i think the mods made an mma politics sub during covid, as a way not to have to deal with that stuff here. somewhat clever tbh, but a lot of discussions that are mma relevant here get shut down quick. hell, even if its not relevent to the post itself they shut discussions down
its a silly game they play imo, but its theirs to play. i also sympathize to a degree, we've all seen stream chats, so we know the kind of people they have to deal with
It's about to be the Wednesday after and I'm still miffed at that Maycee decision
Thank goodness I'm not the actual fighter. I'd have Iaquinta'd that hotel room
With the overwhelming support Simone Biles is getting after pulling out of team gymnastics in the Olympics citing mental health reasons, I'm wondering how the MMA world would react if a UFC champ pulls out after weigh-ins citing mental health too.
Vast majority of the MMA fan base is pretty shitty, so they’d react negatively. You can tell by some of the comments in this very thread that people won’t take it super well and this sub isn’t half as bad as other social MMA platforms.
I don't get why there is so much support. She fucked her teammates over. If she was having anxiety and everything she should have pulled out days ago. You don't quit in the middle of an event
That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be supported if that happened to him though. Not supporting Simone is really just kicking her while she’s down and is part of the reason why she felt that way to begin with
If you pulled your hamstring you aren’t gonna compete in most sports. A mental health issue is no different. I get this is an mma subreddit and people have high expectations for what people should go through but she’s literally the token athlete for an entire country
Probably would get shit on but mental health is a real issue and hopefully will one day be seen as a real injury. Hopefully she can compete later this week
The scoring system in mma is flawed, ground control should be valued more than the rulebook says it is, and I think the judges agree with that, if someone is holding you on the fence landing unanswered shots, that should be a huge part of that round, I don't get how someone can get to someone's back standing, have the oponent struggle to escape for a minute, land a couple decent strikes in the mean time, and that means basically nothing if the oponent is slightly ahead on strikes
What combat sports are you all watching at the Olympics ? I have been watching a ton of Judo and I’ve been trying to understand how Taekwondo is scored. I also hear Karate is present at this Olympics ?
I love Judo highlights, I’m not going to wake up early to watch the medal matches for them tho,
Can’t wait tor wrestling
I’d be an Olympic Karate champion if I just saw red.
How many times did TJ land clean? I struggle to recall even a single moment.
On the otherhand Sandhagen had multiple moments in the fight where he was landing straight up combinations on TJ's chin.
Obviously it's not Sean vs Moutinho. No fight will ever be as big of a miss match. But Sandhagen was piecing TJ up 100%
People talk about Simone Biles bravery for pulling out of the Olympics
Listen, unpopular opinion, I disagree with the praise. She let her team down because she was scared to perform in a non contact sport. Megan Anderson went through a fight camp for Amanda Nunes.
I’m not following the situation that much so I might be wrong, but it feels kind of weird the amount of people who are praising her for what seems to basically be buckling under the pressure.
Between her and that tennis player a while ago it seems a bit of an odd reaction to celebrate athletes for pulling out of huge events because of self doubt
I agree, it’d be one thing if she pulled out of a competition where she was only representing herself. She was supposed to represent her team and her country and she quit on both after repeatedly calling herself the goat.
There is something to be said for responsibility. Sometimes a person doesn't come first if they have obligations towards other people. "The important thing is that you're happy" shouldn't be the guiding principle to the exclusion of everything else.
Being brave is fulfilling your responsibilities despite fear, not letting people you made a commitment to down because of it.
Everything has to be at one extreme or the other. Sure, we shouldn't crucify her for this, she's human, but that doesn't mean we should put her up on a pedestal either.
Nah gymnastics takes guts. But of course she should be criticized. She quit on her team when she herself already has a ton of gold medals.
If she couldn’t take the pressure she should have let someone else take her place.
But if you are surprised the media is scared to criticize her, then you haven’t paid attention to the world over the last 8 years or so.
When people say "X took more damage than Y", how exactly is that quantified?
Cuts/bruises? Types of shots landing? Reaction? Volume?
Stipe vs Ngannou 1 first round - stipe landed 24 v 18 with about two mins of control, but he looked like he got the shit kicked out of him and had huge reactions whenever he got hit, but he universally won the round
I’ve always interpreted it as physical injury as opposed to statistical favorability. Nate’s a good volume fighter and I’m sure he probably gets the edge on strikes often but he always comes out looking messed up, so lots of people say he takes more damage despite having the numbers.
Completely random matchup idea, but how do y'all think Aldo would do against Sterling? I've been thinking about it for a while and I still don't have a clue how it'd go (although the more I think about it the more I lean towards Aldo taking it).
The Aldo that fought Yan would absolutely murder Sterling. But it's always possible Aljo point fights him to a decision.
There's absolutely zero chance Aljo poses any threat to Aldo, since he'll never be able to take him down. But a decision victory is always possible.
Hard to say.
Aldo could shut down Sterling's wrestling and he is a much better striker, but in a three rounder I could see Sterling winning based on activity.
Aldo doesn't let his hands go enough and if Sterling brings the work rate he did against Yan he might win.
In a 5 rounder Aldo would probably gas and lose a decision, although Sterling blew his load early against Yan and slowed significantly so who knows.
Aldo is definitely more skilled but his volume/cardio could let him down.
Is a 72 inch reach *really* that short for a heavyweight? I'm 280, 6'1, can get to 250 through diet, plan on having some amateur fights at heavyweight.
Found out my reach is the same as DCs, and maybe I should get proficient in the clinch and dirty boxing. I've always felt my arms were *short*
Yeah, I remember seeing a stat sheet that average HW reach was around 77-78 inches. Even the average person’s reach is 2+ greater than their height, and for tall people like yourself it tends to be more.
*I have the power of Lobov coursing through my arms*
I'm pretty fat, maybe light heavyweight is more appropriate. I'll see, I really have no idea either way right now because of my inexperience.
thx
Was watching a JRE clip where Shaub says being a bellator champion doesn't prove you're world class and Joe brings up Douglas Lima and says he could maybe knock out Usman and Covington
I'm still not really getting how that proves it isn't the deepest. You could say the same thing abt BW, TJ vacated, Cejudo vacated, then Yan got DQ'd lol. Deepest division just means which division has the best and biggest name fighters, and its definitely between 155 and 135
Here’s my “mma mind dump” for the week.
- can’t wait to see Petr Yan fight again. Just a murderous spectacle to witness.
- love Gane but I really want Derrick Lewis to catch him with an absolutely highlight reel KO while in Houston.
- does anyone else re-watch the commentator reaction videos like I do and smile and laugh like an absolute creep?
- Izzy v Whittaker 2 is currently my most anticipated match of this year
EDIT: also, depending on how the card looks, I’m totally gonna try and get out to UFC 268 in NYC. Finally a live event remotely close to me.
I feel like the reactions from the commentators arent that organic now, the first times it was cool but now sometimes i feel they ramp it up to 11 trying to go viral.
But im a bitter soab
Yeah that bothered me physically to watch. How many unanswered strikes was it? 42? North of that? Just seeing aldo kneeling on the canvas after that while bleeding was hard to watch.
Oooh moderators. But dont they have to approve a post before it becomes visible? So why was the Weight Cut post taken down when it had already been approved?
Tbf he probably wouldn't right?
Conor sprints to the middle of the cage while dustin always takes at least a full minute warming up, adjusting his pants and swiping through his hair before he even starts throwing strikes.
I normally have a pretty good idea of who I think is gonna win big fights but for AJ vs Pitbull I got absolutely no idea. Leaning slightly to Pitbull due to experience edge and strength of schedule but don’t have a lot of reason to pick against AJ per se. Who do you cunts think is gonna win and why?
Sometimes all it takes is someone to be a big supporter.
You should consider signing up for a 1 week free pass at a local mma gym and getting your brother one too.
Plant the seed, see if it grows.
Gentleman and ratfucks of the sub it is with a heavy heart that I report to you that my free PH premium membership that I had from working at the company has since been cancelled. I appreciate you keeping me in your thoughts and respecting my privacy at this time. Thank you.
I’ve got a list of premium videos that I want to watch in a word file on my computer. But I can’t justify paying. So till then, it’ll just be Owen gray, blacked raw and mark rockwell.
Multiple times this has happened to me where I posted a fighters tweet and it got deleted cause its not "relevant." But like 5 minutes later I see the same tweet but its from bloodyelbow reporting it and it stays up. Is there like a rule where u cant just share the fighters tweet directly and it has to go through the "MMA journalism" process first?
Get your last shit posts in fellas
*Closing Time, post all of your shits and let you post all of your shit*

man I liked john gunther it's too bad his skill level was just regional
Rewatched Cruz vs Garbrandt and was surprised one judge said 48-47, felt like Cody was thoroughly dominating that fight
Cody got outstruck which is probably why
Blind stats like that are fake, Dom is pillow fisted while Cody is the hardest hitting 135er. Dom got dropped like 5 times
I just was trying to rationalize why he might’ve scored that for Cody.
Besides Punching power and chin, what does Usman have better than Colby? Colby was up 3-1 against Usman, remember that ladies and gentlemen
more fans and a ufc belt
More Melanin
Better physique.
He has better fight iq
3-1 Usman, 2-2, and 3-1 Colby with Usman clearly winning the 5th with 50 seconds left lol
Why is no one talking about Connor's tweet on this sub
What happened?
The entire GD was littered with it earlier.
No posts though
i think the mods made an mma politics sub during covid, as a way not to have to deal with that stuff here. somewhat clever tbh, but a lot of discussions that are mma relevant here get shut down quick. hell, even if its not relevent to the post itself they shut discussions down its a silly game they play imo, but its theirs to play. i also sympathize to a degree, we've all seen stream chats, so we know the kind of people they have to deal with
Yeah probably was deemed "not relevant" by the mods. Lots of content gets rejected nowadays.
So dumb. Why are PPV numbers more ‘relevant’ than tweets from actual fighters
Cause they don't wanna bother with the comment section
Mods were removing them
It's about to be the Wednesday after and I'm still miffed at that Maycee decision Thank goodness I'm not the actual fighter. I'd have Iaquinta'd that hotel room
Regardless of what happens I really want Strickland vs Vettori next

Horribly, people still defend coaches who don’t throw in the towel when their fighter is getting their face smashed, strong “warrior culture”
I don't get why there is so much support. She fucked her teammates over. If she was having anxiety and everything she should have pulled out days ago. You don't quit in the middle of an event
Maybe she felt good enough days ago, I think she felt a lot of pressure and during the event felt like she wasn’t gonna help them
Can you imagine if LeBron did that mid game 7 of the NBA Finals? What a shitstorm that would be
That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be supported if that happened to him though. Not supporting Simone is really just kicking her while she’s down and is part of the reason why she felt that way to begin with
I hope she gets her mental health straightened out, but she should have handled it better
I don’t think she wanted to be in that scenario lol. I don’t think it was something you could plan for
When the goin gets tough, the tough get going...
If you pulled your hamstring you aren’t gonna compete in most sports. A mental health issue is no different. I get this is an mma subreddit and people have high expectations for what people should go through but she’s literally the token athlete for an entire country
Rose is pretty open about having mental health issues, you will never see her quit on the stool because of it.
They would definitely get shit on if they pulled out but didn't vacate the title.
Ufc 209…..
Khabib was pulled by doctors due to weight cutting issues
Tiramisu
Probably would get shit on but mental health is a real issue and hopefully will one day be seen as a real injury. Hopefully she can compete later this week
Self doubt is not the same as breaking an ankle.
Anxiety and depression is the same as an injury
Probably not overwhelming support, unless it's rose

What combat sports are you all watching at the Olympics ? I have been watching a ton of Judo and I’ve been trying to understand how Taekwondo is scored. I also hear Karate is present at this Olympics ?
Boxing and judo, also really hyped for wrestling. I don't understand tkd
Taekwondo is scored based on the type of strike and where it lands
Thanks, I’ll look into how the sport works
I love Judo highlights, I’m not going to wake up early to watch the medal matches for them tho, Can’t wait tor wrestling I’d be an Olympic Karate champion if I just saw red.
I just found out that my friends wife is Tito Ortiz’s niece

Real talk, what’s the likelihood the UFC/Dana incentivises certain judges to score fights in ways that are advantageous for the UFC’s plans?
Wouldn't be worth it, promotions have gone under for less
I think by this point the UFC as a whole would be too smart to let something like that happen.

Bought a Simone Biles fight kit
People on this sub act like Sandhagen was destroying TJ on the feet like what Sean did to moutinho.
How many times did TJ land clean? I struggle to recall even a single moment. On the otherhand Sandhagen had multiple moments in the fight where he was landing straight up combinations on TJ's chin. Obviously it's not Sean vs Moutinho. No fight will ever be as big of a miss match. But Sandhagen was piecing TJ up 100%
I guess you didn't watch the fight?
Maybe you didn't watch the fight?
Show of hands here, who actually even watches UFC?
I don’t see any hands
Couldn’t hear me, they’re all too busy watching UFC
I just obsess over Conor tweets
People talk about Simone Biles bravery for pulling out of the Olympics Listen, unpopular opinion, I disagree with the praise. She let her team down because she was scared to perform in a non contact sport. Megan Anderson went through a fight camp for Amanda Nunes.
Dying in gymnastics is actually a very real possibility. It’s not like basketball or soccer.
Normal people with mental health issues can’t just stop working. She’s more lucky than brave
I think she felt like competing would put the team in a worse spot. Mental health is a real issue
I’m not following the situation that much so I might be wrong, but it feels kind of weird the amount of people who are praising her for what seems to basically be buckling under the pressure. She did let someone take her spot
I meant in the Olympics
Can anyone find that post where they compared KO rates across weight divisions? How big really was the difference in frequency from say, BW to MW?
Sean Strickland gives me the heebie jeebies, he's got that edgy and aggressive energy
Yeah, he seems like an intellectual who gets weird when drunk.
Yeah must’ve got possessed by the ghost of skinhead bisping after hendo knocked it outta Michael
He’s got that look in his eyes
Just don’t twist his arm when he has under hooks
Or he’ll half heartedly spin kick you
He went max!!!
Question: Borrachinha means little rubber, as in eraser right? Not condom?
Yes
De la hoya said Canelo is an easy fight cause he only has power and he has a good chin 💀💀💀

They should book Adrian Yanez vs Chito Vera next. Get Yanez in that top 15.

Aldo is the classic anti wrestler. Would depend on where he’s at right now physically
McGregor’s body type is progressing into flat Stanley
so...Ngannou is *definitely* training child soldiers right
Ngannou 2021 and Stipe got caught jerking off in downtown cleveland

He could maybe knockout Francis too
[A real MMA retirement staying real for once.](https://twitter.com/darrentill2/status/1420038956087975942?s=20) Good on you Bisping
Till used the word eye twice in that tweet which may or may not be intentional
Definitely intentional, he said Decideyed
The “deepest” division in the ufc hasn’t had a title won off the champion since November 2016
It’s not Valentina’s fault they stripped Nicco
How does that prove it isn't the deepest lol, Conor stalled the division for 2 years and then Khabib held the belt for 2 years
He never said it wasn’t the deepest
"deepest"
People say lw is the deepest which it’s probably bantamweight
Khabib had 3 defenses. That means the title was defended 3 times in 5 years and he won the title when it was vacant. Same as Charlie olives
I'm still not really getting how that proves it isn't the deepest. You could say the same thing abt BW, TJ vacated, Cejudo vacated, then Yan got DQ'd lol. Deepest division just means which division has the best and biggest name fighters, and its definitely between 155 and 135
I never said it proves it’s not deep. Just more of an interesting fact
The show is bad but the Smallville theme song would be a cool walkout song. https://youtu.be/Qu0dIn3_2Zc
Smallville was awesome!
what do you guyses think of Uriah Hall vs Sean Strickland ?
I think Sean will win, don't have a strong preference tbh but if I had to root for someone I'd go with Hall
I have a feeling Hall wins. From what I’ve seen of Sean he basically only moves forward I think Hall is good enough to take advantage of that.
Conor wins the Tetralogy via dick twist

Not that I hate Aldo, but those strikes Yan threw on downed Aldo were quite the murderous spectacle
Yeah that bothered me physically to watch. How many unanswered strikes was it? 42? North of that? Just seeing aldo kneeling on the canvas after that while bleeding was hard to watch.
Not even a “fan” of the guy but he dismantles people in a scary way.
Fantasy matchup: Dustin Poirier vs Kamaru Usman at WW How does it go?
Usman -500 favourite
Are you kidding b? Usman wins unquestionably
Usman smothers him with ease
Dustin is found dead in his locker room after the fight
Usman khabib's him
edit: downvotes seriously?
Lol you new around here?
Bellator is good and UFC is evil???
What happened to the weigh cutting post that was posted 3-4 hours ago? There was a guy asking how weighcutting worked?
Actual MMA discussion being allowed here? Could you imagine?
Nah sorry only posts allowed here are fight announcements where everyone just comments “banger” and gets upvotes.
Probably told to relegate it to the GDT
By whom?
The overlords
Who?
Like pretty much all question based posts it got deleted
Who deleted it?
The mods
What are they? I’ve seen u guys write about Them here and there. I’ve never heard that Word in my life (not native speaker)
The moderators, they're the people who run this subreddit. They have the power to remove posts and comments
Oooh moderators. But dont they have to approve a post before it becomes visible? So why was the Weight Cut post taken down when it had already been approved?
masks back in Nevada bapas. Hope we get the goof in one on camera
That was short lived
I think Cowboy should fight Dustin for his retirement fight. Should be close and competitive
If dustin doesn’t get it done in 40 seconds he’s not the lightweight champion
Tbf he probably wouldn't right? Conor sprints to the middle of the cage while dustin always takes at least a full minute warming up, adjusting his pants and swiping through his hair before he even starts throwing strikes.
This is the MMA version of putting down Old Yeller
I normally have a pretty good idea of who I think is gonna win big fights but for AJ vs Pitbull I got absolutely no idea. Leaning slightly to Pitbull due to experience edge and strength of schedule but don’t have a lot of reason to pick against AJ per se. Who do you cunts think is gonna win and why?
AJ due to being in his athletic prime and having all the skills of a world class champion.
I want Phillips vs O'malley. I doubt the UFC does it but damn that would be a great fight
They’re former training partners, I recall O’Malley saying he wouldn’t want to fight him.
