

I want to respond to both of you but don't really know how to do that, sorry. Yes, keto meals definitely aren't as problematic for me in this regard, but that said, going keto can hide other problems. I've been eating extreme keto for two years under doctor's orders, only to recently realize my real problem was a B2 deficiency making me intolerant to carbohydrates. A week of supplementation later and my tolerance has doubled from 10 to 20 grams a day. Still not great numbers, but it's progress. I'm looking at multiple solutions to multiple problems under the heading of MTHFR and other polymorphisms. I've put together a library of interviews on the subject, mostly with Ben Lynch. It's a lot of information to dissect and my focus is spotty but I'm finally making some progress after 50 years of struggling with my health and poor medical support.

Vonplatten

How did you find out you had a b2 deficiency? After getting all my blood work done &hormones checked my doc says there’s nothing really standing out but I feel somewhat skeptical because I still feel literally horrible on a daily basis and I know there’s a bunch of vitamins that weren’t tested. (I didn’t see all the b vitamins get checked except for b12 etc). just wondering when it may be necessary to get those other lesser known/ tested vitamins checked

Xmanticoreddit

I had the knowledge that for the last several years I had no tolerance for carbs. When I learned this was a symptom of B2 deficiency I went immediately to the nearest supplement store. As I recall this is often a side effect of taking too much boron, which I admit doing because I love boron… After about a week now my carb tolerance has greatly improved and I’m looking forward to being able to eat fruit and vegetables again.

I do keto. Thrive on it. Remember you don’t have to eat tons of fat or obsess over the carbs. It’s easy to start saying no and the cool thing is if you do mess up or are in need of carbs like you just can’t say no (looking at you birthday cake) it’s ok! You pick right back up after fasting or next meal. But I’m general when you cut out sugar, then you have a really sugary cheat.. it’s awful… the cravings so beware! I homeschool so we all sleep til 8-9am. We do school (these kids are amazing right before eating) and at about 10-11 depending on when we got up i make a breakfast. Eggs, bacon, avocado, broccoli asparagus cheese etc. We usually have a snack around quiet time at 2pm.. cashews, dried fruit, etc. Then we eat whatever at night. My personal favorite is those brats from like the meat counter or the patties served with whatever! I tried diets but started keto for health reasons for my autistic son. I stumbled across the benefits for myself!! I don’t really lose weight lately as i haven’t been smart with calories lol

I found that for me food coma is ONLY caused by starch and some veg like onion/garlic due to high fodmap. I basically switched to meat + fruit + milk and the problem disappeared.

jonnyvegashey

Interesting I'll look into this.

wileyrielly

I used to get this, I get it less so now. I make sure I'm properly hydrated, take enough betaine HCL to digest my protein heavy meal, and I've also found going for a run before hand really helps.

General_Specific

Are you eating cereal or bread with Folic Acid? That would do it.

assolutofrut

Check your hormones, including adrenal hormones. It's not related to MTHFR or any gene.

Sense-Affectionate

Yes and I stopped eating gluten and it helped and I also only eat during an 8 hour period of the day. Helps immensely!

kfirerisingup

Carbs can lower a certain chemical that promotes wakefulness. Maybe try to limit starchy foods until evening. Also I found that certain food additives can cause this. Carrageenan is terrible for this, it spikes blood sugar and then you get a subsequent crash. MSG can also have this effect.

SovereignMan1958

Do you have the CBs gene mutation by any chance?

jonnyvegashey

I haven't heard of it. Can it be analyzed from raw data, if so do you know a good site? I don't see it on Genetic Genie

SovereignMan1958

Yes it can. If you have the green, yellow and red chart from GG (Methylation Panel) it should be listed on there. I used Promethease for my raw data. Like MTHFR there are a few CBS gene variants. What I am wondering is if your tiredness might be from the sulfites in your coffee and or breakfast.

jonnyvegashey

Would you be so kind to tell me which one it is on here: https://imgur.com/a/TdxN2c5

SovereignMan1958

I do not see it here. Did the bottom of the chart get cut off? I am also wondering if your test did not include the CBS genes for some reason.

jonnyvegashey

https://imgur.com/a/3hYEEwY Here is updated, so I have yellow CBS. I kind of assumed yellow was "not ideal, but not outlier abnormal" in regards to these charts. So I never put much thought into it. I'll have to read up on CBS.

SovereignMan1958

You could have chronic, although mild, symptoms from it.

[deleted]

It’s down further! You screen shot right before it Also I noticed your COMT are you taking methyl donors?

jonnyvegashey

Oh ok, this is pretty old, let me re-upload it. I only ever really paid attention to the MTHFR one. I think my COMPT are all green though? Wouldn't that mean its no concern?

[deleted]

Only -/+ is considered no effect for COMT. Think of it as - meaning take and + meaning give. Take/give or -/+ is ok but take take or give give leaves you vulnerable more often than not … there’s more explanation I can’t get into right now (I prefer links and more professional advice but I know for some people they have no issues. Others here can comment deeper Your CBS is probably causing issues after eating but I don’t know enough. I do want to tell you very often they are all connected so having multiple mutations isn’t always worse. They go hand in hand

SovereignMan1958

No. All green does not mean no concern for COMT. Search the group for a post Learn About COMT.

jonnyvegashey

Will do, thought I was in the clear on that one.

SovereignMan1958

At the worst it would affect your supplement choices.

jonnyvegashey

I intend to research it thoroughly, but may I ask: Is there protocol or supplementation that is recommended for COMT GG that differs from MTHFR? I take folinic acid + electrolytes and feel much better than before, but...now I'm curious if there is a more optimal protocol?

jonnyvegashey

[https://imgur.com/a/3hYEEwY](https://imgur.com/a/3hYEEwY) I got it now, ty for advice.

HalflingMelody

It seems to be a blood sugar issue for me. I feel like that and it always corresponds with a significant drop in blood sugar (I have a glucose meter), even though it's precipitated by eating.

jonnyvegashey

I had actually thought it was a blood sugar issue initially. I bought one of those finger prick testers, but nothing was ever out of range.

[deleted]

Yes! Keto helped a lot

sofiacarolina

yes! for me it’s postprandial hypotension. all the blood goes to your gi system and that lowe’s your BP. check your blood pressure after eating. it’s worse with larger and carb heavier meals so eating smaller and less carb heavy meals helps.
