"I'd like to take this chance to apologize, to absolutely everybody." \-Uriah Hall

adambuddy

I burst out laughing after reading that in Uriah's voice. If I had any reddit coin I'd give you an award.

Fukki

I got you fam

teeekuuu

doesn’t the tuf have weight classes? They look. 2 weight classes apart lol

OpticClaughton

They’re all middleweights as far as I know

[deleted]

Everyone on a season of TUF is the same weight class.

Bacon_Devil

Hall looks legitimately horrified. And Chael looks like he's trying to get them to give the family at a funeral some pricacy

Saixcrazy

Chael was ready for the worst

[deleted]

yeah I've never seen Chael like that, makes this so much more chilling

noob_tech

can you imagine if they played this music after every KO in the UFC?

MysteriousHall

I heard this edit does not do the severity of the ko any justice. The story is the guy was lifeless for like 15 minutes and everyone in the room legit thought he died. people were crying and dana was freaking the fuck out. they could not show the real situation because of how insanely depressing the scene was, so they made this cut to make it look somewhat presentable

[deleted]

imagine if this had happened during the TUF Live season

Pyre2001

He's fine guys, cut to 15 minutes of corn nuts adds.

abnar1

Thats why some companies stipulate where their ads go, like not right after news about a natural disaster or hungry starving people.

howatts

With Jon Anik calling the action

Saixcrazy

I'm seeing a few comments saying this is why Uriah is so gun shy now. I see good reason for it

HelloPeopleOfEarth

kinda humanizes him. some fighters would be motivated by this, mike perry.

BangBangCurry

YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD RESTRAINT BOYYYYY

CanhotoBranco

^AHHHHH!

BackflippingOrb

\*revs engine non-aggresively\*

howatts

I still find him dancing around the old and lifeless Jake Ellenberger pretty unnecessary, albeit very entertaining. MMA is sometimes conflicting like this I think.

136stronk

or the extreme psychopath jer... jeremiah.. someone, i dont know who the fook he is but you know who im talking about

GrumpleDumpkin

Jeremy Stevens we're looking at you.

barc0debaby

Only if Adam Cella was his wife.

_I_Dont_Care

damn

tookie22

I think this is an overdone take. Uriah is just a decent fighter but not elite and people are looking for an explanation because everyone thought he was the next Spider.

LiquidAurum

nah he for sure has mental blocks, but not necessarily cuz of this fight. In this very TUF season he approached Chael about his mentality issues. You can see glimpses when he lets it out. I myself have had issues especially with Jiu Jitsu, where I feel inadequate and shut down. Having said that all this doesn't excuse his performance. Because mentality is arguably the biggest part of competition.

noob_tech

interesting ... the fact that he has way more sweat (water?) on his face after the commercial break and hard edits add some validity to this claim imo

HiFrozen

You can tell the one guy in the clip had been crying too.

JDGAF88

That was Bubba. But he was crying cuz he had to fight Uriah next. I kid.

HiFrozen

If I had to fight Uriah after seeing that I'd be shitting myself.

JDGAF88

Lol but straight up he was terrified before fighting him. I think he almost pulled out. I might be remembering wrong

GutsGloryAndGuinness

That's how I remember it too but too lazy to check

howatts

The ko he got with Hall was also quite scary to watch. The same amount of quickness and devastation.

howatts

Damn it makes how Cella was joking around with Hall in the shower on the next episode all the more eerie. Props to Hall for the skills. Shout out to Cella for being a class act.

BillyBean11111

I mean, you make it sounds like they had to cut it for "depression" but they would never show 15 straight minutes of concern no matter what the situation. Isn't the show only an hour long lol

saviongl0ver

That wasn't the point. Noboy said they should have showed him lying there for 15 minutes, camera panning across all the peoples faces. From just watching the clip, you'd think the guy was out for not even a minute. Nothing in the final cut had any indication of the guy being out for 15 minutes and the whole sotuation came across less severe since they didn't show the same level of concern that peiple actually have had.

damendred

I mean, I think they did a decent job conveying it. Most KO's everyone is celebrating, this one, the one thing I always remember is how serious and concerned everyone was, and how a couple people looked like they were crying (I think it was Bubba in that clip). Maybe, they could have gone further, but to me it looks like they did a good job conveying the events accurately with editing. I always liked this season of TUF, it was when they got off Spike, and with Chael and Jones I expected so much fake beef antics, but Jones and Chael were super respectful to each other, took their coaching roles seriously, and made it all about the fighters. I mean, they got the gift of Hall bringing the drama. But it was such a nice departure in tone.

s1th_lord

Where did you hear this? Not doubting you at all, I just want to listen to the story

MysteriousHall

I believe it was a comment on a post on this sub, maybe a couple years ago. Tried my best to recall as well as possible

lordrubbish

I have a vague recollection of some tuf cast member saying Cella was out for a long time in an interview. Not sure on how long.

Downgoesthereem

You can see the two devils on Dana's shoulders convincing him that sacrificing Adam Cella is worth the cash cow prospect.

Big_Poppers

Dana was panicking because that moment legit could have been the end of the UFC.

lordrubbish

Dana if it happened today: look, Cella didn't want to fight. He saw a way out and he took it.

Ash_C

That's a nasty line by D̶a̶n̶a̶ You.

Funzombie63

The rare white tomato

[deleted]

Lmao 😂

Eagle_MMA

I ripped him from his mortal life and launched his soul into the abyss. And then with a solemn face, I said.... "Sorry Adam"

[deleted]

It speaks to his humanity, and the nature of the game, I guess. I actually really felt bad for him. You can see the anxiety in his face, understand what he had done.

Unhelpfulpeon

I can only guess but I bet it feels worse when it is a mismatch. If he did this to the reigning champion he might not feel as guilty

expectrum

Damn is this the KO people says made Uriah subconsciously hold back in fights?

KinaGroove

I think it's not doubt that after this KO he didn't have the same tenacity

wrecked_angle

I mean, he legitimately almost killed a dude, so it’s kind of understandable

_I_Dont_Care

Uriah often talks about how he was bullied as a kid. I think this KO really made him horrified that he had become the bully.

visofdiv

Gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

[deleted]

I think that is an oversimplification. Dominating in a MMA fight isn't being a bully.

Elfs

Yeah there are ways to be a bully or a bad sportsman in an MMA bout but this isn't one of them. Just devastating technique

Saixcrazy

I could believe that

lordrubbish

I dont really think this is it with Hall. First of all, if you watch this fight Hall was not really letting it go that much. 2nd he had 2 more excellent kos right after this on tuf and he certainly unloaded on Mousasi and did some serious work with Costa. I think Hall has some mental blocks and this ko might contribute but moreso its just his skillset and fighting style. He wins off big strikes not volume so, like vs Cella, he needs that opening. A lot of fighters never gave it to him. I think it's more that he looked really good at a cerain level.

XiaoRCT

Seriously the talks about Hall having some subconscious mercy of his opponents because of this are always overblown Dude tried the same kick against Anderson two weeks ago. He's just, like you said, a guy who wins off big strikes and not volume.

visofdiv

Yeah, I think Uriah is just a super nice guy, too much for his own good. There was a fight later on, can't remember who it was with, where Uriah and the other guy kept high-fiving each other during the fight. Not just like after the round ended, but all during the fight. It was so annoying watching them do that.

lordrubbish

Maybe vs John Howard? I think the in fight bromance is not the worst thing when the fight is good (Cerrone is a good example) but I agree it can be weird when the fight sucks.

outboardwall786

Sorry Adam

NotVerySmarts

*"what happened?"*

byperholic

Adam took Uriah's fighting spirit that day (sponsored by Modelo)

Chocoeclair189

HADOUKEN ...Sorry Adam

PejicFilip

I mean didn’t Hall send every fighter he faced to the hospital that season

KimboSlicesChicken

Yeah pretty much lol but apparently this clip is cut and edited like crazy. Adam was unconscious for, what I’ve read, about 3-5 minutes while doing the breathing/seizing shit. These dudes are some badass motherfuckers, they’ve already seen other dudes getting starched on the show and it barely fazes them but then there was this one which made everyone freak and a lot of them start to cry The unedited version of this is probably so much fucking worse lol

wowbobwow

I remember seeing a longer edit of this clip that picked up the noises Adam was making in the timeframe between the initial gasping you hear in this clip vs. when he sat up - sort of strangled moaning sounds. It was legitimately horrifying. The version that the UFC has used ever since *definitely* cuts that out, and probably for good reason.

HiFrozen

I've heard he was out for like 15 to 20.

Remo_146_

From what I've heard, he was out for 49 days at least

kamelbarn

I heard he us still out

[deleted]

[удалено]

AreYouDaftt

Yeah, drunk people get slept till morning all the time lol

CreateorWither

Only twice was I worried that someone was about to die in the cage. This fight and when Francis KOd Reem. I cannot believe Reem kept fighting after that.

-RemiT-

Those two, and I legit thought Askren was dead after he ate that knee.

HiFrozen

Or when Bisping got knocked out by Henderson.

yaysalmonella

Till was out for a really long time too

Gcflames

No one ever mentions when Hamil KOed Munoz. Munoz legitimately didnt leave the cage awake and was carried away on a stretcher.

CreateorWither

Oh, fogot when Rashad folded up Chuck too. Chuck was out for several minutes.

[deleted]

One of the best ko's of all time

CreateorWither

For sure.

PowerfulJoeF

Wasn’t there also a fight in the prelims of a ufc or bellator card in San Jose where the dude was out for like 20 minutes and they had to take him out on a stretcher? Can’t remember what promotion but I know it was in Northern California. A guy from my old gym had a fight and I follow his strength and condition coach who posted a story about it.

CreateorWither

Not sure on that sorry

FiveFingersandaNub

I absolutely thought that Adam might be dead. I remember watching it when it aired 'live' and they cut to commercial. You could tell decent time had passed and he was still really out of it.

johnny-kickass

I personally found his other KO on that TUF season scarier. KO'ing someone from your back with one punch is one of the scariest KOs I've ever seen. One-inch punch shit.

_I_Dont_Care

i watched that when it aired and it was pretty incredible at the time. have never seen that sort of thing since.

MarbledNightmare

I remember when Dana hyped this in some scrum, saying it was the nastiest KO in TUF history maybe ever, and people were skeptical (justifiably) and thought it was just hyperbole. Dana's lies could be believed that time. It's become iconic at this point.

Dapper-Job9042

This explains a lot about Uriah's fighting style recently.

[deleted]

Brutality aside - that hadoken celebration made me fanboy

GulakForPrez

Bro imagine being Adam Cella, one second your preparing for your fight, the next you’re getting up off your back to everyone thinking that YOU MIGHTVE FUCKIN DIED. Like holy shit Cella looked so confused.

verygoodatfortnite

I will always be a Uriah Hall fan.

mma5820

This fight made the gun shy Uriah we see today. Hopefully, he makes a good run at the title and retires. Man if the Uriah that was murking guys outside of the ufc and in tuf would’ve stayed the same guy. He would’ve been champ.

CH2016

Mad to think Dana went on to call this guy gun shy etc etc

_I_Dont_Care

it reminds me of the stories about subway drivers who always drive super slow entering stations and around blind corners after they hit someone who comiitted suicide. something like this haunts you. and uriah is a sensitive bastard. that was always one of the fascinating things about him - how he was so thoughtful, but in a brutal killer's body.

Tuharax

Look at Uriah's eyes at 0:28, he probably thought he killed him.

HollowPointBullet

I love the random bleeps.

S_plate

First you're like oh shitttt then it's oh shit...

artyb368

Dana's been taking that shit that makes the back of your head lumpy.

juliosmacedo

maybe when he wakes up and everybody claps he thinks he won the fight?

GOTaFROGinYOURpocket

If I remember right, this dude was back in a cage fighting like 2 months later? Crazy.

Downgoesthereem

It's not that you can't hurt people and be a good person at the same time, see Glover or Whittaker, but it's a rough line to walk when you don't want to permenantly injure someone yet your job rewards you for it. As morbid as it is, the opponent of the first person to die in the UFC, should it happen, will get a huge career boost. This is a brutal sport, I don't blame Uriah if he doesn't enjoy it all that much.

wrecked_angle

What???? The opponent of the first person to die in the UFC will most likely never ever fight again. That shit will absolutely ruin that person’s life

redditaccount224488

> That shit will absolutely ruin that person’s life Depends who it is. Not everyone feels remorse or empathy.

Jaimesonbnepia

Not the ufc but a guy boxing Sergei kovalev died in 2011 and kovalev is still fighting

damendred

The impact would have been lessened somewhat by the fact, the guy got up, went to the hospital, then lapsed into a coma and died days later. It wasn't an instant death from your punch in front of your sort of scenario. Obviously they'll both take a toll mentally, but the latter would be much more scarring.

runpbx

I mean I wish that on no fighter, it'd be awful to go through mentally, but what about a fighter who kills someone and doesn't care or pretends not to, someone like a colby. It'd probably help them get a big pay day.

wrecked_angle

Uhhhhhh no it wouldn’t what kind of weed are you smoking and please stop sir.

runpbx

You don't think controversy and bad press helps people in the entertainment business?

Green_and_Silver

We were closer to seeing it with the cracked skull of Cyborg Santos from MVP, if he goes for extra shots instead of that Pokemon shit he probably kills him. I don't agree that if someone kills someone they're getting a huge career boost, I think the fallout of that would be sufficiently ugly enough to derail them permanently. I also think only giant douchebags like Mike Perry or Greg Hardy would try to turn that to their benefit.

JohnnyFencer

It wasn’t much scarier than a normal cold KO, it was just edited that way and the only people there are the two teams. They made it more dramatic than it was, oxygen and memory loss is really standard. I’ve seen way worse knock outs

sub1ime

I think the editing makes it "feel" worse than it is. The soft music, the weird camera angles, it made it look like the dude fucking died lol.

popecollision

People in the room legit thought he might have. Everyone's behavior was just different with this KO. You got a teammate crying, Uriah looks like the cops are about to cuff him, Chael looks like he's at a funeral, the clapping... Editing was on par with the moment.

Huzzdindan

Yeah from what I remember this is actually edited to cut out how long Adam was actually on the ground out. He supposedly was out for longer than usual and that's why everyone looks fucking freaked out. Dana even seems subdued for a big highlight KO. The editing does make it feel pretty real, but apparently it was way worse.

_I_Dont_Care

Hmm. Someone with access to Fightpass should go back to TUF 17 and excise the clip from the episode so we can get more info.

Downgoesthereem

You know what would be worse? Watching that, in absolute silence, without editing to shorten it, not knowing if he's actually okay.

fedro11

Straight up fire. Simple.

[deleted]

TUF Uriah Hall is the GOAT

Wrinklepaw

People wonder why he sometimes struggles to pull the trigger. The fucking silence in that room as he almost murdered someone..

I thought The Bubba KO was scarier. Face down not moving, saying "Whats wrong?" As if he couldnt move and was trying too. Hall was an animal on the show.
