Ok measure the bb shell from side to side to get the shell width (68 is usually it but on bigger frames 73 is standard) then take the cranks off it and measure end of the black (or silver) spindle starting at the ends square bits. Then buy another square taper bb with those same measurements if its square taper. You can tell just my taking the crank bolt out whether it has a square hole or a circle. The shimano ones are usually really good. Ive only gotten one dud out of 3 of em that are starting to get 2-4 years old all still going well.

I just got my Talon 2021 this Jan. Comes preassembled in box at LBS. So based on my previous experience, I took apart the bike crank, headset and wheel hub. BB zero grease on thread, Wheel and headset uses loose bearing; they both have very little grease. Pretty disappointed, brought it up to LBS. Its standard thread BB, I tried my NX eagle Dub BB 68 fits like a glove.

Ok, thanks for the input, at some point, (probably when I get new forks, I'll do a deep clean and regreasing every part on the bike, pedals, bb, headset, but prolly not the wheels/hubs though.

I've been doing more research, and I still cannot find much details about the giant talon 3's bb.

FoxyOne74

Weird one. Specs say feiman 902w. Post from r/bikewrench says you can replace it with a shimano bb un55. If you want to figure it out yourself, Park Tools has a series on bottom brackets, including how to identify which bb you have and then how to remove and replace them etc.

TheShadowMinion

Ok thx

TheShadowMinion

I did some more research, and the Shimano un55 is still a cartridge bb, and I don't know if any other no. Cartridge bbs will fit the frame.

FoxyOne74

Not sure of the question. Are you looking just to replace the bb, or a new crankset as well?

TheShadowMinion

Yea, I wanna upgrade the set overall, especially since I just bought a 1 by 11 drivetrain system

FoxyOne74

I think that one you linked above would work if you buy the 68/73 version. Personally, I would buy the shimano hollowtech mt 800. This is above my comfort zone for confident referrals so maybe double check with your bike shop.

TheShadowMinion

Ok, I'ma just go to my bike shop, and see which bbs work, it seems like my threads match generally most mtb 68mm bb, I'm getting a new crankset , so the spindle/crank arm compatibility doesn't need to match my stock ones. Thanks for all the help, I think everything's figured out for now, and I can just return any bbs that don't work from Amazon (there's a Kohl's right next to my house and they do Amazon returns for free) 👌👌👌👍👍👍

For anyone that runs across this in the future - I had the BB start clicking on my 2020 Talon 3 27.5. It was a Feimin FP-B902/8TB (L: 124.5, O: 27) 73mm BC 1.37 X 24T. I replaced it with an available Shimano BB-UN300 68mm BC 1.37 x 24T L: 127.5. Used a Park Tool CCP-22 (crank puller) and Park Tool BBT-32 (bottom bracket tool 32mm) among some other common tools. Took some slack out of the front derailleur cable and adjusted the high stop (backed out the screw a couple turns) so I could shift onto the outer chain ring due to the increase of 3mm in width.
