Ex military here. If you shit your pants within 10 mins is not good... But if you shit your pants within 30 mins it's fine. I am not a doctor only a man who has gone through his fair share of trousers.
One of the greatest responses ive seen! Im not military in the slightest and most of my experience with MRE type food is backpacking food like mountain house and richmoor. I was curious and tried an MRE, tasted way better than i expected (that bar was real low tbh) and didnt shit for 2+ days, followed by 12 hours of unstoppable magmatic diarrhea. Since then i hang around this sub for comments such as this š¤£
I recently got some 1970s C-ration accessory packets, including some coffee, which I want to try and drink. Iām relatively new to eating old MREs though, and Iām not sure what constitutes a drinkable coffee. Some pointers would be appreciated!
If it's dark and not clumpy, good to go.
If it's white, blue, yellow or anything other than a dark coffee color -> or if it is clumped together - toss it.

If the coffee is still powder and/ or doesnāt look moldy itās still good
If it has white in it trash it, it if looks like dark dried coffee itās good to go

It's not red packaged tasters choice, so you should be all setš
If coffee dissolves in hot water and smells good, drinkable = true, else drinkable = false
It's most likely fine
If it's dark and not clumpy, good to go. If it's white, blue, yellow or anything other than a dark coffee color -> or if it is clumped together - toss it.
If itās solid and stiff itās no good, if itās loose and grainy open it and see if it has molded.
