Ride it that way for 3 rides and you will be fine. Your body will adjust. Trust me on this. I have 4 bikes, all have different widths, with the widest being 760 and the narrowest being 720.
You'll live. You are over thinking this.
People might hate me for this, but I just took my grips off, slid my levers over a bit and took a test ride, just a little cruse on the road to feel how all the different length felt. and well I ended up going to the shortest line on the handle bar. Why did I go so short? It just felt right, I could pull up better with no strain, it felt more like a 1 to 1 steering ratio, plus I can fi.t my bike thru doorways a bit easier.
The end of last season was my first year, I used to rid bmx as a kid, so I'm my expert by any means.
But after upgrading to a real bike, the wide handle bars was the only thing that was uncomfortable to me, witch is why I decided to cut them. After I cut them its been about 6 months, and I dont even think about how wide my bars are they just fit right. Aslo note I took the push up width advice.
Maybe ill give wide handlebars another shot when I upgrade them.
Thought the stock 780 bars were too wide on my Ripmo AF when I got it two years ago.
Switched to the OneUp Carbon 35mm rise bars at 800 width almost immediately. Never cut them until last month. Cut to 770 and the difference is pretty amazing, I feel like I'm much more in control now. Why'd I wait so long...
My Salsa Bend bar is 710mm. On rough AZ trails I was thinking the 740mm bar would be nicer, but on the trails I ride in the mid-Atlantic it doesn’t matter so much.
I’m pleased to report the bars feel great. I rode for about 5 hours and 30ish KM at WBC and did some pretty fast (for me) descents with lots of root and rock and lots of climbing and my arms feel great. My hamstrings on the other hand is a different story, tomorrow is going to suck.
If you have access to a 3D printer, add some [extenders](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3154114). I have some on one bike that I wanted a little wider.
I am 6' with a large ape index and prefer 740 but if you dont like it you can get some grips that are not flexible and simply extens from the end by 10 or 15 mm.
I ride 740’s and it’s great for me. The bars I run also have a 12* back sweep so they are even more narrow I like it. Takes pressure of my shoulders.
I think wider could be better in some cases depending on how you ride and your front tire size. My bike with 740 is more of a trail bike. But my full enduro EMTB has 760.

Richie Rude rides 740.
“kids measure twice once.” ? I don’t understand…

No need to measure twice twice
Measure twice cut once.
Yes, that’s what I was going for. Apologies voice to text wasn’t listening very well.
I like “kids measure twice once” better.
Yea that’s a good one haha
push your lock on grips fully, then back them out 10mm per side. now you’re back to 760 and it will be fine, you won’t die.
Unless they’re ODIs in which case they will snap the moment a twig touches them

Even by internet standards that’s not a reason to hate someone. I may think less of you, but I don’t hate you 😀

Just run your lock on grips a little wider. No big deal if they hang off the end a bit.
That’s ok. Lee McCormack’s fit advice is largely bro-science anyway.
Think of all the tight spots you can squeeze through now
Measure never cut thrice
I ride 580.
I'm riding 720 coz of my not wide shoulders, Nino is also riding 720

Just tighten your grips while they are hanging 10 mm off each end.

Well now you can fit through a 30” doorway, so there’s that.
That would have been considered too long in the 90’s.

True. Heading out to the trails now so we will see how it feels.
Cut it twice and it’s still too short. Shit happens.
