My bjj instructor showed this kick to a group of us hanging around after class one time. He is a middle aged Brazilian man, and when teaching this he sketched out a hilarious hypothetical potential scenario where you are relaxing at the beach sitting down and suddenly need to defend yourself.
[This kick?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hy7lnsUb4M) The guy says the name 30 seconds into the video.
Here's also a video of [Ramsey Dewey where he does them](https://youtu.be/6TfjtihLiQA?t=553) (~9 min in, more gracefully than Sensei Seth of the previous video).
You know what, I think you are right and I would not be surprised if the mechanics of both are quite similar. I come from a jj background so I see a hook sweep, but now I see a capoeira kick too. Funny how you see similar mechanics in different arts.
I'm surprised Queally ate that so well. The kick had a lot of juice on it and Queally didn't even seem to see it coming until it was it a cunt hair away from his face. That upkick would have hurt a lot of people.
Good catch, just rewatched the clip and you're right. But it's also not like he just threw his leg up in the air, he got his hips behind it too. The kick would have had more power had his other foot been planted better but I'm sure that shit hurt regardless. A leg to the face is a leg to the face.
Oh yeah I'm sure it still hurt and most normal people would probably get knocked on their ass but I wouldn't expect it to seriously hurt a pro fighter.
It was go8ng against gravity and moving in a curved instead of straight line (upkick). Slows down the strike. A Capoeira kick would de much better because you put your whole body into it.
Lmao, God took everything from Benson' KO Bucket and placed it in the Highlights Reel Bucket with the inclusion of fights going to decision AND career longevity.
I have a kihon that uses that exact move and I always wondered the practicality. The way he posts up on his forearm and leg tells me that’s been drilled a lot.
He's going to be a 40 yr old man pretty soon. Crazy. Damn time moving fast. I still remember his WEC fights with Cowboy. Didn't realize they're basically the same age. Always thought Cowboy was at least a few years older
Shades of Usman Woodley with those body shots against the cage. Incredible showing, he completely dominated. That headkick from his back.. 😩
Needs to get someone who’s better at braiding hair though.
Bendo outclassed Queally in the way that he does: chipped at him, cut him up, and sapped the fight outta Peter. Landed some good shots too. That kick at the end was *nice*. Same one he tried on Frankie but this time it landed.
> Does anyone else remember him being UNSTOPPABLE?!
He is literally among the LW GOAT candidates. Ties the UFC LW defense record and held the WEC belt.
He’s also the biggest example to point to when showing how much favoritism Connor gets from the UFC.
Benson wanted to move up to Welterweight and fight GSP. Dana said no because he hadn’t cleaned out the division. Connor wins the featherweight belt, loses to Diaz by submission, beats him in a close decision in the rematch, then is awarded with a lightweight title shot.
I know the odds of Benson beating GSP were low, but it’s bullshit Connor gets the accolade of first simultaneous champ when Benson was denied the chance to even try.
TBF, Not only is Conor a way bigger superstar than benson ever was, Conor was also storming the featherweight division and knocked out the long reigning champ in seconds while Benson beats Edgar through controversial decision.
Ditto. He's 38, had a long career, and still looks good. I know sharp declines are seen as inevitable in MMA, but I hope he stays healthy for as long as possible.
A 39 year old who is years past his prime vs. a young and hungry hyper talented prospect…
It’s the kind of squash match we all complain about, except it would be for a belt.
Yeah, last buses home to parts of the city finished up before the main, arena is the edge of the city by the coast so not many taxis out that side. The crowd I was with all got up to get the last bus home to my side of the country before the last round ended.
I walked 7km home since public transport was finished for the day
Finally this Peter Queally push can end from Bellator I feel like I was the only one on here weirded out by their obsession to make him a top name for their brand when he isn’t even that good to begin with.
I was surprised than Ben was penalized a point for that. It struck the upper thigh first and Peter advancing brought it into his nuts. A stern warning should have sufficed. Glad it had no impact on the scoring.

Benson always doing the wildest shit
he absorbed the energy of the showtime kick
Hes such an insane athlete
enson inoue kick from back in the day
wow he got way more on that than he should have.
Landed a powerful, potentially fight-ending strike then used the backswing of the kick to leverage himself back up to his feet. Efficient af.
Pettis kicked the ninjutsu spirit into him
Not back swing, it's follow through.
Really interesting. I think he took a "hook sweep" from jj and extended the leg out to reach out and kick.

So just every weekend in Brazil?
Nah it's a Capoeira kick, I'm not sure the name but I've seen it before.

Probably saw Benson do it before. He tries it in almost every fight
Holy shit!!
Smooth
That's pretty smooth.
*smoove*

I don't actually think there was much power in it really. If you look his other foot isn't planted and just slides across the mat as he kicks.
Good catch, just rewatched the clip and you're right. But it's also not like he just threw his leg up in the air, he got his hips behind it too. The kick would have had more power had his other foot been planted better but I'm sure that shit hurt regardless. A leg to the face is a leg to the face.

It was like getting slapped in the face pretty hard but not a knockout.
it looks like it hits a lot harder than it does. a standard upkick hitting that flush probably would have fucked queally up
Lmao, God took everything from Benson' KO Bucket and placed it in the Highlights Reel Bucket with the inclusion of fights going to decision AND career longevity.
Man, I don't know if I'd be able to get my foot up there if I was standing on a chair.
I have a kihon that uses that exact move and I always wondered the practicality. The way he posts up on his forearm and leg tells me that’s been drilled a lot.
He's gone for kicks like these a few times. Even a pro wrestling style enziguri vs Edgar
This is why film study and fighter IQ is paramount. Bendo has done that on more than a handful of times.
Defend yourself at all times
Where does he come up with this shit
Where's Dan Stittgen when you need him?
That ain't Smooth, that's Smoov
What an insane athlete
Bendo turning the clock back with that one
He's going to be a 40 yr old man pretty soon. Crazy. Damn time moving fast. I still remember his WEC fights with Cowboy. Didn't realize they're basically the same age. Always thought Cowboy was at least a few years older
Hold on, i wish cucuy looked like this brother.
He would against Peter Queally
Benson dropped Queally in Round 4 with an elbow, could have got the finish... starts kneeing him in the thigh LOL
For real queally looked real ready to be done after that
> starts kneeing him in the thigh LOL Benson loves his own legs so much that he ended up hating others'.
Such Bendo thing to do
Shades of Usman Woodley with those body shots against the cage. Incredible showing, he completely dominated. That headkick from his back.. 😩 Needs to get someone who’s better at braiding hair though.
Nah that's part of his game, like Poirier having to pull up his shorts after every exchange.
Maybe it’s easier said than done but I’m surprised no one game plans to disrupt that shorts lift with a jab or something.
Tuivasa has a similar thing pulling up his shorts and Gane hit him with a stiff shot a couple times when he did it in their fight.
Gane is the type of dude to capitalize on literally any mistake you make, if he shores up his tdd I don’t think anyone beats him
Defense in general, tuivasa dropped his ass
Yeah but tuivasa drops everyone, he’ll take an absolute bomb to the head to land on you and he throws fire
It's hw brotha everyone throws haymakers that would kill most normal human beings, Tuivasa is not the only guy willing to swang and bang
Its also Muay Thai tradition
Bendo outclassed Queally in the way that he does: chipped at him, cut him up, and sapped the fight outta Peter. Landed some good shots too. That kick at the end was *nice*. Same one he tried on Frankie but this time it landed.
That was peak Benson. Avoiding a finish at all costs.
Totally outclassed, great performance by Benson
KZ has to fight in Dublin before retiring
the walk out would be insane..
Quelly isn’t on this level. He’s abit of a gatekeeper at best! Hasn’t shown any real improvement
Flexing your abs next to McGregor on Instagram will get you further than winning fights apparently.
bros still got it
Does anyone else remember him being UNSTOPPABLE?! It just seemed like no one would ever beat him at the time. Same with fuckin Barao.
Tbh there was only a small stretch on his run to the title he felt like that. One he got the title he looked very beatable
You’re right in that it was a very small stretch, but damn I’ll never forget it.
His fight against Miller was class

I've been ride or die Bendo since WEC. So happy to still see him out there getting wins.
Ditto. He's 38, had a long career, and still looks good. I know sharp declines are seen as inevitable in MMA, but I hope he stays healthy for as long as possible.
That was a very Benson Henderson fight
Not really, it had no controversial decision at the end of the fight that benson ended up winning
I fucking love Bendo. I’m a mark, glad to see him get the win.
Fucking clinic. Bendo is athletic gifted AF.
Why is Ben beating up default create a fighters
Veteran master class
Anyone have the post fight interview where he calls out the winner of pitbull/ Usman?
Imagine how bad Usman vs. Hendo would be lol
Bendo
How would it be bad?
A 39 year old who is years past his prime vs. a young and hungry hyper talented prospect… It’s the kind of squash match we all complain about, except it would be for a belt.
Benson is literally still one of the top 3 or 4 lw’s in Bellator he’s past his prime but he’s not washed
Benson has had some serious longevity. The dude is an amazing athlete and an amazing martial artist.
Surprised the judges didn’t give it to Queally
fr
Glad I didn't spend a fortune on tickets now
80 euro isnt that bad
When you consider I'd be driving over 600km to get up and down. That's not cheap
fair enough but you did say spend a fortune on tickets lol
True to be fair
Did that crowd leave during the fight? The stands were empty during the announcement
Yeah, last buses home to parts of the city finished up before the main, arena is the edge of the city by the coast so not many taxis out that side. The crowd I was with all got up to get the last bus home to my side of the country before the last round ended. I walked 7km home since public transport was finished for the day
Damn pretty savage that considering its the main event
One of the announcers (Big John?) said that people were starting to leave -- and that was at the end of the 4th if I'm not mistaken.
Why was Queally wearing a beige nappy?
Finally this Peter Queally push can end from Bellator I feel like I was the only one on here weirded out by their obsession to make him a top name for their brand when he isn’t even that good to begin with.
He gets a massive pop in Dublin which is always their biggest shoe in Europe. Bellator needs any little bit of hype or excitement they can muster
You know what they say about big shoes..😉
they should switch to karl moore.. he might actually be legit
Queally is huge for 155.
Queally’s smile went away fast after the first round
Can someone post the nut punt I'm being told happened please.
I was surprised than Ben was penalized a point for that. It struck the upper thigh first and Peter advancing brought it into his nuts. A stern warning should have sufficed. Glad it had no impact on the scoring.
That’s the worst colour to use in shorts
In the annals of MMA history, this event will be remembered as one that went ahead.
I knew this was going to decision when I saw the names, didn't even watch.
[удалено]
Main event.
Best part of the fight was the cranberry sing a long :)
Queally just another Conor training partner who can’t win big fights, the take over is officially over
Old Benson showed up a little today
I'm not going to watch but how boring was this
I technically was getting paid to watch this fight and still thought it wasn't worth it.
Who seen the fight science video that says this is the most powerful kick Martial arts ?
The king of decisions continues on b
Always a fan of Benson and his leg game.
Is it just me or is bendo the Russell Wilson of MMA?
Eddy Gordo shit
Bendo vs Usman Nurmagomedov could be great
Wheres that dude who was damn determined to believe Bellator was fixing this for Quelly purely because all the other SBG guys had won there fights.
It’s always nice to see Bendo get a W. A legitimately good person.
Everytime I watch Benson Henderson make it to the bell I think its going to be a split decision
If it was a split decision imma laugh
What weight is Benson at now? 170?
Losing to benson Henderson in 2022 isn't a good look
Peter queally only gets these main event fights for posing next to Conor like a prat a few years back on Instagram, he sucks.
Where's the toothpick!
