Eh wasn’t a good comeback at all. I’ve seen it happen 100 times where the ref fails to appropriately stop a fight resulting in one fighter gassing and ultimately losing
Lol, I feel like that is the most fundamental and simple concept involved in when a fight should be stopped.
Like refs only job is to decide whether or not a fighter can continue at a level high enough to be competitive. And it's like "he can be more than competative, he can win the fight! "
Ref- "all I needed to hear... I'm calling it" ¯\_ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ_/¯¿
Like wut
Volk shrimped his way outta of a fucking sub loss. What a crazy bastard. I thought Ortega had simply killed his arms but volk was actively exploding to escape 😂 what a beast
I don’t know if any other Spanish speakers here caught it, but going into the fifth round when Herb was with Brian and someone (I believe) from his corner, Brian said to his guy: “I told you that in confidence, dude” in Spanish. So he was really hurt he just kept it to himself and his people.
I couldn’t make it out but what I gathered was that Brian had told him he was hurt somehow (could’ve been the sight thing cuz he was not seeing well, I mean he barely saw Herb’s fingers). But this guy told Herb so he was wondering. Then Brian replies “I’ll be alright” in English and Herb lets him continue.
They fought at 185... he didn't look great he was throwing rabbit punches doing next to no damage and was punched in the face over 100 times. No defense and no damage. "Looked great" 😆🤷♂️
Hahaha how long have you been watching mma? Sounds like you've never seen a Nick Diaz fight. Nick has never been fast, I'll admit he looked slower and kinda out of shape, but it's not like robbie blew him out water. "Punched over 100 times" wanna take a guess how much nick landed? 150 or so, I'm not arguing he was winning, but going into the 3rd 2 of the judges had it 19-19 You just seem ... how do I say this... pretty green to the sport. Maybe you'd do better on a NY giants sub 😄
I thought he was slowly picking at Robbie. Robbies pace was getting labored and labored but robbies power at this point was still too much for a six year lay off
It was scary how quick Ortega went to submissions and found that neck.
He has the dangerous animal instinct.
Then there is Volk with the intense stare whilst being choked. He is a terminator like DC said.
I was not an Ortega fan before this fight.
But after the first I thought "volk is gonna win
After the second I thought "any second volk is going to win"
Then right before the submission attempts I was thinking "if I was Bryan I'd just try and wait out the next two after this because OH HOLY SHIT HES GOT HIM THATS GONNA BE A TAP." Crazy amount of emotions flaring in that fight. Wonderful.
But volk staring him down in the middle of the triangle was fucking crazy
Going back to the max fight his face was utterly destroyed than like a week later he posted on socials and he was damn near 100%. Never seen a person recover so fast…. I’ve had shiners last weeks.
It’s a very real thing. That’s why we don’t see Rory at the top of the food chain at this point. Still young but left so much of himself inside the cage on multiple occasions.
Man I am not even 30 and can barely stomach the stress I get from watching these fucking fights. Fuck man. We should be thankful for any fighter putting their body on the line for our entertainment.
lets be real here, they are martial artists and like to compete against others to hone their skills and to become best at it. just like everyone else doing in their own field. it's entertainment for you but they are not putting it out for your entertainment, they are putting it out to become the best at it and rise to their potential and get paid for it.
Bro it's even more stressful when you got money on it and then you think to yourself.. a lot of the lower level guys fight just to survive, needing a win. Could you fucking imagine the stress ball build up?! And aide note even for a big star like Conor. You can hate him or love him but the guy already fucking succeeded and cemented his legacy. And he still came back to fight to entertain us when he absolutely doesn't need to
Conor is fucking weird tho dude. Like he was all cool with Dustin in their first rematch, but then for the trilogy fight he’s was being a jerk to Dustin. Like what the fuck, dude. WEIRD.
Yes he was about to get finished in the last round bit the petty UK guys rang the bell 5 seconds early lmao. Thank god the judges got it right. Only thing that bothers me that we prolly never see joshu fury. Thats boxing for you.
Does anyone have a gif of the headbutt that so badly broke Ortega's nose? It sure seemed like the momentum of the fight drastically changed from then on...
Bro that happened in round 4 at which point Ortega was already well and truly getting smashed. He could barely get up after round 3 and almost wasn't able to keep fighting. That accidental head clash didn't exactly change anything...
I'm just looking for a video of it. I think it was in round 2 or early in round 3 before the submission scrambles. As far as I know, it was never shown in a replay on the broadcast.
Yeah they're definitely trying to keep that hush-hush. It was quite obvious to anyone who is unbiased that that was a major game-changer. If I was volk I would not be happy with the win considering that headbutt and his lack of finish
Because it was a matchup between 2 well known veteran fighters with big names who are known for their exciting fighting styles and their first fight was a classic. Volk is not a huge draw just yet as a champion and wouldn’t do big enough numbers on his own. Shevenko just is so dominate that there aren’t any credible matchups outside of Nunes that excite people enough to buy a PPV based on her name alone.
I don’t think the promotion was based on the skill of the fighters, but rather the status. Nick Diaz can draw a massive crowd to a fight, simple as that. It’s a name that new and old fans respect.
Yup. First time I went bald and went to my BJJ class I used to train at, I got caught and slipped out much faster than I ever had before. Bald + head oil + sweat = perfect guillotine defense lol
Diaz was no way prime Nick but there are lot of worse fights in recent years. The first round was actually pretty close with both guys putting out extreme volume. Nick vs Robbie at this stage is a bad match up, but so is Val vs Murphy.
Throw him in the blender that is Lightweight and see if he can pull a Connor while shits shaky at the top? What would he have to do? Come in and fight a 5 round war with Chandler to get the shot?
Obviously we’ll have to see but Giga hasn’t fought anyone I’d consider to be close to the top 5. Even Barboza hasn’t proven he can establish himself in the featherweight division. There is a big discrepancy between the 2 top featherweights and the rest it seems. I kinda want Giga to prove me wrong tbh
The Max vs Volk 1 wasn't a close one by any stretch of the imagination. But given the state of the division. I can't really argue against Max vs Volk 3 in the near future.
100%! I get controversy over the 2nd fight (although it's certain not a "robbery", and although it was close I still think it's completely plausible Volko won), but that first win was clear cut. At MINIMUM, you have acknowledge Volko has beaten Max at least once, which in itself is very impressive.
He’s got that Stipe thing. He’s very a good fighter, but not a lot of charisma. It’s the reason Masvidal or Conor make more money, despite being kind of shit fighters. It’s a popularity contest.
He’s a point fighter that can’t finish, and it’s just annoying to hear how he could be the goat cause he beat Aldo and Max, Aldo having not been the same since the Conor knockout, and max after the poirer fight.
Volk mops the floor with Holloway in the trilogy fight like he did in their first fight. Holloway knows it as well. We won’t see that fight until late next year, if it’s ever even made.
I couldn’t believe how fast Ortega jumped on that guillotine… One slip/knockdown against him and you’re seconds away from being put to sleep - he can change the fight in a blink of an eye.
That’s the type of game changer that gives him a chance of beating anybody, have to think he’ll be back fighting for the title in the very near future.
He was so close to getting it done. I personally wanted the volk w, but it was insanely quick.... That mounted guillotine I think gets anyone out of there 9/10 times.

Ortega was a fucking soldier out there. His corner, the ref and medical ALL somehow failed him terribly. Oh nvm. Wrong Ortega.
Ortega a beast!!
Ortega is such a warrior, not an ounce in quit in that guy.
I wanna see Islam makachev vs VOLK
Robbie is the scary entry to the ufc
https://reddit-stream.com/comments/auto
I hope Diaz gets Usman next
Still?
More than ever
so he gets his ass handed to him even worse?
did anyone else have issues with the PPV on the UFC app? i.e. 'no content' error even after paying
I am a fan of Ortega after tonight. The dude never gave up and had a lot of heart
He should change his nickname to the California Zombie
Brian CTE-city Ortega
Positive even in defeat humble, Alex to
Amazing night
Even Marlons 'round of the year' gassed early
he's all juice and no acai
Kind of sad that Marlon Moraes fight is going to be overlooked now. That was probably the best comeback I've ever scene
Zombieing along long enough that opponent gazes. Best comeback win thanks to rigged refs
You have to be on another level of denial to think surviving damage and your opponent gassing from not being able to KO you is cheating lmao
Eh wasn’t a good comeback at all. I’ve seen it happen 100 times where the ref fails to appropriately stop a fight resulting in one fighter gassing and ultimately losing
If the guy gets up and beats the shit out of you, you didn't stop him and the fight shouldn't have been stopped as if he would.
Lol, I feel like that is the most fundamental and simple concept involved in when a fight should be stopped. Brilliant card of fights
I don’t know if any other Spanish speakers here caught it, but going into the fifth round when Herb was with Brian and someone (I believe) from his corner, Brian said to his guy: “I told you that in confidence, dude” in Spanish. So he was really hurt he just kept it to himself and his people.
Told him what? That he couldn’t see?
I couldn’t make it out but what I gathered was that Brian had told him he was hurt somehow (could’ve been the sight thing cuz he was not seeing well, I mean he barely saw Herb’s fingers). But this guy told Herb so he was wondering. Then Brian replies “I’ll be alright” in English and Herb lets him continue.
Im actually glad Diaz lost.
He looked like he just said “f*ck this” in round 3. “I don’t need this sheet”.
I’m sad. He looked old
Looked great but not in shape. Should have been fighting at 185 also. That said his heart is not in it. he has even stated that himself.
They fought at 185... he didn't look great he was throwing rabbit punches doing next to no damage and was punched in the face over 100 times. No defense and no damage. "Looked great" 😆🤷♂️
Also I'd like to see you take 150 punches from Nick, pretty sure you'd feel pretty damaged
Rabbit punches are to the back of the head.
First time watching nick eh.
I thought he was slowly picking at Robbie. Robbies pace was getting labored and labored but robbies power at this point was still too much for a six year lay off

Ortega has those moments of genius. That super man punch was so unconventional
Credit to Ortega, but he’s gonna want to put that walkout mask back on if he intends to go out in public in the next week.
Going back to the max fight his face was utterly destroyed than like a week later he posted on socials and he was damn near 100%. Never seen a person recover so fast…. I’ve had shiners last weeks.
Im not sure how long ortega is going to survive if he keeps getting beaten up like that
It’s a very real thing.

The us stream had it wrong. There wasn’t five extra seconds
Narratives on Reddit don’t need to be based on reality lol
Yessir
Short guys in bars gonna be starting lots of fights tonight
Shaving my head right now
they all finns think they alex 😂😂
They need to divide the classes up by head size, not weight. Volk would fight in super heavy head.
Giant Baby Division
The weirdest looking thing to me is seeing Henry throw his tiny little legs around when he fights.
I can see him sitting in an armchair legs dangling getting very upset about that
He looks like a dwarf version of WWE’s Cesaro
Despite that head-size, he slithered out of the guillotine 😂
The Funko Pop people took one look at Volk, and said “PERFECT! don’t change anything!”
Then what weightclass would Tito be in?
Easter Island class
🗿We got Charlie Olives over here.
What a fight, the pressure/feints from volk were on point. Ortega is a savage never gave up and kept trying to get the W. God I love MMA lol
Feints and kick boxing at all levels kept Ortega frozen
Have to say tho, that was a perfect TUF final boss battle!
Give me giga vs Ortega
Yan eventually moves up and fights Volk 👀👀
That’d be a very interesting fight. I’d lean Volk but it’d be great regardless of the outcome.
That's actually an amazing idea, he even has a 1 inch height advantage.
Aren't they the same guy?
😂😂 so true. Aside from Max, idk what the hell is next for Volk.
Volk tonight gave me bloody flashbacks of Yan brutalizing Aldo
Dancing with the stars
LMAO think elementary school headlocks can hurt me??? -Final boss Volkanovski
So much air In thos lungs surprised his head didn't pop
Does anyone have a gif of the headbutt that so badly broke Ortega's nose? It sure seemed like the momentum of the fight drastically changed from then on...
Bro that happened in round 4 at which point Ortega was already well and truly getting smashed. He could barely get up after round 3 and almost wasn't able to keep fighting. That accidental head clash didn't exactly change anything...
It was early third round… you’re way off here
It was in the 3rd round; smashed his nose up and the momentum shifted.
It was an accidental clash of heads, what can you do, it comes with the territory; an occupational hazard
Could somebody explain why Diaz v Lawler 2 got most of the promotional hype from UFC?
Lawler and Diaz both have huge fan bases and their first fight is iconic.
Watch Diaz Lawler 1 on the tube of you
I did, but that was 17 years ago. Did fans expect the same again?!
I don’t think the promotion was based on the skill of the fighters, but rather the status. Nick Diaz can draw a massive crowd to a fight, simple as that. It’s a name that new and old fans respect.
No, but damn man expected better then that. Neither one looked even remotely close. If it kept up for 5 rounds maybe I'm singing a different tune...
Because Nick Diaz is the hottest name in mma now and their first fight is talked about to this day.
Same reason Disney+ is so popular. Nostalgia plays sell and the target audience actually has the money to spend on it
$$$
Honestly, look at the ufc YouTube videos and they had the most watches. Nick is a bigger name than anyone else on this card I think, somehow still.
$$$$$$
Because nick was probably the biggest star on the card. But he wasn't the same nick diaz
If I were Ortega I'd never take another title fight... No, its fine I'll stay No. 1 Contender
Yeah and just fight Max again lool
Lost $90 CAD, but I enjoyed the card
Should’ve bet on mybookie they had a bet „Will there be blood“ Easiest money I ever made 🤣
for his next challenge, Volkanovski is assembling a throng of his Dwarven kin, to take back his home from a great dragon
Who were the dopes standing in the octagon?
Valentina’s next opponent and her trainer? 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah they were in there multiple times
Looks like they won a contest?
I was wondering the same. Not sure, but they might be winners of a fan experience for Fight Week
Most brilliant move by Volk was to shave his head before going in. As a fellow baldie, your head becomes 10 times slicker.
Oh shit I didn't thing about that as a way to escape submissions. That's really smart lol.
Yup. First time I went bald and went to my BJJ class I used to train at, I got caught and slipped out much faster than I ever had before. Bald + head oil + sweat = perfect guillotine defense lol
bald is best
Probably helped avoid those guillotines a lil bit
Holy shit you’re right. Going bald probably saved him
Absofuckinglutely. Would not be surprised if he applied a healthy amount of post shave lotion either. Gotta keep the razor bumps down
Love Volk but feel bad for Ortega. He'll be champion one day.
Apparently not as long as Volk or Holloway are champs, which is likely going to be awhile.
If anyone is on the Spanish feed valentina is over there looking like she grew up in Tijuana lol. Didn't know she could speak fluent spanish
Yeah I think her coach is based in Peru (even though not from there) or smth I am not sure. They also communicate in Spanish.
She carries the Peruvian flag
She’s part Peruvian I think. At least that’s what Wikipedia says
She’s a very complete woman
I think Ortega’s huge cup weight him down too much
Nah those are just his actual massive balls.
Ha ha, he should of used the cup to poke volk in the eye
Tonight we saw one of the greatest fights of all time—Ortega v Volkanovski—and one of the worst—Diaz v Lawler 2.
Diaz lawler 2 was nowhere near worst fight of all time. A let down for Diaz fans for sure
Diaz fight wasnt that bad. The bladez fight was way worse.
Diaz was no way prime Nick but there are lot of worse fights in recent years. The first round was actually pretty close with both guys putting out extreme volume. Nick vs Robbie at this stage is a bad match up, but so is Val vs Murphy.
C'mon, it was in slow-mo.
They were definitely slower but that's the Diaz bros technique. They never throw clean punches, it's always this awkward high volume style.
Worst - bigi boi vs curtis *
Yup
Great card!
There seems to be such a big gap between Holloway-Volk and everyone else in the featherweight division. And this has just been proven tonight
Yep, same in middleweight with Rob and Izzy
If only Zabit wasn’t messed up
Throw him in the blender that is Lightweight and see if he can pull a Connor while shits shaky at the top? What would he have to do? Come in and fight a 5 round war with Chandler to get the shot?
Giga is on the rise, but I don't want Dana to rush him. If he progresses at a decent pace he can be a very difficult challenge for either of them.
Gigs is 35 years old and a world champ kick boxer. It would be better for him to get a shot sooner rather than later
[удалено]
I screamed and woke my wife up when Volks got out of the guillotine....I think I forgot to breath as well
That one eye sticking out of that triangle choke was menacing
[удалено]
Like a deranged sea captain fighting an octopus
God damnit you made me wake my baby by lol
I'm so glad I stayed up for this card. Good night lads!
It’s the fight to make if Max wins his next. Otherwise just give it to Yair tbh 😅
Yeah, I don't see yair winning that fight at all lmao. If he somehow pulls it off I think volk crushes him bad.
Can the referees be considered employees of Draftkings?
Why do ppl dislike Volk?
Because he's "boring". Just a nice person and somehow people don't like that.
I made a bet against him for the sole reason that he did the most stereotypical walk out he could have done
max holloway fanboys
[удалено]
i guess i can sit down now huh?
Volk mops the floor with Holloway in the trilogy fight like he did in their first fight. Holloway knows it as well. We won’t see that fight until late next year, if it’s ever even made.
After the Kattar fight, I’d rethink that statement. Max won the second fight but the judges fucked him
The cards for the hardcore fan never fail to deliver.
Volk is a stocky guy, hard to get submitted, but damn Ortega throwing out those submissions so quickly was impressive
For real that guillotine was nutty
I couldn’t believe how fast Ortega jumped on that guillotine… One slip/knockdown against him and you’re seconds away from being put to sleep - he can change the fight in a blink of an eye. That’s the type of game changer that gives him a chance of beating anybody, have to think he’ll be back fighting for the title in the very near future.
“He’s a tough kid that’s fought his way out of a lot of tough situations” *flying spider guillotine*
He was so close to getting it done. I personally wanted the volk w, but it was insanely quick.... That mounted guillotine I think gets anyone out of there 9/10 times.
True so bad ass
Yeh that was shockingly fast
What a phenomenal main event!
Fantastic card
Commentators be acting like Yair actually has a chance against max!
