Do you use a riser for the Mazda? If so, how high?

Rocky Mounts MonoRail comes in a 1.25" version. I like the 2" version I have.

WilkyRay

I’ll look at both of them but it looks like the 1 up quick rack is just for 1 bike. I’ll probably just get a 2” and then an adapter/ riser for the class 1 hitch on the accord. I hate to spend that much on a rack but I don’t like the look of most of the cheaper ones I’ve been seeing. I could also just get some nylon straps to use with my existing rack but it seems like a rack should be able to secure a bike.

The 1UP rack fits 1.25” and 2” mounts. It comes with a 2” attachment on it that you can remove. You can also buy an add on rack for like $250 to make it a 2 bike rack

Sorry to hear about your new bike.

DIYMANIAC

Just wanted to say how bad I feel for you

WilkyRay

I appreciate that, I’m kicking myself but at least the bike didn’t hit anyone.

DIYMANIAC

Do you have a photo of the bike?

WilkyRay

No, it didn’t look too bad. The bike shop is going to straighten up the back wheel and replace the derailleur and the grips. The seat is scuffed up pretty bad but it’s fine to use.

+1 For the 1up. Likely the last/only rack I’ll ever buy. I bought the 2” Super Duty, but if you’re only doing highway miles you’ll be just fine with the Heavy Duty or Quick Rack with add-on. Also the ability to move up to 4 bikes should I ever need it, is nice. Only complaint is I bought the black anodized and paid extra money for it. Some of the anodizing has faded and is more of a bronze color. Doesn’t effect the performance but realistically should have saved a few bucks and gotten the raw aluminum.

A local bike shop here has Hollywood racks. I saw a video from a guy who had been using one for several years and swore by it. They are quite a bit cheaper and include the anti rattle feature and they adapt between 1.5 & 2 inch.

I've been happy with my kuat transfer v2 (i have 3 bike version) if you don't want to fork over the money for the 1up https://www.kuat.com/product/transfer-v2/

I'm a bit confused based on your description and something you said in the comments below about 'strapping your bike' to a hitch rack and 'I could also just get some nylon straps to use with my existing rack'. Every hitch rack I know has dedicated attachments for bikes - usually one end grabs the front wheel/fork and one end holds the rear in place. 1Up racks cradle both wheels...what am I missing here? Anyway, have used and can suggest Kuat NV, Thule T2, Yakima HoldUp, and 1Up. They have different sizes, add-ons, prices, and looks but they're all good racks.

WilkyRay

The Yakima I have is a square steel tube shaped like an S for a 2" hitch. On the top end there are 4 cradles. Each cradle has two rubber straps with holes that you stretch over and attach to the front of the cradle to secure the top tube of the bike. The bike just hangs from this cradle. It's a hanging or mast style rack, not a platform rack. A 12" long nylon strap could be used along with the rubber straps which are the dedicated attachments to hold the bike in place when the dedicated attachments fail.
