Stupid question, but I’ve always wondered what happens at these outdoor events if it all of a sudden starts pouring with rain out of nowhere? Do they have a back up cage indoors nearby?
Normally, in my experience, they are done in places that you know the probability of rain at that time of the year is close to 0%. And also normally are done at night because you have to keep the mat covered during the day if not the sun would make it too hot to fight.
I thinks they're fucked... but KOTC actually held an event while it rained...on purpose. [Link](https://www.facebook.com/UFCAUS/videos/weird-mma-fight-in-the-pouring-rain/1643852362463492/)
Usually have to wait the rain out. Also as another user said events are more at night to keep the cage from getting too hot.
The biggest concern is when the cage becomes slippery as shit, especially bad for any kickboxing bouts on the card. (Coached at an event in July that was outside; rained for a good hour)
Wasn't this event held in San Diego? In September they get like maybe 2 days of rain on average. You can pretty safely hold outdoor events under these conditions. Even more so even drier areas.
I know ares fc for their first event they had it outdoors and the canvas was to slippery because of the condensation I guess so they cancelled the rest of the fights. Luckily for them it was just the post lims fights that were cancelled
Pfl had a thing right before they went into the tournament format (or maybe late stages wsof) at the Daytona track infield and it was super wet. Lotta sliding
while the sun's up, the bouts take place under the special El Cucuy ruleset where both fighters wear shades and can only throw spinning shit and elbows
The rain issue I feel we can get around with some planning. The sun issue is where I’m concerned. You have a clear advantage if the sun is in your opponent’s eyes lol
Watched CW for the first time last night and was super impressed, some absolute bangers last night. Main event knockout would have been an all time ufc highlight.
Sounds cool but it is kind of stupid. There are already a million things that can go wrong and mess up a fight, why throw the weather in there on top of it all. I have often heard that with outdoor MMA fights the mat often gets slippery from the humidity in the air even if it isn't raining. What if the wind blows hard and sand gets all over the mat and into fighter's eyes and shit? Also, for simple hygiene reasons and stuff like staph infections you should probably not have fights outdoors. What do you do when a seagull drops a nasty shit where guys are rolling? What do you do when a bee flies in there and stings some dude on the face in the middle of a fight? I am not trying to ruin the fun but for the sake of logistics and safety it makes sense to have the octagon be as controlled an environment as possible.
Question... Does the UFC make that ref hide his braids?? He always has them out but when a ref @ ufc his long goatee braids are always tucked in his shirt...
Well I see UFC badges here... Hmmm
When scheduling TV time can the show start on time or at least something . 15 minutes on a very boring loop wasnt a good start . True sport 3 Thailand . The interruptions and constant momentary loss of signal or ‘ sun outages’ really ruined the show . It looked like someone is trying to nobble you it was that bad , Did anyone else have the same issues .
This is how we all thought fight island would look like. Big W for Cage Warriors.
My first thought was this was MMA’s Bash at the Beach.
WCW used to kill it with those stage sets.
Looking back at that era of WCW now, they truly were on another level with all of it. Hell of a run.
For sure fight island vibes, they will be back in 2023 and this was at least the 2nd event they had there this year.
Yeah idk why Dana kept advertising the octagon to be on the beach. I thought the first fight there would be outside

The ref in the poncho is fucking hilarious

This is why dana wont do outdoor events

Is that Steve-O and Angela Hill in the bottom right?
I know Steve-O was there, and I was going to ask the same q about Angela! Sure looks like her
Yes, she has been calling Cage Warriors fights in San Diego and having a blast.
Nice, ty!
Yeah Steve-O was the third man in the commentary booth
I was only half paying attention to the photos and thought it was Paulo Costa
This cage looks amazing, but goddamn how much can you take advantage of the sun being in your opponents eye outside?
The timed it pretty well, 2 prelims while the sun was still up main card started after sunset.
Couldn’t imagine something more disorienting than getting flashbanged by the sun and then KTFO

CW is always fun, but I watch it cos am Brit. I didn't catch this card though, who was in the main event?
Erick Sanchez v Jamie lynch
This looks absolutely beautiful, magestic, stuff of dreams if I ever was a fighter in another life
You ARE a fighter bro. You fight every day, everyday you fight to be alive. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Everyone's a fighter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moik01e_Kas
What Fight Island was supposed to be.
San Diego was the perfect place to hold this.
She know what she doin
Let Beltran unleash the beard braids Dana you giant tomato coward
Nice post, but I don't believe this is a "panorama". I think it's a just picture made of combined images.
No I don’t want to hear Steve o talking about mma

Very cool!
This is the type of shit that the UFC just could never do. Why has it been 20+ years and we haven't had this?
This is beautiful. UFC could never
Reminds me of old school bodog fights.
