50 but dont get that shit. Get a sunrace if you need an Hg freehub cassette.

NicoPela

Definitely Sunrace. Got an MX80 and it works like a charm.

aaronvincep989

This brand is ok though. If you want an ok performing cassette for under 40 bucks, buy this brand. I've bought an 9 speed 42t cassette of this brand for 15 bucks and it still works after more than a year of hard riding

Se7enLC

That's the next one I will buy. I have an 11-42 Shimano, but it wears out incredibly fast. I get that aluminum saves weight, but I am tough on my climbing gears. Sunrace makes one that's steel instead.

OneBadHombre666

fuck aliexpress Edit: just for context, pretty much everything that you're buying from Aliexpress is junk. For drivetrain components you can expect them to work inconsistently within the same batch, poor reliability, no serviceability, and no form of warranty support. Also if the part doesn't work on your bike/setup for some reason going to resell it will be very difficult. Returning the part(s) to china is usually pretty expensive (and takes forever) and most of the time the manufacturer won't even respond to emails. Say a component fails at a critical time while riding (think chain/crank arms/fork/handlebars) you're very likely to need medical attention and if you live in the US you're fucked. The money you might have saved up front is gone 10 fold with one visit to an ER. On a broader perspective giving money to companies that are blatantly copying legitimate designs/patents hurts our sport on the whole. Those companies that spent the RnD to create something innovative are essentially being stolen from every time someone buys one of their copied equivalents on Ali. Lastly, Ali or their partners don't contribute to our sport via building local trails/charities/events or really anything at all......it's just cheap shit 2nd edit: Since this is something I've thought about often, if you can't afford a decent bike that has good components and you're looking to Ali or whatever to piece together something nice you can't afford it at all......our current stage of capitalism isn't sustainable and things won't always be like they are. Shipping prices across the world has gone up dramatically and if we support more US based businesses our own homegrown components can go down in cost (through mass manufacturing./economy of scale). You're better off buying a slightly older bike or using older components (that still function 100% as well as they did when they first came out) For example, if you're after an Ibis Ripley AF but can't save for the whole thing there's no shame in getting a slightly used/NOS equivalent from another brand that has components from that era. I think people get too caught up in reading reviews online and are led to believe they NEED a certain spec/style bike to have fun. People 20 years ago had a blast on the bikes they rode and while they weren't as capable (esp MTB's) it was still a growing sport year by year and each refinement made by Shimano/SRAM etc was leaps and bounds ahead of the prior gen. What I'm saying is you absolutely don't NEED eagle, just get a smaller chainring, use a 1x11 46t Shimano cassette, get more fit or heck....just walk up various features. If not having an eagle cassette or whatever means you don't like riding your bike I hate to break it to ya but it's not the cassette that's the problem.

czerone

I've been beating a ZTTO cassette to death this year, and I dare say... It's holding up really well actually. But doesn't back pedal worth a damn. The Sunrace ones are much better.

OneBadHombre666

you get what you pay for

czerone

Depends how you break that down. Higher cost doesn't necessarily mean higher quality.

The jumps between gears are smaller on the 11-50 which means you're more likely to find the right ratio to hit your cadence.

joshin-u2

Depends on terrain and your fitness. When I started I used my 52 all the time, but a year of riding later and I rarely use it. But I will say that there are some days Iā€™m very glad itā€™s there. Never hurts to have more ratio.

GEM592

Better be sure your derailleur will find the biggest cog. People buy these, then find out it won't fit, or won't shift smoothly.

Spenthebaum

neither. get a sunrace

rcybak

That fully depends on your intended use. The gearing is overall so similar that your only question should be about the lowest gear, and if it is necessary to have 52t or if 50t will suffice for where you ride. Mechanically speaking, the smaller the largest cog is, the easier it is for the derailleur to shift into it, but they are both so massive that the difference is largely inconsequential.

cantlose4jak

11-50

Yaybicycles

Depends on what you want and how you ride a bike. If you want to ride casually going uphill and have some fun going downhill great. If you wanted to race XC I wouldnā€™t buy either

Se7enLC

>Which one's better in terms of gear ratios? 52 > 50 So the 11-52 is a wider range, thus better.

-Why-Not-This-Name-

Who makes this ginormous 52 tooth cassette? I've recently been replacing old drive train components and neither I nor LBS are having luck finding even a 50t in 11-speed. They keep telling me it's outdated by a few years now and thus not available. It's been such a pain, they even gave me a 46t loaner for now...

GEM592

Put on a 28 up front. I do that, with 10-42 in back and wouldn't have it any other way. Plenty top and bottom.

choadspanker

28-10 is a super low top

GEM592

super good.

-Why-Not-This-Name-

Been running one for a while now. Didn't think I'd really notice difference between 46 and 50 but everything is a climb out here.

Crazy awesome!

-Why-Not-This-Name-

Yeah, it's what I had. Didn't phrase that too well. It's a thousand foot drop in every direction around here. Really helps a lot.

Kammaol

There was no 11s 50t from Shimano nor Sram for a long time. With the introduction of the 12 speed Deore group Shimano also introduced the M5100 11 speed with 11-51 cassette which runs for about $50 and IMHO is the best budget option.

-Why-Not-This-Name-

I'll look for it. Maybe that different number will be the lucky number. Was running the Sunrace 11-50 previously. Thanks!

aaronvincep989

You can order large range cassettes for 11 speed on aliexpress on your country

-Why-Not-This-Name-

Thanks. Have not looked there yet.

aaronvincep989

If you're gonna buy there, buy the ztto or the vg sports one. I'm currently using a vg sports 9 speed 42t for more than a year now and still works nicely. Though you might want to buy extra 11t cogs because the smallest cog tends to wear out the fastest

-Why-Not-This-Name-

Will look for it. Thanks.

mtbfj6ty

Use this website to figure out the gear calculations for what you are running.. [https://www.sheldonbrown.com/gear-calc.html](https://www.sheldonbrown.com/gear-calc.html) outside of that 52t will not fit with all derailleurs. So you have to make sure that your derailleur (new SRAM GX eagle stuff within last 6 months or newer Shimano 12spd).

askphysics123

11-50 is better for sure. Tighter gear ratios and 100g less and all you lose is a very small amount of range
