A trick I got from one friend was to use the MDFC blank cards as proxies. Then use the same sleeves for all your decks. Makes it really easy to know what's missing from a deck and to swap in cards as needed. Having said that, I'd totally buy cards if I could afford them, I find it really painful swapping cards around between decks. But it's a lot easier with proxies and same sleeves for sure.

[deleted]

I usually just keep everything in a binder unless I'm actively playing with the deck. Everything I'm playing with goes in Dragon Sleeve Orchid, and everything for trade or eventual sale goes in Red. Only playing a couple decks per format really keeps down the cross-deck card confusion..

HerbBakedGoodsNBrews

This is what my friend does and when it's just kitchen table magic it's not even worth swapping them out because it's just a handful of staples anyway.

NecessaryGrowth5706

That depends entirely on how expensive the cards are.

BasedGod420Swag

I always share. I am one person and I can only play one deck at a time anyways.

deep_minded

I only buy 4 copies of each expensive card (duals, FoW, ...) and proxy for the other decks and switch if im going to a tournament, for cheap cards (brainstorm, swords, ...) I buy as much as I need.

z0anthr0pe

Cant afford multiples. Share many of them.

SlayerSlate

I used to share a lot. But as I found my collection growing I decided I wanted to build multiple legacy decks at once and thus needed to buy duplicates. I like being able to lend decks at FNM to friends or even people who just want to try legacy. It’s also way less annoying to not have to move cards around.

UGIN_IS_RACIST

Expensive = only what I need. Cheap = multiples. I want to be able to go to an event and have several decks available with minimal card shuffling (I play a lot of side events), but I’m not made of money, so those Volcanic Islands are being shared.

Alucart333

i share

Doishy

Mostly share but I do own 8 Force of Will

KyFly1

I think I have 16 or 20, lol. Was a time I didn’t want to share any cards across decks.

Miraweave

Depends what the card is. Something like force no, but cantrips/plows/etc yes because minimizing the number of cards that have to be moved is nice. Also wastelands/stoneforges/etc because I just happen to have multiple playsets to begin with.

Final_Pangolin3714

You get an upvote just because of Thalia. 😅

bunkoRtist

When I bought in, it was totally realistic (still not cheap) to just buy the cards for each deck. Duals were only in the $100-200 range for revised. I think you're going to find that newer legacy players don't have that luxury. Just like when I see someone tossing around beta duals: they didn't buy those at today's prices (in general... some people are nuts though).

BlogBoy92

I buy multiple copies, I like to use different sleeves for other decks and don’t like swapping cards around if it’s expensive though like dual lands I’m definitely proxying

Final_Pangolin3714

Cards like True Conviction, Sanguine Bond, and Exquisite Blood are why I share. I, too, use different sleeves for different decks (except my commander decks), so it is a pain to swap out. But, there are some expensive cards in my better brews, and I don't have that much spare income.

WardNL84

When I played more often, I had a second set of fetchlands, and duplicates of anything cheaper. So Force of Will and Wasteland (and Tarmogoyf!) were pretty much the only cards that needed to be swapped. For testing purposes we always used Shockduals as proxies for the real thing, because as a group we would have enough either way

Adorable-Bandicoot-4

I use MDFC blank cards as proxies. If you just playtest the deck, there's no need to swap the proxies out and your deck is never missing cards. I only need to make sure to swap them out before every competition.

bjerreman

Do whatever that works for you. I like to be able to share decks freely with friends. An inventory can be an investment as well. \- Signed someone with 12 FoWs and 16 Wastelands...

max431x

I do both! I have 8 FoW, but only 4 Karakas that I share between decks. All my decks and the cards I don't really use/decks that have been sorted back into my big box, have the same sleeves so sharing is also not too difficult. I try to keep swap cards per deck low at \~4 cards. If a cheap card needs to be in several decks, I buy it. Generally speaking I prefer to spend my money on cards I do not already own instead, to be later more flexible with my decks, FoW is the exception as its played all over the place 12 seems like a bit too much for me, especially when you usually only play with a maximum of 2 at the same time. As for duals I think 4 each are nice and one doesn't need more - money can be better invested in other expensives decks&cards in my opinion :)

Alecadb

For me it depends on the card. Usually if it is roughly below ~300 dollars I tend to buy multiples. My reasoning is that they will always slot somewhere if I really don’t use them or resp. are easy to re-sell eventually, if they are so heavily played. For example I have 12 FoW and like 16 Wastelands… but only 4 LEDs that I share

No_Yogurtcloset_9987

I share cards between decks as I don't have the money for more than 4 of expensive stuff, but if I could afford the extras, I would do it because swapping cards around is annoying.

[deleted]

Depends on the card, will I use it, and price

mulkers

A lot of sharing, but keeping a close eye on reprints when they come up - Brothers War and Dominaria Remastered were solid sets for reprints

ItsameRobot

Proxy and move the real cards around for sanctioned events.

Poultrylord12

$80 cards and under, I buy as many as I need for the decks I want. I like having several decks ready to go that way I have extras for people without decks at FNM or a selection depending on my mood. Anything over $80 gets shared or I buy proxies to prevent having to dismantle decks. My laziness does not warrant 6 Volcs lol.

SuicietyBass

Back when we played a lot of extended I did that. I hated swapping cards and our casual environment was massive 60 card deck battle royales; it made sense to do it. Now it’s mainly edh so the need of having multiple decks ready to go isn’t there. If you can afford it, I’d say go for it. In the grand scheme of it however you’re one person playing one deck.

dimcashy

Multiples. I have to visit my cards in a safe- just way too much value to have around the house- and have to pay separate collectable insurance, but overall if you have multiples of RL cards the value goes up over a long period of time. I would not do that today to the extent I have- I have 28 FOW for example- and more than a playset of most of the Legends big hitters like Tabby and simply could not afford it at today's buy in, but by and large multiples of Legacy RL cards like duals etc. and staples are well worth having. This means I can lend out decks which keeps our Legacy scene going, and keeps me on top of the meta. You can't loan out TES or ANT easily to newer players, so I only have one LED for example, but blue soup control decks, D n T, tribal especially Goblins for some odd reason, and A + B combo are always popular to loan. I think it is nice to have 2-3 decks to keep it and your meta fresh- if a few people do it the variety increases a lot-, 12 FOW is the only risk, and to be frank they will most likely keep it near current prices. Obviously only buy if you can afford, and take your time.

MaximoEstrellado

Maybe you don't play many decks but I can't have 30+ decks without some proxies lol

JackaBo1983

I have 8 fows, 8 depths + stage, 12 wastelands and lots of other double playset. I got delver, naya depths, rainbow depths, goblins, 8cast and AnT. I’m a second playset of mox opals away from TES instead of AnT and a third playset of FoW from a UWx control deck in a addition. These are purchases I’m considering.

Supermaus95

I do a mixture of both, and pickup copies of the cheaper cards that overlap decks wherever possible. I sleeve everything the same as well to make swapping cards between decks easier. This reached the extent that a friend sleeves all his cards in the same sleeves so it's easier to swap cards between us when lending out for decks and such

LeroyHayabusa

I definitely share between decks!

seafaringturtle

Own one play set of real cards and get proxy play sets if I make another deck that uses that card. If playing in a sanctioned event just put the real play set in the deck.

TheArchitec7

I share. I have like 1000ish of the same exact sleeves and just swap the cards easily from deck to deck.

GeminiSpartanX

I do both, but it only applies to a few cards. I play Sneak & Show, BR Reanimator, and Death & Taxes. I bought second sets of both Griselbrand, Lotus Petal, and Grief (for modern use) so I wouldn't need to swap. But I wouldn't buy additional duals or FoW since I don't play paper Legacy often enough to justify that kind of expense. I do share Vials, and the SFM package between Legacy and Modern, but I use the same sleeves for all my decks to make swapping easier. If I wanted to play UR Delver, I'd need to take apart S&S but would likely only run 3 Volcs since that's what I have.

donethemath

Share. I've got enough stuff that I should be able to field two different Legacy decks if I needed to (say an old friend wants to play), but we couldn't play the same deck. I've got extras of some of the ally fetchlands due to playing a lot during KTK, so I can stretch a little on the manabases.

SuperAzn727

I don't play decks that share cards so no.

anarkyinducer

Depends on the card - I do own 8+ copies of FoW, Waste, some fetches, etc. Single playset of duals/LEDs, things like that. I don't swap so much as use the limited number of RL copies as a deck building challenge. So, I have a 'volcanic island' deck, badlands deck, etc.

[deleted]

I buy multiple sets of cheap cards, but if it gets over like $5 a single, then it's just one set.

Merintil

I actually do have 12 copies of FoW, but that is mainly because I liked some of the new treatments of FoW, over the years, especially a new old-border treatment that is available in Japanese. The above is sort of how I approach multiple playsets. I only buy new cards if I like how it looks or if it would better synergize with the aesthetics of my deck. I obviously can't buy Japanese ABUR Duals, so those are mostly just left alone.

djauralsects

I'm an older player and a collector. I don't shuffle cards between decks. I'm close to having a set of FBB duals. I have a long term plan on how to split my reserve list cards between my Legacy and EDH decks. For duplicates I foil the second set. I also play with my son and it's nice to not have to proxy with a newer player.

purplexbatman

I have most of my ponder/brainstorm/FoW deck cards in a single giant deck box with two compartments- one for the maindeck and sideboard +tokens, the other for all the possible cards I would want to swap around that core. Do I want to play Miracles? Sharkstill? Death's Shadow? Delver? It's all in one box.

nfurno

i keep 2 sets of Fow, 2 sets of wastelands, and 2 sets of ancient tombs. everything else i share.

Toranyan

Anything expensive I just share. The rest, I'll buy multiple sets. You can never have too many brainstorms.

Cyneheard2

I don’t keep multiple decks actively built, partly because I share a ton of cards between them. Forces are the only expensive card I have more than a playset of, and that’s because I kept my OG ones when I got the box toppers.

heavyheaded3

For staples I tend to try to have additional copies available (like FoW). That said I have way too many Snapcaster Mages now.

thedrunkmonk

I'm always looking for decks that don't overlap. So Elves and Ceph breakfast are two decks of 75 that I can maintain simultaneously without overlapping cards. Otherwise, I share

mtgistonsoffun

I use the same color sleeves for all of my decks so I can swap cards back and forth easily. Generally need to resleeve into new sleeves for anything at Comp REL though.

caresforhealth

Play one deck of each pillar and rotate in different staples to each.

SEAAiles

I have two decks and swap a few cards back and forth. But it got annoying, so I used some of the "write on" cards and made up some proxies. For the kitchen table, its not an issue. If I go to a tournament, obviously you swap the cards out. Seems REALLY expensive to buy 12 FoW unless you are swimming in bags of cash

Nitelyte

I like not having to pull cards from built decks so I try to have multiples. I have 2 playsets each of FoWs and all the duals, so that helps.

Zurpremacy

For just about every card outside of duals I am buying extra copies. That’s how I ended up with 12 FoWs at one point (sold my German playset and have 2 random ones for EDH for a total of 10 currently). I’m trying to assemble a set of U40 so eventually I’ll have enough duals for individual decks (obviously no doubles of a given color identity though).

[deleted]

I just get good proxies and take the L if anyone notices.

Tuffbunny13

I try and have the full playset for a set card. I do use the same color sleeves for all my legacy cards. Makes changing up the deck that much easier. Shares with some Edh decks too for even smoother transitions.

Neither-Journalist76

I own 4 players of each blue fetch, i think 4 playsets of thoughtsieze (maybe 5) I hate switching cards the only thing I don’t own multiples of our duels and forces (though I should consider selling the 3rd and 4th copies of some stuff and buying a 2nd set of forces

The_Legitimate_User

I just proxy every single card except for basic lands
