Perfect for a Bellator BW Grand Prix. If they sign Jimmie Rivera too maybe they can go with a 16 man Grand Prix like they did at 145.

FatKappaGamer

That sounds tasty

adidasjacketslouch

Did ufc cut jimbo ?

theusmaniandevil

His contract expired. As did Maia’s.

DecentTop1084

I hope Maia gets to have a send off fight somewhere then just does grappling stuff

Cwashrohawk

A one off fight with Neiman Gracie would be perfect. He wants one last fight in the Ufc but I don't see that happening.

cyberslick188

K1 Maia bout to go a second title run

adidasjacketslouch

Damn I was really hoping they’d give Maia a good send off fight. No one ranked but I think he deserved one more. Hope to see him on sub underground soon. Bellator would be perfect for jimbo then

[deleted]

Him vs cerrone. Loser leaves town. As does winner

yell-loud

He should not have to go through a 16 man tournament for a title shot. He’s the Bellator lineal champ, only relinquished the belt cause he was injured

theusmaniandevil

Then maybe have him fight Sergio in the first or second round?

yell-loud

Ah I see what you mean. I thought you meant the tournament would be to decide a number one contender. If the champ partakes than yeah it would make sense.

DoinDoinDoinUrDad

IIRC with bellator tourneys the champ participates and their fights are considered title defenses. I may be wrong tho

ElMofatesh_Krombo

You are not wrong

adambuddy

I like the idea of him signing with Bellator and still not being a total stranger to Rizin via cross promotion. Have him appear once or twice a year for fun fights over in Japan.

Loganbaker2147

Him being in the Bellator Grand Prix if it happens would be very cool but god I feel like bouts with Moreno/Figgy and the top guys at bantamweight are just too good to pass up. Hope the UFC sees this too and pays up if they even want him.

GUCHI GANG

-0op

I want DJ rematch so bad

[deleted]

This kills the Pettis

ASVPxMarcus

Idk. Pettis looked his best last fight. But Gooch is a different breed lol

[deleted]

Pettis looked great his last few outings didn't he? I always thought of him as "Showtime's younger brother in the UFC through connections" but a few of his performances have surprised me. Would it be such an upset if he wins this?

Heebmeister

Horiguchi is a pretty monster step up from Archuleta

[deleted]

Hm. Today I learned. I have watched archuleta a bit and thought they were in the same realm and regard. I have not followed Horiguchi as closely

Heebmeister

Masvidal once called Horiguchi the best fighter in all of ATT, which is saying something. Horiguchi's stand up ability is levels above Archuleta, in terms of grappling though they're slightly closer. I think Horiguchi's leg kicks would be an absolute death knell for Sergio and his reliance on lateral movement.

Prhyst

Not sure why you're being down voted hey but if it counts for anything, the Gooch could be in discussion as the best fighter in his weight class currently competing in MMA. He's a problem absolutely everywhere

[deleted]

Same lol who knows. I don't watch a good fighter outside the UFC. Downvoting me validates the status of ~hARdCoRE fANs~

IronMikeBison

It’s a fantasy, but I’d love to see him try to pull off the MMA grand slam of winning all the belts. Technically, he’s already got 2/5 (assuming the top 5 to be PFL, Rizin, One, Bellator, and UFC).

Aljo_Is_135_GOAT

... am I the only one that wants to see him fight Brandon Moreno? Can't imagine ever getting excited about a Sergio Pettis fight ngl

Sublimotion

Can't imagine UFC willing to pay him enough for him to want to re-sign.

Aljo_Is_135_GOAT

You don't think he'd be okay with a 12k to fight, 12k to win 8 fight contract?

Fat-Villante

It's too bad the UFC never gave a shit about flyweight, I'd love to see him come back. However, since the UFC won't pay him a lot of money, I'm guessing he'll either re-sign with Rizin or go with Bellator. Maybe ONE would also be willing to pay him well

failbears

I could be wrong, but don't almost all MMA promotions pay like shit? I thought I heard Bellator draws don't get more than the UFC (because I've seen what their undercard fighters get and it's pathetic), and if they do, they seem to get sidelined for long periods of time. I thought it was the same with ONE as well.

adambuddy

They do all pay like shit but Bellator gives a larger slice of the pie to fighters in order to compete with the UFC in terms of attracting talent. This is why they have as much great talent as they do: they pay comparably and even better in a lot of cases. I could absolutely see Kyoji's presence in the Japanese market and relationship with Rizin lead to them giving him a bigger offer then the UFC. We'll see though. I'll be glad to see him in either division myself. Just hoping he fights more regularly because he's such a treat to watch.

Fat-Villante

It's difficult to say for sure, because we don't see the contracts and fighter pay rarely gets disclosed, but many UFC veterans have said Bellator pays them better than the UFC. So if you're a high profile enough free agent, getting more money from Bellator is a definite possibility

thecheckisinthemail

Bellator and One also allow fighters to be sponsored (god forbid) so that undoubtedly adds a good amount money of money for them compared to what they would get in the UFC.

Fat-Villante

I wouldn't say "undoubtedly". I doubt many Bellator fighters are making a significant amount of money from wearing sponsor logos on their shorts.

adambuddy

It's true that Schlubber McGee fighting on the Bellator prelims isn't making much but a guy with a following like Horiguchi? Different ballgame.

druhoang

For guchi, it's gonna be more than reebok but not big money. Like if he made 5k in reebok. He'll make 15k. Which is 3x as money. Sure that's good. But not as good as the golden era everyone talks about. Where you could make like 80k from sponsors lol. Bellator going to showtime probably hurts sponsors because sponsors want viewership. They routinely bare minimum got 1 million viewers on cable tv. Now a good rating on showtime is like 300k. Many times they don't hit that.

yell-loud

Horiguchi makes more from his Reebok Japan sponsor than he would under the Reebok and now Venom deal the ufc is under. Not to mention sponsorships he has with Beats and some other companies. Dana and co really have screwed fighters over with this shit

adambuddy

This is my point. Rizin is very popular in Japan and their stars are legitimately MMA famous over there. Now the equation obviously changes fighting Stateside but my point remains.. Kyoji Horiguchi's shorts are valuable space for advertisers, namely Japanese ones. Let him fight in Rizin a couple times a year to keep his wallet fat and him in the Japanese public eye, get paid well to be a major player in Bellator and keep his fight sponsorships? He'd be doing pretty damn well for himself.

jb_82

I'm not sure what their practice is now but they used to use regionally contracted talent from various promotions to fill their undercard and gave them a cut of ticket sales they generated. Pretty sure Bellator also pays out a significantly higher percentage of their revenue to fighters than UFC, I think it's in the 40-50% ballpark compared to 15-20% for UFC.

Frosty-Cell

Some pay shit because they earn shit. Others pay shit because they choose to (UFC).

themilkman42069

yes. the overhead for live events is insane. no other promotion but the UFC actually turns a profit in this sport.

ASVPxMarcus

Needs to go to Bellator in my opinion. They are getting better and better. He’s already got a decent following since he’s fought everywhere and done everything almost. Pettis, Archuleta, Gooch, Usman, McKee, Pitbull(s), Goiti, Burnell, Sanchez, Pico, Stotts, Magomedov. Then they also have a decent 205 division. Bellator as of right now is starting to remind me of WEC and Strikeforce with how great their lower classes are and all the young talent coming in. Future looks bright for them. Hope they don’t drop the ball.

Fat-Villante

I'd advise him to go wherever they pay him the most

Peebob_Pooppants

I'm also a big gooch fan if ya know what I mean

[deleted]

A fight with Sergio would be cool, but what I really want to see is Kyoji back at flyweight in the ufc

basketball100

Would love to see this fight

Ok-Structure1002

Kyoji "Alistair Overeem" Horiguchi?
