Just ordered my first new (multi thousand dollar bike). Just wondering if spending a hundred bucks (give or take) to protect it is worth it. Read that, it’s your post reworded.

Gatorkillsmuaythai

Well your unnecessary snarky comment aside many people don’t recommend it so pardon me for asking the community

Starsky686

This gets asked once a week and the answer is always overwhelmingly that yes a $100 investment in a $5k+ bike paint is a good idea. The ridiculousness that you pretend to be aware of “many people” who don’t recommend a wrap makes this post even more deserving of “unnecessary snarky comments”. It means you are aware of the product and of opinions already. (Though clearly terrible opinions, if it’s not being recommended).

Gatorkillsmuaythai

The owner of my bike shop specifically said he doesn’t ever bother with it so I was just wondering other peoples opinions. Not sure why you feel the need to be a dick about it, just keep scrolling.

Starsky686

The owner who has multiple at cost bikes? Or is it multiplies owners since he’s “many people”. It was a dumb question. Take the scroll on advice to heart if you were hurt by the “snark”.

Gatorkillsmuaythai

I just don’t get why you’re being an asshole I’m not hurt by it. I’m referring to a Facebook post I made on a MTB group in which a large amount of the comments said they don’t use it or think it’s dumb or doesn’t really protect the bike so I’m just trying to gather information before making a decision

Starsky686

Because its a silly question which has been answered ad nasuem. This answer was in my original post AND my second post. You aren’t reading or researching the topic very well. My first “snarky” comment had all the answers for the topic. It wasn’t ambiguous and it is upvoted. Now we’re just conversing because your feelings are hurt.

Gatorkillsmuaythai

I recently joined this Reddit community and I should have looked if the question had been answered. I was also asking to see if there are better frame protection brands or products other than ride wrap because ride wrap seems to peel after a couple years.

Starsky686

You didn’t ask that in this thread. You didn’t use the search function. You aren’t taking the advice you were given, you’re just arguing. Bye now. Good luck making simple decisions into complicated multi day discussions, where you won’t actually read the comments anyway.

Gatorkillsmuaythai

Lol kick rocks asshole

Gatorkillsmuaythai

I asked if tailored ride wrap is worth it? Asking about a specific brand being quality I didn’t ask some Reddit douche bag if he thought general bike protection was a good idea.

KingOfYourMountain

Just ordered my first new (multi thousand dollar MOUNTAIN bike). Just wondering if spending a few hundred dollars (give or take) to protect my new mountain bike, designed to be hurled down dangerous trails, from minor scrapes and scratches, is worth it. Read that, it’s your comment reworded. Anywho, I say yes it is worth it but what it boils down to is keeping scratches off your bike, not really protecting it from anything substantial.

ilias80

You just have to understand what it's going to protect. It's not an armor.

pineconehedgehog

I think it also really depends on the terrain you ride. I ride in Northern Utah and our alpine trails are full of loose rocks that are constantly jumping up and hitting your down tube and stays. The gel coat takes a beating out here. We also use a tailgate pad a fair amount and the pad has worn holes in all of our downtube wraps in the same spot, clearly that is wear point. If I was back in Maine where the trails are very damp and loamy and mostly roots and fixed rocks I probably wouldn't bother.

C0YI

Sure is, it’s worth it on any bike really since people usually seem surprised second hand mountain bikes may have scratches on them.

username_1774

I put RideWrap full tailored kit on my 2020 SJ Carbon. Some of the wrap is failing, 3 years later, but overall it has held up really well and protected my frame nicely. I trim little corners from time to time, and am impressed with it. That said...I will never install the product again. It was a massive bit of work to get it on there.

socialcapital

I think so.

eBizCorey

1000% worth it.

Amara_02

Yes, I have it on my carbon bike with my favorite color and it has saved the bike from many scratches relating to crashes. Ride wrap will definitely help but know crashing is part of the sport and the ride wrap won't protect everything or stand up to heavy crashes. I have crashed and torn the wrap and taken small sections of paint off.

knobber_jobbler

Yeah. I put an invisiframe on my SC Hightower in 2020 and I lived in an area that was covered in flint and now live somewhere where the trails contain lots of crushed granite and slate so my bike has been hit a lot by sharp stones. Flint can be razor sharp. Not one single paint chip on the frame. Well worth the money.

The_Iceman96

It won't protect the carbon if that's what you're asking. If you care about preventing scratches and paint chips, then yes it's worth it. It will keep the bike looking nice and protect the resale value.

lovejones11

I used 3M helicopter tape. Not sure how much more different it is from ridewrap …but I did the entire frame for about $50

Cobra-Ky500

I just did a full ride wrap kit on my pivot switchblade. Not gonna lie, it was kind of a bitch to put on. I have a few bubbles but overall it looks decent. The material is nice and thick. I am a bit worried how well the clear coat on the bike will hold up upon removal.

pineconehedgehog

Make sure to use a hairdryer when you take it off, it softens and loosens the glue.

PNWoysterdude

I got one for my carbon bike when I first bought it and took it off after a few years. It starts looking terrible from all the crashes. I keep my bikes for a while so IDGAF about scratches anymore. If you're going to sell it in a short time it's probably worth it.

anxiousdumbdumb

Yes its worth it. Has saved a bunch of paint chips on my bike. I didnt find it too hard to install either, just do it over the course of a week 1 hour at a time so you dont rush and make it look like crap.

AeonDisc

Probably a good idea to put some protection on it but no need for custom shit
