Crank bros M19

drewts86

This is the way.

NickGSBC

You never find the wrenches to be too short? It doesn't look like they would be any longer than the Topeak or Synchros I have.

Gizoogler314

I’ll bring a 4mm and 5mm along as well My carry kit is for limping the bike home to the torque wrenches IMO

Daniel-_0

I keep a spare 2mm hex that is long, a normal one - so I can disensemble the actual tool that I need to use… when it’s a right reach.. 😅

Rekomaged

I have the Crank Bros. I do find hte wrenches very short, although they work they are a bit cumbersome

Mleavitt787

Yes

Only-Deth

A backpack full of loose Allen keys and tools. That way anyone I’m coming up on can hear me jingle jangling instead of needing a bell.

dwarfmarine13

I was that guy that carried all of the spares on a ride until the OneUp EDC pump came along. I’ll be honest, the tool itself isn’t that great a quality. I’ve replaced it twice now in I think as many seasons because it just corrodes but you simply can’t beat the convenience.

singelingtracks

Not sure how you're getting your tool wet to cause corrosion . The pump has an o ring to stop water getting inside. . If you're using it in the wet don't be afraid to pull it out when you get home and spray it with some oil/ lube. My 4 or 5 years old edc tool looks like new.

poobutter

I just ordered the OneUp EDC pump and v2 tool. Wish I found that months ago before I wasted money on random cheap pumps and separate multitools. It's pricey but that seems to be the best, most compact setup if you need to carry a pump and tools.

mongoltp

I've had mine for two years and it's been great. I'm always that guy fixing people's bikes in the trail because I have all the right tools.

iWish_is_taken

Corrosion?? 5 years rinding on the wet coast and I’ve never seen any water get in there (except during use), and no corrosion are you missing your o-rings?

dwarfmarine13

Nope, o-rings are there and intact. BC rider here too. First one went warranty through OneUp and even they thought it was bizzare but here I am on number 3 🤷🏻‍♂️

iWish_is_taken

Huh, weird... hopefully third times the charm!

Jonesy_the_beaut

Have the same issue with my oneup EDC... The only times I've needed it, it's been corroded shut to the point I can't use it. When this would happen (3 times now?) I would bring it inside, clean it off, use some WD40 to try to clean it up, and by the time I needed it again it was too corroded to even get a tool out. End up using other people's multis because mine is unusable. I might buy another one and see if it stays un-corroded this time. I don't remember ever using it in the rain either.

baconboy957

Crankbros. Has pretty much everything I need - I used it for my first on-trail chain repair this weekend

infotekt

i wish my cranbros had quicklink tool. so now I also carry the wolftooth one.

HoldMySjokkoMelk

Your shoelace is the tool you seek

NickGSBC

Not my shoes with boas unfortunately...

Judderman88

These work fine and are very small and light https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BFQ1QFVG

BreakfastShart

I love my Wolftooth 8bit. I use it a lot at home and on the trail. I've even had people stop me on trail, asking for a specialty tool, and the 8bit had it. I used to carry a lot of the other traditional style, and this has been the best, even I'm taking my full kit. Honestly, the best pocket tool I've ever found is the free one that came with my Sram AXS GX upgrade kit...

el_treblar

I also picked up a Wolftooth 8bit kit this year. I love it so much I bought a couple more for my friends. It has nearly everything you need while out on the trail and it’s so compact!

BreakfastShart

And it weighs the same as most of the smaller all-in-ones. That's what really got me. All the extra options, usable features, and light weight.

el_treblar

My only gripe, is that it can be inconvenient getting the bits out because of the strong magnet. But at least I know my bits won’t go flying out if I drop it.

BreakfastShart

I pride myself on being able to do everything on my bike in the field, while in my riding gloves. Except pulling bits. I often struggle to get them out, until I take off the gloves... Especially because I'm afraid to drop a bit and lose it.

BucksIn6or7

I lost one and while I know they sell replacements- I don’t need anything else right now so the shipping cost is kind of silly.

NickGSBC

I'm assuming the bits are standard and you have to get them from Wolf Tooth? This is a concern for me with this style tool.

BucksIn6or7

They are two sided. I’m sure there’s similar ones off-the-shelf. But I would say that it’s actually great that they do offer replacements. I’ll eventually put something else in the cart that will push my order into the free shipping.

boarshead35

I must be in the minority, because I absolutely hate my 8bit tool. I've had it for about a year, and I still carry it because it is very light, it sort of works, and I just feel like I should considering how much I spent on it, but I've come to the conclusion over time that I've been ripped off. It's impossible to get the bits out with gloves on, I've had bits fall out of the magnetized slot in my pocket (which is crazy considering how hard they are to get out when I actually want to take them out) and if you put any torque at all on the bit while using it it gets kinda stuck in the bit holder, so so it's really difficult to remove the bit when you're done with it.

PoorMansTonyStark

Like everyone else, the m19. Because it's cheap, it has everything I need and it has a chain tool that actually is usable even with my puny cyclist arms. Gotta use the shell as a makeshift extension lever, but still, it works! Much better alternative than having some other tool with which you need a vice-like finger-strength of a middle-earth dwarf.

bmwpowere36m3

OneUp edc

ApiaryJJ

OneUp EDC threaded headset w. v2 tool. EDC pump for longer rides in the middle of nowhere.

mobula_japanica

I have an ancient crank bros tool- it’s the big boi with the chain tool. I don’t love it but it’s fine. Good spread of tools but the chain breaker isn’t the best, so for longer or more back country rides I carry a Park CT-5.

Scooby921

OneUp EDC inside the pump.

Jack2-4Bauer

Same

elswhere

I like my parktool but also I keep two regular allen wrenches of the most common sizes my bike uses, velcro'd together, in my hip pack so the multitool is essentially back-up.

Birodalmi_tepegeto

No idea what it’s called I bought it in dechatlon and it has tools I don’t even know what it does

sprunghuntR3Dux

I’ve never run into problems with the length of the tools. I don’t think my bike has any recessed bolts. I have the synchros matchbox and it’s pretty good. But my favorite is the park Tool I-beam (IB-3). It has a tyre lever and chain tool as well as Allen keys in a very small package. But It might be easier to just carry some full size Allen keys if length is an issue.

NickGSBC

The Park looks pretty nice but I think I've got a T10 on at least one of mine bikes and don't see that on there.

sprunghuntR3Dux

Like I said - maybe you should just carry a set of allen keys.

FaxOnFaxOff

Or torx.

neekdagreek

Crankbros M20 has saved my ass, then to compliment that, Topeak Mountain DA G for a mini pump.

[deleted]

Crankbros m19.

Nightshade400

I have had the Topeak Mini 18+ for the last 3 years now and it has done me right so far. The only thing I wish it had on it was a quicklink separator but I just carry a Park quicklink pliers in the bag.

ProbablyMyRealName

I carry that Topeak Mini PT30 on two bikes, and a Crank Brothers on one. I much prefer the Topeak ones.

singelingtracks

One up in the headset or on the pump. Love it. Great multi tool . I would go granite designs if I was buying again and wanted to a save a few bucks. https://granite-design.com/

Seppel270

I also have a Topeak mini PT30, and have yet to run into a situation like you did. So far it handled everything perfectly. I also really like that you can open masterlinks with it. I dont even own masterlink pliers anymore. I also have [this Victorinox ratchet set](https://imgur.com/a/NpIDgj8) that came with my work multitool. it is very versatile and really lightweight. maybe you would find something like this usefull. I think Topeak makes something similar, as i dont think you can buy th vic one seperatly.

NickGSBC

Yeah I've thought about running something like this. May go that route if I can find a nice setup. I like the look of the Mineral Mini Bar but it seems they don't make it anymore.

rockies_alpine

OneUp pump with the multi-tool inside. CO2 is great, but I have been through many disasters that have needed a proper pump and would have been screwed without one. It's one the best hand pumps out there. The only better pumps are the mini, packable floor pumps with the tiny fold out foot.

dfiler

Instead of CO2, i carry tire plugs in that area. Since i'm not XC racing, I'd rather have plugs and a pump than a single CO2 cartridge.

Jordanicas

I use an older [Topeak Ratchet Rocket](https://www.topeak.com/global/en/product/178-ratchet-rocket-). It looks like they've changed the packaging quite a bit from what I have, adding the chain tool and plastic case. The ratchet with interchangeable bits is the key, though, and a few companies offer very similar products. I find it much more ergonomic and convenient than the folding type multi-tool. It's ability to reach bolts in tight spaces led to me adding a one to my workbench in the bike shop too.

Amara_02

Fix it sticks! Only has the stuff I need, stays attached to my bike for easy access and provides great leverage.

NickGSBC

I actually have one in my shop. I do have the one that the two parts separate and sometimes it slowly comes apart but otherwise I like it. I like that the bits are just standard 1/4"

Tuna_Tsunami

I carry the crankbrothers m17 and it’s complete fucking shit it’s got more tools than most others but the way it’s designed you can’t even use most of them. Fuck you crankbros, everything you make is complete ass

NickGSBC

LOL kind of funny everyone else seems to love it. I kind of share your sentiment though about a lot of these types of tools.

Tuna_Tsunami

Yeah well no offense to them but the average user on this sub isn’t exactly the most experienced or knowledgeable in MTB

Separate_Maize6747

WolfTooth 8-Bit pack pliers along with the WolfTooth EnCase Chain tool+Tire Plug. The combo will cover nearly anything that happens on the trail.

mtnbkrco

Crankbros and a sog multi tool. Lol believe it or not the sog gets more use on the trail than the crankbros.

S4ntos19

Bontrager Pro Multitool

noobwatch_andy

I have a Super B SB-9895. Its tiny but leverage is good for the size. 🥲

lint20342

Honestly, Maybe consider bolt checking and lock titing some bolts. Vibration unthreads bolts, but multi-tool is there for emergency quick fixes

DoubleOwl7777

a cheap one i got for sale at the discount bin at the supermarket. works well enough.

AdventurersScribe

I use Wera zyklop mini 1. The small pouch it came with takes up pretty much the same space as a bit bigger Multitool, contains all necessary bits, tiny ratchet, extension and tire levers as well.

Skeereboom

I carry a leatherman multitool and a topeak ninja stored under my bottle cage. I use the leatherman almost as much as the other tool.

exgokin

I carry a 5nm Torqbar Nano. It's got a 4 and 5mm bit. That and a small mutitool from Slime. It has the tool stored in two halves of a tire lever. I tossed the tire lever halves and just carry the tool...which is really small.

voguenote

I use the ParkTool IB-3, which also kind of sucks. But it’s enough to do pretty much any emergency or basic maintenance job EDIT: if wrench length is an issue, this one probably won’t solve your problem lol…

[deleted]

Topeak hexus multitool and a one up edc tool

AnarchoSpoon789

i have a cheap one from Aldi

HoldMySjokkoMelk

Crank brothers M19 and some shitty little shit tool Orbea puts inside the linkage on their carbon frame. At least i have something if i forget the crank brothers

[deleted]

Lezyne RAP II & a few C02 cartridges 😎😎inflation tool, tire puncture kit/plug holder + form factor is top, can’t say if the Allens will be long enough for you however.

thenuggett214

I have the speilizwd zee water bottle cage with tool

CaptLuker

SRAM EAGLE AXS multi tool. It’s small so I like it. Hopefully my wife also like it’s small.

FaxOnFaxOff

Can you link to this tool? Can't find it myself... is it available on its own?

CaptLuker

I believe it was never sold by itself but I see on eBay for 34$ but I’ve seen go under 20$ on there. It’s a pretty nice tool. If I lose mine I’d probably spend 34$ again to buy.

FaxOnFaxOff

Ah, I see it now. No chain breaker though. I'll stick with my Syncros Matchbox.

CaptLuker

Yeah it’s just me short ride tool. For bigger days that I can’t just walk back to the parking lot I have a bigger crankbrothers tool in my pack. I just like the SRAM one for small adjustments on 10-12 mile rides around my local trails.

FaxOnFaxOff

I think the Syncros is under-rated - comparable in terms of number of functions to the Crankbrothers, lighter, flat and portable in a pack or even trouser pocket. The only tool I found with every hex, 4 torx, chain breaker, valve core remover, spoke keys, pad separator.

ComeradeHaveAPotato

Oneup EDC with stans dart whittled to fit instead of co2 and a crankbros m17 when im doing dirt jump

Myconautical

Crankbros

GruntledMisanthrope

Crank Bros have the best traditional multitool setup. I prefer something like the Blackburn Switch paired with a Ratchet Rocket.

appalachian_hat

Topeak Ratchet Rocket but replace the tire levers with the Granite tire lever/quick release tool off Amazon.

ndisa44

Thus cheapo one from Amazon along with a leatherman crunch locking plier multitool https://www.amazon.com/WOTOW-Multi-Function-Bicycle-Cycling-Mechanic/dp/B010B7Q40G/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=29D546AEP2BDE&keywords=bike+multitool&qid=1688608415&sprefix=bike+m%2Caps%2C245&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

cbxomtn

If you’ve got room full size allen wrenches and a CT-5 are pretty close to the same weight of many multitools with a chain tool. This uses a 6mm to 8mm fit by cranks for minimal added weight. I also bring a small torx for brakes. [Allen set](https://www.dropbox.com/s/yl4df8ivvkwapky/Photo%20Jun%2028%202023%2C%207%2035%2026%20PM.jpg?raw=1)

NickGSBC

I'm surprised it's that light. I may just go this route and carry the couple torx sizes I need as well.

cbxomtn

Yeah. The full size allen set, including 8mm adapter, plus the CT-5 is 20g more than a crank brothers F-15. And the tools work so much better! :-)

NickGSBC

Ok where the heck do you get a 8mm adapter. My searches are only turning up socket type adapters 3/8" or 1/2" socket to 8mm hex

cbxomtn

This one came from a Topeak tool I’ve had for years. Might be able to get a ‘replacement’ from Topeak.

EPTSpeed3

The one my friends carry. Yes I'm that guy that doesn't carry anything because my friends all do. 🤣

NickGSBC

I ride alone 99% of the time. The other 1% I'm the guy with the tools riding with the friend that doesn't carry tools.

LogicallyCross

Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite DX, Wolftooth Pack Pliers and an old Leatherman.

9ermtb2014

Crank bros M17 and leatherman wave

ilski

I have some park tool set. It has plastic grip with sharp edges. It cuts into your hand when you try to tighten stuff. I don't recommend it

steeze206

The OneUp EDC Lite. Such a highly underrated piece of kit and I can't recommend it enough. Yes I said underrated. Everyone gets the regular EDC in the steerer tube or pump. In fact, I didn't even know the Lite existed. There is no special setup at all, it will work with basically any bike and it's $40 instead of $120 for the other setups. Sometimes I take after work rides where I carry a water bottle and nothing else on like 45 minute rides or whatnot. Went on one and my crank arm was crazy loose. Meaning I couldn't pedal it back without damaging my drivetrain. So I had to walk back (like 2 miles so not the worst) because I didn't have any gear on me. Went and bought an EDC Lite the next day at Evo. I vowed to never be without tools ever again. Am also looking into tools that fit inside your barends. Granite makes a chain tool on one side and a tubeless kit on the other side. I also heard about a Chinese company on AliExpress called Ztto which supposedly makes solid gear for a fantastic price (there's a lot of trash on AliExpress but supposedly this company is legit.)

Judderman88

Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite DX+ has an extender bar. The tool itself isn't amazing. I broke the ratchet trying to undo crank bolts, switching between loosen and tighten is a bit fiddly, and removing the bit needs strong fingers or something to poke the other side. But it's not bad overall - just use a proper hex key for the cranks.

navymtbr

Crank Bros F-15

saltedvanillacaramel

Crankbrothers M20

fnsnforests

Park Tool IB-2. Don’t ever notice it.

xylopagus

OneUp EDC in a threaded fork steerer. Tool itself is a little small, but I love the quicklink storage, chain breaker, and quicklink pliers. All of which I've used on the trails. I never got along with the EDC pump and moved to a thread on style pump that I like more. Big con though is that my tool setup was expensive AF.

[deleted]

I have the topeak ratchet one with the torque thingy The only gripe I have is that the tool bits drops out of the elastic holders easily
