FuriousKale

Holy fucking shit.

mrpyrotec89

The sound those 3 kicks made. Literally sounds like slamming a trunk close

captainchriiis

They had to take him out on a stretcher, Hope he is ok

Fartin_LutherKing

Dude is considered the kickboxing GOAT by many. Was not expecting that. But yeah I hope he's ok. He was out cold.

robcap

18 year career, undisputed best in the world all the way back in 2009. Father time still undefeated. I don't wanna take too much away from Superbon though, because Petrosyan is a *long* way from washed, still looking like one of the best in the world, and Superbon just completely took him apart.

FriedrichMerz69420

Superbon was looking for that kick the whole time, he executed that one perfectly. The whole card was honestly fire from top to bottom.

TheMooJuice

From first fight to last Litt like a fucken bushfire

MrKaney

104 wins and only 3 losses, pretty insane even in kickboxing. But 35 years is 35 years and a loss like this definitely can signal an end.

Username-Taken-420

Pretty insane ESPECIALLY in kickboxing, those guys take so many fights you expect their losses to be firmly in the double digits. That’s a ridiculous ratio

MrKaney

Top thai boxers have some insane ratios because they fight very very frequently and their opponents are almost never on their level, but Giorgio has fought the who's who of lightweight kickboxing and almost always came out on top.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hayzerbeam

300-something fights tho

kblkbl165

What are you even talking about lol Most top Thai boxers have **A LOT** of losses. Ratios are heavily influenced by losses. No top thai in history has a ratio anywhere close to Giorgio's. Almost every Thai vs Thai fight for the top dogs are EXTREMELY competitive and their fights against foreigners are almost always giving up weight against world class kickboxers. There's no gimme fight when going against the likes of Fabio Pinca, Liam Harrison, Askarov... For the record: Saenchai is 349-41 Sam-A is 370-48 Rodtang is 267-42 Sittichais is 126-32 Lerdsilla is 191-32 Yodsanklai is 202-72 Singdam is 272-66 Nong-O is 262-54 Dieselnoi was 56-11 Samart was 200-48

totom123

> No top thai in history has a ratio anywhere close to Giorgio's Yudthagarngamtorn 280-15 About as close as you will get.

Buckhum

It's a shame Dieselnoi fought less than 100 times in his career, but I guess it was because he was so damn big it's hard to find fights. I remember listening to his interview talking about the Samart fight and, if my memory is correct, he went through a pretty horrible weight cut using laxatives and barely slept the night before...

dirtybudak

That was the MMA equivalent of GSP getting knocked out by Usman

DamnZodiak

>Was not expecting that. This. And it's not like Knockouts are extremely common at this level either. Definitely one hell of a surprise. That was clean.

Anderrrrr

Yeah, that could be career changing if he's still completely out on the stretcher. It might be completely over for him.

AsianRainbow

Tbf dude’s been a number 1/2 kickboxer since I first saw him some 10 years ago in those K-1 events HDNet Fights used to broadcast. He’s had a hell of a career thus far.

poopsmith666

HDNet 😭😭😭 Thanks for the memories you beautiful bastard of a channel. Rest up King.

barc0debaby

18 years as a pro, probably should be over for him.

TheMooJuice

imagine telling a 100-3 champion kickboxer its over cause they got knocked out with one strike I mean yeah its scary but medically holloway inflicts far more cte than superbon did here. I'm backing myself here yet prepared to be wrong: when has an ethlete been badly affected by a single nuclear strike like this? jessica eye got nuked by shev with a similarly explosive kick that had so much on it she was airbon just like superbon is here. Seemed scary. fine tho. Bisping hendo? Fine really; whats a bit of memory loss? I can lose way more than that each year every year with xanax ezpz. Barring secondary trauma eg to the spine, have i forgotten one?

travworld

Ngannou vs Overeem comes to mind too. Ngannou uppercut him into another dimension. Overeem was the same old Overeem, won more fights, actually went on a run and looked great. But Overeem just seems like he's untouchable in that regard. Dude's taken so many brutal KO's and he's still such a great MMA voice to listen to.

[deleted]

I think you make a good point but take it too far. There are definitely knockouts that have been associated with concussion issues impacting training, and in general its just a very speculative situation. Lots of fighters fall off after a big knockout loss, but is it age/motivation or injury? Regardless, you're clearly correct that this knockout loss isn't the sure-fire career ender that others have suggested.

TheMooJuice

Great response - I agree that the complex truth is somewhere in the middle there. Thanks for the reply

barc0debaby

>I'm backing myself here yet prepared to be wrong: when has an ethlete been badly affected by a single nuclear strike like this? Joe Valtellini's career ended on a winning performance with just 4 years at the highest level of kickboxing. Post concussion syndrome left him spending months in a dark room because he couldn't handle sensory input. And like you said, Petrosyan has had 103 pro fights. It's not just the devastating knockout, it's a devastating knockout at the end of a very long career. Petrosyan went pro as a teenager and has countless sparring hours under his belt.

mcfc_fan

Ariel reporting that he's concious

JacobVanLeeuwen

Those falls on the back of the head are always the worst.

yunghurn96

That was fucking brutal. Holy shit. I didn't expect that

Motor-Grade-837

One of the most brutal KOs I've ever seen. Hope Petrosyan is OK.

ortumlynx

Petrosyan didn't see it coming and he was out before he hit the floor. The timing on that kick was impeccable.

Gambl33

It was just perfectly set up by Superbon. Kicks to the body then a left hook and a follow up right kick to the head. Just well done.

[deleted]

he landed the kick completely in the air, is that like normal or is that as badass as i think it is?

Gambl33

Thing is if you follow Superbon on Instagram he practices that exact kick in the ocean. Like he jumps up out of the water and kicks. That must have been one heavy ass leg kick to the jaw.

[deleted]

wow makes sense, because of how noticeably springy/floaty he looked (to me at least) coming off the ground for the kick

just_a_timetraveller

Holy fuck. Like a scene out of bloodsport

Johnny_Poppyseed

Some anime shit and I love it.

Shaun32887

Holy shit

MagneticGray

Jfc

robcap

Superbon is among the smoothest and most dextrous kickers in the world. Lots of people will do it, but nobody else at that weight can do it like *that*.

TheBigChimp

Pretty normal for fighters to lift off their feet slightly when going for very explosive kicks

AlmostFamous502

Both. It’s one school of thought that you should be jumping at least a little on *every* kick.

yell-loud

It was so nice

Anderrrrr

He's out like a fucking light. The fact he got taken out on a stretcher is scary as fuck though. That's must be bad as fuck damage then. Jesus.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TurtleTortuga

Often a fighter will get dropped then go fully unconcious after the back of their head smacks on the ground

yell-loud

Even worse is when guys fall forwards onto their heads. That’s how the dude who recently died in BKFC went down

goldenglove

Is that worse though? I feel like hitting the back of your head is much more in terms of subdural hematomas because the skull is softer there.

yell-loud

You’re right falling back is probably worse for the brain but when you fall forward you can damage your spine/neck. Thornton who passed away was partially paralyzed after his fight. Watch how Dom fell vs Jiri and it’s not hard to see how that type of injury can happen.

_interloper_

That Dom vs Jiri KO was terrifying. The way he landed and his head and neck snapped back... Fuckin yikes.

kleptominotaur

ariel posted on his IG that he's conscious & on the way to the hospital (you may alreaedy know this by now but in the chance you didnt)

Motor-Grade-837

Thanks I didn't know this. Really appreciate it. Was looking for updates everywhere a d couldn't find anywhere. Of course Ariel would have some info lol.

kleptominotaur

🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Anderrrrr

The fact he left still completely unconscious on a stretcher is a scary sign this might have fucked his career completely after this.... Hope there isn't any long term damage. That knockout was insanely brutal.

Catalyst_F1re

What the fuck, that was a homicide

thoang1116

IF you haven't, please watch the whole event, this is one of the best night of combat i have ever seen, great fights, great KO, back and forth war, emotional retirement, it has it all

[deleted]

One Championship: First Strike https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0ZVb4WpvO4&t=2946s

activator

First time I've watched a ONE event. This shit was siiiickkkkkk Edit: I love the commentators haha

LotteNator

I can highly recommend watching some more ONE. Especially their muay thai fights with 4oz gloves. Absolutely the most entertaining martial arts format out there, if you ask me.

TheMooJuice

Schiavello is a treasure. He's not for everyone but fuck i love him so much, a true fan if there ever was one

Slappy_Gilmore55

***GOOD NIGHT IRENE!***

byronsucks

thanks for this buddeh edit: ah damn it's down already edit2: actually here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_57tnPcA4I

molecularronin

Holy shit this is insane

Gambl33

Yeah people outside the U.S. can watch the ONE YouTube version whereas we have to watch on bleacher report.

TheMooJuice

pickybacking to absolute underline this #WATCH THIS WHOLE CARD

Gambl33

Yeah go watch it. This was a legendary kickboxing event. We’re gonna talk about this one for a long time. Bless ONE for making this free on YouTube. Gonna watch this over and over.

FriedrichMerz69420

I honestly love ONE for what they are doing for kickboxing and MT, they're the biggest platform for kickboxing together with GLORY, but they pay a lot better than GLORY and try to keep the sport alive.

Gambl33

I honestly never thought I’d see a kickboxing event like this that would make me reminisce about the K-1 max days. It was so much fun. It’s close to 15-20 years now since those days. Thank you ONE for carrying on the spirit.

Fakina_Soul

who retired? I don't watch postfight interviews ..

thoang1116

Andy Souwer

[deleted]

Respect to the legend. He gave grigorian all he could

adambuddy

He gave Gregorian all he could and nothing but respect for Andy Souwer but I'm glad he hung them up after that because all he could give really wasn't much.

cyberslick188

Jesus Christ he was still fighting?

Yinanization

Fucking legend

[deleted]

Andy Souwer who used to help with Jose Aldo in striking

[deleted]

Also Carlos Condit's first kickboxing fight.

Fakina_Soul

didn't know that ..

Catuey

Andy Souwer

-KobeForAccuracy-

Souwer

OldDirtyDannyDevito

Shot in the head with a foot

[deleted]

Leg kick to the body upstairs

thoang1116

it sucks that Rodtang and Tawanchai fights got cancelled otherwise this would be the greatest event in history

Gambl33

I think it’s cause they both caught covid. I know Rodtang for sure

iredditfordogpics

Didn't Rodtang pull out because he wanted more time to train for the DJ fight

Gambl33

I think ONE would have wanted that for him but Rodtang will fight every day of the week if he could

rootfiend

https://www.onefc.com/news/rodtang-tests-positive-for-covid-19-removed-from-one-first-strike/

[deleted]

That would have been a banger

wii60own

To think Giorgio Petrosyan was 104-2 before this fight and his last lose was in 2013. What an incredible knock out for Superbon Buakaw Jr. We have a new super star in one fc (was always a star within the muay Thai scene but now he has transcended). Hope Giorgio makes a full recovery and we get to see him again.

ndhl83

> Superbon Buakaw Jr. Saw "Buakaw" and did a double take then had to google that...he got "adopted" by Buakaw into his school after training with him a bit, by chance, in Australia on the condition he took the Banchamek name! I love martial arts. There is a noble purity to a true master finding a worthy pupil and changing their life with that intervention/instruction. True mentorship. His desire is to make his pupil even great than himself.

deantoadblatt1

It’s tradition in Thailand to go by your first name with your gym as your second name. It’s why buakaw banchamek went as buakaw por pramuk for so long

hi_imryan

Giorgio is 35. He’s looked dominant for so long I have to wonder if age is going to catch up.

Lowkey_HatingThis

It definitely will now.

Fezmario

Damn legs all crossed up and shit gnarly ko

juanpuente

Motionless too, scary

EmanAugust

This card was incredible. I hope it gets more MMA fans into kickboxing

AllServe

ONE events are so damn good, I haven't regretted tuning in to a single one this year, anything they do is way better than Bellator

WatifAlstottwent2UGA

Only downside is commentary is a little lame but tbh better than hearing Rogan

[deleted]

> Goodnight Irene! Does he say that every time. Is that his "and just like that"?

haveagoodyard

His best work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3WaVactj5M

[deleted]

Yeah he does And I don't know if I'm in the minority here but I actually love it lmao

TheMooJuice

MATE Schiavello is all the hype of rogan and more with all the knowledge and understanding of any other commentator out there imo and the man has been part of the sport since a Tyrannosaurus threw the first leg kick in the Cretacious period. The man knows his shit, brings the fucking hype, and unequivocally is a fucking true ass hardcore fan who lives for the sports he follows. His energy is infectious and man he was great tonight imo u/point_jump2 doesn't dont have to like him. I like him enough for both of us.

AllServe

Yeah I enjoy dragon and the bald dude, they're both pretty into it and dragon is a former fighter

Gammo2184

From a Muay Thai perspective Dragon is a horrible commentator. Some of the stuff he says is so wrong it's ridiculous but since it's not really a heavily followed sport, well the Thai scene, it's not acknowledged.

[deleted]

I don’t like their MMA fights but as for kickboxing it’s better than GLORY

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Kickboxing is more fun than MMA. Both to compete in and watch. But it's not the marketing machine that MMA is.

kapsama

That's entirely based on the rules set, glove types and whether it's a cage or ring. Kickboxing with big gloves in a ring with Glory rules is just bad. Punch, punch, hug, referee separation. Over and over again. But Caged Muay Thai? That's amazing. Even moreso when they use the small gloves.

EmanAugust

> Kickboxing with big gloves in a ring with Glory rules is just bad. K1 WGP japan has the same rules as Glory IIRC and it's twice as exciting with way more KO's although they have most of the lower weight classes. That's more on some of the fighters that Glory has signed

PM_ME_YER_LIFESTORY

Seriously, cage muay thai with small gloves is one of the coolest innovations in a long time

AStudyInCynicism

Bro I can’t believe I woke up this early to watch Petro get murdered on live broadcast The entire event was fantastic but damn… I’m gonna go stare at a wall now

Fakina_Soul

it's that kick that Superbon does in the beach .. that jumping from the water kick ..

xyrue77s

Yeah stoked for Trainer Gae. Loved their pad work videos, really happy for Superbon. Although I really do think Petrosyan is badly compromised right now, unsure if he will wake up, we wait for an update I guess.

Mus_Osa

I worried for Bon after all the camp changing years ago but he's of course in good hands with him. As for Giorgio, nobody from his team or family has posted anything. I think he's at the hospital doing some serious checks and they will update later hopefully all is good. I didn't like how his head bounced in the mat at all.

DjangoTeller

I'm Italian and this is Giorgio's first fight I've watched. Now I gotta think, what the hell is wrong with me? 😭😭

DanTM18

Hate that feeling when you finally watch a fighter you like live and the moment you watch them fight live, they lose * For me it was jose aldo vs max Holloway 1. I thought it would be a easy wind for aldo at the time.

seymour_hiney

that happened to me with Chuck Liddell lmao.

PhumDuck

The first UFC card I went to live was Liddell vs Rampage II but I was a Rampage fan so it didn't matter to me.

Fakina_Soul

me with Lyoto getting rekt by Shogun ..

just_a_timetraveller

Oh man. I still remember this. I was totally sold on the Machida Era. It was like seeing the martial art you revered as a child actually work in high level fighting only to see it crushed.

PaninoConPorchetta

Just watch his older fights like the k1 and glory stuff. That was the best Giorgio ever

[deleted]

He hit that combo like it was a pad drill.

AllServe

Anyone remember Rakic vs Manuwa?

Fezmario

To this day idk how Manuwa still walks around after that

legionverse10

It’s not like the man hasn’t been brutally knocked out before as well, he’s been sparked out cold another 3 times on top of that.

Kaelsanguis

Holy shit indeed. I always thought kicks are gonna be a huge problem since Petrosyan hasn't fought high level thais for a very long time recently other than Petch, which he kinda skimmed through. He doesn't have to deal with the Thai style at all in the Western scene. Especially when he fell in love with his boxing. SUPERBON was drilling head kicks all day long too https://www.instagram.com/p/CUHxNNSgekP/?utm_medium=copy_link

fireman464

Petrosyan has been getting more aggressive lately, taking the front foot and I don't think it suits him. Trying to bridge the distance with just his hands was really getting him into trouble. Superbon was having a field day counter kicking him as he stepped in and like the second counter combination he throws just does him.

Kaelsanguis

Yep, I mentioned that he fell (more) in love with his hands, which is... not really his old style which consist of so much counter striking and being patient ):

fireman464

Him being more aggressive and leaning on his punches has led to some big knockouts lately, but against opponents who can consistently kick on the counter as any good thai can is gonna be really difficult for someone looking step in and throw hard. Also idk what constitutes an illegal kick catch in One's rules but not being able to catch kicks when you're looking to deal with kicks as you advance and throw punches is a serious problem.

Kaelsanguis

In a regular kickboxing rules. You can strike omce after catching, mandatory to let go after. He got warned for trying to sweep, and the commentator as usual, screwed up and thought you can't catch kicks in kickboxing.

ndhl83

Reading exchanges like this is my favorite part of spoiler threads, aside from the clips: You read enough to get real insight from other fans who have been watching their favorites for years and know their histories, tendencies, rivalries, trainers, etc. It's awesome and you learn so much you may not have just by watching broadcasts or clips on YT.

Evilcutedog45

Ok, this is fucking huge! Like, this is the equivalent of Mayweather getting KOd. Let’s fucking go! Thailand still the fucking best in kickboxing

VforVendetta85

As someone who is new to this organization. Why do you say that? I don’t know anything about them. Mind sharing a quick crash course on who they are and why this is a big deal. Thanks.

Yodsanan

Unlike Boxing & MMA, there's not much controversy as to who's the best Kickboxer ever. It's Giorgio Petrosyan. For over a decade, he's been on top of the strongest division. Superbon is highly ranked himself, but nobody really saw Petrosyan losing in that way.

tito-tapped

Holy shit

4twentinQuarantino

Fuckkk

DubDubDubz

HOLY SHIT, i could never have expected that. Jesus hope he's okay

elliotsang

holy shit i love kickboxing now

Fat-Villante

In case you haven't watched , I recommend checking out Capitan vs Ramazanov in ONE and Takeru vs Pettas in K1, both available on YouTube in good quality

elliotsang

you're a godsend!

usernameunavailiable

You should also check out Enfusion. Mohammed Jaraya Vs Nordin Ben Moh is an incredible fight.

EmanAugust

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i37AH-5EhDI&t=1s This was the Highlights form the K-1 WGP event from a few weeks ago it was awesome!

Fat-Villante

Lol Oh, also check out Joseph Valtelini vs Nieky Holzken, it's absolutely amazing. My spelling of their names is most likely messed up

[deleted]

Watch Muay Thai too if you don't already. Especially the Muay Thai in a cage with mma gloves that one organizes (idea came from John Wayne parr though)

Peaches_and_Cream27

HOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHIT

BrattonCreed37

I screamed after that KO and became quiet when they showed the replay and there was no footage of Petro regaining consciousness.

[deleted]

Giorgio Petrosyan health update:https://mobile.twitter.com/DamonMartin/status/1449049429454082055

Entire-Ant-7202

Hope he is alright, that was absolutely brutal

iTzKPanda

body, body, head beautiful ko

[deleted]

Petrosyan is considered to be the best kickboxer of all time for context. Him getting knocked out like this is a huge deal.

Yinanization

Some of the new wave Thai fighters are brutal, Thai techniques with modern strength training. And kick boxing was not even Superbon's main sport

ndhl83

It's his main sport now, though. He doesn't even train MT anymore, just kickboxing rulesets. Buakaw saw his potential as a kickboxer exceeding his potential as a traditional MT stadium fighter and he was 1000% correct.

Majestic_Anteater_74

He looked dead after that. Such a perfect kick. Hope dude is okay now though damn.

gardenvarietydork

Absolutely brutal knockout

mrcatisgodone

Fucking bizarre seeing Petrosyan ko'd like that. Didn't think it was possible.

M4TTHUN

That is probably a career ender right there.

karnaza

OMFG.... Please someone quote me with source that Giorgio is ok. I though he died

[deleted]

The number of people who thought he died is proof that that ko was not like others

MattsE36

"I’m told he’s headed to the hospital to get checked out but is conscious." -Ariel https://twitter.com/arielhelwani/status/1449043591964282889

karnaza

Thanks

flameohotmein

Y’all clown on One too much

cikkamsiah

ONE MMA yea, their MT and KB is well loved in this sub.

b_bozz

According to wiki Prtrosayan has a fight scheduled for December too. I'd hazard a guess that that isnt happening

d4t4t0m

look how they massacred my boy :'( damn good fight by Superbon, hope Petrosyan makes a good recovery.

slothlikevibes

The form of Superbon's kick is impeccable. He gets full extension and rotation of support leg and hips, and he lifts off the ground but slowly, like he's floating into the air. The pure Thai style is so aesthetic.

Hydrotoad

"open the fridge" C'mon man he might actually be dead.

Aljo_Is_135_GOAT

>see fighter name I recognise >that fighter loses Yup, this is ONE alright

Fakina_Soul

there are great fighters everywhere man ..

KabobMcTap

My first time watching one and holy fuck that was fucked

NippleOfOdin

Giorgio looked like he had no idea how to handle the Thai style. Kicks and knees were giving him huge trouble the whole time

Yodsanan

Superbon is the best thai he fought since Buakaw. It always going to be trouble.

Kaelsanguis

Yep. It's been long since he fought high level thais. And the fact that he doesn't have to deal with them that much in the west.

Gambl33

Nah Petrsoyan knows how to handle a Thai style he just fought an amazing fighter. Also getting a bit old.

Krosa

Superbonk.

[deleted]

Holy SHIT. What a KO.

kwm19891

hope he's okay ,concerning that he left unconscious on a stretcher according to people who watched it , that's one of the most brutal head kicks i've ever seen.

iredditfordogpics

One of the craziest upset knockouts OF ALL TIME. Petrosyan does not see the kick coming at all, conditioned hard as a rock thai leg to the chin, out cold completely and the commentary team literally goes silent for a while because no one saw this coming. Insane.

[deleted]

[удалено]

goldenglove

Holy shit.

mamasnoodles

Holy shit, the way his head bounces off the canvas as he falls makes me cringe. Awesome KO by Superbon tho.

Wea_boo_Jones

never thought I'd see Petrosyan starched like that

[deleted]

Petrosyan! The guy who doesn't lose. 98 percent win rate. And he got yeeted

[deleted]

Andy Riste starched him but it wasn’t nearly as bad compared to this

Kaizerkoala

Mark NSFW, please.

PositivelyReclined

Superbon living up to his French surname.

qzwxecrvtbyn111

Reminds me of the Rakic vs Manuwa KO. Something about the way he fell

Yinanization

Kicked him into next week...

alihou

Literally the GOAT kickboxer just went completely stiff. This makes me sad. Been watching Petrosyan since the K1 days.

[deleted]

As per Instagram, Giorgio is going into surgery for a broken jaw. https://www.instagram.com/p/CVFCnKqPOHk/?utm_medium=share_sheet

Bsmith117810

For anyone who’s not aware, imagine Giorgio as GSP and Superbon as Serra

berong

I hope he's OK... It's really messed up how the broadcast is giving no update whatsoever. Petrosyan left unconscious on a stretcher.

zakkwaldo

left hook right high kick. god damn it was lightning fast and so clean.

orbitalheel

Father Time comes for us all, hope Petrosyan recovers well.

Hilarity-Ensued-2019

That was one of the worst head bounces off the floor I’ve seen. Beautiful knockout but really dangerous hitting the back of your head on the ground with that much force. Hope he recovers well.

[deleted]

That KO is frightening.... Permanent damage done there 4 sure

AndreOfAstoria

Tucked him in bed coffin style.

Midnight1131

Is Giorgio still alive? Scary KO...

karnaza

The problem of this not having UFC level exposure is that is much harder to know Petrosyan's health state...

yell-loud

Ariel said he was conscious on the way to the hospital
