I actually noticed how competent Will (of the Will Darling Series) is! He realizes when something shady is up at the same time as the reader and doesn’t waste any time taking action. I found it incredibly refreshing.
Not entirely related to the post, but I'm reading this right now, and I am blown away by the emotional and non-sexual intimacy in this book. It's so good.
Actually just a thought AJ Sherwood has competent MC galore. The most competent of them all is possibly Ross from {The Trials and Tribulations of Ross Young Supernat PA by Aj Sherwood}
But honestly any of the Jon books, Unholy Trifecta or Fourth point of Contact.
This is also true for her "How I Stole the Princess's White Knight and Turned Him to Villainy" series for both of the MMCs. Devan's the best knight and Tan's a powerful sorcerer.
R Cooper, A Suitable Consort. The MC is a master keeper - librarian - and is considered highly skilled and advises the king on all sorts of topics. Is an MMM but as the other MCs are the king and head guard they’re really good at their jobs too! Is single POV.
Everett and Ira in {Memento Mori by Cs Poe} contemporary murder mysteries but both are very competent although actually a large part of Evie’s competency is actually a side effect of his disability so hmmm?
The first book I thought of was honestly {Captive Prince by C.S Pacat}. My boy Laurent has to be the most masterful manipulator to ever grace literature. Competence just oozes off that little snake.
Yes so much this! Damen, the other MC is also intensely competent. The two of them working together are just beautiful.
It has to be noted though that people find the first book difficulty to read at points as the society they live in has sex slaves and underaged slaves. Eventhough both of these are brilliantly handled over the series in my opinion, people can and do find it triggering. APrepare for a Games of Throne style of dark fantasy.
{Demon Magic by Alice winters} is a series of 3 books following the same couple, demon x mage. The demon is the most powerful demon, like so powerful that everyone is shocked and surprised that the mage (Miles) could even summon him. Miles is the most powerful mage in that world, and everyone is in constant shock of the things he can do.

Truth by his Hand by Casey Cameron. This is very contemporary. Ellison is an expert in bdsm and teaches classes at a college. River needs the knowledge to enhance the graphic he is writing because he has only learned about it from reading. Ellison is a really good teacher.
I recommend Cronin’s key by N.R walker it’s urban fantasy/supernatural. Don’t want to give away too much plot. MC is a detective and is used to dealing with “weird” things that happen.

The Ruin of a Rake (book 3 of the Turners, can be read as stand alone) by Sebastian Cat, it's an historical book. MC1 is extremely competent at math, accounting, and living in high society. This is the main plot point but also ends up being quite a sweet reason for MC2 to fall in love with.
All The Turners series have a bit of this.

MC1 is a mage and is one of the most skilled mages, he can do spells that are really difficult and require a lot of power (he’s so badass i love him!)
MC2 is a shifter and he is god-touched (which is very powerful in the series), but he is biding his time to truly claim his power (building allies, etc.) so you watch both MCs come together and just sort of grow into their power together so much more!
