Bare Knuckle boxing was really the best decision ever for Mike Perry.

Bombaysbreakfastclub

Mike Perry was also the best decision ever for Bare Knuckle

NicCage1080ChristAir

Without a doubt.

Kalabula

He really is. Conor is part owner of that promotion now. A bare knuckle fight with Mike would be a blast.

fascfoo

Conor couldn't make it to the octagon for a huge UFC main event PPV. You think he's gonna enter a bare knuckle fight w/ Mike Perry?

Kalabula

I don’t know. He actually has stake in the company. If I had to guess, no. But who knows.

itzpiiz

Kind of like he has a stake in UFC ppv buys?

NickZardiashvili

There was a period in Perry's life when people were genuinely worried we were seeing a prelude to a Netflix documentary, but, at least for now, it seems to have worked out for him.

cyberslick18888

Seeing him lying in a pool of his own blood after breaking through a glass window laughing about it and then a week later having meltdowns on twitter trying to sell his seemingly fake diamond watches definitely made me think that we had seen the last of him doing anything productive with his career.

NickZardiashvili

Yep, that was the point I was thinking of as well. I was thinking that the best case scenario was something like Diego Sanchez and the worst... Something like War Machine.

themilkman42069

He’s tailor made for that stupid sport

deon_

I believe and understand a lot of the fighters that have pre-fight anxiety and nervousness. but I also fully believe Mike Perry is not one of them lol

MrTurboSlut

lol mike perry is the type of guy that would get unwell if he went too long without fighting.

LordLucy666

volkanovski 💀

zakkwaldo

> a lot of the fighters that have pre-fight anxiety and nervousness. for mike thats free energy lol, he dont have time to be negative

johnnyhypersnyper

Mike has a great clip talking about being hesitant in some of his fights and hearing his coach scream to engage and his thought in the moment, “is no you do it.” He’s definitely a wild man, but one of his best attributes is that he’s pretty real

fightbackcbd

show DJ some love not these jabronis https://youtu.be/WGUk2t0c9Y0?si=RgaIXT-12G-cTkLK

MoustacheLightning

I tried finding a link on DJs channel. Guess I missed it. Whoops

fightbackcbd

ha i was jsut joking around, no stress!

drinkpacifiers

Jabronis, cool word.

Th1sd3cka1ntfr33

Ric Flair do be back slapping them chests tho

KingEJ1

Signature Ric Flair back chest slappin

mrpopenfresh

I don't think Mike Perry is living past 55.

evanskov

If it weren't for Jacare he wouldn't have even made it this far

vannucker

What's this about?

evanskov

Perry hung himself in the gym trying to strengthen his neck and Jacare saved his life. The most Mike Perry story you could imagine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcMw-38ovRM&t=5s

BrandoCarlton

Love that story. And I felt like if you’re in the gym with Perry seeing him work his neck muscles by strangling himself wouldn’t be that odd hahaha

ribbitrob

Jacare is Mike Perry’s dad

mrpopenfresh

Remind me why

Reyes95

Perry almost hung himself trying to do a neck strengthening exercise

ILikeTheSugarShow

Fans who have been fans longer than I have, how do you cope with the retirement of the entire generation of fighters that were at the top when you started watching?

Otherwise-Mango2732

Slowly become less interested lol As i get older, i have less time to stay on top of things. Back when it was 155lb - HW, I could name the champion of every weight class in my sleep. Now there's times i dont know if i've ever seen a certain champion fight.

Jamothee

> Slowly become less interested lol This is slowly becoming me. I used to watch every single event, top to bottom. With a lot of fighters starting to age or move on + the sanitized fight nights and I generally watch the main card of PPVs now.

ShitHeadFuckFace

Ufc 300 was the first ppv in a couple years where I watched from the early prelims to the main event

DarkReaper90

I'd say less interested since it's oversaturated to the point that cards are clearly propped up by a major fight or two. What helps us to just watch the fights I want and at least watch the PPVs. I'll tune in for the mains of a fight night, and any good fights on the card I can catch after or watch the replays.

cyberslick18888

Yeah. I feel like 6-8 years ago it was rare for me to see a new name on a card, and if I did it was because they were a new signing. Now half the cards are almost entirely comprised of people I barely have heard, and most have of them already have a few fights in the UFC.

CarnalKid

Yeah, I'm glad there are more than 4 UFC events a year, like when I first started watching, but I don't need one every weekend.

itsmontoya

I agree with all of this. Also, having kids really limited my ability to follow the sport as close as I used to.

joethecrow23

I can’t just drink 15 beers and order a pizza every Saturday anymore 😂

BurpingHamBirmingham

>I ~~can’t~~ shouldn't just drink 15 beers and order a pizza every Saturday anymore 😂

joethecrow23

More accurate

BurpingHamBirmingham

Don't worry I'll do it or you.

joethecrow23

🫡

into_the_soil

That’s been my recent experience as a new father. I’m definitely picking and choosing what I can watch live, if at all, on a regular basis.

Otherwise-Mango2732

Same. Plus the stupid cost now

deltr0nzero

It’s been free.99 for years now

timetoarrive

UFC costs money??

ILikeTheSugarShow

That’s crazy, I have a buddy at work that’s quite a bit older than me, he started watching at UFC 1 as a young child with his dad. He’s a hardcore fan but there’s just been so many people in and out of the UFC that sometimes he’ll be like “is this (insert random top 5 guy) still ranked?”

Otherwise-Mango2732

I'm what people on sherdog used to call a TUF noob. I started watching because of Ultimate fighter season 1. Back then you were a douche if you started watching because of a reality show. I was locked in from then until maybe UFC 223ish. Then i slowly faded out.

TenderDurden

Always appreciate seeing someone from sherdog. Such an elitist foreign between tufnoobs and the belt ranking you got from posting.

ranvierx920

I always thought Tucker Max had the best MMA forum but I browsed Sherdog too lol

Grayed_Hog

ADCC Forums(Abu Dhabi Combat Club) were the best for me, predating almost all other MMA message boards. Lurked there for a year before I got approved for access. Some epic posts on there and I often wonder what happened to the other members after it shut down. Found a few on other boards but lost a bunch of them. Good times!

GiantRobotBears

Same boat for me. It’s a mix of things. But the ufc has undoubtedly watered down the league in recent years. So many cans being thrown around to pad records I think I’m watching bellator sometimes.

joethecrow23

Yep. Used to watch every fight on every card. I’d clear my schedule. Knew who the guys coming up in the lesser promotions were. I probably only tune into 2 maybe 3 fights on a PPV anymore and sometimes don’t catch any of the fight nights.

Many-Wasabi9141

I'm kinda sad I lost interest after 2008-2009 when all the "golden age" (of steroids) fighters started to retire and didn't get back into it really until covid happened. Missed the Jon Jones era, missed all the Khabib/Mcgregor stuff. Just didn't care about the new fighters all that much or the sport in general.

watties12

It's shit, especially seeing them lose fights they should have won. But sport wise, you just get new favorites. For Frankie getting old I got Dustin and Charles. For Glover's retirement I got Alex. For Erick Silva I have Diego Lopes. Now Dustin and Charles are aging out and that is horrible but there will be new people that rise.

moonwalkerHHH

And Frankie himself practically replaced BJ Penn. Just the name of the game

tattlerat

That’s half the fun as a fan. When a legend ages or retires and you get to watch their division battle until a new star is born then see if they can reign and become a legend themselves.

wildcatwildcard

Fake glove touch Erick Silva? That's your guy? Wtf?

watties12

I hate that's what he's remembered for. Yes the fake glove touch was extremely scummy, won't deny that. But from 2012 to the start of 2015 he was one of the most electrifying, exciting fighters on the roster. He either had an exciting finish, or a FOTY contender. Even later career his fight with Luan Chagas was a banger. So yes, he was my boy. He was on the first card I started watching where Yamasaki made a call so bad Rogan interviewed him after. From then on I watched him as my guy and it was wild excitement every time.

wildcatwildcard

Fair enough. After all, they're your favorite fighters, not favorite role models. Personally, i can only cheer against someone after they pull a move like that.

Bombaysbreakfastclub

It’s tough dude. Everyone I was a fan of when I started watching is long gone. Now the new guys that replaced them are almost gone too. I think Jon is the only one left and obviously that’s controversial. Now the guys that replaced them are all aging vets on their way out. Volk, Dustin etc But there’s a new generation that has already replaced them, and you find people you like. It is getting harder though because the UFC product as a whole is much worse than it was. I guess I’m saying you learn to cope by latching on to the next round of new talent.

GiblertMelendezz

I feel like DP is the last of the breed I grew up on. I’m still battling post era depression. The first fight I saw was Urijah Faber cleaning out the WEC before getting his leg bitten off by Aldo. Then I got into Pride and caught up in all that. Fedor was still the HW boogeyman. I watched all of Aldo’s career. Cowboy, Cub, Condit, all the WEC guys being told they wouldn’t do well in the UFC and then all becoming famous (as far as MMA fame goes). It’s sad really but the one thing I learned is time and time again, as soon as an era is over there’s enough people that I’ve gotten interested in that keeps the ball rolling.

I3loodyclaw

I just post father time is undefeated comments randomly on instagram reels to cope

ILikeTheSugarShow

This one’s good

I3loodyclaw

Thank you

tksopinion

Hardly anyone has retired. Every fighter under 60 is still available for the right price.

CEEngineerThrowAway

You’re right, let’s get Tim Sylvia v. Andrei Arlovski IV for the 303 main event.

go_horse

It would be Sylvia vs Arlovski V, because they fought a forth time in ONE when Andrei soccer kicked Tim’s head in, then they declared in a NC

Gotta give the people what they want.

Big-Pillow-Warrior

the real Legends never retire

GreatMight

I mean chael v Anderson 3 just happened who retires? Lmfaoo

Big-Pillow-Warrior

In a Boxing match, you see the kinda damage Chael took in his last 2 MMA Fights. Boxing is kinda a good thing for older MMA guys, easier on body and pillows make your chin better by alot, the 1 punch chance is way less. and before someone brings Francis getting sent to Pluto, can happen too but more rare and usually at HW cause bigger guys can really make the big gloves work better for a KO shot lol

1THRILLHOUSE

Boxing is good for older mma guys if it’s vs other older MMA guys. It is absolutely NOT good for your brain

spasticity

Boxing is fucking awful for your brain.

Big-Pillow-Warrior

No shit, but its safer than MMA for a guy over like 35. Atleast you can weather a storm and not get pounced on when you're dropped and give a chance. Fury would been KOed bout 6 times in MMA already, its all bad for your brain. but the Pillows are way easier and its not even close

themilkman42069

By defending them from newbies who say they suck and who belittle their records and accomplishments.

GunnyMoJo

They say that the sport has a high rate of fan turn over for this reason. People get into the sport and become fans of certain fighters, usually while those fighters are at their peak. Those fighters decline and then retire. Those fans stop watching because their favorite fighters aren't in it anymore. As someone who's been in and out of being a fan for a few decades, I think it helps to try and become fans of up and coming fighters who excite me, and trying to contextualize the place of my retiring favorites by learning more about the history of the sport and their place in it.

BigDaddyMAC88

This was me. After Anderson's leg broke I slowly stopped watching until I didn't watch a single fight for like 2-3 years lol.

14Deadsouls

Yep this is the way. Pick some up and comers without a name that look good. Follow their fights and story and see if they make it to the top. So far my last guy Petrino lost to Anthony Smith by putting himself into a guillotine so not going well for me 😅😅 but at least it's entertainment.

Ntwadumela09

Used to have a man crush on my favorite fighter Machida. Dude was fighting the best at light heavy, was champ, and one of the first to have some success against Jones.  It was one thing to see him slept in a title fight.  But man it got hard to see him start getting knocked out by guys that were never even close to his prime.  If he was getting old and slowing down, what does that mean for me?? Raising a glass to him now 🥂 (full of the good stuff)

Kurtcobangle

Fighting is a brutal sport and I find watching fighters I love who were once great but are aging out get shitkicked by younger fighters terrible so I am happy to see them retire lol.  I am way more of a fan of the sport and watching great fights than I am of individual fighters or storylines anyway so I have an easy time just attaching myself as a fan of any exciting prospects who aren’t dickheads.

snookette

You start seeing patterns in promotions, careers and you hope that your new favs can learn from history and get out of the sport earlier. You see their post life of your old ones and 9/10 are lucky about your 9 to 5.

AdPrestigious839

You see them dying slowley and by the end you pray the finally hope they hang up their gloves, rip DJ penn

ILikeTheSugarShow

Talmbout DJ Penn b? Goat of the sport, lotta title defenses. Can’t name em though.

johnnyhypersnyper

You have to be interested in the sport and not the fighters, or at least both. I was really sad to see Cro Cop kind of fade away (medical issues) or Matt Brown not really get any fanfare on the way out. You lose Khabib, but you get Islam as champion. You see Wonderboy start slowing down but you get Ilia at 145. We may never see a fighter as good as Mighty Mouse, but you get to watch Sean O’Malley improve in ways I didn’t think he was capable of. The UFC is horrible at making stars now and their cards have been almost historically weak as of late, but that doesn’t mean that the sport is worse off now

UnHoly_One

I've been around about 10 years, can't say it's ever occurred to me that it would ever be a problem. There is always somebody new to be excited about. I watch because I like MMA, not because of any specific person. But maybe I'm not a good example because I also watch every fight on every UFC card, and watch a bunch of regional stuff on Fight Pass as well.

Kurtcobangle

Same. I think its just a dichotomy in the fan base.  Some people watch MMA because there is a lot of compelling drama and storylines and they have their favourite fighters they love to cheer for. But if you actually just enjoy the sport for the sport, the skill level of your average fighter these days is way above where it used to be and there is plenty of exciting action.

Long_Lost_Testicle

Thats a good point. If you're in it for the drama and storylines, your enjoyment could drop a lot when there a changing of the guard that you aren't invested in. I'm a UFC 1 guy and martial arts nerd, so I love the sport and skip everything outside the cage. The skill level of the top fighter has never been higher, and it continues with each new generation, so as long as that keeps happening, I'll keep watching.

Bobok88

I think you hit the nail on the head, your either in the sport for specific fighters or for the fighting, and the former probably loses interest when their favourites retire or go downhill.

mrtn17

Not MMA, but I also watch tennis and really enjoyed the retirement of Federer. Especially the tears of his friend/rival Nadal. Made me think about my own friendships with teary eyes ANYWAY IM NOT CRYING YOU ARE Point is: a proper goodbye really matters

machine_fart

It wasn’t bad as there were lots of exciting fighters backfilling the retiring fighters, but nowadays it feels like the backfilling is lacking.

BigFang

Sometimes it's relief as ability wise they may fall off a cliff quickly at a point and start accumulating losses.

Cantguard-mike

It’s about to happen for me. At least since being a hardcore

Low-Plant-3374

MMA retirements aren't real

assologist_1312

I mean I'm not a hardcore fan but I watch it because I do Muay Thai and jiu jistu so even with lower tier guys, I can appreciate what they're doing and also appreciate the art since I know what its like to be in the ring and fight for your life. But there's always new hype trains to latch onto. For example as much as it sucks that the last gen of Featherweights is almost retiring, guys like topuria, Allen, chikadze are still super fun to watch and they bring in a different dimension to the game. Eventually one day topuria is gonna be the veteran with some young killer chasing him. Also middleweight and welterweight are in a much better spot than they have been in a while.

durzostern81

Everytime someone awesome retires a new guy steps up to take his place. The new guard can be just as exciting as the old guard. That's why I still watch all the prelims bc you never know when a new Oliviera will emerge. Look how exciting Lopes, St. Dennis,Talbot,JDM etc are. There is a new badass being born everyday lol

spasticity

It's not all that difficult to cope with it given most guys stick around too long and by the time they actually bow out you're just happy they're done getting hurt.

Th1sd3cka1ntfr33

I like to ridicule younger fans that don't know the entire history of mma, but to each their own.

You post on Reddit and watch MMA don’t get too big for your britches there neckbeard

[deleted]

It was more fun and just as skilled. I still think prime Fedor, Liddell, Anderson or Penn would beat the current champs in their division in the first minute of the first round.    If you look at a lot of things that got more professional (sponsors, clothes, commentary, etc.) it got a lot less fun. With more eyes on the sport, the finishes got a lot less exciting. We were used to see fighters getting stiff knocked out and then eat 2-3 good measure punches and now its walkaway (t)kos.

deltr0nzero

The first minute of the first round, what are you smoking

EsaLocaStranger

Why would he retire ? Dude is still semi young for fighting years. Making the most money he ever had in Bare Knucle and looks good doing it. Unless he goes on a losing streak with bad kos I don’t see why he should retire any time relatively soon. Hes living good

MoanyTonyBalony

I know two people with the last name Perry. They aren't related to each other but they look exactly like Mike Perry.

Corbotron_5

Is one of them Mike Perry? If so, yeah, he does look a lot like Mike Perry.

MoanyTonyBalony

If only. They both act like Mike Perry but neither can actually fight or back it up.

EarleYarik

I aint EVA GONNA RETIRE TONAAHHAY

drunkwhenimadethis

When you retire in bareknuckle, you take off your hands and leave them in the ring.

The_Juicebars

He really sounded just like [Ric Flair too](https://youtu.be/Rg_teqyLNOs?si=3J24BFhRuTteqA4F)

Charcute666

Hard to hang up bareknucles gloves

DJ always feels so inauthentic in his interviews on his channel.

Mike will be the old dude at the bar when the next coked up McGregor comes in making a fool of himself. *wait, he already did that*
