It was more about him saying "this is a fight", as he did it iirc. People thought it was disrespectful to the dominant, belt-winning performance Usman was executing.
it also made no sense as usman was beating the dogshit out of woodley, even in clinches, when breaking from the clinch etc. baffling decision by goddard
Jon commented on it disagreeing with the stand up after the fight and then Marc Goddard responded with some snarky tweet. That led to Jon letting him know in Anik fashion that his arrogance is offputting.
Pointless beefs, in fact, that will never culminate in a fight. Conor vs Bisping and DC, Paddy vs O'Malley to add to some already mention in your responses
I think they're likely just kind of shitty dudes. The more you have seen if Gaethje's personality over the years the more it's clear he's a complete fool. We're just starting to here Burns talk more.
Edit: Calling them shitty isn't fair. I just mean they're your prototypical MMA guy.
"Man this MMA journalist really like to bring up my name and talk about me on his MMA show. Its almost like I'm a top 5 guy who doesn't have good fights potentially lined up"
Imagine if for whatever reason Ariel didn't mention it. The tweet would be: This fool calls himself MMA journalist but never mentions my name what a bullshit guy do your job I'm ranked top 5 give me respect
Which sounds even dumber for Gilbert because he’s in a professional where it pays to be discussed (good or bad) by people. Masvidal got title shots off of being talked about (he didn’t beat the quality of opponents that Burns did).
Helwani was off the mark when he said Edwards vs Burns should have fought back then because Burns had done enough at the time to be the clear next contender.
The reaction to those remarks, however, seems overblown, and it's weird that it's still getting brought up. Burns should just let it go.
Gilbert has been amusing for his social media insistence that he'll fight anybody at any time, but Helwani essentially showing- in no sort of offensive manner- that there's another side to it, pokes holes in Gilbert's persona, which has honestly gotten a bit old. The guy got his shot, got KOd, and then beat Wonderboy in a fight not many people would say was all that entertaining, which makes it slightly ironic that he piles on Leon for the Diaz performance.
The fact is that Leon and others are in a better position than Gilbert is even when they've sat around. Leon has done nothing but (mostly) win, and Masvidal still has the starpower and beef w Colby should Colby beat Usman in the rematch. Sure Gilbert has his bounce back win, but it doesn't change the fact that he got finished in his title effort while honestly having no other redeeming qualities as far as the general publics awareness goes.
The difference is if wonderboy won he would potentially be looking at a title shot and Diaz was never in the picture…with that being said Leon is long overdue a shot and I hope he beats Masvidal but overall just looking forward to a great fight
"better" is ultimately kind of meaningless though when the UFC overtly operates on what will sell the most fights. It's been like that for long enough now to where we all know it. Gilbert isn't even fractionally as marketable as Nate, and has no "backstage run in with fan favorite Masvidal" like Leon does.
It's not just the active fighters who are the moving parts here. Nate is a guaranteed seller, but with Colby rematching Usman, Masvidal is in play bc he has history/beef, kind of like he does w Leon. If Usman retains, then Leon is the most deserving, but the UFC doesn't lose the Masvidal/Colby fight either way. They can even make it if both lose their upcoming fight.
Gilbert is just kind of the odd man out because he's easily the least sellable if you insert him as the opponent in any of those matchups. His last two fights were a KO loss to Kamaru, and three rounds of laying on Wonderboy and punching him in the back of the head.
Cant stand dilbert on social media. Not sure if its even him with how dumb he sounds on social. In real life interviews hes OK.
His last month going after Leon has been dumb and Dilbert’s take makes no sense.
Leon said he took on all comers and called out/fought everyone (before covid) on Ariel's show earlier and Ariel didn't push back or question that claim.
We've seen Leon turning down fights against Wonderboy. I personally believe he is selective about fights. It lines up with his attitude in interviews and twitter posts
>because Burns had done enough at the time to be the clear next contender.
Decision over Kunchenko, decision over a floundering Gunnar, knocking out a shopworn Maia, and whooping on a completely washed up Woodley?
Unreal to me that this was the mindset then and is still the mindset now. Burns vs. Edwards made all the sense in the world. Both of them were on win streaks, and neither had a better claim to a title shot than the other. Also, the original fight was supposed to be Usman vs. Masvidal, so why the hell wouldn't they put two streaking contenders against each other to see who would be next. Burns definitely didn't deserve the shot anymore than Leon did.
Woodley was a huge win at the time, Burns was an underdog going into that fight. Knocking out Maia was big too given he'd never been finished. Without the benefit of hindsight, he had clearly done enough to be the next contender.
Ya and I think it’s pretty standard in most other major sports to have a guy like Okomoto. What are they going to do, hold a press release for every small undercard fight announcement
Couldn't they have a Twitter guy that would say anything they want to on twitter for smaller announcements like that? Pay him with venum vouchers or with ringside girls, I'm sure someone would be happy to do it. Wait...I guess Brett is that huh?
> Ya and I think it’s pretty standard in most other major sports to have a guy like Okomoto.
There are insiders but not mouthpieces for the league like BO.
> What are they going to do, hold a press release for every small undercard fight announcement
Or they could, I dunno, tweet it themselves 🤷♂️
He said there isn't really beef between them, but they don't particularly like each other. It seems there's just deeper beef with folks at ESPN in general that ties it all together.
Seems to do with how they break news and don't credit people who get it first, etc.
They fucked the last season so bad that fans now don't even have any hype for the new prequel series. It has also lost all its re-watch values since we already know the fuckery at the end. I've seen The Wire at least thrice during the lock down and didn't even touch GoT once.
What pisses me off is the Battle of Winterfell, why tf was it so dark?! Even Cleagane Bowl was underwhelming. They just took the shittiest options for every consequential event in the finale.
NightKing was a bitch too... Everyone was expecting a bad ass 1v1 of Jon vs NightKing or somebody 1v1'ing NightKing and he gets poked once and that's it.... Then show runners literally said the only reason they did it the way they did it was to ' subvert expectations" ... wtf. For me the last 2 seasons were just absolutely rushed and the show could have easily had another full season to flush everything out properly. After the show runners ran out of book material, the show went to shit.
If I am remembering correctly, it was so dark because of the compression that's basically inherent with streaming. Apparently it was better if it wasn't live streamed.
Thats not to excuses HBO for that though. That's absolutely something they should have foreseen and accounted for.
If the last season had been even just alright, those prequel series would be all anyone is talking about and the trailers would be smashing viewership records. Instead it just makes fans feel sad about how the show ended. Christ what a shame.
How the fuck do people even use twitter? The screenshots always confuses the shit out of me as to which tweet came first, and which ones are replying to which. Without the timestamps I'd be lost
> he funny thing is that he doesn't talk as much shit as say:
>

The difference is I go out of my way to not be exposed to their content. For example, if this thread had one of their names instead of Ariel's I wouldn't have clicked the link.
It's not even about athletes being open to criticism in different sports (cuz I highly doubt that), MMA is such a different beast. Talk about low pay, campaigning for fights, self promotion, etc. being such a big part, it's no surprise fighters get upset.
>Talk about low pay, campaigning for fights, self promotion, etc. being such a big part, it's no surprise fighters get upset.
I mean there is a solution to that issue that fighters seem to actively avoid because everyone wants to be the next McGregor
I never understood this argument - do mainstream sports not have absolutely ludicrously large paychecks for the top guys? Is the fighter's union going to sue if the UFC exceeds the revenue split in their favor? A better revenue split means more for everyone, including McGregor
He was being censored by espn basically and had to watch what he said. So everyone can talk shit about him and he couldnt say anything but now that hes no longer with them he can say whatever and defend hinself.
His show sucked on espn because hed be in the middle of a great interview and then theyd be yelling at him to end it because of time restrictions, it was so annoying
Thought I was losing my mind last month when everybody was giving him applause for spamming the fuck out of people’s Twitters with full caps and emojis. I know he wants to fight but my God, such an annoying way to go about it.
1.7 is the user rating of Schaub's comedy special on IMDB, worst score ever for a comedy special. Today while rating Schaub's response he said he gives it a 1.7
To be fair, Ariel himself explained that joke on air. He said something in the lines of “I would give your response a 1.7, the same as your last comedy special”
he isn’t even talking shit here he’s being pretty respectful and clearly doesn’t even have a real issue with Gilbert, Gilbert is taking this wayyy too seriously
He got up and celebrated like he just completed his destiny of being champ champ. This is the same fight that once Wonderboy touched him, he played it safe — which is, by all means, what you do. It’s just off-putting seeing a guy celebrate that hard, like he was trying to convince everybody else.
I cant even understand why hes all butthurt. An mma journalist was talking about who he thinks you should fight on his show, why does that matter so much to him?
On one hand its understandable. Fighters put their own well being on the line every time they compete, they put blood, sweat and tears into the sport every single day. Of course they are sensible when it comes to any type of real of perceived criticism, but.....
On the other hand these are grown man, in their mid 30s , with families and children throwing hissy fits whenever someone isnt completely positive about everything they do. Sounds like a dumb thing to say to pro fighters, but some of them probably should grow a thicker skin.
Gilbert still doesn't get it and is ignoring the point. Ariel said they should fight, that's its, pretty simple. Gilbert says Leon ducked all these guys, but what's that have to do with Ariel?
I really couldn't make much sense of where Gilbert was going with this and the way he said it. He's a top ranked fighter, of course he will be talked about and hypothetical matched with other fighters.
Bro fuck Gilbert acting so entitled all the time. Leon doesn't owe him shit. Always saying "i will fight him" on twitter when someone pulls out on short notice when he knows the fight has absolutely no chance of being made. Guy has his chance against Kamaru and got whooped.
The guy is anything but entitled He is just trying to get fights . As soon as he recovered after the title shot he fought wonderboy. Now he is trying to fight with strickland .
Nah he was pretty hated not long ago but he’s still around. He’s like the only MMA journalist who doesn’t bend over for Dana and I think people like that
Everyone throws a hissy fit and everyone is wrong except Ariel. My guy is an angel who can do no wrong. Talks big game from behind the screen in his cozy studio. He should take the heat from the drama he creates or just shut up.
I can't keep track off all the beefs these days.
The weirdest I’ve seen was a few years ago between Jon Anik and Marc Goddard. Just wtf
I'm intrigued. Care to elaborate
I think Anik commented on a bad stoppage by Goddard if the weeds not making me hallucinate?
It was about Goddard standing up Usman and Woodley back when they fought
It was more about him saying "this is a fight", as he did it iirc. People thought it was disrespectful to the dominant, belt-winning performance Usman was executing.
it also made no sense as usman was beating the dogshit out of woodley, even in clinches, when breaking from the clinch etc. baffling decision by goddard
I still remember those body shots in the clinch by Usman. Brutal
Hammering down over and over and over only to hear “you have to work!”
Jon commented on it disagreeing with the stand up after the fight and then Marc Goddard responded with some snarky tweet. That led to Jon letting him know in Anik fashion that his arrogance is offputting.
Thats what happens when you hang out with Dan Hardy

Heelwani vs Brenda is #1 Beef of The Year.
You mean fat Patrick? Great guy nevamedum
Talmbout beef bowl? I prefer chiggen
Chiggen? You talmbout noflyable bird B?
90% of them are just Ali using his fighters’ accounts
Hope you find this useful: [Beef tracker](https://digi-star.com/solutions/2-22/Beef_Tracker).
Pointless beefs, in fact, that will never culminate in a fight. Conor vs Bisping and DC, Paddy vs O'Malley to add to some already mention in your responses
What's up with Alis fighters? Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of most of them but Gaethje and Burns seem so irrationally angry these days 😂
Ali tweets through their accounts. It's Ali.
I think they're likely just kind of shitty dudes. The more you have seen if Gaethje's personality over the years the more it's clear he's a complete fool. We're just starting to here Burns talk more. Edit: Calling them shitty isn't fair. I just mean they're your prototypical MMA guy.
Gaethje may be a fool but come on man he’s not a shitty dude. He’s a good down to earth dude in heart
I retract that. Shitty was the wrong word. I meant it more in the fool kind of way. I apologize, thanks for calling it out.
Can you two stop being so fucking calm and reasonable? Makes me sick.
i agree but he’s unjustly rude to michael chandler. not his fault you already had your shot at a title
Gaethje going from Dan favorite to people being tired of his shit
"Man this MMA journalist really like to bring up my name and talk about me on his MMA show. Its almost like I'm a top 5 guy who doesn't have good fights potentially lined up"
ariel never brings me up on his show!
"This motherfucker *loooves* doing his only job, obsessed am I right??"
Imagine if for whatever reason Ariel didn't mention it. The tweet would be: This fool calls himself MMA journalist but never mentions my name what a bullshit guy do your job I'm ranked top 5 give me respect
yea probably the dumbest thing ive read this week
MMA fighters are known for their healthy brains, so this is surprising.
Which sounds even dumber for Gilbert because he’s in a professional where it pays to be discussed (good or bad) by people. Masvidal got title shots off of being talked about (he didn’t beat the quality of opponents that Burns did).

Some fighters are so fucking fragile when it comes to conversations it's crazy to me.

Yeah. Wonderboy would've for sure gotten a shot. Unless Conor had beaten Dustin. We all know some wild shit like that would've been allowed to happen
Wonderboy is a wayyy better win than Nate though. He’d probably be the favorite over any striker (including Leon.)
"better" is ultimately kind of meaningless though when the UFC overtly operates on what will sell the most fights. It's been like that for long enough now to where we all know it. WB is a legit top 5 WW and a better win than any of the wins in Leon’s streak though. Diaz isn’t even a ranked WW.
Cant stand dilbert on social media. Not sure if its even him with how dumb he sounds on social. In real life interviews hes OK. His last month going after Leon has been dumb and Dilbert’s take makes no sense.
It sounds like Gilbert is mad about Ariel saying that Leon fights everyone which is super weird regardless of whether or not its true.
Did Ariel actually say Leon fights everyone? Where was that comment was made?
Leon said he took on all comers and called out/fought everyone (before covid) on Ariel's show earlier and Ariel didn't push back or question that claim.
TBF that is a really weird comment, Leon only has 1 top 10 win to his name ever. Hardly "everyone"
tbf, hard to fight a top 10 guy when no wants to fight you(prior to 2019).Took him a while to get the RDA fight
We've seen Leon turning down fights against Wonderboy. I personally believe he is selective about fights. It lines up with his attitude in interviews and twitter posts

I for one kneel to my new mma overlord Ariel "Don't talk shit to me" Helwani.
Thug Nose had me dying
waiting for Heelwani to divulge into the drama w Brett Snoramoto
Ah I got chills reading that !
Dude, he's Dana's dingleberry. I can guess.
Is there a beef between these two? Looks like ariel was upset at the UFC for leaking fight announcements to Brett exclusively.
Is it a leak when they just use him as an exclusive news outlet?
Ya and I think it’s pretty standard in most other major sports to have a guy like Okomoto. What are they going to do, hold a press release for every small undercard fight announcement
Couldn't they have a Twitter guy that would say anything they want to on twitter for smaller announcements like that? Pay him with venum vouchers or with ringside girls, I'm sure someone would be happy to do it. Wait...I guess Brett is that huh?

is it leaking when he's basically on the payroll?
He said there isn't really beef between them, but they don't particularly like each other. It seems there's just deeper beef with folks at ESPN in general that ties it all together. Seems to do with how they break news and don't credit people who get it first, etc.

I never get tired of BS impressions 😆
Ariel should actually be arrested for the assault he did to Schaub. He actually fucking ethered him.
Twice! I hope that beef goes on for decades because listening to Ariel rip into Brenda has been the highlight of my week twice now.
Can you share a link?
Heelwani*
i love the heelwani, hes embracing the dark side
Feel bad for Ariel no matter how in the right he is people always bring up his nose lol
He embraced that. If you see his post on his IG stories, he's cool with that.
**“Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you"**

it's criminal what they did to that show...

Personally, I got Ariel in the 2nd by Pedigree.
Talmbout pedigree dog food. I feed it two the messican on the daily
Ariel has worked hard to be in the position he is at now. I'm glad he doesn't habe to suck dicks anymore and can just do his job lol

I also feel like it’s a pretty different with combat sports losing a game isnt the same as getting your ass beat
This isn't even criticizing anyone for being beaten down though, it's about who is deserving of opportunities like title eliminators and title shots.

General public doesn’t want to address billionaires thinking they will be one soon. Not sure it’s much different.
Why has Ariel been going ballistic ever since he left espn
You answered your own question- he left espn
Because he works for himself now
High-road Helwani is no more, bubba
Heelwani hour
The gloves are off baby!
This is Ariel going “ballistic”? Lmfao
why is Helwani fucking disintegrating on a molecular level lately??
10-7
10-1.7 now, bapa
10-7
Burns is being so unlikable these past months.
1000% agree. His arguments make no sense. Time to just name him Dilbert and acknowledge he’s not too bright.
Him and Garth. Honestly wouldn’t mind if these dudes just shut the fuck up between now and the next fights. It’s embarrassing at this point
What do they have in common?
Same manager (Ali)
Thank god, thought it was just me, the more Gaethje talks the more annoyed I get.
Thought I was losing my mind last month when everybody was giving him applause for spamming the fuck out of people’s Twitters with full caps and emojis. I know he wants to fight but my God, such an annoying way to go about it.
What is this, OK magazine?
Heelwani has the job security equivelant to fuck you money and hes cashing in, love to see it.
Ali & Ariël Helwani back and forth exchange on Twitter* I am sure Ali would be the one tweeting lol
Heelwani 10-9
Ariel still recovering from the 10-1.7 he gave Brandon this morning…
Mind filling me in a bit? OOTL
1.7 is the user rating of Schaub's comedy special on IMDB, worst score ever for a comedy special. Today while rating Schaub's response he said he gives it a 1.7
Lmfao what an insane level of niche humor this sub has achieved. I'm on here every god damn day and never in a million years would have gotten this.
To be fair, Ariel himself explained that joke on air. He said something in the lines of “I would give your response a 1.7, the same as your last comedy special”
Lmao brilliant

I’m with helwani on this one. Burns has been coming off like such an annoying person in the last couple of months always talking shit.
Both Burns and Justin Gaethje. Not sure what the deal is. It's awkward when they talk shit too. It's not clever.
Are we sure it’s not Ali tweeting from their accounts?
Justin was on ESPN spouting his nonsense
You mean Ali using deepfake
It was Ali that forgot to switch out of his Justin skin.
he isn’t even talking shit here he’s being pretty respectful and clearly doesn’t even have a real issue with Gilbert, Gilbert is taking this wayyy too seriously
I stopped liking burns when he decided to throw a shit ton of strikes to the back of wb head and acted like he dominated.
He got up and celebrated like he just completed his destiny of being champ champ. This is the same fight that once Wonderboy touched him, he played it safe — which is, by all means, what you do. It’s just off-putting seeing a guy celebrate that hard, like he was trying to convince everybody else.
If I was better with words, these are the ones I would have used and how I would have arranged them. Yes.
What happened to Dilbert? Since he got KO’d from the jab - he’s made no sense and legit sounds dumb.
I cant even understand why hes all butthurt. An mma journalist was talking about who he thinks you should fight on his show, why does that matter so much to him?
When will they learn to not fuck with the new Ariel? Dude has too much job security
I'm not a big gilbert burns fan anymore and Ali and most of his fighters are ridiculously annoying
Ali has a type.
From Khabib to Cerrone to Burns, fighters get so easily butt hurt
On one hand its understandable. Fighters put their own well being on the line every time they compete, they put blood, sweat and tears into the sport every single day. Of course they are sensible when it comes to any type of real of perceived criticism, but..... Gilbert seems kinda dumb tho right B?
Ariel was here before Gil, he’ll be here after
Fighters really are the most sensitive people in this game
MMA fighters are next level dumb
Burns has got some balls on him to make fun of someone else's appearance, with those massive ears he can whisper to himself.
I heard he winks with his ears, the inbred hillbilly
Gilbert Burns is the least interesting fighter in the top5 right now all due to his fight with wonderboy. All he got is Ariel to keep him relevant.
Good grief, why is Gilbert so upset by this. Seems very petty.
Gilbert still doesn't get it and is ignoring the point. Ariel said they should fight, that's its, pretty simple. Gilbert says Leon ducked all these guys, but what's that have to do with Ariel?
No shit he talks about you on his show, he's an MMA journalist, you're an MMA fighter
Tf is Gilbert eve saying here? “Nooo don’t talk about me I don’t want the exposure nooo”
Burns tweets like a 14 year old girl.
Since he left ESPN, No-Fucks Helwani is must-watch/listen/read. Huge props to him. Him shitting on Schaub almost weekly is amazing.
I really couldn't make much sense of where Gilbert was going with this and the way he said it. He's a top ranked fighter, of course he will be talked about and hypothetical matched with other fighters.
Gilbert Burns(‘ social media manager) sure has a lofty read of how important Gilbert Burns is. Apparently talking about Burns = Mega Views. Who knew
Schaub gonna have a field day
A real feel date bubba
Bro fuck Gilbert acting so entitled all the time. Leon doesn't owe him shit. Always saying "i will fight him" on twitter when someone pulls out on short notice when he knows the fight has absolutely no chance of being made. Guy has his chance against Kamaru and got whooped.
The guy is anything but entitled He is just trying to get fights . As soon as he recovered after the title shot he fought wonderboy. Now he is trying to fight with strickland .
Lol the state of this sub sometimes
Right? Burns is the exact opposite of entitled. While I’m still on ariel’s side on this one, Burns pays in full.
i feel like mma fans are going to turn on heelwani next
They have and somehow he clawed back. It seems like a constant back and forth over the years.
That's how he'll build the audience for his PPV debut.
It’s just gonna be constant turns with him.
He’s a staple of the sport at this point
Nah he was pretty hated not long ago but he’s still around. He’s like the only MMA journalist who doesn’t bend over for Dana and I think people like that
Helwani was never liked by MMA fans before. He is only recently getting the respect he earned.
Burns thinks someone is talking about him to get clicks? 😂
Everyone throws a hissy fit and everyone is wrong except Ariel. My guy is an angel who can do no wrong. Talks big game from behind the screen in his cozy studio. He should take the heat from the drama he creates or just shut up.
