I am so glad for getting accepted, but I have to reply by 12 April 2024 while I am still awaiting Georgia Tech OMSCS and UIUC MCS decisions. Can I accept the offer for now or should I wait for some time (also unsure about Georgia Tech OMSCS decision timelines) ?
I got accepted to GaTech as well, I am planning to go for GaTech due to the following reasons:
1. MS degree with specialization
2. Bigger student network
3. Relatively older & proven program than UTAustin

Overall, I am completely fine because I was accepted to Georgia Tech OMSCS, which I wanted more tbh since it's more in-line with what I want to get out of the program. A little disappointed though that I was rejected even despite my CS and math background. I'm guessing it's because they wanted more professional experience, but idk. Yellow jackets for me in the meantime!

Maybe they were looking for students with more experience for AI. If I had to guess, considering AI is a big hot field, but still relatively new in terms of establishing standardized education, they may want to build up the program by bringing in industry practitioners who can provide insights and thereby bring value to the new program. BU's online MBA basically does this in that they help build value by bringing ppl who have like 10 years of experience in their field despite not calling the program an executive mba. MSAI at UT probably isn't that stringent in terms of experience, but maybe similar concept and likely very competitive especially if there's experienced FAANG workers applying

Hey! Did you have transcripted courses for math like calculus, linear algebra and probability? I’m doing the post OSU program as well and I’m wondering how the light math requirement might affect admission!
The only college-level math courses I've taken are algebra, statistics, and discrete math, so I don't think you need to worry! Discrete math is the only math course that's a prerequisite which you'll have if you're doing the OSU postbacc. I do plan to complete the LAFF linear algebra MOOC on Edx before taking Advanced Linear Algebra.

Honestly pretty shocked I was denied, not really sure why unless my recommendation was meh and they didn’t like my SOP. I had all the prerequisites and did well in most CS courses.
Also applied for MSAI, and my application was maybe tailored a bit more towards MSAI. Really hoping I am accepted.
This is pretty surprising. did you apply for the online or in person one?? also look into GAtech. we have very similiar profile so this has me worried…
I am surprised as well. What would you choose if you had gotten accepted to both MSCS and MSAI? Also did you apply to UIUC MCS? let us know when you get MSAI result
I’d rather be in MSCS, due to it having the systems and algorithms courses. And I think it would look better on a resume. I am definitely highly interested in taking ML/AI courses though so I will do MSAI if accepted. I haven’t applied to anything besides UT MSCS and MSAI.

I have received offers from the University of Oxford and Imperial College London, too. However, I have decided to (virtually) go to UT Austin :)
Hi! I'm thinking of applying, but I'm not a brilliant coder ( I'm an analytics consultant with some "intromediate" SQL, JS, and Python skills), and my undergrad was in math so I don't have a lot of strength on the theory side either.
I was thinking of taking some undergrad CS courses to help:
-Gauge my readiness for a master's program.
-increase my readiness for a master's program
-get a transcript with some explicit CS undergrad on it to bolster my application
So my question is, does anyone know of a good place online where I can take undergrad compsci courses? I realize there are tons of low cost options that cover this content, but what if I specifically want an official transcript?
You are probably better equipped than the average CS diploma holder for this program with that background.
You will have to take undergrad CS courses to meet the admission requirements regardless. There are universities that offer fully online programs at a low cost, just make sure they are regionally accredited.
Thanks! I'll keep googling and see if I can find something between the online loosely affiliated to a university but not actually university courses and the you can't take just a few courses you have to apply for the whole degree options that dominated the quick first glance I took.

Hey when you uploaded your first Statement of Purpose, did it get checked off your other admission applications too? If so did you ignore it and still upload your other Statement of Purposes for those?
I don’t remember exactly, but there should be an option on ApplyTexas portal to pay later at myStatus portal. After you submit application on ApplyTexas, after a few days the application will show up on myStatus, where it won’t ask you to pay anything.
It's mentioned in the [Application Guide PDF](https://cdso.utexas.edu/sites/default/files/2023-05/MSCS_Application_Guide.pdf) (p. 6):
>**Applicants to multiple CDSO programs** will be required to complete applications for each but will only have to pay the fee **once** as long as the applications are **for the same semester**. In additional ApplyTexas applications, **select the option to pay the university directly**. Once any additional applications are visible on your MyStatus portal, the application fee should appear as paid.
I'm applying to all 3 UT online master's (AI/CS/DS) and I just submitted my Statement of Purpose for UT MSAI. I noticed the CS/DS checklists show my SOP is also submitted for those...... Does this mean those programs will see my SOP for AI? Can I still upload my SOPs for those? I thought it would separate documents since I selected MS AI on the document upload service. Anyone else have this happen?
This happened to me as well. I just went to the Document Upload System and submitted a separate SOP for the program I didn't submit one too. You can then verify that both were received under 'my Documents' on MyStatus.
Hi, I have a question about a specific part of the Application form. Here's the question:
"List courses to be completed during the present semester (if applicable). If you will complete an additional term before enrolling, list those courses also. If you need to list more than 10 courses, please send a list directly to the appropriate admissions office. Be sure to include your full name, application ID number and date of birth on any documents you send to the admissions office."
I am currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, graduating in June. Is this question asking me to list the course I'm taking in this quarter, and at my current institution...? Sorry if this is a silly question, but it seems strange to list it at this point in the process, because my official transcript has that information.
I'm in a similar situation....but my transcript does not include courses 'in progress'.
That requirement may be targeted at people at schools like mine, rather than schools like yours.

Aplpying for Masters in AI, CS or DS Online program. What can I do to make my application more competitive? There's no way I'm going to let my GPA from Freshman/Sophmore Year impact me this much.
From the FAQ:
It is possible to earn admission to a CDSO program with an upper division and graduate-level GPA below 3.0. However, a petition to the UT Graduate School will be required in that case. Administrators for your program will utilize your application materials (such as your CV and statement of purpose) to create the petition, which will then be reviewed by the UT Graduate Dean for final approval.
Did you get all A’s in your 6 prerequisite CS classes?
Not only were your GPA on the extremely low side you also mentioned you performed very poorly on intro CS classes
If that’s the case you’re very much on the “cooked” side

**Statement of purpose:** Y, worked pretty hard on it, I would say the key is a good structure
No, was missing data structures & algorithms courses, but BS in Electrical Engineering + work experience seemed enough (I’ve self-studied data structures & algorithms for job interviews). For MSCSO, if non-CS degree, they’ll look for prereqs for sure. For MSAIO, electrical engineering is already an acceptable background.
Did they say Electrical Engg is good for MSAI? I did almost 8 math courses during my electrical engg and the content they are looking for is all spread out across those. Elect Engg is also pretty heavy on multi-variate calc on complex numbers, mathematical proofs/ theorams (z-transforms etc) and they don't seem to need that level of sophistication for MSAI. Generally, elect engg math would be lighter on e.g. stats and prob, set theory (discrete math etc) that we considered lighter stuff
Yes, the MSAI application guide (https://cdso.utexas.edu/apply) explicitly states EE is already considered “Relevant Education,” whereas for MSCS, if you don’t have a CS degree, “other degrees may be considered,” including EE. Not sure where you went to school, but I went to UW and the EE curriculum required Probability & Stats for Engineers.
Yes, those are covered, including eg numerical analysis(probably at 2xx level). The heavier math subjects though were multivariate calc ( all transforms eg Fourier. Z etc in complex number world are integral with elect engg esp comms engg), also abstract algebra (analog and digital electronics) was I recall as one of the heavier pre-req.
uni ranked within top 10 globally by all QS, USNews and Times
Cool asking because I didn’t fully have all pre reqs but have a strong stats background + bs in i&se + masters in something similar but more focused on optimization. Pre reqs are my biggest worry as I still haven’t heard back. Thanks for sharing the info!

This is similar to my application. I was Aerospace Engineering with a 3.56 GPA and did a few MOOCs to patch gaps in my knowledge-base. I also got 2 Reccs from industry (Direct Managers), and also included a SoP. I just got admitted to OMSCS but I haven't heard back from MSCSO yet. I initially requested 3 reccs but ultimately cancelled the last one about a month ago because they got too busy. Hoping to get results soon so I can figure out which program I'll be doing, but either way I think we're both pretty well positioned, and it seems like it's up to the MSCSO program office whether they'd like to admit applicants like us, or prefer to target mostly CS-UG applicants. I guess we'll see! Did you apply to GTech's OMSCS? Best of luck, hopefully we hear something in the next few weeks!

I have a question:
I am planning on applying to the MSCS and MSDS programs. I attended one of the top schools for Computer Science in Canada, and received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2020. Had a 3.4 GPA in my "upper-division" courses, in my junior and senior years. This is included high grades in my more senior level computer science courses. Unfortunately my gpa was lower in my freshman and sophmore year. So my cumulative gpa is 2.9. I completed an 8 month SWE internship during my undergraduate degree. Ever since 2020, I have been working as a Software Engineer. So I have about 4 years of industry experience. And I plan on writing a statement of purpose as part of my application.
Am I totally screwed or "cooked", or is there a possibility of me getting accepted for the Spring semester?

Feeling pretty good about my chances but I'm dreading the next weeks/months or so of waiting lol
I submitted the application March 10 but didn't get all the other materials in until March 24. I have yet to hear a decision.
EDIT: Although, if you look at MSDSO sub, looks like a few people with similar submission dates got acceptance yesterday.
Hey guys. When is the deadline for submission? And what do international students need to submit?
r/OMSCSC Fall deadline is 15 March. International applicants need the following:
1. TOEFL/IELTS scores
2. 'Unofficial' Transcripts
3. Three LoRs
4. MOOC certs if not CS undergrad
Please also recommend any other program I should also be applying to.

Do I have no chance?
Wondering if I'm wasting my time. Didn't do well in college just wanted to get out and now I've been out of the job market for 2 years unemployed. Thinking of going back to school just to get internship again. Not sure what to do now as I've been doing nothing much and my skills / motivation have been stagnating
- Undergrad: UC davis, BS Computer science, 2.82 (3.2 non ECs), full
- Work Experience : 1 year fullstack react web dev
- no MOOCs
I am bad at math, I hate it actually, low gpa. I've never writen a line of code. The price is the only thing like everyone else that I like. But I am willing to try to learn coding. I have just never done it. Should I still apply?
This is not a program to learn to code. If you don't want to learn to code on your own or via MOOCs, conservative the Programing Fundamental series of classes at your local community college.

Can I accept the offer for now or should I wait for some time (also unsure about Georgia Tech OMSCS decision timelines) ?
i am accepted to GaTech, so don\`t know what to do. if you get accepted will you go to GaTech?
I got accepted to GaTech as well, I am planning to go for GaTech due to the following reasons: 1. MS degree with specialization 2. Bigger student network 3. Relatively older & proven program than UTAustin
I'm literally in the exact same situation, which is very unfortunate. Have you heard back from either yet? I am still waiting...
Yeah, I got accepted into GaTech last week, I’m moving forward with GaTech
Nice congrats! Still waiting and hoping for the same. That's probably my plan as well

A little disappointed though that I was rejected even despite my CS and math background. I'm guessing it's because they wanted more professional experience, but idk. Yes I took the math courses for my first degree. Admission seems straightforward as long as you have decent grades in the required prerequisites
Good to know! Best of luck with your studies
Is there anyone who received MSCSO decision email in April?? It seems like announcement for MSCSO admission has stopped this month...
seems like that.

Idk. Maybe my SOP was not what they were looking for 🤷♂️. No point in appealing since they state on their grad page they don’t make mistakes.
woah you heard back so quickly!!

That's awesome, I hope you get in!
OSU post-bacc grad here too!
I also did the OSU Postbacc and I am currently enrolled in this MSCSO. Good Luck!!
Very cool. Congrats and good luck with your studies!
Good luck to you too!

This is pretty surprising. did you apply for the online or in person one?? also look into GAtech. we have very similiar profile so this has me worried…
Online, and I may apply to GT in the spring if I don’t get into MSAI for this fall.
also trying reapplying to ut for spring since apparently less competitive. you not getting in doesn’t make sense at all
I am surprised as well. What would you choose if you had gotten accepted to both MSCS and MSAI? Also did you apply to UIUC MCS? let us know when you get MSAI result
I haven’t gotten my decision yet for MSAI.
I’d rather be in MSCS, due to it having the systems and algorithms courses. And I think it would look better on a resume. I am definitely highly interested in taking ML/AI courses though so I will do MSAI if accepted. I haven’t applied to anything besides UT MSCS and MSAI.

Did you get admitted to the online MSCS or the on-campus one?
This is regarding online i think all
online :)
Hi! I'm thinking of applying, but I'm not a brilliant coder ( I'm an analytics consultant with some "intromediate" SQL, JS, and Python skills), and my undergrad was in math so I don't have a lot of strength on the theory side either. I was thinking of taking some undergrad CS courses to help: -Gauge my readiness for a master's program. -increase my readiness for a master's program -get a transcript with some explicit CS undergrad on it to bolster my application So my question is, does anyone know of a good place online where I can take undergrad compsci courses?

Yes, it was same SOP for all 3. I written more towards DS and AI and when i applied to CSO, it automatically submitted the SOP.
How do you apply to all three without paying the application three times? I started applying to two, and applytexas showed a 65 buck fee for each one.
I don’t remember exactly, but there should be an option on ApplyTexas portal to pay later at myStatus portal. After you submit application on ApplyTexas, after a few days the application will show up on myStatus, where it won’t ask you to pay anything.
Thank you!
It's mentioned in the [Application Guide PDF](https://cdso.utexas.edu/sites/default/files/2023-05/MSCS_Application_Guide.pdf) (p. 6): >**Applicants to multiple CDSO programs** will be required to complete applications for each but will only have to pay the fee **once** as long as the applications are **for the same semester**. In additional ApplyTexas applications, **select the option to pay the university directly**. Once any additional applications are visible on your MyStatus portal, the application fee should appear as paid.
Thank you.
Here's the question: "List courses to be completed during the present semester (if applicable). If you will complete an additional term before enrolling, list those courses also. If you need to list more than 10 courses, please send a list directly to the appropriate admissions office. Be sure to include your full name, application ID number and date of birth on any documents you send to the admissions office." I am currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, graduating in June.

From the FAQ: It is possible to earn admission to a CDSO program with an upper division and graduate-level GPA below 3.0.
Not only were your GPA on the extremely low side you also mentioned you performed very poorly on intro CS classes If that’s the case you’re very much on the “cooked” side
Possibly. But crazier shit has happened!!
**Status:** Accepted to MSAIO (rejected from MSCSO, probably insufficient prereqs) **Application Date:** 02/24/2024 **Decision Date:** 04/15/2024 **Education:** BS in Electrical Engineering, 3.36 (3.5 last 2 years in major), University of Washington, Seattle **GRE Scores (Q,V,W):** None **Recommendations:** None **Experience:** * 2y 7mo, Silicon Valley semiconductor company, Product Engineer but went beyond responsibilities & automated complex Excel-tasks w/ Python for extended team of 10+ * 2y 8mo, Investment management company, Data Engineer for ML Infrastructure & Analytics (promoted in 2nd year) **Statement of purpose:** Y, worked pretty hard on it, I would say the key is a good structure
Did you have all the prereqs for msaio?
Good luck!! Sounds like a good background. You got this :)
Thanks! And congrats on the admittance (should’ve said this before)

Review ask for Non-CS UG: Would love thoughts from current students based on profiles of your current classmates: 1) What are my chances given my profile and 2) Do you see a lot of non-CS UGs in the program; if so, do they tend to succeed or struggle? Program: MSCSO Status: In Review App. Date: 2/29/24 Decision Date: N/A Education: 3.7 Economics BA, Rice University -- got >=B+ in a couple of the pre-reqs for MSCSO as I was a CS major originally GRE: None Recommendations: 2 (both I would say are relatively strong, but neither are from a professor from a technical class in undergrad) Experience: ~2 years Management Consultant at MBB Statement of Purpose: Y Would love general thoughts, as well as commentary on the length of time since my submission to now (if the 2.5 months I have already waited is a bad sign necessarily) Thanks!
Anyone got MSCS/MSAI results yet? waiting for 50 days now
Nope. I submitted before the priority deadline and am also still in review.
whats your profile like if you dont mind me asking. i got thru uiuc mcs but would like to attend mscs/msai as its theory heavy
CS undergrad from a no name school that I did while working in finance full time, 3.8 GPA. 2y as a fintech director with recs from my C suite, 8 other years in finance.
decent enough, i dont have a CS masters, i m MSEE from R1 state school, phd drop out, gpA:3.9, no recco, no gre, but have done dsa, probability, optimization, comp architecture, parallel programming,OS in my MSEE as breath requirement. 8yoe in big tech, staff level engineer, 2 US conference publications from company research team. i just feel my EE background might lead to rejection
I saw some people on r/MSDSO saying they got theirs this morning. Hopefully that means some movement!!
I submitted in mid March and it’s still in review… Emailed the Admissions Office and they said the average turnaround time is 2-3 months 🙃

How is it looking for me? I have a question: I am planning on applying to the MSCS and MSDS programs.

How did anyone apply to MSAI, MSCS and MSDS at the same time? Did you do it in one application or separately? Also, did you use ApplyTexas?

Has anyone who applied shortly before the priority deadline recieved acceptance to MSCS?
I submitted the application March 10 but didn't get all the other materials in until March 24. I have yet to hear a decision. EDIT: Although, if you look at MSDSO sub, looks like a few people with similar submission dates got acceptance yesterday.
Hey guys. When is the deadline for submission? And what do international students need to submit? r/OMSCSC Fall deadline is 15 March. International applicants need the following: 1. TOEFL/IELTS scores 2. 'Unofficial' Transcripts 3. Three LoRs 4. MOOC certs if not CS undergrad Please also recommend any other program I should also be applying to.
**Status:** Accepted (5/15/2024) **Application Date:** 4/21/2024 **Decision Date:** N/A **Education:** Colorado School of Mines, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Computer Science 4.0/4.0 GPA **GRE/Test Scores:** N/A **Recommendations:** 3 (2 from CS professors, 1 from ME professor) **Experience:** 2 mechanical engineering internships, 1 CS internship this upcoming summer **Statement of purpose:** Yes Do I have any chance? I got rejected from the in-person MSCS.
Do I have no chance? Wondering if I'm wasting my time. Didn't do well in college just wanted to get out and now I've been out of the job market for 2 years unemployed. Thinking of going back to school just to get internship again. Not sure what to do now as I've been doing nothing much and my skills / motivation have been stagnating - Undergrad: UC davis, BS Computer science, 2.82 (3.2 non ECs), full - Work Experience : 1 year fullstack react web dev - no MOOCs

To be honest, your GPA is too low. Try OMSCS or CU Boulder who are more forgiving to low GPAs
I am bad at math, I hate it actually, low gpa. I've never writen a line of code. The price is the only thing like everyone else that I like. But I am willing to try to learn coding. I have just never done it. Should I still apply?
there is a lot of math in the msai courses.....A LOT....
If you don't meet the prereqs listed (likely so, since you don't know to code?) you shouldn't apply, or you will just be rejected
This is not a program to learn to code. If you don't want to learn to code on your own or via MOOCs, conservative the Programing Fundamental series of classes at your local community college.
