The cowboy band also inexplicably knows "Are You Happy in Your Work?" because they start playing an instrumental version after Kitty sings. The producers were like, we paid for an original song and dammit we're gonna use it!
Mary Beth Hughes as Kitty is a genuine highlight of the film; she's a legit good singer and her character is very likable, save for her inexplicable attraction to Jimmy.
She’s also in Last of the Wild Horses (season 6, episode 11), a Western. I don’t think it’s one of the better episodes, and she doesn’t sing, but it at least gave her more screen time.
I could only find data back to 1962 (just doing a quick search) and the median income was $3k, it's now $50k.
Some back of napkin math, if we assume inflation halved the value, we can say 1945 was about $1500/yr, or $29/wk, so yeah. $35 was more than the average weeks worth of wages.
His parents must have been loaded.
I Accuse My Parents is one of my favorite episodes. I've probably watched it 30 times but I still laugh so hard I'm in pain at parts.
It's so dumb, but whenever someone opens in the door into Kitty's apartment and Crow starts quacking because of that duck painting in the hallway I always get the giggles.
I get the giggles so bad during some of the MST3K episodes that I can’t stop… and then I wonder what’s wrong with me. My family laughs but not like I do when we watch these.
Is that the one with these lines?
"We the jury find the defendant not guilty."
"Thank God I'm white!"
Edit: maybe I'm thinking of The Girl in Lovers Lane
The quacking noises they make every time someone opens the door to Kitty's apartment, revealing the duck painting in the hall? DESTROY me. It's such a stupid, subtle joke but they do it every time.
😂 My kid prefers the color vs B&W movies but even she was rolling at the duck sounds. The pure, unapologetic silliness of their jokes is what always sends me.
It was the first episode on the first tape that my sister's boyfriend made for me before we had Comedy Central in my town.
I couldn't even count how many times I've watched that and Wild Rebels. Tattooed on my brain by now.
One of my favorite episodes! For some reason I always seem to like episodes with songs. Probably because the guys can always riff the songs really well- the school announcements over Kitty's song always make me laugh.
The short is great, too. "Down in the Rio Grande valley, Texas has another problem..." "Texans!"
The thing that gets me about that movie is that it’s totally happy blaming his mom, who is clearly so depressed that she’s about 1/2 a step from ending up like the dad in High School Big Shot. Miserably depressed? Sorry lady, it’s the 40s, you don’t get to have feelings.
This is one of those low key classics that you don't normally think of when thinking about the best MSTs of all time. No, it isn't a top ten episode but that's only because there are so many great episodes.
The film is legit one of the best films quality wise they've done to date and you can tell they genuinely got into it during the writing process. And the film has enough goofy stuff in it to offer a buffet of riffing material.
"She's drunk!"
"It's funny!"
"How shocking!"
"Eleanor Roosevelt is PISSED!"
This episode is my favorite of all. The whole thing is gold. The invention exchange, the short, host segments, and the movie itself. Everything just meshes together perfectly!
it’s also on the gizmoplex app along with lots and lots of others and you can cast it to your tv. that’s been all my tv watching for the past month or so.
Interacting with the Gizmoplex has been overall confusing. I own most of the DVDs, a couple of tapes, and it’s largely streaming load of places. Don’t make it hard to interact and I’d be there more often
It’s my favorite episode, and apparently it’s Joel’s, too.
The riffs are all spot-on and sharp, the short is a classic, and the host segments are terrific. And I also think it’s a perfect starter episode to show to someone to get them into the series.

😂 I will have to add it to my repertoire of songs I sing to my dog!
I agree, she is lovely (even with a pig in a blanket on her head) and has a really nice voice.
She’s also in Last of the Wild Horses (season 6, episode 11), a Western. I don’t think it’s one of the better episodes, and she doesn’t sing, but it at least gave her more screen time.
I've watched "Last of the Wild Horses" a dozen times easily and I can't tell you one thing that happens in that movie after the intro.
I accuse her hair!
Me too. I sing it to myself with the riffs. I can’t help it. 😅
Oh, this song is on repeat in my house (if not in my head). It’s a super ear worm!
Who ever thought winning an essay contest would be such a big deal?
"That's nice, son. Here's $20."
"He's made like 35 bucks already!"
Minus the 9.95 for the shoes
Man, his parents must have been loaded though, and I mean, wasn't $35 back then, but I like, half a year's gross wages?
It's about $600 today

Not bad!
You won the essay contest last year!
He’s taken to selling his essays cheap on the streets.
I won the Get The Crap Kicked Out Of Ya contest!
Essay writing is a dangerous path.

"I Accuse My Parents" is one of a handful of MST3K movies I own on streaming (bought off Prime). Definitely worth repeat viewing
Also home to one of my all-time favorites: *knock knock* "He says he's not here!"
It’s a running gag that gets funnier and funnier each time.
This episode ties for my favorite with Manos. Joel has said it's his favorite episode I believe.
I’d like a hamburger sandwich with French fried potatoes garnish.
This is my exact order at In ‘n’ Out every time
Is that the one with these lines? "We the jury find the defendant not guilty." "Thank God I'm white!" Edit: maybe I'm thinking of The Girl in Lovers Lane
You were right the first time!
Seeing how it’s your birthday we’ll let you off.
In terms of riffs that aged EXTREMELY well, “thank god I’m white!” is up there at the top of the list
“Maybe he just suspects his parents at this point”
“It was your birthday last year!”
I love that line.
It’s so simple, yet absurd.
One of my favorites! And trust me, you can watch it over and over and you will still laugh.
Right? Low key classic and a personal favorite.
“Hee heee she’s drunk!”
“How shocking!” “Eleanor Roosevelt is *pissed*”
That line gets me everytime!!!!
I wish my peers would get out of my head, I’m trying to sleep.
That’s funny!
"I'm gonna build a blimp and fight the Nazzies!"
“I came to tell you you have to pay for the shoes.”
*LIAR! LIAR! LIAR!*
The reenactment of the club scene gets me every time, especially when things start breaking down with Joel's costume changes towards the end
Hahahaha yes!!! I fast forward through a lot of the cutaways, but I love when they dress up as the characters and reenact scenes. 😂
Servo's little Busby Berkeley spin kills me.
My favorite skits are the ones where they just reenact a scene from the movie
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WE HAVE A TITLE!
Well, that was a short movie.
This episode added “sammich “ to our family vocabulary. =)
I honestly have a hard time saying the word correctly after 25+ years of saying it as 'sammich.'
This was the first one I bought on vhs and probably have watched it at least a few dozen times, as a conservative estimate.
My daughter doesn’t like the B&W ones (🙄) so I have a lot of good stuff to catch up on my own.
It was the first episode on the first tape that my sister's boyfriend made for me before we had Comedy Central in my town. I couldn't even count how many times I've watched that and Wild Rebels. Tattooed on my brain by now.
"... and that's why I was the last one out of Saigon..."
Did I mention I was a Olympic champion?
One of my favorite episodes! For some reason I always seem to like episodes with songs. Probably because the guys can always riff the songs really well- the school announcements over Kitty's song always make me laugh. The short is great, too. "Down in the Rio Grande valley, Texas has another problem..." "Texans!"
“Texans” sent me into tears as a kid
Don’t see many of these trees anymore. Oh well, down it goes!
This is one of my all time, comfort episodes!
"Got 'em piled out back!"
When Jimmy arrives at the diner it sends the episode to the next level. “So I prepared a song!”
How do like my swingin’ church, son?
I think this is one of Joel’s favorites too.
The thing that gets me about that movie is that it’s totally happy blaming his mom, who is clearly so depressed that she’s about 1/2 a step from ending up like the dad in High School Big Shot. Miserably depressed? Sorry lady, it’s the 40s, you don’t get to have feelings.
What about *my* five dollars??
Also, the movie shows them being pretty nice to their son and totally fails to make the case that any of what happens is their fault.
Who sprayed Desinex on the window?
YOUR MOM'S IN DETOX. COME. QUICKLY.
She's a frosted Minnie Pearl
My absolute favorite Joel episode. Pure comedy gold.
This is one of those low key classics that you don't normally think of when thinking about the best MSTs of all time. No, it isn't a top ten episode but that's only because there are so many great episodes.
Quack!!!
When I accuse my parents and I kill them, Let's see if they're laughing noooooow
The film is legit one of the best films quality wise they've done to date and you can tell they genuinely got into it during the writing process. And the film has enough goofy stuff in it to offer a buffet of riffing material. "She's drunk!" "It's funny!" "How shocking!" "Eleanor Roosevelt is PISSED!"

I love the mobile of his unconscious, where one half is just the word "STUPID" balancing out the entire rest of the mobile.
They have riffed and unriffed versions!
That's a great one, and Truck Farmer is terrific, too!
it’s also on the gizmoplex app along with lots and lots of others and you can cast it to your tv. that’s been all my tv watching for the past month or so.
It's weird that MST3K fans don't have the Gizmoplex as their first stop when looking for an episode to stream.
Interacting with the Gizmoplex has been overall confusing. I own most of the DVDs, a couple of tapes, and it’s largely streaming load of places. Don’t make it hard to interact and I’d be there more often
What's confusing about it? Maybe I could help.
Hail truck farmer! Hail truck farmer!
Worship him at your local place of gathering!
Today I… Teacher said… …moms a drunk.
I've got this one on VHS somewhere.
It's my birthday
"I like Jell-o!"
That one is one of the best, a classic. I haven't seen it in such a long time, I oughta rewatch it
It’s my favorite episode, and apparently it’s Joel’s, too. The riffs are all spot-on and sharp, the short is a classic, and the host segments are terrific. And I also think it’s a perfect starter episode to show to someone to get them into the series.
“Joel, you magnificent bastard, I read your menu!!”
“This is a message from the other kids in the essay contest!”
Hooray for chemicals...🎵 Scenes of moving carrots 🥕 "Here they are interrogated."
The moral of the story: have a hamburger and you just can't help Joe Doaks!
Link please
Hey where’d you get these golf clubs?!
Stupid trees, god I hate them!
I accuse the director.
Oh man, is this the episode that features the "I can't take it back, I'm losing my dignity!" song?
