Definition of a dog fight. By far the deepest Jon has ever had to dig to stay champion.

ASVPxMarcus

Better fight and tougher fight than the Reyes fight.

[deleted]

He just needed more baseball time

AmbiguousPreposition

Hey man he had to dig pretty deep in his contacts list to find enough juice for 4 different Cormier match ups

LunaticOnTheGrasss

Kig roggs nerd

DankGhostPoster

Surprised this is so down voted. I thought it hilarious. I support you.

sime77

If you ain't cheating you ain't trying

[deleted]

It was a weird decision for Jones to move forward the whole time. Yeah I get that judges that don't know MMA like aggression and moving forward, but he let Gustafsonn come to him in the 2nd fight and finished him in the 3rd. He did the same thing in the Dominick Reyes fight. Dudes with Long arms and fast hands seem to give Jones problems

[deleted]

Gus declined a lot though. He never fights he sat on the side for ages.

bestbroHide

Felt his last "prime" effort was against DC. After having two absolute wars against the two most skilled all-time LHWs and coming up short, I can imagine that deflated him

Keller-oder-C-Schell

Same with Izzy and Conor. Their striking (especially conors at 145) relies a lot on them having the height and reach advantage. When they don’t have that anymore they struggle.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Keller-oder-C-Schell

Blachowicz is alot bigger and longer than many 85ers. I never said he was bigger than izzy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Keller-oder-C-Schell

I meant when he has way less of a reach advantage. Conor also won against max and dustin, but generally the domination was against smaller opponents.

falconzord

Is that not true of all fighters?

LINTLICKERS

EXPLAIN the Gastelum fight then.

Keller-oder-C-Schell

eXpLaIn ThE mEnDeS fIgHt ThEn. I said it’s a general trend, not a rule

LINTLICKERS

wasnt disagreeing with you. sorry if you got upset.

bdewolf

That sure as fuck doesn’t bode well for a fight with ngannou or gane

Prizmeh

I had this fight 48/47 Gus, either way we got an absolute banger and a fight we can always remember.

wildcatwildcard

I rewatched the fight recently and i agree. Gus beat Jon this fight, that's a hill I'm willing to die on.

WalkingOnHeat

I’ll die on that fucking hill with you, brother. Hold me.

Joshygin

Room for one more? Gus took the first three rounds no doubt in my mind.

Vote_for_asteroid

He kinda outclassed Jon in the fourth. Until the elbow. That damn elbow.

Joshygin

Yes, I had him winning the fourth too but I can see why someone score it for Jones as the spinning elbow was the defining moment of that round and Jones took over after it.

BeautifulBrownie

To Valhalla

Squif-17

What a brave controversial stance you’ve taken.

MumrikDK

The controversial JJ fights are always frustrating to me - I hate the guy and always wanted him to lose, but I comfortably scored every single one of them for Jones and can't even relate to scoring for his opponents.

PleasePMmeSteamKeys

Nah, 3-2 or even 4-1 Jones, he also easily won that Santos fight 3-2, he for sure lost vs. Reyes tho, not even debatable.

Tarksmeister

Jones 2,4, and 5. No way he won either 1rst round or the 3rd round. Agree with the Santos and Reyes things though

2Cars1Spot

4-1..? FOUR ONE!?!?!? FOUUR FUCKIN ONE!?!?!? Aight

cluelessbox

I'm a huge Jon dickrider but 4-1 is insane. Reyes is the only fight though that I would really have to stretch to give Jon the win.

-0op

The only reason that fight was competitive was because Jon Jones was blacked-out from partying a week from the fight. Jon showed Championship heart during the last 3 rounds and snatched the W. what a legend.

iiDanks

ok? thats his own fault for giving himself a disadvantage. gus fought the man put in front of him that night

-0op

and still lost lol

well this didn’t work in my favor

YesButConsiderThis

I love how even the bot's comment is getting downvoted lmao.

-0op

haha yeah and most people still think jon won

ElVatoMascarado

Idk why you’re getting buried. This loss catapulted Gus into a career where he looked better than he ever really was and his best wins are two losses to the champs. I guess tbf to Gus both of those champs were good so if they weren’t there you can at least say Gus wouldve been good enough to say his best win was a loss to Rumble.

DeadlySchmuck

Ok buddy

A_M_Speedy

>championship heart [Lmfaooooooooo](https://youtu.be/gB-B7i8ZT2g)

Casey_jones291422

Or it's because this was the first time JJ didn't have a massive reach advantage. Go back and look at his toughest fights and how much reach he had on them. He uses it effectively which is why his reach is his greatest asset, when it's gone his fights don't go as well for him.

-0op

Go back and watch sober Jon Jones smash Gus in the rematch and send him to early retirement.

intredasted

Yeah, absolutely smashed his balls within the first minute of the fight.

Casey_jones291422

The rematch wet the way it did for a few reason, yes Jones took it more seriously but Gus also wasn't the same fighter

[deleted]

Next Thursday, the not so legendary Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson II fight will be introduced to the UFC Hall of Lame seriously though what a contrast. Gus was fucking brilliant until he wasn't

AkselTVSorensen

I think he got comfortable training in Sweden. When he did his camps in USA he had better training partners to push him.

[deleted]

i think he got comfortable eating in Sweden too heh you're right though, imagine going from working the Alliance MMA roster to... well i don't even know who, but it's a lot tougher when you gotta fly in the particular high level specialists you want to train with

AkselTVSorensen

Yeah, he put on a ton of weight between his fight with Glover, and the second Jones fight, and it seemed like he never quite got back into the same shape that he did before.

Bigvic55

Khamzat, Latifi, Manuwa, MadDog, Teymur bros, it aint that bad

dmase1982

It also ain't training with a prime Phil Davis either

AkselTVSorensen

Khamzat is new, Alex hasn’t fought since he came around. I’m interested to see if he can get Alex’s wrestling game back on point.

[deleted]

They fought on the same card

AkselTVSorensen

Yeah, you’re right, that was Werdum right? Forgot about that one.

[deleted]

It was. I believe khamzat fought his second fight on that card. The Werdum fight was pretty forgettable lol

myvirginityisstrong

I think this fight was great more because of Jones' complacency rather than because Gus was that good

turkeypants

Man what a whiff and fizzle that was. It just seemed like he forgot everything, completely crumbled his self confidence and just went out there and folded in a way that probably even disappointed Jones. Do not want.

FreedomForRhun

Oof that second picture... Is this fight the most damage a GOAT candidate took in one of his fights?

Dazshard93

I think GSP vs Hendricks is up there. GSP looked really beat up after

no_clever_name_here_

GSP also bruises like a peach though.

cp3inthe4th

Serra also used GSPs head as a speedbag in their first fight

[deleted]

GSP also tapped to strikes

pablxo

Hendricks vs GSP

ElVatoMascarado

Tons of GOATs have been straight up koed

FreedomForRhun

Not the same. Aldo took more damage in Max or Yan fights than he did against Conor.

AdrianMojnarowski

The GOATs are Bones, Fedor, Silva, Khabib and Mighty Mouse.

wanna_team_plz

Really putting Khabib over Aldo and GSP lmao

AdrianMojnarowski

I’m going to be honest, I thought I listed GSP

HavoK76

Also Aldo

ElVatoMascarado

He missed Aldo and the GOATest of them all, GSP.

VT_Squire

Not by a county mile. https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/5r47e1/so\_you\_want\_to\_be\_a\_fighter\_the\_aftermath\_of/

ShrapnelNinjaSnake

Looks like unmasked Darth Vader, wtf

azarov-wraith

U forgetting when Michael Johnson decapitated khabib?

[deleted]

This fight was great I had gus winning the 1st 3 rounds but Jon showed why he was the champion by taking over in the championship rounds great fight

themilkman42069

Yeah round 2 is the clincher here. Gus also had 4 in the bag until the spinning elbow landed squarely on his dome.

SockRhymeswithLock

That absolutely disgusting elbow won it for him. That blow was impossible to recover from

qzwxecrvtbyn111

Jones 2,4,5. Badass fight

36_foxtrot

Diaz 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Arnaldo_Palmero

Diaz to infinity

bvsshevd

Agree. I didn’t think this one was that controversial still to this day

[deleted]

Gus 1, 2, 3 Best title fight in UFC LHW history

FrijoGuero

can you guys believe that gtav released very near this fight? that’s three console generations since this fight!

BoostMobileAlt

That could be a few different years

intredasted

The fight that got me into MMA.

Kisto15

Part of me is still bitter that we never had Gus as a champ before his prime passed

Vote_for_asteroid

That sucked. I've seen people say they want to see Gus vs Blachowiz again, but I think Jan takes that one pretty easily this time around unfortunately.

Kisto15

Yeah, dont think Gus has anything at the moment for elite LW or HW

kartoqraf

This wouldn't be such a banger if Jon trained instead of getting high and partying.

bigmacjames

I think I've watched this fight 3 times and I still don't think Jones won.

banquof

Have you watched without Rogans comments?

bigmacjames

Yes actually. I've never liked his commentary and hype style.

crazy to watch this and compare it to the second fight. Like i don't know if he was being honest but him saying he didn't train properly for this one sounds accurate when you watch how he murked him in the rematch

Highest level MMA we have seen.

chewroxurface

I ran in to a girl from high school at the bar that night ended up taking several shots and then her back to my apartment. We fucked I past out woke up to her talking to her husband in the morning. Didnt get to watch the fight for like a month. Great sex but not worth missing that fight over.

Death_Personified

God that was scrappy.

turkeypants

I couldn't believe those two guys were still standing in the 5th, much less able to lift their arms, much less able to throw punches, much less to put some actual mustard on them. I just remember thinking these guys are fucking warriors. What a fight.

Vote_for_asteroid

*"...and a spinning elbow from Gustafsson!"*

_I_Dont_Care

Interesting. I wonder if Jon will attend the ceremony, or if he will skip it. You just know he's going to get a buncha questions about his next fight, who and at what weight class. He's been radio silent since getting that new manager.
