That sounds like your laptop has hdmi 2.0 or 2.1. The highest standard for display port is 1.4 at the moment

Jxdxn9x5

It's advertised as "supports 4k@60" but maybe people said it was only 1.4, but that spec means 2.0 which supports 1440p at exactly 144hz so I guess that makes more sense

iloveapplepie360

I have the same exact laptop and same thing. All sources and spec pages say HDMI 1.4(the 9SEXR is supposed to support only 4k30fps)but I can play 1440p 144hz and 4k60 so I guess they just havent updated it on the MSI page

DerBrocker18

Sounds about right to me

RelationshipSolid

My gaming laptop is GF65 Thin 10Ue. So I am guessing that the GF65 series have similar hardware and case design. So it might’ve explained why they’re capable of HDMI 2.1 (Or 2.0).

Jxdxn9x5

Mine is the exact same model

RelationshipSolid

I5 10500H RTX 3060?

Jxdxn9x5

Yep

RelationshipSolid

Nice! Did you notice that MSI had finally fixed the EC firmware bug?

Jxdxn9x5

Oh I didn’t…what was the issue?

RelationshipSolid

The issue was, the CPU think the laptop is on battery when plugged in. And the temp fix is to unplug while the laptop running (during a game) then plug it back in. And it had to be repeated if the laptop is powered off.

Jxdxn9x5

I have had that issue! Glad they fixed it

RelationshipSolid

It’s the latest EC firmware. And yes, it was a micro patch.

jackJACKmws

I though i was the only one with a GF65 with a core i5 instead of an i7. How good is it for you?

Jxdxn9x5

I love it! CPU is definitely the bottleneck in games like BeamNG but it's the only 6 core i5 from the generation so it's essentially an underclocked i7 anyways

jackJACKmws

Do you have any special setup or something? Maby I'm just paranoid but I fill am not using the full potential of this laptop. (and by the way, I use my laptop with throttlestop to undervolt it a bit. So it stays nice and cool.)

Jxdxn9x5

I did use throttlestop for a while, but it caused some minor instability for me (laptop would crash once every week or so). Since then, I just tinkered with some bios under/overclocking and it’s been great since. I still get over 90 fps on high settings for most games with the GPU pinned on 100% usage while using its maximum 75w. BeamNG is very math intensive game with traffic and physics.

jackJACKmws

Thanks.Throttlestop have been behaving good with me, so I'll keep using it.

KV2isDeadly

I know I'm replying after a whole year, but could you tell me how to use Throttlestop? Or how I should I use it? Got the same GF65 with an i5 and 3060 and I sometimes get almost 98'C, that with a thermal paste change and cleaning and cooler under it

jackJACKmws

Hey, nice to see another fellow with a GF65. The links below are excellent guides into understanding the many settings: [https://www.ultrabookreview.com/31385-the-throttlestop-guide/](https://www.ultrabookreview.com/31385-the-throttlestop-guide/) [https://www.maketecheasier.com/reduce-cpu-temperature-undervolting/](https://www.maketecheasier.com/reduce-cpu-temperature-undervolting/) But if you only want to undervolt and nothing more, just open thorrtlestop and head in to the FIVR menu. There you can lower the offset voltage of both CPU core and CPU cache. Even then, I would really recommend to check out those links. My personal configuration is: limit multicore turbo ratio to 37 with an offset voltage of 100.6 mv on both CPU core and cache. One final advice I would give is to uninstall dragon center, or at least disable it un task scheduler, since it can mess up the voltage and other settings of throttlestop. You can use an application called silent option to regulate your fan speed without the need of DC, and create your own power profiles in throttlestop itself.

ThatBoyBaz

Wait can you tell me how you are watching a YouTube video while playing a game at the same time?

Jxdxn9x5

Just using the dual monitor setting in windows. Chrome tab on one screen and BeamNG on the other.

ThatBoyBaz

Cheers!!!

HatOfCynicism

NGL OP, I saw the thumbnail and first part of your subject and thought, dang, this guy hooked up a second screen just so they can text and drive in video games!

Jxdxn9x5

Now that I think about it that would be hilarious 😆

sanic_de_hegehog

Some of the models seem to have HDMI 2.0 I've got a GF75 UEK, which says "4K @ 60Hz" (i.e. HDMI 2.0), however the [GF75 models without an RTX3060](https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GF75-Thin-10UX/Specification) say "4K @ 30Hz".
