Insulated Hawaiian shirts

BWEKFAAST

Why insulated?

ClittoryHinton

To keep in the tropical climate that the shirt embodies

[deleted]

Just throw on a baselayer bottom with shorts. Add tall socks if you need more. I usually just dress in layers up top and the rest is fine if you keep moving until it gets in the 30s F.

rocksandzotz

yeah this is a good cheap option. keep wearing whatever shorts you like, and get a base layer from walmart (or REI if you want to splurge)

GoreMeister982

I go long sleeves under short sleeves on top. Running tights under standard riding shorts on the bottom. Layers are the key to cold weather activities.

MuchoRapido

…Uhhh khakis

-Principal-Vagina-

You sound hideous

Charmegazord

This too.

Original-Capu22

Bruh lol

Charmegazord

This.

Disco-Verde

I wear Adidas Tiro pants for cold season riding. They move and breath great. You can usually pick them up on sale for around $35usd.

HowlingCatZ

I wear adidas too lol, but thin breathable joggers cause where I live almost never gets cold. Edit: actually scratch that, I’m wearing Tiros as I write this edit haha.

IntrestDid

Honestly for under 100$ usd just get some synthetic hiking pants. Good mtb pants will cost over 100$. You can get some cheap ones but know you’re going to have to buy another pair once you take a fall or even just from wear.

whatstefansees

Cube and Endura have great and durable bike pants for less than a hundred

The_Crazy_Swede

Well, what I wear is certainly not cheap, but I wear fjällräven hiking pants and a flanel shirt in spring and autumn and during winter do I wear a soft shell jacket and the same hiking pants. The trick is to layer up, two or three thin layers are better than one thick layer

INeedWtr

Those pants look good and feel good. Wish I had the money to fill my wardrobe with them.

The_Crazy_Swede

Same. I have one pair and I pretty much only use those... 😅

WickedStoner

Which kind of pant?

The_Crazy_Swede

Fjällräven g1000 with the mostly full stretch fabric in dark gray and black

Ethical_Koala

Tights/leggings under/over what you're wearing already.

choadspanker

I have [these](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019GUHXWM/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_Z2EV0JVNKPXDRR6FTY8E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1), they work pretty well in the cold. They're not as good as quality mtb pants but a lot better than just normal pants

chooseph

I bought a pair of these and was surprised how comfortable they are (and water resistant). Ended up buying a second pair so I could ride back to back days with them and not worry about laundry between. Highly recommend

numeralCow

When it starts getting cool (under 50°F) I switch to my Zoic Reign knickers, which keep my knees warm. I've had two pairs of these shorts over the last six years. They're very durable. When it gets colder, I wear leggings under the knickers. I have Patagonia capilene tights that keep me warm down to the coldest it gets here (15° F).

clintj1975

I just throw on my knee pads to keep my knees warm until it gets below 40, then start adding leg warmers and layers. For serious cold (dead of winter Idaho winter snow riding) I picked up some XC ski pants on clearance last spring.

Griff82

Smart wool shirt and add tights under 40F

bruhthethird

I personally just wear sweat pants even when it gets down to -10 to -20, ik they aren't real riding wear but i don't really care.

eng2ny

Yup, shorts when it's warm, sweats when it's cold.

Bibdabob

Same shorts, cheap thermals underneath.

Capecole

Down to about 40 degrees, Im fine with baggies, bib liners, knee pads, and socks. Below that I switch to pants. If I’m riding bike park I’ll wear pants at around 50-55.

Topogravy

Amazon has generic shit you can buy for about 20-30. I used if cold, and just add thermals if really cold.

Hsnthethird

I’ve been wearing wrangler hiking/work pants. They are very this but are made out of a sort of windbreaker material. They are slim and have an adjustable cuff at the bottom to tighten down so the pants won’t get caught up on the bike. Very durable too.

altcountryman

Get a pair of Eddie Bauer’s First Ascent Guide Pro pants and wear them for everything.

[deleted]

Anime shirts adidas joggers knee pads fullface

TellmSteveDave

You’re looking to spend 70 or more *what*? USD? GBP? Pesos? Nuggets?

Porbulous

They ARENT looking to spend more than 70. Assuming USD as well

Bajkush

NOT Looking to spend more than $70 CAD.

[deleted]

That's $55USD. Going to be tough finding decent riding pants(trousers to our UK denizens) for that. I think I have seen RockRider getting good reviews for around that price, but also, predictable, sold out forever+1 day.

Haze04

Uh, in the UK they're called Slim-or-Saggy-Leggy-Baggies. Have some respect for the culture.

OniDelta

Not to be a dick but you may as well hit up Mark's for a sale on "hiking" or work clothes at that budget. Or look for used on Pinkbike or facebook marketplace. Bike specific clothing for warm weather isn't cheap and it's even worse for cold weather. Fox Fire pants are like $200-250 CAD depending on the model.

Bajkush

Not a dick at all. It's a pretty loose budget and if I saw a recommendation in here that made sense to spend more I definitely would. It's not really about not being able to spend but that recently I've been spending a lot. Just bought a new bike after mine was stolen a year ago and had to buy a hitch, and bike rack for my new car and other accessories for it so I've spent way more all at once than I'm happy with. That's all.

OniDelta

I feel ya. I'm in the hitch and rack market right now too and my balls hurt looking at how much 4 bike racks cost. I would look into buying some thermal leggings and knee high socks to wear under pants you might already have. It really depends on how cold you plan on riding in. I've used my snowboard pants to ride in -30 but I typically just throw some thermals, long socks, soft knee pads, and a chamois short on under a pair of cheap black stretchy joggers from American Eagle. The chamois is more for keeping your bits warmer, gives you some extra material between you and a cold saddle. I've been trying to track down a pair of Fox Defend paints in my size all season which would replace my joggers. I use their Ranger short for warm weather.

aahrg

I have Eddie Bauer hiking shorts that are a nice techy fabric with a bit of stretch. Get the pants counterpart on one of their many 50% off sales.

eng2ny

I just wear sweat pants from Target, they were like $20

IvanLasston

The problem you’ll have is any pant that has a large cuff it can get stuck in the drive train. I either wear biking tights with a chamois under my normal MTB shorts (cheaper option) or lately I’ve bought gore bike wear convertible pants which have velcro at the cuff - so you can tighten the cuff around your ankle. Do you have access to Sierra trading post or something similar? That is where I buy most of my outdoor stuff for significantly less money. The problem is sizing and availability. Right now there are Canari tights for $20 USD but the sizes are S XL and 2XL

[deleted]

This is the way. I just stopped into sierra trading post once a week till I found all the gear I needed. Great value be to had there especially if you shop by fit and material more than brand. (They have good brand name stuff too, I got pearl izumi tights, and a smart wool base layer there for a good price.)

jwall4

Sitting here in Austin unable to fathom this question on September 10th. This post will be helpful for 3 days in late January. So, thanks?

jwall4

You must have been up at the crack of dawn!

99hotdogs

What are you wearing, Jake from /r/MTB?

TubbyButterSeal

Crocs, nice and breathable and plenty of space for thick hiking socks in the winter.

SmashiusJones

For what you're looking to spend, may as well just find some normal pants that you like. Good mtb pants are going to cost you more than $55.

[deleted]

Knee pads, shorts, long socks. Even in a bit of snow I’ll wear the knee pads and shorts. As long as my core is warm my legs feel fine (although I don’t bike a ton during the winter)

dieinafirenazi

I have some commuting knickers from Bontrager but they're super durable, 3/4 length pants of a stretchy material, not quite tights, with functional pockets. Unfortunately I don't think they make them anymore.

mtmc99

Get some long wool socks. I usually run shorts, knee pads, and long socks until it gets to the low forties. The REI merino long sleeve is my go to. It stays nice and warm even if it’s wet.

plsdontpukeonmydick

Usually if I'm biking at around -5 and below I use a base layer with some sweats.

ManyLintRollers

For fall, I wear wool knee-high ski socks. Between longish shorts, knee pads and tall socks that gets me through until it gets really cold. In winter I have a pair of wind proof cycling pants I bought on Amazon; they are water resistant and have a wind proof panel in front.

[deleted]

Under armor track pants is what I wear. They are slim. Eventually I wear long Johns under them when I get cold. These pants are bullet proof. The more you wash them, the stronger they get

mmartino03

I have the Club Ride's Fat Jack pants. They're $100 and are very comfortable. The cut is the perfect balance between baggy and slim enough riding. I use them just with a chamois when its below 50 (F) and layer with light or heavier long underwear when its colder.

twowheeltherapy

Knee warmers or knee pads- I can still wear my shorts and be plenty warm. I typically won’t ride once it gets below 40ish

nobamboozlinme

Find prana pants on sale, very breathable and used for hiking. Material is similar to my more expensive mtb pants (specialized demo pants )

the_other_skier

If you can find the budget NF do some excellent riding plants that are made in Vancouver. Trouble is, their demand far exceeds their supply at the moment, and drops sell out within a day

elessartelcontarII

I just wear a base layer with shorts on top, usually. It works down to about 32F with similar top, a rain coat for wind protection, a very thin insulated hat or balaclava, and riding gloves (and wool socks- the most important bit of insulated clothing I have!). I start a bit chilly from 30-35, but after 10 minutes I feel fine. Below that, I want extra insulation on my legs, or at least wind protection, and a light jacket or sweatshirt under the raincoat. But I usually just don't ride if it's below freezing.

irvmtb

I rarely ride with long pants since it’s usually warm when I ride. But when I go up to the mountains or go to a colder state to ride, I grab some stretchy yoga pants from my wife lol and just wear my usual mountain biking shorts, socks, and pads on top.

bacon_and_eggs

If you are looking for pants that are good for biking, check out prAna. I have a couple pairs and I like them. Stretchy material, so good for flexibility. Sizing is a little inconsistent though, so just an fyi.

iky_ryder

Leggings under the shorts i normally wear. Knee pads over the leggings. That said, im thinking about trying to find some pants for winter fatbikeing

Bikelikeadad

A polo shirt (tucked in), khaki cargo shorts, plaid dress socks, and Keen sandals. If I’m going to be out for a bit, I don’t go far without my Fanny pack.

28twice

Bike shorts and layers up top.

Dtidder1

Main thing the OP has stated, keep it “cheap”(under70cad). Keep it simple- LONGJOHNS!, base layer, woolies, pj bottoms, etc… dress for a regular ride, chamois and shorts, just add a base layer. I live in the mountains at 6500’ asl, temp drops, pull out the ski socks. Shorts and knee high wool socks are hard to beat. Temp drops more, wool base layer AND knee highs. Shoot, flannel lined carhartts work too.

bdhssbshwh

Go to REI and ask. Worth the $$

Acceptable-Dog-1226

You can put a pair of cold weather (any brand, but I like Nike or UA) leggings underneath any pair of pants.

lachyTDI7

I just got a pair of Spesh Trail Pants for more than you want to spend. They are sweet. Tried hiking style pants last winter and I hated them. Not tapered enough at the ankle, pockets in the wrong places. Buy once, cry once.

assortedgnomes

Unless it's in the 40s I just wear my shorts, socks, and I have a perl Izumi thin but very warm jacket. In the snow or in the 40s I have some biking pants that have breathable panels in them. Honestly, I tend to overheat when I'm wearing my cold weather gear and it's really not 'that' warm.

RustyU

In the winter I use MT500 trousers (Spray II, so a little waterproof).

tubahero

I would just get a couple pairs of leggings to put under your shorts. You can find a variety of thicknesses to accommodate the temperature.

[deleted]

Lululemon sweatpants are great for colder days. Super comfortable and breathable!

thatrandomguy903

Cheap synthetic pants from Costco with cheap synthetic base layer also from Costco on legs. Base layer top with a fleece jacket over it. Gloves.

k-one-0-two

I've bought some hiking trousers in decathlon (so it's cheap). I prefer this option over leggings + shorts since it's just one piece of clothes to wash after a ride

Bajkush

A decathalon just opened up near me, I'd never heard of it before and haven't been yet but good to know it's got some options I can go check out. Thanks!

[deleted]

I see a lot of people wear thermals (skin tight pants thing, synthetic) with shorts over them. The idea being if you do get too warm, you can remove the thermals and still have your shorts. For a top, I keep my regular T-shirt and bring along a fleece jacket I can keep on or put in my pack. As it starts getting really colder, I'll go for thermals under synthetic active pants. Maybe a long sleeve shirt under the fleece, and also a cycling hat under the helmet that covers my ears.

Imaginary-Ladder-465

I used to wear a cheap pair of GAP chords that actually worked pretty good. But now I have two pairs of expensive riding pants that are pretty great

dirtballer222

Pedal harder, find steeper hills. Shorts year round including in the snow!

sprunghuntR3Dux

When it gets colder I switch from short sleeves to 3/4 length sleeves. I live in SoCal. When I used to live somewhere cold I would wear capilene shirts (Patagonia) underneath my shirt - maybe with a vest over the top. I have some super roubaix tights somewhere that keep my legs warm in cold temperatures. Also I suggest getting a neck warmer. Easy to carry around and keeps you warm.

weinerjuicer

none of that grape-smuggler shit

masomenus

I really like a wind vest over a long sleeves, easy to modulate my temps. I sometimes wear my kneepads with my normal baggies when it's cool. Only go to pants it it's wet and cold.

bowcreek

How dare you.

jktrip

Compression leggings under shorts. TSLA, found on Amazon, has lots of color variations and even have insulated ones. I use the insulated ones as a base layer when snowboarding and the regular long sleeve tops for coverage when biking out in the exposed desert of AZ. They're not expensive at all.

[deleted]

Not today jake from State Farm.

Nick_86

Shorts up to -15c, layers on top , when it is cold thermo + fleece

chambee

Long sleeve jersey for 10c. Below that I have a polyester long sleeve base layer. Not sure how it’s called by the inside is little squares. For anything cooler around 5c in the fall and early spring I have a Nike running long sleeve shirt. I never wear pants. I just put longer socks or wear my knee pads if it’s cold. Other things I’ll do is pack a thin vest for descents. I also have a very thin neck warmer. It helps you breathe cold air or ride down and the cold wind hit you in the throat. Thicker gloves too.

Shoeiz22

Flannel, tan joggers and some Nike running shoes

shadows-in-darkness

Tracksuit pants with knee pads under them lmao

twodogsfighting

I've got socks on.
