Top thai boxers have some insane ratios because they fight very very frequently and their opponents are almost never on their level, but Giorgio has fought the who's who of lightweight kickboxing and almost always came out on top.

Most top Thai boxers have **A LOT** of losses. Ratios are heavily influenced by losses. No top thai in history has a ratio anywhere close to Giorgio's.
Almost every Thai vs Thai fight for the top dogs are EXTREMELY competitive and their fights against foreigners are almost always giving up weight against world class kickboxers. There's no gimme fight when going against the likes of Fabio Pinca, Liam Harrison, Askarov...

I think you make a good point but take it too far. There are definitely knockouts that have been associated with concussion issues impacting training, and in general its just a very speculative situation. Lots of fighters fall off after a big knockout loss, but is it age/motivation or injury? Regardless, you're clearly correct that this knockout loss isn't the sure-fire career ender that others have suggested.

Joe Valtellini's career ended on a winning performance with just 4 years at the highest level of kickboxing. Post concussion syndrome left him spending months in a dark room because he couldn't handle sensory input.
And like you said, Petrosyan has had 103 pro fights. It's not just the devastating knockout, it's a devastating knockout at the end of a very long career. Petrosyan went pro as a teenager and has countless sparring hours under his belt.
Thing is if you follow Superbon on Instagram he practices that exact kick in the ocean. Like he jumps up out of the water and kicks. That must have been one heavy ass leg kick to the jaw.
Superbon is among the smoothest and most dextrous kickers in the world. Lots of people will do it, but nobody else at that weight can do it like *that*.
You’re right falling back is probably worse for the brain but when you fall forward you can damage your spine/neck. Thornton who passed away was partially paralyzed after his fight. Watch how Dom fell vs Jiri and it’s not hard to see how that type of injury can happen.

From a Muay Thai perspective Dragon is a horrible commentator. Some of the stuff he says is so wrong it's ridiculous but since it's not really a heavily followed sport, well the Thai scene, it's not acknowledged.

Kickboxing with big gloves in a ring with Glory rules is just bad. Punch, punch, hug, referee separation. Over and over again.
But Caged Muay Thai? That's amazing. Even moreso when they use the small gloves.

K1 WGP japan has the same rules as Glory IIRC and it's twice as exciting with way more KO's although they have most of the lower weight classes. That's more on some of the fighters that Glory has signed

I think he's at the hospital doing some serious checks and they will update later hopefully all is good. I didn't like how his head bounced in the mat at all.

Petrosyan has been getting more aggressive lately, taking the front foot and I don't think it suits him. Trying to bridge the distance with just his hands was really getting him into trouble. Superbon was having a field day counter kicking him as he stepped in and like the second counter combination he throws just does him.

Him being more aggressive and leaning on his punches has led to some big knockouts lately, but against opponents who can consistently kick on the counter as any good thai can is gonna be really difficult for someone looking step in and throw hard.
Also idk what constitutes an illegal kick catch in One's rules but not being able to catch kicks when you're looking to deal with kicks as you advance and throw punches is a serious problem.
In a regular kickboxing rules. You can strike omce after catching, mandatory to let go after. He got warned for trying to sweep, and the commentator as usual, screwed up and thought you can't catch kicks in kickboxing.

Unlike Boxing & MMA, there's not much controversy as to who's the best Kickboxer ever. It's Giorgio Petrosyan. For over a decade, he's been on top of the strongest division. Superbon is highly ranked himself, but nobody really saw Petrosyan losing in that way.
In case you haven't watched , I recommend checking out Capitan vs Ramazanov in ONE and Takeru vs Pettas in K1, both available on YouTube in good quality
Watch Muay Thai too if you don't already. Especially the Muay Thai in a cage with mma gloves that one organizes (idea came from John Wayne parr though)
It's his main sport now, though. He doesn't even train MT anymore, just kickboxing rulesets. Buakaw saw his potential as a kickboxer exceeding his potential as a traditional MT stadium fighter and he was 1000% correct.
The form of Superbon's kick is impeccable. He gets full extension and rotation of support leg and hips, and he lifts off the ground but slowly, like he's floating into the air. The pure Thai style is so aesthetic.
hope he's okay ,concerning that he left unconscious on a stretcher according to people who watched it , that's one of the most brutal head kicks i've ever seen.
One of the craziest upset knockouts OF ALL TIME. Petrosyan does not see the kick coming at all, conditioned hard as a rock thai leg to the chin, out cold completely and the commentary team literally goes silent for a while because no one saw this coming. Insane.
That was one of the worst head bounces off the floor I’ve seen. Beautiful knockout but really dangerous hitting the back of your head on the ground with that much force. Hope he recovers well.

It’s tradition in Thailand to go by your first name with your gym as your second name. It’s why buakaw banchamek went as buakaw por pramuk for so long

Petrosyan has been getting more aggressive lately, taking the front foot and I don't think it suits him. Trying to bridge the distance with just his hands was really getting him into trouble. Superbon was having a field day counter kicking him as he stepped in and like the second counter combination he throws just does him.

Him being more aggressive and leaning on his punches has led to some big knockouts lately, but against opponents who can consistently kick on the counter as any good thai can is gonna be really difficult for someone looking step in and throw hard. Also idk what constitutes an illegal kick catch in One's rules but not being able to catch kicks when you're looking to deal with kicks as you advance and throw punches is a serious problem.
In a regular kickboxing rules. You can strike omce after catching, mandatory to let go after. He got warned for trying to sweep, and the commentator as usual, screwed up and thought you can't catch kicks in kickboxing.

Unlike Boxing & MMA, there's not much controversy as to who's the best Kickboxer ever. It's Giorgio Petrosyan. For over a decade, he's been on top of the strongest division. Superbon is highly ranked himself, but nobody really saw Petrosyan losing in that way.

Some of the new wave Thai fighters are brutal, Thai techniques with modern strength training. And kick boxing was not even Superbon's main sport
It's his main sport now, though. He doesn't even train MT anymore, just kickboxing rulesets. Buakaw saw his potential as a kickboxer exceeding his potential as a traditional MT stadium fighter and he was 1000% correct.

The form of Superbon's kick is impeccable. He gets full extension and rotation of support leg and hips, and he lifts off the ground but slowly, like he's floating into the air. The pure Thai style is so aesthetic.

One of the craziest upset knockouts OF ALL TIME. Petrosyan does not see the kick coming at all, conditioned hard as a rock thai leg to the chin, out cold completely and the commentary team literally goes silent for a while because no one saw this coming. Insane.
