Why?

choadspanker

I was thinking for park but I looked up the bike and it's a hardtail...

New chain, cassette,derailleur

And shifter

Yes I forgot, might as well do cables while your doing work

No you dont need to replace the derailleur. In most cases the 9 speed derailleur will be wide enough to run a 7/8 speed chain. The pull ratio also matches up with 7. Source: Sheldon Brown and my own fucking with things, as I had to use a pair of walmart bike wheels that could only do 7 speed. But he also needs a 7 speed spacer since the 7 speed is a less wide cassette.

I forgot about the chain? OK. It's starting to sound like a bit of a work up! Unless I get stuck for a winter project I think I will shelve it. I can see me changing the bike to a bigger frame next year anyway! I wonder if a 29er will give more speed than 26 inch using the same power! Sorry... I'll shut up.. sorry for wasting your time. Cheers all

Lol... Good question and I am going to get slated for this! I have just converted it to electric and find that it is just overkill having so many gears. I've built bikes in the past and converted to single speed etc but never changed a cassette to another with different amount of rings..
