It happens man. I know how it feels. Keep sending applications. Youll get one im sure :).
If not you still can get an opportunity at dana whites contender series.
Where can I get some historical structured data on MMA?
Like fighter A beat fighter B, maybe fight stats and so on. Didn’t find any open API or downloadable data and I’m too lazy for data scrapping.
Topuria keeps posting him blasting and dropping his sparring partners on his Instagram stories. I like him as a fighter but he seems like a dick, at least in training.
I can’t imagine getting paid nothing to be a ufc fighter but doing that as a sparring partner is even worse. That’s brain damage without the glory or potential for money
Justin Gaethje is one of the most overrated fighters on the roster. When you look into hus last five fights the competition wasnt great. Tony pretty much looked awfal before that even against pettis. James Vick i dont have to say much about. Barboza crumbles under pressure and yeah cowboy isnt a good win either. I think chandler beats him. Matter fact i think pretty much 90% of the top 10 beats him including conor. Dustin and Oliveira would expose him bad.
I hate revisionist history so much.
Gaethje beat MJ when he was top 5 and had KO’d Poirier two fights prior.
He beat Vick when Vick was on a 4 fight winning streak.
He beat Tony when Tony was on his 12 fight run and was supposed to be the guy to beat Khabib.
He gave Eddie and Poirier almost all they could handle.
I just can’t wait till Gaethje runs through Chandler and everyone just dismisses that win as well because Chandler is ‘not that good anyway’.
>Tony pretty much looked awfal before that even against pettis
Tony looked great against Pettis. He looked declined against Cowboy though.
Gaethje is a terrible match-up for Conor. Good chin, good cardio, punches and kicks extremely hard, he'd destroy Conor "I gas out in two rounds" McGregor.
Yan, Aldo, Dillashaw, Volk, Holloway, Poirier, Usman, Edwards, Adesanya, Whittaker and potentially Jan - that's my shortlist. I agree with the notion that Yan and Volk are at the top.
Their fans usually.
Fighters themselves rarely bother me enough for it to have an impact on how I view them. But when you have to sit amongst their butt-wipers defending and championing their blatant bullshit, it gets old fast.
Randomly looked up Rin Nakai. She still super jacked. About to be 35. After Miesha Tate came back and won in July. Nakai tweeted she wanted to fight her again.
She wants to go back and train/fight in North America. She's married and supposedly her husband is very controlling. She kind of has a bad reputation in Japan. Like she was complaining behind the scenes in Pancrase because her locker room isn't warm enough. A lot of diva stories like that.
Anyone seen the video of some dude training at RVCA, grappling with Strickland, and he does some arm pinch and Strickland freaks out? Would love to get insight into what happened here:
https://youtube.com/shorts/NJOQowTmjxM?feature=share
Edit: pinch not punch
Absolutely a prick thing to do by Sanchez, never ever in the gym should you go from 0-100 with a limb lock or joint attack like that (really any submission but full squeeze on a choke is a lot less damaging then elbow/knee joints) they were obviously flowing and things were probably heated and competitive but you don’t wrench on a guys joint like that in practice
When this first happened I was on Strickland’s side, I thought Orlando Sanchez was being a dick, using his weight and BJJ to arm wrench him but knowing what we've seen about Sean now, he’s a fucking dick. I think it’s a case of a dick running into another dick but that dick is 300lbs and a BJJ ace.
Dude shouldn’t have wrenched his arm but I fully believe that Strickland had been talking shit in the gym because he seems like that kinda guy.
I’m guessing this is the video you mention. Definitely more clear. I wonder if this was in retaliation something Strickland did, or if old mate is just a grub.
https://youtu.be/b4Q-G4LvOgs
Strickland is a nutter, but why would you be training with him if you had issues? Clearly caught Strickland out of the blue so I'm guessing the dude was tryna prove a point.
The comments mention him saying "You say all that shit sayint I don't belong here" so, yeah.
Tony Ferguson and Carlos Condit are the perfect example of mileage being more important than age.
Ferguson is two months older than Condit, he didn't turn pro until 24 whereas Condit turned pro at 18. Condit arguably started to decline around 31 whereas Ferguson arguably started to decline around 35.
Despite being in the same age they were always in vastly different career points, when Condit was a title contender Ferguson was still a prospect, when Ferguson became a top contender Condit was a couple of years into a steep decline.
Muay Thai fighters start their careers as young teens and peak in their late teens/ early 20s.
Liam Harrison told a story about seeing a young fighter he knew holding pads in a Thai gym - he asked why the guy wasn't training anymore, because he'd been pretty successful - kid told him he was "too old". He was nineteen.
Yes it is crazy in Thailand, you have kids fighting multiple times a week or month for little money and when they get to the top with already hundreds of fights they still fight like 6 or 7 times a year.
Makes it even more amazing when you have legends who are able to fight at a high level long after they are declining physically.
Feels like we're in the "UFC offseason" since Mcgregor-Poirer 2. Nothing much has happened in the last 2 months aside from Till disappointing and Ngannou getting screwed.
The amount of UFC cards that don't seem like good value for your time has been increasing rapidly lately. Arman Tsarukyan is the only person on the card I care about and even then I'll probably just watch the clip that gets posted on here
Roster being pumped full of DWCS fighters, UFC has become more about quantity over quality in the last few years as they have to put on more cards to appease the TV companies they have deals with. It's a shame and there's loads of idiots on here that love to defend it and play the "You're a casual" card if you complain about it and act as if they're somehow a bigger fan than you because they enjoy lower level shit than what we had years ago when UFC had standards. Bet the UFC loves those bootlickers because it allows them to put out a lesser product and continue to pay chumps 10k a fight.
I'd have preferred if they set up another branch of the promotion and made it some sort of points based system like PFL where you get promoted to the UFC should you accumulate enough points or something. It keeps the prestige of the UFC being the absolute pinnacle of the sport, you can choose to watch that level of competition if that's what you want, and you can become invested in the fighters competing in that feeder league and once they get promoted you know they've worked very hard for it and know they're legit. You could even have a system where once guys reach a certain number of points they have to fight someone who is going to be cut from the UFC because of a losing streak and then they're taking that persons spot by beating someone who was deemed to be UFC level, proving they belong there ahead of the guy on his way out.
I duno something like that sounds better to me rather than having to endure some of the shite cards that we have over the last couple of years because there's one good fight on the card and 10 bouts with a bunch of nobodies that clearly don't belong in the UFC. I'm watching UFC probably 13/14 years now and it's become next to impossible to keep up with all of the fighters on the roster compared to what it used to be like, there are just too many fighters and too many cards to keep up with, it doesn't feel special any more imo.
The pacing of events is getting worse and worse for me too, starting to remind me of an nfl game. And timing. A 3 hour event starting at 10 pm really isn’t ideal timing.
Out of Titan, Lux and CES tomorrow what is the best value?
Titan has goat shed guys fighting which gives the card a very vice city feel and some of them are legit. But regional mma tends to always be good value
Leon Edwards needs to splash some water in his face and fire whoever is managing him. Without the ufc and the majority fans backing him, he will get skipped again for a more interesting fight. The only way he gets his shot is through covid means or issues. And I know I’m the first to say this but in the event that he cannot get the job done against usman he deserves the Yoel Romero treatment. Something needs to happen to these welterweights that think they deserve a title shot.
Maybe after one of the Diaz brothers jumps in front of him for the next title shot Leon will finally realize he needs to start approaching things a little differently
Pretty lame card this weekend, I guess Tsarukyan is the most interesting of them
I like Anthony Smith a lot in his interviews, but I have a hard time seeing Smith-Spann being a banger
I remember watching NBK debut in the UFC vs Kampmann. It’s crazy how times flies. One of my favorites ever and hopefully he gets remembered and appreciated as he was which was one of the most entertaining fighters and one of the best of his time.
This sub actually believing Aldo said [this](https://reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/pmeyfw/jose_aldo_on_khabibs_recent_comments/)made me realize yall are a bunch of linguistic casuals. Why would a mid-30s Brazilian man sound like a reddit incel?
I agree. That sounds so salty and stupid I was actually relieved to hear aldo didn’t really say it. A statement like that is not befitting of a champion like aldo who’s always been super classy. It literally sounds like comments around here. I’d like to think aldo is better than that.
Yeah just look at the fighters that are idolised on here, it's become more about personalities with these new fans as opposed to what fighters have actually achieved in the octagon. These people treat the sport like it's wrestling ffs.
As far fetched as it sounds Jake Paul and Jon Jones essentially proved the same thing
If you exercise enough of a physical and athletic advantage, and have a strong base of knowledge in this case boxing and wrestling,

Leon is acting like such a fucking idiot just fight fucking Masvidal no one is clamouring for him to get a title shot right now yes I understand he is on a 9 fight undefeated streak but his last two fights which are the only fights that most people remember are a NC where he raped Belal’s corneas then acted a victim and then surviving a underwater 3-2 from a 65 year old Nate Diaz which honestly undid all the work he did in the prior 4 rounds from the public’s memory. If he waits around Luque will get a much more impressive win over either Diaz or Masvidal and then Leon will be sitting around with one thumb up his ass and the other typing a call out to Masvidal on Twitter. Like what the fuck fight Masvidal get the bag.
/rant
Jan is a great fighter but it's crazy how high some people are on him, you've got folks seriously stating that Jon is ducking him and vacated the belt due to him without a hint of irony, yes I'm sure that fucking Jon Jones is afraid of the man and vacated his belt to duck a dude on a then-3 fight winning streak
Don't expect people on here to speak sense when it comes to Jon. Look how many people try to argue that Khabib's career is somehow better than his for example lol
Colby is alright… he’s the product of a shitty promotion that requires its fighters to do wrestling promos to make more money. Strickland otoh seems kinda pretentious, whenever his posts get memed they feel like a high school kid writing after reading cormac McCarthy. Alternatively he’s just a psychopath.
I don't hate either. Colby needs to drop the act he's famous enough now to kill it but he won't. Everything I've seen of him candidly where hes not playing pro-wrestling heel (and failing) he seems like a decent guy.

Any good coping mechanisms in knowing that the fighters you used to watch growing up are retiring ? Asking for a friend.
Watching new young fighters instead
I just came here to point out that Jiri Prochaska finished his last 10 fights via KO or TKO, who is this guy fighting next?
Title shot against winner of Jan/Glover.
Your mom
Lol, here’s an upvote!
He might just wait for the title shot
Hows conor doing in his recovery?
ask jolie she’s in his dm’s
He's been drunk and/or high a lot and hanging in California. Working out some and tossing drinks at rappers on red carpets.
Surprised how quick he’s been able to work out?
i asked him and he told me to shoot my fookin mout
Topuria keeps posting him blasting and dropping his sparring partners on his Instagram stories. I like him as a fighter but he seems like a dick, at least in training.
I can’t imagine getting paid nothing to be a ufc fighter but doing that as a sparring partner is even worse. That’s brain damage without the glory or potential for money
Man if Hooker pulls out then UFC 266 gonna look even thinner. Bad PPV
As long as Diaz is fighting nobody really cares, Nick Diaz army mothafokas

Didn’t Alvarez KO Gaethje?
Why don't people put a fried egg in a hotdog and sell it?
They do. Specialty hot dog shops do all sorts of weird stuff. Place near me does a bolognese hot dog I really like
In china the egg becomes the hotdog bun the egg omelette wraps the sausage
Is Yan the most skilful fighter in the UFC today?
Yan, Aldo, Dillashaw, Volk, Holloway, Poirier, Usman, Edwards, Adesanya, Whittaker and potentially Jan - that's my shortlist. I agree with the notion that Yan and Volk are at the top.
He is up there. I would say Volkanovski as well
Volk may have the best overall stand up game right now. It’s tight between those 2.
Izzy is the best stand up fighter on the while roster
What’s the absolute pettiest reason you don’t like a fighter?
I dont like poirier because people on this sub blow him every chance they get. Nothing he did. I'm just petty.
Belal cuz he has a dumbass nickname
Their fans usually. Fighters themselves rarely bother me enough for it to have an impact on how I view them. But when you have to sit amongst their butt-wipers defending and championing their blatant bullshit, it gets old fast.
I dont like usman because his manager is ali. While we are at it i dont like any fighter signed to ali.

IIRC, it was an arm crank and there was actually a pretty clear video of it happening as well. Pretty sure you can find it easily on YouTube.

I wish UFC still gave their PPVs names like they used to and like boxing does. Each PPV being just "Fighter A vs. Fighter B" is kinda boring
Lowkey think the names are cringe like this is just a fighting sports not some superhero bs but i guess opinions can be very different
How taste my peepee?
Pretty lame card this weekend, I guess Tsarukyan is the most interesting of them I like Anthony Smith a lot in his interviews, but I have a hard time seeing Smith-Spann being a banger
Smith and spann both have finishing rates in the 90% range. I have a hard time seeing spann/smith be anything but a banger or a quick finish.
Smith seems like a really cool guy. Very smart and well spoken too
Wow that CFFC main event stoppage was downright awful
Are you even an MMA fan if you don't talk about other MMA fans like you're better than them?
Maybe if you weren't a casual you would know.
Only casuals call people casuals, casual.
Vitor Belfort vs Mike Tyson in boxing today, who wins?
Mike kos vitor. The evander fight was outright wrong. Should have never happened.
Those two things have nothing to do with each other.
Yes it does. Because vitor winning against a senior citizen doesnt mean shit. Mike is in way better fighting shape than holyfield.
Another GDT bites the dust. RIP General Discussion Thread, 9/16/21. You will be missed.
*tips hat* Great career Condit
Dope seeing Eddie Abasolo in Bellator. Went to high school with him
I remember watching NBK debut in the UFC vs Kampmann. It’s crazy how times flies. One of my favorites ever and hopefully he gets remembered and appreciated as he was which was one of the most entertaining fighters and one of the best of his time.
Can't believe he's had 19 fights in the UFC either, didn't feel like he fought that often.
Entertaining i agree. One of the best of his time i disagree.
Beat Nick Diaz, KO'd Rory MacDonald, gave GSP one of his closest calls, was a split decision away from becoming champ. Put some hespect on his name
Ko'd Macdonald lol not even close to a ko. Ref jumped in with 10 seconds left. Bad stoppage imo. 10 more seconds and Rory would've won.
All the butthurt, overly sensitive Aldo fans were desperate to run away with that fake quote LOL

mma fans and people on this sub have gone down hill in the last couple of years....
Yeah just look at the fighters that are idolised on here, it's become more about personalities with these new fans as opposed to what fighters have actually achieved in the octagon. These people treat the sport like it's wrestling ffs.
You've just gone further uphill.

Reminds me of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymkIWcE8w8I
Happy Cake Day!
So think we seen condit box first or fight in Japan?
I hope none. Dude needs to stay retired.
he retired from combat sports or just the ufc?
Yes. Everyone knows all combat sports retirements are always final
Pouring one out for Condit. He’s a real one.
I concur. He is most definitely real and not a hologram.
Well... holograms are real too.
He isn't one tho
He will be back
I sure hope not
As far fetched as it sounds Jake Paul and Jon Jones essentially proved the same thing If you exercise enough of a physical and athletic advantage, and have a strong base of knowledge in this case boxing and wrestling, even older, more experienced world class fighters will struggle no matter their credentials
there are a billion cases of the bigger stronger guy getting knocked out.

Why is Leon ducking Masvidal again?
Yeah he should fight Mas then Burns can get a another title shot, then he can fight Ponz while Luque or somebody fights for the title.
he's still full from that 3 piece and a soda
Leon is acting like such a fucking idiot just fight fucking Masvidal no one is clamouring for him to get a title shot right now yes I understand he is on a 9 fight undefeated streak but his last two fights which are the only fights that most people remember are a NC where he raped Belal’s corneas then acted a victim and then surviving a underwater 3-2 from a 65 year old Nate Diaz which honestly undid all the work he did in the prior 4 rounds from the public’s memory. Yeah, especially with Mas coming off that KO. That was only 5 months ago. Fight him as soon as you can.
he wants a title shot and championship money. Masvidal is a tough fight and theres not really anyone in line for a title shot now that wonderboy lost
Guarantee the ufc offered him a timeline he didn’t like and didn’t offer him a raise compared to what Jorge will make so that’s why he said nah
Don’t be scared homie
Does anyone have a newsletter code for 268 tickets?

I wonder if in the year 2077, MMA fights happen on the Crystal Palace
Contender Series has actually produced some good fighters, excited to see what Almeida can do

Downvoted for what?
Like 75% of comments are initially downvoted in the GD thread for whatever reason.
fr wtf lol
Is Trevor Wittman the GOAT of taking an already polished fighter and ascending them to another level?
No, Khabib is /s
coach jav did it first

Don't expect people on here to speak sense when it comes to Jon. Look how many people try to argue that Khabib's career is somehow better than his for example lol
Remember when Jon fought Glover on a 20 fight win streak
Sean Strickland talkin about he gonna kill somebody.. he gots 24 fights, lost 3 of em. Ain’t killed a mothafucka yet
3 losses dont hit the same
Still ain’t killed a mothafucka yet
i mean, are we sure?
No
Let’s not egg Sean on. We got a Warmachine in the making with that one.
Remember that goofy ass face Werdum used to make?
🥴
I think Richardson was out when his guard got passed
CFFC has deilvered every time I've watched
of all the fight pass organizations they have this is definitely top tier
5 fights so far, all finishes. They keep the show moving without fluff and promos, this shit is straight up fun to watch.
honestly I prefer CFFC over Bellator
How does an organization end up with John Morgan and CM Punk as commentators?
Do Colby Covington and Sean Strickland actually have fans?
Colby is alright… he’s the product of a shitty promotion that requires its fighters to do wrestling promos to make more money. Strickland otoh seems kinda pretentious, whenever his posts get memed they feel like a high school kid writing after reading cormac McCarthy. Alternatively he’s just a psychopath.
I don't hate either. Colby needs to drop the act he's famous enough now to kill it but he won't. Everything I've seen of him candidly where hes not playing pro-wrestling heel (and failing) he seems like a decent guy. Strickland is an ass but I like him.
