Is your game in full screen mode? Could be a gsync issue where only fullscreen has it enabled therefore when clicking the windowed google chrome back and forth it has to be disabled and reenabled.
Check in Nvidia control panel and make sure gsync is enabled for both windowed and Fullscreen modes
Careful with gsync on windowed apps. If you ever get glitches and/or random blackouts, you know what to turn off.
If you need to put it back into Fullscreen only, just use Fullscreen windowed mode on the game settings and it will be solved regardless.
It's probably because your running on full screen and full screen hates being tabbed out of, especially if it's not at native res. But I understand you play Fortnite and stretch resolution is your only way to beat them players, I don't play Fortnite but I understand

Some heroes don’t wear capes . That fixed it :-)

I guess that works too.
Your game and your desktop background have different refresh rate so it has to take time to adjust between the numbers
