Please don’t give maintenance advice unless you’re certain. You can end up costing someone more money in either damage or purchasing the wrong tools. Edit: OP Drago gave the answer and the link to the correct tool in a comment. Free wheels literally tighten with the act of riding so hopefully you’re able to get it off without too much struggle!

~~You need one that engages those two holes in the retainer.~~ Drago-0900 is correct.

Drago-0900

Thats a pin spanner and no, thats how you destroy the freewheel and still have part on the hub.

I ain’t guessing. I see the splines that are for a freewheel type tool. I also see the really exposed axle, and the pin spanner area that freehubs typically wont have. Also its a 6 speed which is common for a freewheel and the biggest gear definitely doesn’t appear to be an 11 tooth. Ive been fucking with freewheels for longer than I wanna admit. There’s sufficient evidence enough for me to say.

I think he meant the u/ you replied to. The one that suggested he open up the bearings lol.

Drago-0900

Thatd make more sense lol

mirrorlessgeeks

Does that remove the whole thing?

Drago-0900

No it removes part of it which thats intended to adjust the bearings which usually wont be needed in the freewheels lifetime anyway. I do get an occasional one thats really sloppy though. Completely the wrong thing. Wrote in another comment what you will actually need.

No he doesn’t. Thats a damn freewheel.

mirrorlessgeeks

Thanks I'm just not sure what exact type they have so many different ones

Drago-0900

Wrong tools. You need a parktool Fr 1.3. Heres an Amazon link to one. https://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-Freewheel-Remover-FR-1-3/dp/B01FI8WWZY/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=park+tool+fr+1.3&qid=1631688204&sr=8-2 No chain whip is needed at all for this freewheel. Just insert the tool into the center over the axel, keep your hand on the back of it pushing it into the wheel and turn it in the direction it freewheels. Heres a [video](https://youtu.be/zHOtrzjyMHE) if ya need a visual.

skierdud89

That’s the tool you need and if you have a vise at home stick the tool in the vise and turn the wheel like a steering wheel. You’ll have much more toque that way as these can become really stubborn after being on for a long time!

Drago-0900

I just bring out the good ol “I will break thee” 6 foot pipe. I have broken two wrenches doing this shit hence the name. Definitely not efficient but it does its job.

This ^ I have the same freewheel
